Perhaps I seek the impossible, but I'm not ready to concede defeat just yet. I truly believe there are kindred souls longing to find one another. We can settle. Many do, I think, out of fear of being alone. Not me. So you will see me out here casting my net, searching for someone to soar with and to touch the sun. "Another hopeless romantic" you say. Maybe so. I choose to call myself a "hopeful romantic". I'm stubborn. We shall see. A true story: I was on a beach in San Diego recently. The sun was low in the western sky, and seabirds and pelicans, all fiercely alive, were wheeling around me. Sunlight was broken by the waves into a million flashing lights. The breeze was cool and soft-dreamlike. The entire scene is engraved in my memory, kept in reserve to revitalize my spirit on those gray winter days in Okla. I was observing people-a favorite pastime of mine-imagining what sort of lives they lived in this paradise I was visiting. Sadly, almost all the couples appeared unhappy - body language tense - oblivious to the splendor surrounding them. You would think that for a few moments they could cast their cares aside and call forth the joy that had presumably brought them together in the first place. One older couple stood out. They seemed to carry the beauty of the surroundings inside them. The way they looked at one another, the way they touched, how they listened to each other and laughed, spoke of an inner happiness that made me want to rush up asking, "How did you do it? What's your secret? Is it really possible to maintain this serenity for a lifetime?" I don't know - maybe I was projecting a reality that wasn't there. Maybe I was looking for an epiphany where it didn't exist. But something about them touched me. I hope to walk down that metaphorical beach and gaze into the eyes of TRUE love - a lifetime of shared memories enveloping us like the seabirds that day. If this makes sense to anyone out there, I would love to hear from you.
My Ideal Person
Playful and upbeat mother of three, successful business owner by day, looking for lasting fun and frolic with a man of character. More than a trophy (but that too), a thinking man's woman. I am very picky (ok - discerning) about the type of man I'm looking for. And yes, it is just ONE man of the soul mate variety. My guiding principals are Christian values and love for all people. Integrity is the single quality that I value most. Honesty, humor, great communication and loyalty are things I prize. To really capture my imagination, the guy I'm seeking would be very masculine and handsome, exceptionally bright, accomplished and self assured, but with a soft and sensitive side for his lady. He can bring tears to my eyes with a tender word or have them rolling down my face with a witty one. Plainly put, he's a man's man, brawny enough to playfully manhandle or dance with me, owns at least one power tool and knows how to operate it, yet knows how to pick out a great bottle of wine or plan a romantic surprise. If I had to sum it all up, this is what I'd say: traditional values sometimes wrapped in grey pinstripes and sometimes in tight blue jeans on a handsome, sensuous, adoring man with a hunger for romance, full living and hardloving will surely take this girl's breath away! And in case you're wondering, YES I CAN bake an apple pie, tie your tie, write a poem, take dead with a snowball, beat you at chess, West Coast swing dance, create a room that would rival one seen in Better Homes and Gardens, throw a party that would make Martha Stewart smile (and these days, it takes a LOT to make Martha Stewart smile) and walk gracefully in 4" high heels. I'll make you think, make you laugh and make you sigh. MY, OH MY!!!
