...not necessarily in that order.
What I'm looking for:
I'm calling this "SWF Seeks..."
Let him turn his hand with gusto to whatever work he's sent --play king or clown in Christmas pantomime-- We will build our house (on rock) of love, and books, and merriment and build the Church one baby at a time.
The bottom line: by these I'd be induced to change my state: Quick wit, stout heart, and sound theology, bizarre ironic humor, a fondness for debate, and love for God, his fellow-men, and me.
What I mean by saying that I'm a Christian:
I'm committed to following Jesus-- I've been adopted into His family, and I'm gradually coming to understand what it means that he loves me. I'd describe myself as small-o orthodox (in other words, I believe the historic Christian creeds), small-c catholic (in other words, I don't want to be sectarian), and big-E Evangelical. I'm actually at the moment part of a church plant in Western Massachusetts. I love seeing others come to know Jesus, and I want to share my faith as effectively as possible. And... 1 Cor. 13 about says it.
What I can be found doing:
I read, a lot. I also hang out and talk with friends, browse in bookstores, write in coffee-houses, do various craft-type projects (at the moment, knitting and crocheting). In the summer I bike, and I try (sometimes successfully) to run a couple of times a week. I'm basically usually up for something new, especially if I'm being introduced to it by someone who loves it.
What I do for a living, and what I eventually want to do:
I write test questions for teacher certification tests (mostly history). I enjoy it, but my job is far, far from being the most important thing in my life. I'm gradually working on various short stories, novels and essays, and hope to make at least part of my living as a writer. Ideally? I'd like to stay home with my children, at least part time, when I have them-- or work from home-- and write. I'm also interested in hands-on teaching and learning-- other than writing, my ideal job would probably be to work at a living history museum, producing and acting in interactive performance-based educational theater.
School Stuff:
I have my BA in English from Amherst College, and my Master's in Early Modern European History from Boston University. I am an academic junkie, and one reason I like my job is that it allows me to keep researching.
Life goals:
To live out my place in God's kingdom, to effectively share my faith, to help make a big, boisterous, hospitable household, like the one in "You Can't Take it With You" but without the uncle who thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt*, or like the one in "That Hideous Strength," but without the tame bear. To raise children who love God and know He loves them, and who are curious about the world around them. To love and honor my husband, and to encourage him to know God more, as he encourages me. To keep a garden, a couple of fruit trees, and maybe even some chickens; and to welcome my family and friends into a comfortable and cozy house. To help my children with their homework at a big butcherblock table in our kitchen, while their socks and mittens dry on the wood stove. And to write, and get published. To travel. And at some point, I want to be a crew-member on a square-rigged sailing ship. Just, like, for a month or so.
*since I wrote this I've been told that "Arsenic and Old Lace" is the one with the U. who thinks he's T.R. I remembered wrong...but you get my point.
