 | WELCOME to my Blog!
Intro -- Embarking on a new journey
I am tired of acting "normal", but not being accepted anyway.
I might as well "play" the fool. And such I may be.
My Blogs from here on out will probably be a little--strange, lol.
Or a lot strange, my forte.

Profiles not Blogs. Profiles, not people.
These Profiles caught your eye, or appealed to you in some way.
Feel free to link to them here on my Blog, and even link to their photos.
.
Here's how--
[ member handle ] will link to the profile.
[ photo handle ] will link to the photo.
Simply copy the code above, including the brackets, put in the profile name where it says "handle", and then remove the two spaces next to the brackets; and the code should work here on my Blog.
.
OKAY MEN, list and/or link away!
ALSO, feel free to give some Comments as to why each is your favorite.

I may about to become a "Blog hog". Well actually, I don't know what that is, and don't care.
If it means writing too much on someone else's Blog, well maybe I've already done that. lol. (Sorry! lol.)
On the other hand, if it means having too many of your own, well, this isn't "Magazine"!
They are BLOGS. Well, checking a few different dictionaries, BigChurch's Blog feature may not really "qualify" as a Blog, depending on which definition one chooses.* But, the Blogs here are our own Weblogs. (It's my profile, and I'll blog if I want to. lol.)
My Blogs are for "personal" things, or for things personal to me, or meaningful to me, that I want to post online so that someone else might benefit from it. Ostensibly. Well, usually.
In any case, I said a while ago that I planned to be off BC, for a while. Well, that didn't really occur for long. (But it may.) Also, I recently realized that I have 38 of my own Blogs, but 875 posts to others'! as of this writing
So, I might post some short little stuff. Or short big stuff. Or even some long stuff as well. lol.
Well, here goes!
Well, well, well, well, wellwell, well.
LOL. (Well, laugh already!)
.
If you like, well come see my Blog at [blog wantingperfectX].
.
* Well, I practically forgot that I made the Blog at this link: Blog? BLOG?? What's a Blog?. There I quoted BC's own definition of Blog, at that writing anyway.

A Personal-Public Blog (but not Public Domain ).
MOVIES SEEN 2006-2005 (and some before), selected
UPDATES: 8/18/2008. Changed font size. Added main shows Blog link, which was missing. Removed extra shows links because they are at the main Blog link. Made Read Only, because I posted a Comment below that people may comment there. (Otherwise, I'd have to keep checking all these old shows Blogs, which is too time-consuming. And I might miss someone's time-sensitive comments.) 1/25/2007. Additions. MOVED notes and Ratings Guide into their own Blog. 10/4/2006. FIRST POST INTO A NEW BLOG. Additions. 8/5/2006 Moved LIVE SHOWS to their own Blog. Additions. 7/29,11/2006. Additions. 7/6/2006. FIRST POST ONLINE--Old MOVIES, OLD 2006-2005 Blog moved to a new Blog, but this is kept for the comments. Moved.
I am interested in seeing some of these movies again and/or some of the better current and/or upcoming films.
Spoilers? Well, how much of a movie can you describe without spoiling the plot or some anticipation for the film? I try to avoid it when I can. If you feel I "spoiled" something, email me, and YHWH-permitting, I may consider removing or changing it. Thank you!
SEE RATINGS GUIDE for MOVIES SEEN by me for a guide to MY RATINGS, and for notes about the lists.
This list here -- MOVIES SEEN 2006-2005 (and some before), selected.
MY MAIN MOVIE AND SHOW BLOG-- Who wants to DO something, like see SHOWS or MOVIES, or catch the SIGHTS?
Yeah, Don't get on me about The Da Vinci Code or The Omen (2006.)! LOL, etc.
MAIN LIST (2006 and before )
Most of the dates listed below movie genre are approximate release dates posted online.
Accepted (PG-13) ## Justin Long, Blake Lively, Lewis Black Comedy 8/18/2006 {It started out okay, but is pretty hokey. Once the cuss words start, beginning with the s- word, it doesn't let up. I felt like my mind was trashed by the end. Other than that, I liked it. lol.}
Aeonflux (PG-13) (on DVD.) ??? Charlize Theron, Frances McDormand, Marton Csokas Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 12/2/2005 {How is it I saw this movie recently, and don't remember a thing?} Alien Vs. Predator (PG-13) ##.5 Sanaa Lathan, Raoul Bova, Lance Henriksen Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 8/13/2004 {There's over the top, then there's over the top!}
All the King's Men (PG-13) ## Sean Penn, Jude Law, Patricia Clarkson Drama 9/22/2006 {This really could have been more interesting. It made its points regarding power corrupting, but in a haphazard way. (We didn't really see the guy being really decent in the first place; so did power corrupt, or was he already a bad guy? ) It was pretty slow at times. While I appreciated the time put in for character development, it was too slow overall. Disjointed directing confused a complex but well-framed story line. Considering the decent acting, I wish this could have been better.}
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy ## Will Ferrell, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd Comedy 7/9/2004 {Dumb. If you weren't at least a teen by the '70s, you might not get parts of this. (I am not sure that watching That '70s Show would prepare you. LOL.) SEE Dodgeball below.}
Assault on Precinct 13 (R) ##.5 (Saw most of the end.) Laurence Fishburne, Ethan Hawke, Maria Bello Action/Adventure 1/19/2005
Batman Begins (PG-13) (Saw at IMAX. Also at regular?) ####.5 Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson Action/Adventure, Drama 6/15/2005 {I'd vote this as the best Batman yet.}
The Bourne Supremacy (PG-13) ###.5 Matt Damon, Franka Potente, Karl Urban Action/Adventure 7/23/2004 {I suggest seeing The Bourne Identity, with Matt Damon, FIRST.}
The Break-Up (PG-13) ###.5 Jennifer Aniston, Vince Vaughn, Joey Lauren Adams Comedy, Romance 6/2/2006 {Remember, it's called The Break-Up! LOL.} Casino Royale (PG-13) ###.5 Daniel Craig, Eva Green, Judi Dench Action/Adventure 11/17/2006 {Probably one of the best--though most visually violent--of the Bond films. I was unimpressed with previews showing Daniel Craig, but I must say he did a great job of being convincing, probably too convincing, if there is such a thing, too on guard, which would be conspicuous for a spy, to say the least. Judy Dench pulled off a snapping M. And Eva Green, well, I'll let you decide. Her acting was fine. (But her make-up?? I found it attractive only in certain scenes; in the rest, I got almost a similar feeling as I got when I saw Demi Moore with too-dark mascara around the eyes. It's popular among some today, but I don't find it attractive. Am I talking about make-up?? LOL.)}
Charlie's Angels: ? various (some on DVD; some in theatres.) ### {Kick-tush action, with some newer-morality physicality action thrown in. This isn't your innocent "Who me??" Angels anymore.} Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (PG) ##.5 Freddie Highmore, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter Action/Adventure, Family, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 7/15/2005 {Creepier in a goofy, unbelievable, daft, campyish, I-don't-believe-I-am-making-this-movie sort of way than Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The storyline is basically the same. I suppose if one saw this first, then Willie, one might like this one better, I don't know. Neither one was scary to me, not being a child.}
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (PG) #### Georgie Henley, William Moseley, Skandar Keynes Action/Adventure, Family, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 12/9/2005 {My words before it came out were "Disney, don't mess it up", or something close to that! LOL. And, they didn't. }
The Chronicles of Riddick ##.5 Vin Diesel, Colm Feore, Thandie Newton Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 6/11/2004
Click (PG-13) ###.5 Adam Sandler, Kate Beckinsale, Christopher Walken Comedy, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 6/23/2006 {If this isn't the reality of life, well, okay, it's not, but sometimes it seems as though someone ELSE has a remote on our lives.} Collateral (R) ### Tom Cruise, Jamie Foxx, Mark Ruffalo Action/Adventure, Drama 8/6/2004 {Tom Cruise plays a bad guy in this one, a very bad guy.}
Constantine (R) ### Keanu Reeves, Rachel Weisz, Shia LaBeouf Action/Adventure, Drama, Suspense/Thriller 2/18/2005 {Smoker meets spirits in this can-flesh-beat-spirit action flick.}
Conversations with God (PG) ## Henry Czerny, Ingrid Boulting, Bruce Page Drama 10/27/2006 {If you don't like "spiritual" movies that border on or tread into areas heretical for Christians, don't see this. (Same with "What the Bleep...".) Other than that, it was an interesting film. It could have been done better, I think. The main actor was pretty decent, but a bit on the I-know-you're-watching-me side. I wish more of the, uh, sometimes heretical "conversations" were quoted. I guess I've been drawn in to maybe borrow or buy the book! lol. Maybe.}
The Covenant (PG-13) ### Steven Strait, Sebastian Stan, Laura Ramsey Horror, Suspense/Thriller 9/8/2006 {This is sort of Buffy or Charmed meets Harry Potter meets the Matrix, in a Constantine-like sort of way. LOL.}
Curious George (G) ### Will Ferrell, Drew Barrymore, David Cross Animated, Comedy, Family 2/10/2006 {Cute. Too cute in places. I did a review of it on Amazon. Some woman warned of "separation anxiety" for children of certain ages. A valid concern, I think.}
The Da Vinci Code (PG-13) {DaVinci} ###.5 Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen Action/Adventure, Drama, Suspense/Thriller 5/19/2006 {Not as evil or nefarious as some of the hype seemed to make it. I suppose the BOOK is more so, since it claims to be factual, but a movie is, well, a movie, and it doesn't say it's a documentary. I wasn't offended by the main idea--Jesus in love (well, something like that )--or by the idea that some would want to cover up such a thing (thinking it not befitting for "The Son of God"--how about "the Last Adam"? ), but one guy in the movie seemed to be promoting the idea that Christianity itself must be false if the idea is true. Total bunk. If He had had a wife and children, it wouldn't offend me as a believer. (He WAS fully man, or so we're taught.) Nothing in the Gospel accounts would explicitly state that He did--or didn't--but the phrase the "disciple whom Yahshua loved", often attributed to John the Apostle, is curious. (It could have named the person somewhere, anywhere. It could have given big hints. It could have even used the more-explicit word "apostle" instead of the generic word "disciple", but it doesn't--no biggie maybe. LOL.) AND, we do see that disciple putting his (or her??) head on Yahshua's chest. Pretty cool for a GUY to put his head on another guy's chest, in front of everyone. And the Love that David and Jonathan had surpassed the love of women! Pretty neat too. But we uptight Americans would probably freak a bit if we saw some guy doing that with another guy at a Christian gathering. Take your pick. Either would be weird for affection-lacking, American Christians today!} The Day After Tomorrow (PG-13) ##.5 Dennis Quaid, Jake Gyllenhaal, Sela Ward Action/Adventure, Drama 5/28/2004 {Well, I thought it was a dumb "scientific" premise, but who knows. The action was okay.}
Defending Your Life (on DVD.) ### {This movie was recommended to me, so I watched it. If you ever feel defensive about your life--or wonder about "judgment"--this might be of interest. Don't get the idea, though, that it's like the Bible idea of judgment, though there are similarities (minus God, Heaven, Messiah ).}
Deja Vu (PG-13) {Déjà Vu} ###.5 Denzel Washington, Val Kilmer, Jim Caviezel Action/Adventure, Romance, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Suspense/Thriller 11/22/2006 {I liked it. Makes you wonder if something like this has existed in certain events of history. SEE comments in Stranger Than Fiction.}
The Devil Wears Prada (PG-13) ###.5 Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Adrian Grenier Comedy 6/30/2006 {No, the devil is not in this.}
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (PG-13) ## Vince Vaughn, Christine Taylor, Ben Stiller Comedy 6/18/2004 {This came out about the same time as Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Is it dumb? Why yes it is! But I kind of liked it. Ben Stiller really was in prime over-the-top form, contrary to other films I've seen him in where he is almost always so subdued. He seemed to need more passion, but, well, maybe that was what was lurking behind his character anyway.}
Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas ##.5 Jim Carrey, Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski Comedy, Family, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 11/8/2000 {This is not the old TV special you grew up to either love or hate--though if you didn't like the song "You're a mean one, Mister Grinch", you need a musical check-up. It's way, way more over the top and campy than the TV show. But it's cute. Jim Carrey? Well, it's enough already. This guy needs to do a serious drama! LOL.}
Dreamgirls (PG-13) ## Jamie Foxx, Beyonce Knowles, Jennifer Hudson Drama, Music/Performing Arts 1/19/2007 (NY/LA/SF - December 15, 2006. Expanded Release - December 25, 2006. Wide Release - January 19, 2007) {I kind of liked it. It didn't become a "musical" until a ways into the film. And when it did, it actually surprised me. An appreciation or liking for the development of R&B, Soul, and Disco music may help. DISCLAIMER: I myself like a lot of the best/most popular Disco music, but am not much into much of the other styles. I saw it in a mostly-caucasian-populated theater. I thought I should mention that because audience response can affect how one enjoys or does not enjoy a show. Was also with someone who actually stated she didn't really like some of those kinds of music in the movie. (Saw 12/26.)}
Elektra (PG-13) ##.5 Jennifer Garner, Goran Visnjic, Terence Stamp Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 1/14/2005 {Well, it was okay. Not memorable. I suggest seeing Jennifer Garner in the TV show Alias, especially the first season, maybe first and second. (The format changed in succeeding seasons, and it lost its edge.)} Enemy of the State (on DVD.) ####.5 {Big Brother IS watching you, and it's not pretty. The 360 camera scene was dumb, and unrealistic, I think, but the movie is great nonetheless. Oh, and Will Smith is in it.} Eragon (PG) ##.5 Edward Speleers, Jeremy Irons, Djimon Hounsou Action/Adventure, Family, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 12/15/2006 {Another decent dragon movie, I guess. }
Fahrenheit 9/11 ##.5 Art House/Foreign, Documentary, Drama 6/25/2004 {I don't know how factual it was, but I was in tears at points. And angry--at Bush, etc.--at points. So I got sucked in a bit. You'd think with all those OIL CONNECTIONS, one of the Bushes could get the gasoline to come down, oh, say, to under a dollar a gallon. But hey, we need to STOP BURNING SUCH FUELS, and find something much, much better. If you haven't thought about it, there can only be so much crude oil in the Earth before it's all gone. And if we keep sucking millions of gallons up, WHAT--if anything--is going to fill up that empty space? I think this will eventually have something to do with massive earthquakes; but what do I know. Oops. That's not what the movie is about.}
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (PG-13.) ### Lucas Black, Zachery Ty Bryan, Bow Wow Action/Adventure 6/16/2006 {Drifting is certainly an interesting way to race cars. Kinda cool.}
Final Cut ###.5 {Okay, more movies about what is REALLY going on in life! You did know that Shakespeare may have known, didn't you? He said "All the world is a stage". And, Einstein may have known too--probably got some of his ideas from, uh, some advanced, uh beings. He said, near the end of his days, that there were three things you needed to do to fulfill the formula of success for life, and I paraphrase: Work hard. Play hard. And, Keep your mouth shut. What did Einstein know?? So, you do know that your life is being recorded, didn't you? Says so right in the Bible, something about the "books" or book?} Finding Nemo (G) ### Albert Brooks, Ellen DeGeneres, Alexander Gould Action/Adventure, Animated, Comedy, Family 5/30/2003 {Cute, but I thought it was too slow and too long. But that's me as an adult. Still, I didn't rate it low. It was pretty decent. And great Animation for that style.}
Firewall (PG-13) (theater AND on DVD.) ### Harrison Ford, Paul Bettany, Virginia Madsen Action/Adventure, Drama, Suspense/Thriller 2/10/2006 {Two of us could not remember whether we saw this or not! So we put it on DVD, and watched it--again. Even after a second watching, I can barely remember--oh yeah, now it's coming back to me. Not bad, but not really memorable. Harrison Ford was serious AND funny as Indiana Jones, or as Han Solo, but he's just serious--too serious--in this flick. A continuation of his overly-serious roles in certain of his other suspense roles. Not too geeky for more-typical folks, I think.}
The Forgotten (PG-13) (on DVD.) ### Julianne Moore, Dominic West, Gary Sinise Drama, Suspense/Thriller 9/24/2004 {Woman who can't seem to forget her child, goes through therapy, apparently because of her obsessive tendencies; she comes to believe that she has discovered evidence that people's memories have been tampered with. Yeah, even I have felt similarly. Seriously. SEE my comments under the movie Stranger than Fiction (PG-13).}
The 40-Year-Old Virgin (R) ##.5 Steve Carell, Catherine Keener, Paul Rudd Comedy 8/19/2005 {Though the rating isn't high, I liked it, mostly. I think.}
Fun with Dick and Jane (PG-13) ##.5 Jim Carrey, Tea Leoni, Alec Baldwin Action/Adventure, Comedy 12/21/2005 {Another Jim Carrey film. It was not very pure, as I remember.}
The Good Shepherd (R) ##.5 Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, Billy Crudup Drama, Suspense/Thriller 12/22/2006 {Slow. But okay.}
The Guardian (PG-13) ### Kevin Costner, Ashton Kutcher, Neal McDonough Action/Adventure, Drama 9/29/2006 {Pretty decent, but a tad on the long side. One of the better jobs of acting by Costner that I have seen. Ashton Kutcher played an excellent dramatic role.}
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (PG) ### Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson Action/Adventure, Family, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 11/14/2001 {I liked the film, though its supposed wizardry was over the top. EVIL?? I don't know what to say about Harry Potter; or the Wizard of Earthsea; or about the witches in the Wizard of Oz; or about the witch in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (from The Chronicles of Narnia books ); or about the wizardry and powers in The Lord of the Rings. The Bible clearly warns in the Law of Moses to stay away from REAL witchcraft, wizardry, sorcery, necromancy, divination, and on. It even uses the words sorcerer in the NT (though the Greek word is closely related, etymologically speaking, to the word pharmacy, and probably is in reference to drug use, among other things ), and says that sorcerers have their part in the Lake of Fire. Yet many Christians SEEM to put up with the wizardry in The Lord of the Rings, and the Narnia-related books, probably because they are in fictional lands, not real Earths or current Earths, and if it was in an Age past, or in a different land with different laws, then maybe just maybe it might be all right, as long as it is used for "good" purposes. I don't know what to say about all that. While I agree with most of the concepts supporting the reasons for avoiding various "occult" practices, and while I don't practice them myself, and while I find reveling in movies and stories where such things are prevalent--and generally accepted, if used for "good"--to be questionable, I still don't know what to say about it all. It SEEMS so--harmless! LOL. But therein may lie the danger. There is real witchcraft, wizardry, sorcery, necromancy, divination, and on. Even real satanism. And Christians are not to delve into "the deep things of satan/the adversary". Much of the wizardry and witchcraft in these movies is, or seems to me to be, fantasy, and NOT what a real wizard or witch would do (but what do I know ), so I can see that being a large contributor to such stories being accepted by some. END OF EVIL?? I KIND OF LIKE some fantasy-genre stories. Is fiction outside of our present reality just wrong? Maybe not if you can really learn something from it. There are character lessons in this film, and the rest; but it's just like Hollywood. And actors are stereotypically "evil-looking", which really bugs me. The rest of the movies, through 2005, were very similar to this one, only sometimes even more ridiculously over the top in the wizardry department.}
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (PG) ### Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson Action/Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 11/15/2002
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban ### Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint Action/Adventure, Family, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 6/4/2004
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (PG-13) (Saw at IMAX.) ### Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson Action/Adventure, Family, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 11/18/2005
Hero (PG-13) ### Jet Li, Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Maggie Cheung Action/Adventure, Art House/Foreign, Drama 8/27/2004 {Interesting visual effects. Slow, sad story.}
Hitch (PG-13) ###.5 Will Smith, Eva Mendes, Kevin James Comedy, Romance 2/11/2005 {I know someone who says this is her favorite film. I just watched it again for the second time the other day (about a year and a half after the first viewing ), and, well, I probably laughed more the second time than the first. I guess I can up my rating from ###.5 to ####, though it hovers somewhere in there. Na-a. ###.5.}
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (PG) ## Martin Freeman, Sam Rockwell, Mos Def Action/Adventure, Comedy 4/29/2005 {Maybe read the book instead, which I read when I was in my teens or 20s. (And I didn't always get it.) The movie was really dumbed down, I thought. Too dumbed down. The main characters in the MOVIE were like, Gee, Isn't this dumb? rather than What in the world is this?? which is what I got out of the BOOK (many years before ). I didn't like the switch. It has some potential, and it, well, flopped. It's not funny, but it's interesting. And the book was interesting for its time. Sort of a sly spoof on the sci-fi genre, in an Alice in Wonderland sort of way.}
The Holiday (PG-13) ###.5 Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law Comedy, Romance 12/8/2006 { }
I, Robot (PG-13) ### Will Smith, Bruce Greenwood, Chi McBride Action/Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 7/16/2004 {Yeah, if you're not scared of robots with artificial intelligence someday taking over, just wait. You will be.}
Illusion ### {Well done independent film.} {This movie could get a person to ask, Is life a show that can be replayed? I liked this film except for the cussing.} The Illusionist (PG-13) ####.5 Edward Norton, Paul Giamatti, Jessica Biel Drama, Romance, Suspense/Thriller 8/18/2006 {Wow. Very cool. Well, I thought so anyway. Though it's cool, it doesn't really bear watching a second time anytime soon since it's like a mystery to which you would already know the solution. But I would definitely like to see it again, after I've forgotten the plot a bit, in a few years!}
An Inconvenient Truth (PG.) ###.5 Art House/Foreign, Documentary 5/24/2006 {An important film, by Al Gore. It brought me on occasion to tears and anger. WE NEED TO TAKE BETTER CARE OF THE EARTH!!!} The Interpreter (PG-13) ##.5 Nicole Kidman, Sean Penn, Catherine Keener Drama, Suspense/Thriller 4/22/2005
The Island (PG-13) ##.5 Ewan McGregor, Scarlett Johansson, Djimon Hounsou Action/Adventure, Suspense/Thriller 7/22/2005 {I probably personally liked this film more than my rating indicates.}
Just Friends (PG-13) ??? Ryan Reynolds, Amy Smart, Anna Faris Comedy, Romance 11/23/2005 {You ever watch a movie, and then seem to not remember anything about it shortly thereafter? This is one of them! lol. And No, that is not a commentary on what I thought about it! LOL.} King Arthur (PG-13) ###? Clive Owen, Keira Knightley, Til Schweiger Action/Adventure, Drama, Romance 7/7/2004
Kingdom of Heaven ###? Orlando Bloom, Eva Green, Jeremy Irons Drama, Romance 5/6/2005
The Lake House (PG) ??? Sandra Bullock, Keanu Reeves, Shohreh Aghdashloo Romance, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 6/16/2006 {I liked this, but I have to see it again to give it a rating. Two of us saw it, and though we got most of the main gist, I think, neither of us got it completely! Temp: ###.} The Legend of Zorro (PG) ###? Antonio Banderas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Adrian Alonso Action/Adventure, Comedy, Romance 10/28/2005
The Lord of the Rings (LOTR; all three films.) #### - ###.5 {Not having read the books for many years, my mouth was open through the first film, as I thought "Was there that much action in the books?" These films are fine by themselves, but in some ways they do not do justice to the books. (How many movies do?) In reality, like Star Wars, this series should have been SIX films, not three. I could hope, before actors die or get too old, that they will seriously think of shooting lots of extra scenes, and then re-release the films recut as SIX. AND, It's about time to put back INTERMISSIONS into the middle of films. That could nearly revive the theater experience! People meeting in the middle. Getting more food. Going to the BATHROOM!! Yeah! I was extremely disappointed that the films, even the extended versions, hardly had any of the poetry and songs of Tolkien. It was THESE that kept me reading the longish, often-boring sections of the books. If you read one of these, but not the other--The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings books--know this, that the STYLE of writing is very different between the two, as the Hobbit is like a children's book or a book for early teens, while the others are more adult-oriented or for late teens. The movies?? They, I think, are accessible by both (older children especially ).}
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (PG-13) SEE ABOVE. Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 12/18/2002
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King SEE ABOVE. Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Liv Tyler Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 12/17/2003
The Matrix (R) #### Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss 3/31/1999 {SEE below.}
The Matrix: Revisited (R) ###.5 {SEE below.}
The Matrix: Revolutions (R) (in the theater and on DVD.) ### {Notice the ratings I gave these drop from film to film. They need to do a fourth film that makes it clear they were all still in the Matrix. Or is that the truth anyway. One of the details of the films I didn't quite get--Does he have real superpowers, like miraculous powers, or are they still in a sub-part of the Matrix (when they are in Zion, etc.)? I dunno. You tell me! LOL.}
Mean Girls (PG-13) (on DVD) ### {I liked the start, started liking less the middle, and, well, ended with liking the end and the whole. "All's well that ends well", I guess. Fun, humorous, sometimes painful to watch, and, well, somewhat meaningful. Oh, and I liked much of the Pop music. Am I sure I am not a teen anymore? Fetch! LOL.}
Meet the Fockers (PG-13) ##.5 Dustin Hoffman, Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro Comedy 12/22/2004 {Oh, and Barbra Streisand. *** Or was that in the other one?}
Miami Vice (R) ### Colin Farrell, Jamie Foxx, Gong Li Action/Adventure 7/28/2006 {Disjointed directing distract from this overall excellent caper. It was almost the opposite from typical directing which draws people into the film, story, and characters without its presence being known. In some places, it had a TV-episode feel to it; and in some places the picture quality looked very video-like rather than film-like. Sorry, the guys in it wore no or few pastels! lol.}
Mission: Impossible I (PG-13?) ###.5? {Decent action films, but not really like the old TV show, which I liked quite a bit.} Mission: Impossible II (PG-13?) ###? Mission: Impossible III (PG-13) ###.5 Tom Cruise, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ving Rhames Action/Adventure 5/5/2006 Mr. and Mrs. Smith (PG-13) ### Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Elijah Alexander Action/Adventure, Romance, Suspense/Thriller 6/10/2005
Monster-in-Law (PG-13) ## Jennifer Lopez, Jane Fonda, Michael Vartan Comedy 5/13/2005 {Not bad, but in parts, Can you say dumb?}
Napoleon Dynamite (PG) ##.5 Jon Heder, Jon Gries, Aaron Ruell Comedy 6/11/2004 {I like films that explore--sensitively--the life of a nerd or geek. This isn't really one of them, but it almost does it. I don't know what the big deal is about it other than that. I thought it was rather slow, not to mention somewhat dreary.}
Night at the Museum (PG) (Saw at IMAX.) ### Ben Stiller, Carla Gugino, Dick Van Dyke Action/Adventure, Comedy, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 12/22/2006 {Kinda dumb, but funny. Somewhat but not terribly violent.}
The Notebook (PG-13) ### Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, James Garner Drama, Romance 6/25/2004 {I liked it. Maybe my favorite James Garner role, not that I recall off the top of my head seeing him in other movies. (I didn't care for him much in the TV show he starred in, though I kind of liked the show anyway. lol.)}
O Brother, Where Art Thou? ### George Clooney, John Turturro, Tim Blake Nelson 5/13/2000 {Interesting comedy. Off-beat. I liked the song they sang!}
The Omen (R) ###.5 Liev Schreiber, Julia Stiles, Mia Farrow Horror, Suspense/Thriller 6/6/2006 {No comments from the choir. This remake was pretty spooky. The earlier series is similarly about the rise of the anti-Christ, Hollywood style. The only thing I thought was really dumb was the idea of photos showing in advance how someone would die. Just dumb. Might as well take pictures of a vampire. Oh, that's right, you can't! LOL. (Ya-shur, ya-betcha.)} One Night with the King (PG) ### Tiffany Dupont, Luke Goss, Peter O'Toole, Omar Sharif Drama, Romance 10/13/2006 {Some big names in this basic story of Esther, romantically told. I liked it. However, the acting by the main female character was shaky toward the beginning, and in certain parts of certain scenes, but the movie was pretty decent regardless. (Saw 10:20 11/8/2006.)}
The Passion of the Christ (2004) ### (Sorry.) Jim Caviezel, Monica Bellucci, Claudia Gerini 2/25/2004 {Doctrinally, anything that has Yahshua Messiah calling the Father "Lord" is bothersome to me. (He called Him His God, but not His Lord, though He did refer to Him as the Lord of Heaven and Earth, or something like that.) I dunno--This film did nothing for me, either cinematically or as a believer. But that's me. I wouldn't want to watch it a second time, except maybe to analyze it.}
Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera (PG-13) ###.5 Gerard Butler, Emmy Rossum, Patrick Wilson Drama, Music/Performing Arts, Romance 12/22/2004 {I liked it. The production of the music was mostly good, but could have been better in places. I wish the story didn't incorporate murder into it. It's really hard to find compassion or even pity in such a case.}
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) ###.5 Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 7/9/2003 {Yeah, I liked it.}
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (PG-13.) ### Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley Action/Adventure, Comedy, Family 7/7/2006 {I found it a tad dumber than the first in places, but pretty much liked it. DON'T watch the previews for it.} The Polar Express (G) (Saw at IMAX, I think.) ##.5 Tom Hanks, Peter Scolari, Michael Jeter Animated, Family 11/10/2004 {Not magical. Not moving. Slow. Almost more for adults than kids, I think. Sort of. Whatever.}
Poseidon (PG-13) (Saw at IMAX.) ### Josh Lucas, Kurt Russell, Jacinda Barrett Action/Adventure, Drama, Suspense/Thriller 5/12/2006 {Not a bad remake of the original. But Wow, can they hold their breaths a long time!}
The Prestige (PG-13) #### Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine Drama, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, Suspense/Thriller 10/20/2006 {I loved the earlier movie The Illusionist. And this was great too. Dark though, very dark and twisted, even wicked. This is also mystery/suspense (at times). Sit on the edge of your seat for many scenes, and watch closely.}
Pride and Prejudice (PG) #### Keira Knightley, Matthew Macfadyen, Judi Dench Drama, Romance 11/11/2005
The Prince & Me (PG???) ##.5 {Since I don't recall where I saw it, I don't recall whether I saw it all. Any why is this important to you? Well, it means I don't know whether My Rating is solid or not. That's why. What's with my MEMORY of late? (SEE my comment under Stranger Than Fiction (PG-13).)}
The Pursuit of Happyness (PG-13) ### Will Smith, Jaden Christopher Syre Smith, Thandie Newton Drama 12/15/2006 {Will Smith does well in this drama. The story line seemed contrived in ways that REAL life can seem weird that way.}
Real Life (on DVD.) ## {Dumb. I don't know whether or not we already had any "reality TV shows" when this came out or not. But it's basically like that, only it's a movie. The family doesn't really like the constant invasion of their privacy, however. And, well, the family isn't really all that "normal". Well anyway. I was bothered by the main actor's apologetic manner, like, Yeah, I know this is a bad film, but I am going to make it anyway. It wasn't really funny to me. More painful than funny. It's not about real life, only about how a camera crew tried to film real life, a pseudo-documentary, if you will, or a dumb parody of one. I don't often like dumb, and this is dumb in a way I didn't really like.}
??? Rock School (R) SEE SCHOOL OF ROCK. Asa, C.J., Paul Green Documentary 6/3/2005 {Um, Oops. I didn't see this movie! Actually, I saw the MOVIE School of Rock with Jack Black. Funny. And IT wasn't rated R! Sorry for putting this in previously. It was an errrrrrror.}
Sahara (PG-13) ##.5 Matthew McConaughey, Steve Zahn, Penélope Cruz Action/Adventure 4/8/2005
A Scanner Darkly (R.) ### Keanu Reeves, Winona Ryder, Robert Downey Jr. Action/Adventure, Animated, Drama, Suspense/Thriller 7/7/2006 {Trippy Animation about futuristic vice cops. Interesting. A bit slow. Harder to follow, maybe, as it goes along.} The Science of Sleep (R) ## Gael García Bernal, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Alain Chabat Drama, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 9/22/2006 {It had less science, but more Zs than I had hoped for. Unless familiar with the science terms already, might be better to do DVD where you can pause and rewind and listen to the big words a few times to remember it, unless you're one of those over-3-to-5-percent brain-use people who have an auralgraphic memory. (That's MY word, and I just made it up, though I like the sound of auragraphic better; hmm, maybe that would be related to auras though. lol.) Harder to follow, maybe, as it goes along, as the movie seems to start with an almost-completely-awake coherency that grows closer and closer to dream-like-consciousness toward the end. It would be interesting to see the Animated sequences redone with super-high-caliber drawn Animation rather than the claymation-style, which was pretty decent but certainly dated in 2006.}
School of Rock (??) ###.5 {The one with Jack Black. In parts, funny. And IT wasn't rated R like Rock School! (Maybe G or PG.) Gives a little hope to those of us who are older, yet still have an interest in doing music.}
Shall We Dance? (PG-13) ### Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez, Susan Sarandon Drama, Music/Performing Arts, Romance 10/15/2004 {I enjoyed it.}
Shrek (PG) ###.5 Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz Animated, Comedy, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 4/22/2001 {I enjoyed it. Has some crude humor.}
Shrek 2 ### Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz Animated, Comedy, Family, Romance 5/19/2004 {I enjoyed it. Has some crude humor.}
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (PG) (on DVD.) ###.5 Amber Tamblyn, Alexis Bledel, America Ferrera 6/1/2005 {I liked it. Could have had more meaning to it, but it's okay. America Ferrera is the star of the TV show Ugly Betty. She was also in Real Women Have Curves. (I liked that too, mostly.)} Sliding Doors (on DVD.) ??? Spanglish (PG-13) ### Adam Sandler, Téa Leoni, Paz Vega Comedy 12/17/2004 {I liked it. It's more a drama, romance, romantic comedy than comedy.}
Spider-Man (PG-13) #### Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe, Kirsten Dunst Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 5/3/2002 {I liked it. It also contains some romance.}
Spider-Man 2 (PG-13) ###.5 Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco Action/Adventure, Drama 6/30/2004 {I liked it.}
Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan ###.5 William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Ricardo Montalban 6/4/1982 {The Star Trek film most like the original series. Seeing it once, it was maybe my favorite Star Trek film. Seeing a second time, it didn't seem quite as good. Changed rating from #### to ###.5.}
Star Trek IV - The Voyage Home? ###.5 (except for the excessive cursing.) {One of the most popular films among non-Trekkers/Trekkies. But it has so much cussing in it, it's ridiculous. Other than that, it wasn't too bad. Changed my rating from #### to ###.5. (This rating is more for others than representative of what I like.)}
.
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) (PG) ##### Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher 6/11/1977 {Though this says Episode 4, it was the first film released. Years later, I still laugh when I watch this. "Laugh it up, fuzz ball!" LOL. I don't think I was laughing, though, when I first saw it. When this came out in 1977, it blew every sci-fi film out of the water. For the time, it was amazing. It's still good. (Apparently the film stock they used for this film wasn't as good as in later Star Wars films. Seems pretty dull or grainy or something.) I sat through this twice the first time I saw it, IN THE THEATER, which I don't know if I ever did with any other film. It's cute, loveable, and action-packed.}
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back ####.5 {This sequel is much darker than the first film, released three years prior. I actually stopped liking Luke Skywalker as much as a character in this film. Many fans rated this higher than Episode IV, and in some ways it may be a better film, but hey, I enjoy the other one more! LOL.}
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi ###.5 {I didn't mind the Ewoks, but the ending was too sappy, and ruined for some fans an otherwise decent film. I tried to shrug it off. This one is more accessible, I think, for children than most of the others.}
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace ##.5 {It's "lucky" I gave it ##.5. If you like Jar Jar Binks--ah, give him a chance--you may like this film. Maybe ## is more like how much I liked, or didn't like, this film. My least favorite of all six films. Little wisdom. Little vision. And virtually No camaraderie among Jedis. No wonder the Jedi Order was falling apart. But never mind. It's part of the series, so you might as well watch it; though, if you were to skip a film and watch the rest, I think you could almost safely do it with this one.}
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones ### {Getting better.}
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (PG-13) #### Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Natalie Portman Action/Adventure, Family, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 5/19/2005 {Now that's more like it! Though I thought parts were dumb, but, yeah, I liked it. It is possibly the most heart-wrenching of the films. Good thing Episodes 4-6 came out first. LOL.}
.
The Stepford Wives (PG-13) ##.5 Nicole Kidman, Matthew Broderick, Glenn Close Comedy, Suspense/Thriller 6/11/2004 {Weird. A little too campy or dumb for me.}
Stranger Than Fiction (PG-13) ###.5 Will Ferrell, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Dustin Hoffman Comedy, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 11/10/2006 {Because of the concept, I knew I wanted to see it, though from the previews, I thought it would be dumb. I went though, because in truth, it has seemed that I myself have been recently going through something similar. (No joke.) But not the same, I think! LOL. I was surprised that Will Ferrell did such a good job; he (practically ) never got out of hand! And I kind of liked Dustin Hoffman's detached acting as a respected literary person. Now, HERE'S A QUESTION: Is your life written out, ALL of it, before it occurs, or are parts still Unwritten? SEE comments in Deja Vu (Déjà Vu).}
Superman Returns (PG-13) #### Brandon Routh, Kevin Spacey, Kate Bosworth Action/Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 6/28/2006 {I haven't seen the other Superman movies in some time, but from my vague recollection, I'd guess that this one would be my favorite.} Syriana (R) ### George Clooney, Matt Damon, Jeffrey Wright Drama, Suspense/Thriller 11/23/2005 {All I can say is Pay Attention. It's almost like a documentary.}
Take the Lead (PG-13) (on DVD.) ### Antonio Banderas, Rob Brown, Alfre Woodard Drama, Music/Performing Arts 4/7/2006 {I liked it.}
The Terminal (PG-13) ### Tom Hanks, Stanley Tucci, Chi McBride Comedy, Drama, Romance 6/18/2004 {Maybe not as slow as one might imagine. I liked it.}
The Village (PG-13) ###.5 Joaquin Phoenix, Sigourney Weaver, Adrien Brody Drama, Suspense/Thriller 7/30/2004 {Not really horror exactly. And I almost didn't go see it because I don't generally watch most Horror films, especially slasher films. But I actually liked it!}
Virus (on DVD.) ##.5 {This approaches the Horror genre, but is interesting.}
Walk the Line (PG-13) ###? Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Ginnifer Goodwin Drama, Music/Performing Arts 11/18/2005
What the Bleep Do We Know!? (NR) ##.5 Armin Shimerman, John Ross Bowie, Marlee Matlin Art House/Foreign, Comedy, Drama, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 4/23/2004 {If you don't like "spiritual" movies that border on or tread into areas heretical for Christians, don't see this. (Same with "Conversations with God".) Other than that, it was an interesting film. I was left wondering how much of the Quantum Physics / Quantum Mechanics info was real. Nothing like fictional science to explain real phenomena that could be just glitches in the matrix. LOL. (Saw 9:15PM Wed. 7/14/2004.)}
When Harry Met Sally... (R) (on DVD and/or TV.) ###.5 Billy Crystal, Meg Ryan, Carrie Fisher 7/12/1989
The Wicker Man (PG-13) #.5 Nicolas Cage, Ellen Burstyn, Kate Beahan Drama, Horror, Suspense/Thriller 9/1/2006 {NOT for children, or teens, I believe. (More below.) Pacing was SO SLOW. This is not only not suspenseful and not a thriller, it is slower than most dramas! A re-cut of this, boosting the tempo, could make the pacing fine, and boost it a star. And while most of the time it approached creepy, it was almost campy in a dull sort of way, like you could tell the actors were having sometimes having a hard time keeping a straight face. The ending is definitely creepy and perverse. This would freak out some adults, to be sure, but while this would maybe not freak out other adults, I'd say this could seriously disturb children and certain teens. It would have creeped me out even as a young man.}
X-Men 3 / X-Men: The Last Stand (PG-13.) ### Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen Action/Adventure, Sci-Fi/Fantasy 5/26/2006 {I have liked all the X-Men movies to date.}

No profanity here guys!
A Personal-Public Blog (but not Public Domain.).
TV SHOWS I watched or WATCH ! Wow. Did I really watch that much TV?? LOL.
VERSION: 8/18/2008. *1*
MY MAIN MOVIES AND SHOWS BLOG: Who wants to DO something, like see SHOWS or MOVIES, or catch the SIGHTS?.
MORE RECENTLY. WHAT I HAVE WATCHED IN THE PAST YEAR OR TWO: My personal ratings for these are below, spread around in the main lists.
I haven't had or taken out much time lately to watch anything every week; but here are some that I have watched on occasion in the past year or so.
Info and ratings about these are in the main list below.
Semi-regularly: Numbers / NUMB3RS. (Friday nights. No, I am not a Math whiz, LOL.)
Momentarily: Beijing Summer Olympics, especially Volleyball which I used to play competitively.
Occasionally: Grey's Anatomy (I was even a regular, till maybe 2007-8.) Stargate: Atlantis Stargate: SG-1 Star Trek Voyager. (On DVD.) (Beginning Season 5.) Ugly Betty (I was even a regular, till 2007. LOL.) Various older TV shows (not listed).
Previously, or previous season(s) -- Regularly or Semi-regularly: Eli Stone. (This was FUN. I hope they bring it back! ) Mission Impossible. (Now Simon and Simon comes on in its spot.) UFO Hunters UFO Files (or other shows that would be on after UFO Hunters).
Occasionally throughout the year (A-Z): - Various older TV shows (not listed). Big Shots (Rarely now, or not at all. Too--chauvinistic, I guess, for my tastes. Too macho or whatever.) Get Smart House Journeyman Life Lost NCIS (when a friend is watching ) Shark The Unit (when a friend was watching ) Xena: Warrior Princess. (On DVD, but NOT in several months.) (Why not? LOL. "Her courage will change the world". Something ought to.) Various older TV shows (not listed) Various others.
INTRO:
Now don't judge me from what is on this season. LOL.
And don't think I am just a nerd because I can SOMETIMES like Sci-Fi, or because my favorite TV show growing up was Star Trek, The Original Series, LOL (when I was maybe about in junior high ).
How many other TV shows inspired 10 full-length feature films!? LOL.*
But I liked--and disliked, lol--so MANY TV shows growing up!
Below are many of them.
About my ratings here:
My Ratings throughout, of TV shows, are REALLY rough approximations, as episodes could vary a lot. Also, my memory of certain TV shows from a long time ago is sometimes pretty dim. These ratings are DIFFERENT from my MOVIE ratings. Overall, my ratings of movies are generally somewhat higher than for TV shows. (More time typically goes into film production.)
These ratings here basically may go from 1 to 5 sharps! (#-#####.), and they basically represent how much I LIKED the show, or how likely I am to watch it again, NOT how well done it was.
Keep in mind that SOME of My Ratings are based on how I FELT about a show when I was a child or teen. (Some shows here, I might not have even seen since then.)
N.B. NOTE: My Ratings do not imply appropriateness or lack of it for Christians, children, or anyone else.
Note: TV shows ARE listed A-Z but are split into various sections.
Watched or watch more frequently: Less-frequently watched shows are listed in their own section. Though I've watched quite a few, many Christian shows may or may not be listed.
I probably don't list all, but I list a bunch of TV shows that I watched, or watch, either occasionally or often. In the vast majority of cases, I did NOT watch all the episodes of a series. Well, I might have, LOL, but I wouldn't know! Where I know I HAVE seen them all, I have tried to mention it.
24 ###-## A spy/federal-agent/police show. Season 1. ###-##.5 Saw all. Season 2. ##.5-## Saw all. It got more violent. Ethical boundaries get pushed further and further as the Seasons progress. Season 3. ##.5-## Saw all. Season 4. ##.5-## Saw all. Jack Bauer pushes the morals boundary by seeing a Separated woman. Season 5. Not yet rated. Season 6. Not yet rated. Adam 12 ## A police show. It usually had two guys going out on calls. Very tame. Somewhat lame. The Addams Family ## Comedy. Dumb, but I kind of liked it. ALIAS I have seen the entire series, on DVD. ####-##.5 Action/Adventure. Spy/Mystery. This is similar, I have heard, to the show La Femme Nikita and to the movie "Point of No Return". Well, it has a woman playing the main role! Season 1 #### Season 2 ###.5? Season 3 ##.5? Season 4 ##.5 Season 5 ##.5 All in the Family ### Comedy. Drama. Satire. Social Commentary. A bit before my time, humor-wise, this was a comedy that was also a social commentary on the time. It might have done more than most anything else to point out the nation's bigotry, and its ignorant, judgmental behavior; maybe more than any show of its time, or that I have seen since (by 2007 ). The Beverly Hillbillies ##.5-## Comedy. Occasional drama. Dumb, but occasionally smart and funny, maybe brilliant even. It explored some of the conflict between country and city living and viewpoints and ways of doing things. It occasionally explored some of the important things of life, and whether all that money is really all that important. Bewitched ##.5-#.5 Comedy/Supernatural. Sorry! Yes, it's about a female witch, a man who marries her, and the shenanigans that she and her relatives and witch friends get into. The Brady Bunch ##.5 Family drama and comedy. I actually liked this some of the time. Charlie's Angels ##.5 Action/Adventure. Spy/Mystery. Cool. But corny at times. Columbo ###-## Mystery. Detective. Well, if you don't mind knowing whodunnit almost the whole way through, this was pretty intriguing. Columbo liked to practically harass his suspects until he could get them to give up some detail that gave them away. Pretty smart, really! Daybreak ###.5-##.5 The one about time travel. Guy keeps finding himself in another time period, trying to figure out why, and what to do. Some woman also keeps showing up, apparently also being moved around in time, but, she seems to know more about what's going on, and maybe why, and give him some clues. I think I got the sense that they this experience was being forced upon them, or, upon him anyway. I really liked this show, but the series got cut short. There might be another series with a similar name that I know nothing about. Eli Stone ###.5-##.5 Loved this show. New in 2008. An attorney has visions of the past and future which direct him to help others, even to defend them pro bono. Will it be back in 2009 (or late 200 ? I hope so! Get Smart ##.5-#.5 Action/Adventure. Spy/Mystery. Comedy. The dumbest likeable one around. I kept asking myself why it wasn't on more often, and why I still haven't seen it on DVD. (It might be out. Gotta look.) Great theme music. Finally found on TV again in mid-2008. Gilligan's Island ##-##.5 Action/Adventure. Comedy. I said Get Smart was the dumbest likeable one around. I could be wrong. Green Acres ##-#.5 Comedy. Dumb. Like The Beverly Hillbillies, it explored some of the conflict between country and city living and viewpoints and ways of doing things. But instead of the country coming to the city, and looking out of place, this was a city guy wanting to head to the country, and the strange (exaggerated ) interactions that brought. The wife wanted the city life though, and that was a constant struggle--and watcher irritation. I watched this more often than I wanted to. LOL. Grey's Anatomy ###-## Medical drama and comedy. Except for the immoral stuff, I like a lot of it. Happy Days ###.5 Comedy. Drama. Family. Most of the time, I liked this a lot. Great theme music. Hogan's Heroes ## (War-time) Comedy. Yeah, dumb. I Dream of Jeannie ###-#.5 Comedy. Supernatural. Jeannie is a genie with powers. It's similar to Bewitched, except for the cornball witch stuff. J.P. Patches ## Children's entertainment. Comedy. Local children's morning-show. Pretty dumb at times. I loved that talking clock! The Late Night Movie or whatever it was called. Various movies. The # ratings varied. Various movies. Various movies. Late Night with Conan O'Brien #.5-##.5 Comedy. Talk show. Variety show. He's okay humor-wise, but lies all the time for humor sake, and can be pretty perverse at times. The Late Show, with David Letterman ##-### Comedy. Talk show. Variety show. As he has gotten nicer, the show has gotten better. One of the less perverse comedian-talk-show hosts, at least on screen. But still too much perversity. The Late Late Show, with Craig Ferguson ##-### Comedy. Talk show. Variety show. I have sometimes really liked this show. His antics can get a big tiring though. Leave it to Beaver ##.5-## Family drama and comedy. I actually liked this some of the time. M.A.S.H. ###.5-## (War-time) Drama-Comedy. Though I was young, I liked it, and actually "got" some of the irony and sarcasm. It still causes me to get into trouble today! lol. McCloud ## Detective. Countryish. So-so. I didn't like the captain's attitude. Mission Impossible ###-## Spy. Action/Adventure. I kind of liked this show. A bit slow much of the time. Could have used better casting. Great theme music. Mr. Rogers ## Children's edutainment. Young-children's show. The Munsters #.5 Comedy. Dumb. My Favorite Martian ## Comedy. Kinda dumb. My Three Sons ## Family. Drama. Comedy. Kinda dumb. Don't recall much, but I kind of liked Ed McMurray. Nightmare Theatre Various movies. The # ratings varied. Various movies. Various movies. I think it was spelled Theatre and not Theater. Numbers / NUMB3RS ###.5-## Detective. Drama. Police. Police Drama. I LIKE this show, or mostly liked it until a recent episode showed that one of the main math guys is skeptical about the supernatural. I don't care for certain characters though. Rather than focusing on forensics, as CSI and others do, it focuses on how numbers experts look for clues in the patterns that often follow a crime scene and criminal behavior. They do a pretty decent job of not going too far into the "geek" zone when it comes to numbers analysis, but it pushes it sometimes. LOL. Though some of the number stuff goes way too fast for ME to catch, it's still usually somewhat understandable. And I like that at least SOME of those who are into numbers aren't portrayed as freaks, though some on the show are definitely portrayed as geeks. The Outer Limits ## Sci-fi. Supernatural. I preferred the show the Twilight Zone. Perry Mason ##.5 Court. Detective. If it hadn't been so predictable at time, this could have been a much better show. How DOES Mr. Mason get into their heads SO WELL that he can get them to confess ON THE STAND. (Hey, didn't it work in the movie "A Few Good Men"? lol.) Star Trek Or, Star Trek, The Original Series (TOS). ###.5-##.5 Seen all on DVD. Action/Adventure. Sci-fi. Drama. At this writing, they are remastering and then rereleasing episodes of TOS. See my Blog Post My favorite TV show for a bit more about Star Trek. Growing up, this was my favorite TV show of the dozens I used to watch for many hours of the day. I loved most of the characters, except "Bones" (or almost any of the other doctors on any of the Star Treks I have seen, not that I dislike real doctors!). Humor is at times a bit campy, and the special effects sometime corny by today's standards, but folks, this was over a DECADE before Battlestar Galactica or Star Wars! It was pretty decent for the early 1960s, and many of the episodes have things of LIFE to learn about. Once you're into the characters, you're into Star Trek TOS. Was it science? Well, that's debatable. An article I read at the NASA Web site examined the "science" of Star Trek, point by point, and says that some was, yes, and some maybe not. He also said that the writer--and many others at NASA, including engineers--were fans of the various Star Trek series. But the thing to remember is that this show is set HUNDREDS of years in the future. So WHO KNOWS? LOL. Star Trek. Voyager. (on TV.) ###-## Action/Adventure. Sci-fi. Drama. Seen Seasons 1-4, unless I missed a few in 4. Various episodes of misc. seasons. My comments about this are similar to Star Trek, The Next Generation. Why can't they go back to the formula, and the type of casting they did for the main characters in TOS?? And just how real could this be in the future anyway? Guess people will see, if Earth ever gets that far. Three's Company ##-#.5 Comedy. Drama. Okay comedy, except for all the lying. Dumb at times though, even really dumb. The Time Tunnel ##.5?-##? Action/Adventure. Sci-fi. I recall thinking Why isn't this on more often? I don't recall thinking it was very good, but I liked the concept a lot. The Tonight Show, with Jay Leno Variety show. ##.5-# Comedy. Talk show. Variety show. Considering this guy seems like a big kid, he seems to have pretty perverse humor at times. And will you stop explaining your jokes already? The Tonight Show, with Johnny Carson Variety show. ###-## Comedy. Talk show. Variety show. Funny. And appeared to be somewhat conservative, though he could definitely be "subversive" at times. Twilight Zone Original. ### Sci-fi. Mystery. Action/Adventure. Supernatural. Drama. Yeah baby! (Just being silly.) UFO Hunters ###-## Science. Documentary. Sometimes intriguing, sometimes boring, sometimes dumb. Hour-long show exploring whether there really is evidence for flying saucers. Ugly Betty ###.5-## Drama. Comedy. I liked the series premiere. I hoped they would keep with and handle well the idea of showing respect to those who might not be so fashionable or "good looking". But it expanded a lot into the drama between the various characters. I am wondering, though, if this show is doing more harm than good, as "nerds" are still nerdy, even though the show gives them some dimension. In 2007, it was getting a little dumber toward the end. And the start of 2008 pretty much stopped me from watching regularly. Wild Wild West ###-## Spy. Action/Adventure. Growing up, I was really excited when this would come on, but it was often disappointing. It had so much potential. It was kind of like a Mission Impossible set back in the 1800s or early 1900s (whenever). The Wonderful World of Disney ###-## Various shows. As a boy, I hoped it wouldn't be a documentary! but that's about all I recall, except for a lot of the storied being corny to me as a boy. Xena, Warrior Princess ###-#.5 Action/Adventure. Drama. Was okay sometimes, when the dumb guy Jowster or whatever wasn't in it. I liked Xena, and at times I loved her sidekick, Gabrielle, though at some point she got pretty creepy, though I didn't follow this series to its end.
Cartoons: I'll probably get in trouble for even commenting on these "beloved" attempts at humor, but Oh well. Cartoons are apparently now SO IMPORTANT to me, that at this writing, I can barely remember any of their names! LOL. (Not that a lack of remembering necessarily means that, psychologically or philosophically speaking. Really.) No ratings.
Bugs Bunny Sometimes funny? The Flintstones Sometimes meaningful, but not usually funny. The Jetsons I dunno; don't recall. Mighty Mouse Don't recall. Road Runner Mindless, constant cat-and-mouse theme. As one person wrote, If Wile-e Coyote had all that money to buy all the stuff to try to catch the Road Runner, why didn't he just go out an BUY himself dinner? Rocky and Bullwinkle Dumb. I rarely if ever liked it. Scooby Doo! Sometimes pretty dumb. I usually liked watching it, though it usually left me feeling somewhat disappointed. Speed Racer I only remember kind of liking it. Various others Yep yep.
Watched or watch less frequently: Though I've watched quite a few, many Christian shows may or may not be listed. This list is not complete at all, as I watched other shows only a few times here and there, many of which are not listed. Sometimes I would watch shows in spurts. Many shows, especially those not listed, I'd see when visiting with someone who was watching them. Do I even list the NEWS anywhere? LOL. It's not always easy to categorize what I watched frequently or not. Some shows I watched when much younger, then not after. And some I watched infrequently when younger but much more later on.
Access Hollywood #.5-##.5 Celebrity News Show. And why should we care so much about the personal lives of THESE strangers? LOL. America's Funniest Home Videos ##-##.5 Award Show. Comedy. Game Show, sort of. Usually corny. That is, the host's comments were anyway. American Hero ?? Last American Hero?? ##? GENRE? ? I THINK this is what I wrote down. LOL. Nothing is coming to mind. American Idol ##.5-#.5 Music show/competition. Like "Grease: You're the one that I want" TV show, it can be torturous to watch, especially as one who composes and sings! LOL. The Andy Griffith Show. Mayberry R.F.D. (Mayberry RFD ) #.5-##.5 Comedy. Drama. Family. I saw this more than I should have. Kinda dumb, even for a young boy like me. Arsenio Hall ##.5 Variety show. I kind of liked it, slightly femme-sounding host and all. The A-Team ##? Detective. Drama. Police. Police Drama. I don't remember it well. Kind dumb though, if I recall. The Avengers ###-## Action/Adventure. Mystery. Spy. I loved this show when it had the character Emma Peel on it. (I bought the Emma Peel episodes on DVD, but haven't seen them all as of 5/2008.) Baretta ## Not too bad. Batman #.5 Action/Adventure. Sci-fi. Dumb. Too dumb. Check out the MOVIES, though. I liked "Batman Begins" a lot. Battlestar Galactica (original unfinished series) ## overall; ##.5-#.5 Sci-fi. This is NOT the NEW Battlestar Galactica which I have yet to see, and which has gotten really decent ratings, or so I heard. Theme: Did we on Earth come from, or are we related to others somewhere in the galaxy? They seem to think so. And as they run into trouble in their area of the galaxy, they head away from the trouble, and toward, what may be (they're not sure), a myth about a planet -- called Earth. I watched the entire series on DVD in 2006. I got very little out of it. Some were pretty decent; others nearly awful. If you can handle the very first episode, you can probably tolerate the rest. It gets to its best pacing toward the end of the series, which lasted only one year. Saw only occasionally when it aired on TV. Saw ALL this on DVD. The Benny Hill Show ##? Comedy. Variety show. I thought it was mostly dumb. Rife with sexuality skits. Not my style. Big Shots ##-##.5 Comedy. Drama. Male chauvinists abound. Or maybe boys are just being boys--instead of men. Bonanza ## Drama. Country. I was too young to really appreciate this. The Carol Burnett Show ##.5-##? Comedy. Variety show. Don't recall much. Chips ##? Detective. Drama. Police. Police Drama. I don't really remember it. The Cosby Show. ###.5-## Comedy. Drama. Family. A pretty decent show. The Courtship of Eddie's Father ## Drama. As a boy, I thought this was pretty dull. Crocodile Hunter ##? Adventure?? Documentary? LOL. Saw a few. I don't really recall. Dallas ##? Drama. Evening Soap Opera. It was so popular, but I hardly ever watched it. "Who shot J.R.?" Dancing With the Stars ##.5 Award Show. Dance. Variety show. Dancers compete, as "stars" are typically matched up with professional dancer and dance trainers. Dark Angel ##.5 Drama? I kind of liked it, though I rarely saw it. Jessica Alba starred. Seattle was supposedly a setting. Well, they liked to show the Space Needle anyway. Dark Shadows ## Drama-Soap. Don't recall. Was the main character a vampire?? lol. The Dating Game ## Dating. Drama. Romance. Romantic comedy. I kind of liked it, from time to time. Donahue ###.5-## Talk show. I usually liked it, though there were concerns about it being somewhat worldly in it varying wisdoms. Like most talk shows, TV and otherwise, I found that a topic was often not gone into deeply enough. The Dukes of Hazzard (Dukes of Hazard ) ##-##.5 Drama? Can you believe that this show was once #1? The Electric Company ## Education. Children's. Young-children's show. Entertainment Tonight (ET) #.5-##.5 Celebrity News Show. And why should we care so much about the personal lives of THESE strangers? LOL. ET. SEE Entertainment Tonight (ET) SEE Entertainment Tonight listing. ER ##-##.5 Doctor Drama. Drama. I used to watch it quite a bit, but then stopped for no particular reason. ER was then replaced in my watching by Grey's Anatomy. Been so long since I've seen it, I don't even know who's on it. LOL. Extra #.5-##.5 Celebrity News Show. And why should we care so much about the personal lives of THESE strangers? LOL. A Family Affair ## Drama. Family. As a boy, I thought this was pretty dull. Hi Buffy! LOL. Family Ties ### Family drama and comedy. Some of the time, I liked this. The FBI ## Detective. Drama. Too serious, though it had potential. (SEE "Alias" elsewhere.) Flipper ## Drama. Corny, even for a young boy like me. Frasier ## Drama. Comedy. No comment. Saw rarely. Friends ##.5 Comedy. Drama. I liked watching it. George Lopez #.5-##.5 Comedy. Drama. A bit dumb at times, and obsessive. Geraldo ##? Talk show? Rarely saw it. Gomer Pyle #.5-## Comedy. Drama. I saw this more than I should have. LOL! Grease: You're the one that I want ##.5-#.5 Music show/Competition. Like American Idol, can be torturous to watch, especially as one who composes and sings! LOL. Gunsmoke ## Drama. Country. I was too young to really appreciate this. Hawaii Five 0 (5-0 ) ##-##.5 Detective. Drama. Police. Police Drama. Good theme music! LOL. Hee Haw ##? Comedy. Variety show. I don't recall if this was funny. I remember it being at times dumb. It didn't contribute to a city boy's love of things country, I can tell you that. Here Come the Brides ## I was too young to really appreciate this, but some of those women were cute, and some seemed (sickeningly) sweet! Heroes ##-##.5 Sci-Fi. Sci-Fi Drama. If I knew what it was about, I might watch it more. Highlander ## Quite the bizarre theme. And WHY exactly were some of them always trying to kill the others?? while some preferred to live in peace? I know they got a lightning-like jolt, but what was the real significance? Who cares? Get your zapping jollies elsewise. I didn't get it. House ###-## Comedy. Doctor. Drama. Not bad. The Hulk ## Kind of depressing. Ironside ## I really liked Perry Mason. I really did not like Ironside. (He was more friendly and humorous and kind in P.M.) I Spy ?? I seem to remember a family member liking this. I don't really recall it much. But I might like to see a few episodes to see if I like it. It Takes a Thief ##.5-## Similar to the movie To Catch a Thief. Here, a thief works for a secret group in the government (the SIA ), and goes on missions that they assign him. Similar to Mission Impossible, but with hardly any cool gadgets, and with a focus on a thief's "skills". Jacques Cousteau's show ## Sometimes liked it a bunch. Sometimes. Jeopardy ###-## Game show. Overly brainy and obscure most of the time. Focuses on remembering details, not mental-agility skills. Special shows are usually more entertaining, and easier to get! LOL. The Jerry Springer Show #-## Talk show. I hated this show, and rarely watched it. The permitting of abusive speech and violent behavior was disgusting. Trashy TV. Jimmy Kimmel Live ##-##.5 Comedy. Talk show. Variety show. He's okay. Nice to his guests. Journeyman ##.5 Sci-Fi. Time travel. Only seen rarely, but I pretty much liked it when I did. Kojak ## Detective? Not a big fan. The guy was too cocky. La Femme Nikita ##-##.5 Action/Adventure. Drama. While I liked Alias, and saw all of its episodes before seeing any of these British shows, and hoped I'd like this too, I quickly tired of the dragging scenes, and the are-they-good-guys-or-bad-guys theme. About the Fall of 2007, I started to watch them on DVD, but gave up (in part due to having other shows to watch, and things to do ). Some think this is better than Alias. No problem! LOL. There is also at least one movie by this name, and another, very similar, called Point of No Return. Lassie ## Drama. Action/Adventure. Corny, even for a young boy like me. The whining-dog thing really got to me! lol. The Lawrence Welk Show ##-##.5 Variety Show. Music and dance. When a parent had it on. Maybe I was too young to really appreciate this. Life ####-##.5 Comedy. Detective. Drama. Police. I like it. The main male character kind of reminds me of me. Only he's smarter, and I am not so quirky. LOL. Well, maybe. Little House on the Prairie ##.5-## Drama. Yes, I actually liked it sometimes. And sometimes found it dull. Lost ###-## Action/Adventure. Drama. What I have seen is not bad! lol. In 2006, I watched it a number of times. In 2007, I watched in the first part of 2007. I started in 2008, but, just have other things to do. Love American Style ##? Dating show. Drama. Romance. Romantic comedy. I don't recall. End of theme song: "Love American Style, that's me and you". Macmillan and Wife ## Detective? So-so. Make a Wish ##?-###? I don't recall Make a Wish being the title of the show, but when I Googled words in the theme, IMDB had those words associated with a show by this name. Part of the Chorus of the Theme, as I remember it: "If you want it, you can get it, but to get it, you've got to want it. Anything you want to try, just let go, fly high!" Marcus Welby, M.D. ## Medical drama. Don't recall. Too young. But vaguely recall thinking it was mostly dull. The Mary Tyler Moore Show ## Comedy. Variety show. I don't recall if this was funny. I remember it being at times dumb. It didn't contribute to a city boy's love of things country, I can tell you that. Matlock ## Detective. Court. Not a big fan. The Merv Griffin Show ? Talk Show? Variety Show? Before my time. Mister Ed ## Comedy. Corny, even for a young boy like me. But I actually thought the talking-horse thing was cool! LOL. Mork & Mindy / Mork and Mindy 1978-1982 ##.5-#.5 Comedy. Sitcom. Goofy alien-on-Earth story. Probably made Robin Williams (Mork) famous. Pam Dawber was Mindy. As a boy or teen, I sometimes really liked it, sometimes didn't. Mork from Ork. Nanu-Nanu! (Or maybe Nanoo-Nanoo!.) The Morton Downy Show (or was it called The Morton Downy Jr. Show? ) #-##.5 Talk show. Sometimes I hated this show, and sometimes I liked it because they would talk about things other shows wouldn't. I rarely watched it. Some shows ended up being abusive in speech and even violent, which was disgusting. The host actually smoked on the show, when almost all other shows didn't. Music CHANNELS The # ratings varied. Various, music-related shows and videos. MTV, VH1, and Country channels, etc.? How often I watched or watch these varied or varies a lot. Considering I compose music and write songs, you would THINK that I would watch this (or listen to the radio) a lot. But I don't. I often enjoy the silence (or occasional loud music, LOL ). It keeps the mind clear for composing and thinking and listening or praying. On occasion, I do watch videos, to see what is being done in video production. For me, listening to music was about enjoying the music. Blabbing about GROUPS hasn't done much for me. I've delved into the Beatles and Elvis a bit, but that's enough! I've never really had any music idols, though I did have favorite groups. Band members' details seldom interested me much. (Movies about such are a different matter.) And I don't really care much about "technical" skill. If I don't like the music, how well it was played really isn't that relevant to me, but that's me. Lyrics are another matter entirely. (Sometimes they affect my enjoyment of music, sometimes not so much. It depends. And-- For 15 years I stopped listening to secular music, on principle, mostly. Now, I hate having to put out of my head evil lyrics. And "bad" or uninteresting music? I just don't LIKE to listen to it! On radio, media, live, or on TV. When you listen to or watch these, you typically get what they feed to you. I like to have more control over what comes at my heart and mind. Music SHOWS The # ratings varied. Various, music-related shows. Considering I compose music, you would have THUNK that I would have been more into music shows. Maybe I didn't really like a lot of the music that was played on TV series then, or thought the show was corny. I do remember a few that I occasionally would watch: American Bandstand. Captain and Tennille (spelling? ). Lawrence Welk, listed separately. The Osmonds. Sonny and Cher. Is that IT?? Soul Train. The Tonight Show, listed separately. And some others that don't come to mind at the moment. WHERE are the music shows today?? All on cable? NCIS ##?-##.5? (Saw when a friend was watching.) Not bad. Don't remember much. Saw when a friend was watching. Night Rider ## Action/Adventure. Detective. Not bad, when it wasn't corny. Northern Exposure ## Drama. Sort of a Comedy, maybe. Quirky small-town dramas, set in the far North (Alaska? ). A bit odd at times. Sometimes I kind of liked it. Oprah ###.5-## Talk show. Personal. Societal. I usually like it, though there are concerns about it being somewhat worldly in its varying wisdoms. Like most talk shows, TV and otherwise, I found that a topic was often not gone into deeply enough. The Partridge Family Family drama. Corny, even for a young boy like me. Phil Donahue ##-##.5 Talk show. Similar to Oprah, sort of. Politically Incorrect #.5-##.5 Talk show. Debate show. Sometimes I disliked this show, and sometimes I liked it because they would talk about things other shows wouldn't. Why can't we have a show that discusses things that others won't but hosted by someone somewhat conservative and Christian. Oh, we do, on TBN, The 700 Club, and the Angel Network (or whatever it's called ). The Prisoner #.5 Action/Adventure. Spy. Dull. I HATED watching this. And it gave me the creeps, as well as it should have. (I never "got" what it was all about until as an adult I finally watched some of the original episodes on DVD.) The Red Skelton Show ? ? Talk Show? Variety Show? Before my time. Rowen's and Martin's Laugh-off, or something like that. Comedy. Variety show. I don't recall if this was funny. I remember it being at times dumb. Sanford? and Sons/Son? ##? Comedy. Family. Drama? I don't really recall much. Seattle Stars Award Show. Variety show. Singers compete locally. Seinfeld ##.5-## Comedy. Drama. Okay comedy. Most of the time, more humorous than funny. Sesame Street ##.5-## Education. Children's. Young-children's show. Sex and the city ###-#5 Drama. Comedy. I saw enough to be able to give an opinion. Ethics are mostly supported, but morality in areas of sex are explored pretty much exclusively from an early 21st-century fornication-can-be-okay viewpoint. At times, sex scenes would definitely be rated R, and some even go over that line, as this was an HBO series. Male-female relationship topics are intriguingly explored, but usually not from a Christian or religious angle. Some homosexual topics have been explored. Though some episodes were interesting to me, I don't think I learned much about relationships, except, maybe, for what NOT to do! lol. Shark ###-## Comedy. Detective. Drama. Legal. Not bad. The Simpsons #.5-##.5 Animated Comedy. Tends to be pretty mean-spirited. Crass. Crude. And lots of dumb, dude. Six Million Dollar Man ## Action/Adventure. Drama. Sci-fi. Okay. Too much slow-mo. Soap (Yes, that's it's name.) #.5-## Sitcom. Rarely saw. Dumb. Quirky. Soap operas even! Soaps. Rarely saw. Stargate Various series. ##.5-## Action/Adventure. Sci-fi. Drama. So-so, but I have seen only a few episodes. I don't like the casting a whole lot. Some of the episodes were mighty strange, and could make you wonder, in a way that the movie the Matrix or the movie The Truman Show might have done! Stargate: Atlantis Stargate: SG-1 Star Trek. Deep Space Nine. (on TV.) ##.5-## Action/Adventure. Drama. Sci-fi. A few episodes of misc. seasons. My comments about this are similar to Star Trek, The Next Generation and Star Trek Voyager. Star Trek. The Next Generation. (on DVD.) ###-## Sci-fi. Drama. Action/Adventure. I occasionally watched this series on TV. I saw ALL of this series on DVD -- or that's what my Netflix account seems to indicate. LOL. Season 1. ###? Seasons 2-7. ###?-##.5? When I first saw this series, I didn't like it. A not-terribly-friendly captain who seemed stuffy, if not stuck up; "Outer Limits" types of episodes. Cerebral sometimes but often little or no action; characters that were interesting, but not many that were loveable, as in The Original Series (TOS); I basically didn't like it a whole lot. And this after growing up loving TOS! See THAT review regarding the science, but I'd say that Next Generation and other Star Trek series went pretty far beyond, or it seemed that way to me. Next Generation carried on the legacy of lack of real religion in TOS, but made it even less likely for someone to believe. Superman ##? Action/Adventure. Sci-fi. Don't recall. The movie "Superman Returns" is the best Superman I've seen to date. Twilight Zone The LATER series. ##? Sci-fi. Mystery. Action/Adventure. Supernatural. Drama. What happened! I didn't really like it much. It seemed, dumber, and still does by comparison with the original series. I have seen only a few episodes. One made one consider the reality of life. The Unit ##?-###? (Saw when a friend was watching.) Not bad. Don't remember much. Saw when a friend was watching. The Untouchables ##? Almost never watched. As an adult I still find it dull. And I hate gangster themes, where criminals and even murderers are portrayed as being kinda cool. What's My Line? ###.5-## Acting. Comedy. Improvisational comedy. The first time I saw this, I said, "What IS this??" It was so funny! LOL. I was impressed in part because I assumed that it was people from the audience doing improvisational acting. When I saw another show, I realized that it was the same people. So it didn't seem as special to me. I don't know why I didn't go out of my way to watch it; I could have. Sometimes it's pretty funny. Sometimes just a bit too dumb to be funny. Drew Carey hosted. Wheel of Fortune ##.5-## Game show. Can be fun. Mostly "luck" early on, but requires mental agility and quickness. Wonder Woman ##.5-## Action/Adventure. Drama. Sci-fi. Saw all of Season 1 on DVD. I believe there were 3 seasons total. Though it was kind of corny for me as a young man, I actually kind of like it as an older man. X-Files ##.5 Drama. Sci-fi. It's O-K, but I have seen only a few episodes. I don't really recall much except that it's about aliens and about some alien conspiracy of some sort. In general, I recall it BOTHERING me that there was so little REAL, factual evidence presented from the MILLIONS of UFO sightings and thousands upon thousands of abductions. It's almost like TV and movies are being made about these things to deliberately get people to think it's all just fiction. But it isn't. Really. Zoom ## Young-children's show. ? ? ? ?? IF YOU KNOW WHAT THIS IS, LET ME KNOW! I saw a Western TV show--don't remember what--which had a missionary to Indians leaving and another taking over. The person taking over was a woman. When the man who was planning to leave saw this, he decided to stay a while to help. The episode had the single woman visiting the Indians, and becoming acquainted. When she visited, she spent time with the Indian women, realizing that they practiced polygamy, and that the Chief had multiple wives. She of course was curious about that. But more than this, the wives were curious about her, being single with no husband at all. While she may have found it odd that there were more than one wife, they responded saying something like, How much sense did it really make for one woman to do so much work in a household?, and that it made more sense if work was shared among women! LOL. (In those days, and even today in some places, there could be a LOT of work, manual labor, that is.) In fact, they thought that only one woman was--um, I think--UNCIVILIZED. LOL. (Reversing the typical stereotype that Indians were less civilized than the so-called white man.) I don't recall if jealousy was addressed. This MIGHT have been in B&W. It's pretty rare to find ANY show exploring any positive sides to polygamy, as the USA (and other "civilized" countries ) often can't get past thinking of it as a sexual thing, and a jealousy thing, and a cult thing. It's in the Bible, practiced by some pretty big names in there. And while multiple wives can be complicated, I am sure, it's not necessarily bizarre or only part of some "cult" mentality. IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT THIS TV SHOW WAS, LET ME KNOW. Thanks.
Occasionally, specialty shows, like: The # ratings varied. The Academy Awards dance shows ice shows The Grammys The Olympics Maybe the Emmys, but hardly ever and so on.
Mini-series: The # ratings varied. More coming, maybe.
Roots ????.5 I don't know if or how many I saw. Don't recall. I hear it was powerful though. Taken ### Action. Sci-fi. Interesting concept, alien abductions. A practically-believable presentation in many aspects, though, like others, seriously lacking in GIVING actually-available evidences for that theme.
And LOTS of other TV shows that I am certain I am forgetting at the moment!
Wow. Did I really watch that much TV?? LOL.
ENDNOTES/FOOTNOTES, sort of: (deliberately out of order )
* Yeah, I know, Star Trek was Science Fiction, and it's old, and some of it effects seem cheesy now, compared to what is being made now, but still, the original Star Trek TV show had great characters, humor, and for its time (early 1960s) was pretty well done, all LONG before the Star Wars film effects blew everything out of the water. And some of the stories it tells are pretty decent too, lack of religion-associated Spirituality aside (typically ).
During a time in the U.S. when there were few black, Asian, and woman stars on TV shows, Star Trek had characters like Uhura (a black woman), Sulu (an Asian man), and even Chekov (a Russian male--during the Cold War! LOL.).
I once heard that the woman who played Uhura was thinking about quitting the show, but someone, Martin Luther King, Jr., I think, advised her to keep with it, that hers was a unique opportunity, because very few black women were stars on TV in the early 1960s!
Then there was the "green-blooded" alien Spock from the planet Vulcan, who was half Vulcan and half Human! A pretty cool guy. And maybe, as Kirk once said, the most "HUMAN" person he had ever known. (In our imperfect states, most of us aren't fully Human, not till the Resurrection.)
So there! One of the better TV shows of its day. LOL.
(For more of my thoughts on Star Trek, LOL, see My favorite TV show. LOL. Funny.)
*1* DULL EDIT NOTES, LOL, no, really! LOL: 8/18/2008 Updates about recent TV watching. BECAUSE OF A COMPUTER / MS OFFICE GLITCH, ~7/15/2008 -- which was between the last document update and this one -- I had to copy/paste some newer and edited sections into this document. In doing so I might have missed some things. Font size and slight text-formatting changes. Moved some INTRO notes below the list. Renamed at least one section. Added at least one sub-section. A Personal-Public Blog (but not Public Domain ).
LIVE SHOWS and CONCERTS I have been TO, Selected Several artists are NOT listed, explained below.
VERSION: 8/18/2008. *1*
My MAIN LIST for SHOWS: Who wants to DO something, like see SHOWS or MOVIES, or catch the SIGHTS?
INTRO:
In my EARLY years, I really couldn't afford to attend many shows.
That changed in recent years; and so I began to attend more Live shows.
I started with a big name: Paul McCartney! LOL.
But I still haven't seen as many as I might like to.
For years, starting when I was about 18 and a half, I basically stopped listening to secular music. LOL. On principle. "Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it flow the Springs of Life!" I could have just filtered the lyrics, I suppose, but I had other reasons to stop as well. Not the least of which, radio was frustrating--I was always flipping the dial! And as a believer, I didn't spend much time with people who actively listened to secular music. I didn't have cable and MTV. And, I couldn't really afford to buy albums. And I lived in places where people PLAYED music, and had the TV going a lot. I occasionally listened to contemporary Christian radio.
I did this for 15 years! LOL.
Of course, one can't entirely get away from music when one lives in a big city. So I heard it everywhere. TV, movies, stores, in school (where I took music for years ), people's cars, people's houses, family members, even in grocery stores and elevators! LOL.
But feeling personally embarrassed that I had never heard Washington's own Nirvana, and their famous song "Smells Like Teen Spirit" -- a song that basically brought Grunge into the mainstream -- I slowly began to selectively listen again to Secular music, though I still don't really listen much to the radio.
I also started to buy CDs, mostly Best-of CDs, which, again, I couldn't previously afford. Now I have a sizeable CD collection. LOL. But at times, I still love the silence.
Before listening again, I had over the years gone to several Christian shows. (An assembly I attended put them on.)
Shows listed:
I went to some shows for reasons other than knowing I liked it, such as someone inviting me, someone suggesting it, or me expanding my musical horizons as a musician, composer, lyricist, and songwriter.
So, from this list, you might NOT get a very good idea of what I like, which is mostly Pop and Rock, and some of the better stuff from most other musical genres.
Generally NOT listed here are Trade Shows, Conventions, and similar events, etc., though I attended several of them.
Now for the lists, what I can remember anyway. LOL. Christian and Secular are listed here and there.
CHRISTIAN and called Christian (selected):
A LARGE number of TV performances that are not listed. A large number of venue performances not listed. A number of performances I myself sang or played in. (Not listed here.)
EVENTS: (Artists I saw and/or heard at these are often NOT listed here or elsewhere.)

Amy Grant. Bethany Dillon. Bob Bennett. CLASSICAL. Some. May also be listed under THEATER, etc. Dan Peek. (Previously from the secular band America.) Dennis Agajanian. Hubert and Myers / Hubert & Myers. Jaci Velasquez. Maybe the loudest Christian concert I ever attended. But the music was decent. Keith Green. KJ52. At Freedomfest / Freedom Fest, 8/17/2008. LOCAL Christian bands and artists. I want to do this more. Michael W. Smith. OPERA. Some. May also be listed under THEATER, etc. Phil Keaggy. (A number of times.) Randy Stonehill. (Multiple times.) SECULAR, maybe Secular, or Misc. CONCERTS and OTHER TYPES OF PERFORMANCES: SEE ALSO THEATER section.
I've seen several shows at venues that I went to regularly or semi-regularly that are not listed here. For Example, at Jazz Alley and Tula's (another Jazz club).
And there were other shows I went to, or went to part of, that are not listed, as I didn't keep track of this sort of thing.
Britney Spears. (Yep! LOL! Really. As a music composer, I was curious as to what a big-name pop star show would be like. And SOME of the music is pretty decent. Nominated for a Grammy, and sold many millions for some reason!) The Boomtown Rats. The one song I knew before I went was "I don't like Mondays". Buddy Guy. CLASSICAL. Some. May also be listed under THEATER, etc. Dave Brubeck and Ramsey Lewis. Dehner Franks playing with the Everett Symphony Orchestra. Elton John. I saw him in Anaheim, CA, at a venue adjacent to the convention center where I was attending a music trade show called NAMM. He was being honored or "awarded" there. Before he came on, several of his songs were done by other performers as a tribute to his musicianship. Some of those names were pretty famous. Jewel. At the Puyallup Fair. I saw part of the concert. The Knack. "My Sharona"! LOL. Hey, for a while, it was my favorite song. (Oops. Should I admit that? LOL.) They signed something for me, but it may be long gone. Sharona, btw, for those who don't know, was a band member's girlfriend's name. LOL. I saw her backstage. Local secular bands. I may want to do this more. Maktub. A local band with lots of interesting music and songs, especially off albums 1 and 2. I've seen more than once. M-PACT. A local a cappella vocal group. OPERA. Some. May also be listed under THEATER, etc. Paul McCartney. My first big concert in years! THAT wasn't cheap! But I had great seats for once. LOL. Rock Boy. A local group. SingTango! Songs and Dances of Argentina. Singing, and some accompanying dancing. At the "Town Hall" venue in Seattle, 11/04/2006, 8:00PM. LOL. Several shows seen as part of college or university music classes. VARIOUS OTHERS. Some just don't come to mind. LOL.
VENUES:
Jazz Alley. Tula's. (a Jazz club)
I saw SO MANY shows at these that I am listing the venues and not many of the performers!
Though Jazz clubs are prominently listed, I generally like to listen to the genres of Rock and Pop.
I recently started seeing more Live shows, as this is something I didn't do much of in previous years; some, just not a lot.
I might like to go to performance venues more often. (Hint, hint.)
THEATER (selected): And I don't mean movies. Lol.
big! The Musical. Billy Elliot. (Saw in London.) Some questionable morals and ethics, if I recall correctly. Not a bad show otherwise though. CLASSICAL. Some. Or should this go under shows? Probably. OPERA. Some. Or should this go under shows? Hmm. Peter Pan. (Or was it Hook? LOL. Hmm.) The Phantom of the Opera. Sayonara. Wicked. The untold story of the Wicked Witch of the West. (Saw in London.) Pretty cool actually. Corny but cool.
DANCING and SKATING:
Other than dancing and skating performances, and theater dance, I myself have danced on stage. I have gone to some local dance and awards shows.
Crystal Ball (Local all-day dance competitions and exhibitions.) Other local dance exhibitions.
OTHER SHOWS--selected. Just a few, as they come to mind:
The circus. The Harlem Globetrotters ~~~ My mom performing, in a choir. (A long time ago. C'mon, Mom, sing again! ) My brother performing, piano and harmonica. My sister performing, singing. Me performing! VARIOUS: Yes, I have done several things, LOL: Singing and playing solo piano. Singing an original at the Port Townsend Jazz Festival. Singing Bass AND Tenor in various choirs in university and community college choirs. Singing in an evening Jazz choir one quarter. Singing in a well-known local choir several quarters. CC class recitals. University class recitals. Lesson recitals. Grade school recitals. Singing and playing at a Christian College Age group. High school choir (for a short time ). Some DANCING on stage here and there. Even reciting an original poem, in front of hundreds, I guess. LOL. Et cetera! Etc. ~~~ Sporting events (RARE! ) (Rare, very rare. WHY? I preferred to play, not watch. I did see the Sonics, Sounders, and maybe some other games, including some university, community college, local, friends & acquaintances games, and "church" games, etc. I played competitively for several years. Now I'd rather see a movie, or DO something, than watch sports.) University of Washington women's volleyball. (I used to play volleyball competitively.)
A few ending words:
I am not listing many shows, especially some of the Christian concerts, and shows at certain venues I frequented for a while.
Some artists many may not have heard of before. And many are from long enough ago that I simply don't recall the names at this time.
Yadda yadda yadda. LOL.
My MAIN LIST for SHOWS: Who wants to DO something, like see SHOWS or MOVIES, or catch the SIGHTS?
Enjoy!
*1* DULL EDIT NOTES, LOL, no, really! LOL: 8/18/2008. Major rearranging and some reformatting. Changed font sizes, and some text formatting. Additions, etc. Posted multiple times to get text formatting right. 11/2/2007. Added a couple more. Changed title again. Tried to fix formatting. Enlarged all font sizes by 1. For some reason, several shows didn't show up in previous edit; maybe I forgot to post it! LOL. 10/25/2007. Added several. Finally alphabetized after a year! LOL. Wow. Was Jesus a NICE Guy?

(Read all of this first post before answering. Don't get the idea that the question is blasphemous or sacrilegious. That's not the intent. People are often judged by how they speak. Let us see what His Words to or about others say about Him. Thanks!)
.
If you hadn't been to many religious services, or if you didn't know people who always seemed to have something nice to say about "Jesus", and you started to read the "New Testament" (NT) for the first time, and you came across verses like, "You brood of vipers" to His detractors, or "O you of little faith" to His friends, or "Fool(s)!..." to whomever that might apply, you MIGHT think the Man was a "jerk"!
Well maybe YOU wouldn't, but others would.
.
So, show people here, from the Bible--
Was He "meek and mild"? Or was He "a consummate jerk"? Or was He "somewhere in between"?
.
Many people here will likely have similar views, and I have mine, but what is yours? Make sure you QUOTE verses to back it up!
.
Now for the rules.
IN ANSWERING/commenting--
Make sure you are quoting something He SAID to or about someone, not something He did, or something someone said about Him. In this Blog, let's look ONLY at His Words to or about people, etc. Please.
I don't just want personal opinions in this Blog only. And I don't necessarily want woozy, fluffy, Jesus-hugs-me-at night kinds of experiences! I want to see Scripture.
In fact, if you like, you may even quote Scripture only, and give no opinions at all.
Be sure to NOT include a bunch of Scripture quotes others have added already though, unless you have a really Good reason, like a substantially different translation or something.
JOHN 8 -- Please don't quote from John 8--Yahchanan/Yochanan 8--the story of the woman caught in adultery, because the story is not even in the earliest EXTANT texts known, last I read. And where it does appear, it is in various forms. Or so I read of all this years ago. (Any new info about this is appreciated!) And if you do feel inclined to quote it anyways, without some new, scholarly info, and go against this restriction, I may be inclined to blast it apart. And I don't want to do that. I might just delete your post for not following the rules. Okay?
Feel free to refer to the woman at the well, or to anyone else He talked to, for that matter.
Revelation is NOT off limits, but, keep in mind that it's not Yahshua on Earth during His time here, and all the frustrations that entailed; and for the most part, most of the statements He actually SPEAKS in Revelation are not something He said toward or about a particular person or group (though of course certain of they could apply to individuals even today). Though Revelation is a Revelation of Christ, and most of it is about people and events, please don't go overboard in using any of that material. I am mostly looking for quotes that came out of His mouth to or about others. Quote Words out of His Own Mouth.
No fair referring to His sacrifice on the cross! et al., for that's also not words from His mouth to or about people. Well, He did say " Father forgive them, for they don't know what they're doing. That at least seems pretty nice, I think. But words ABOUT Him, don't quote. I'll do it once here, and quote one of Paul's comments ABOUT Him; from Galatians 2: 20e, "... Who loved me, and gave Himself up for me". (Compare Romans1: 16; 1Corinthians15: 1-about 10; and Acts chapter 2.) There it is. Now no more quotes here ABOUT Him, only FROM or OF Him.
Okay, do it! Show what kind of Person He was towards others from His spoken Words only, especially if you can show that Iesous was kind and loving and kind and compassionate and kind and gentle.
USE ONLY HIS WORDS TO OR ABOUT INDIVIDUALS THAT CAME FROM HIS OWN MOUTH, not His other actions.
.
Here we go--Words of Yah-Hoshea (or whatever) / "Jesus" of Nazareth -- that is, Words of or from the One Named "Yah saves!" or "Yah is salvation!" to or about other BEINGS, and even to or about GROUPS, yes, Words that show what kind of Person He was towards others.
. .
Where's your comment?
I may choose to "pre-review all responses before they show up". We shall see. So if your comment does not show up immediately, and it tells you that it will be up for review or something, that's what that means. If you don't follow the rules I laid out, or if I think a comment contains rudeness, don't expect it to show up.
Be polite AND courteous in all posts. Please, Thank you!
.
Readers--
I may or may not let something that may be considered to be impolite be posted, however, so, be forewarned of that as well.
.
Take care, and as the NT and OT both say, "Love your neighbor as yourself".
