Safe Harbor

"Safe Harbor" - it is a nautical term by the way and I just happen to be an ex-Navy girl - "is a place to come to when you've been damaged or beaten by the storms of life - it's a place of rest, refuge, and restoration - for a time - to receive healing or repair damages, and rest - in the Father's arms - no camping out here indefinitely - it will soon be time to get back out there and be about the Father's business. Yes, you can minister broken but how much more and better can you serve if you are restored and whole?"

"What a blessing was that stillness as He brought them safely into harbor." Psalms 107:30 NLT

Psalm 100 (NLT) says: "Shout with joy to the Lord, O earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before Him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are His. We are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving: go into His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him and bless His Name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and His faithfulness continues to each generation." Wow - isn't that awesome!! Especially that last sentence about his unfailing love continuing forever and His faithfulness continuing to each generation - whew - that's eternity - isn't it? The Doubleday Dictionary says eternity is timeless and unchangeable and infinite in duration. I don't know about you - but I sure am glad I'm a child of God and can participate wholeheartedly in that promise!!

The Lord is my Light ... Jun 23, 2006 2:02 pm

This is a beautiful song that I played over and over and over during and after my divorce 11 years ago. I'm listening to it right now as I'm writing this. I just wrote a little testimony in another post How can we NOT praise Him ... you might want to check it out - no sense in repeating anything here. I'm hearing it with different ears now - ears of healing - wow! It's a song written by Andre Crouch on his "Mercy" album. Blessings!!

The Lord is my light
And my salvation
Whom shall I fear
He's the strength of my life
Day and night
No need to be afraid

I have a secret place
Where I seek God's face
He gives me peace for my troubled mind
He carries me over mountains high
He comforts me through the valleys low
When I'm going through a storm
I'm protected in His arms
Oh my Father loves me
That's why I say

When evil tries to destroy me
Tries to make me fall
He puts me on a rock
Out of the reach of them all
When my enemies try to hurt me
I don't have to worry
I'm in His care, not just here
But everywhere

I go to that hiding place
Where I seek my God's face
I find the strength to go on
He carries me over mountains high
He comforts me through the valleys low
When Im going through a storm
I'm protected in His arms
Oh Father
Don't you know He is

The Lord is my light
And my salvation
Whom shall I fear

He is my strength
My strong tower
He's my hiding place
From day to day
He's my strength
The Lord is my strong tower
Though you walk through the valley
The shadow of death
Don't you know that you're not alone

The Lord is my light
And my salvation
Whom shall I fear
He's the strength of my life
Day and night
No need to be afraid

July 19th will be the 11th anniversary of my divorce. Don't know why I'm thinking about this today but it caused me to turn to Psalm 57 - a scripture that got me through that dark time - reading it now through eyes of healing instead of eyes of pain:

Psalm 57 (NLT) "1 Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to you for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of your wings until this violent storm is past.
2 I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill his purpose for me.
3 He will send help from heaven to save me, rescuing me from those who are out to get me.
My God will send forth his unfailing love and faithfulness. Interlude
4 I am surrounded by fierce lions who greedily devour human prey--whose teeth pierce like spears and arrows, and whose tongues cut like swords.
5 Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens! May your glory shine over all the earth.
6 My enemies have set a trap for me. I am weary from distress. They have dug a deep pit in my path, but they themselves have fallen into it. Interlude
7 My heart is confident in you, O God; no wonder I can sing your praises!
8 Wake up, my soul! Wake up, O harp and lyre! I will waken the dawn with my song.
9 I will thank you, Lord, in front of all the people. I will sing your praises among the nations.
10 For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens. Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
11 Be exalted, O God, above the highest heavens. May your glory shine over all the earth."

Thank God for His mercy, thank God for His protection, thank God He saved me, thank God He rescued me, I tried to take my life during this time - I just wanted the pain to go away - I drank and drank and drank during this time - I isolated myself and was deeply depressed - all the time going to church and work with a pasted on smile - barely functioning. It's also the time when blocked memories of childhood abuses came flooding back to me - lots of issues - lots of pain - but He was with me the whole time - whew - now I can look back and dance and sing and say "I thank you Lord in front of all these people - a people of many nations - I will sing praises for Your unfailing love and Your faithfulness - be exalted Lord and let Your glory shine over all the earth." Crying tears of gladness and joy now instead of tears of pain - He brought me through with much healing.

Points ... Jun 22, 2006 1:03 pm

A man dies and goes to heaven. Of course, St. Peter meets him at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter says, "Here's how it works. You need 100 points to make it into heaven. You tell me all the good things you've done, and I give you a certain number of points for each item, depending on how good it was. When you reach 100 points, you get in."

"Okay," the man says, "I was married to the same woman for 50 years and never cheated on her, even in my heart."

"That's wonderful," says St. Peter, "that's worth three points!"

"Three points?" he says. "Well, I attended church all my life and supported its ministry with my tithe and service."

"Terrific!" says St. Peter. "That's certainly worth a point."

"One point?!!" "I started a soup kitchen in my city and worked in a shelter for homeless veterans."

"Fantastic, that's good for two more points," he says.

"Two points!?!!" Exasperated, the man cries. "At this rate the only way I'll get into heaven is by the grace of God."

"Bingo, 100 points! Come on in!"

Butt Dust Jun 22, 2006 12:58 pm

A visiting minister waxed eloquent during the offertory prayer.

"Dear Lord," he began, with arms extended toward heaven and a rapturous look on his upturned face.

"Without you, we are but dust. . . "

He would have continued but at that moment my very obedient daughter (who was actually listening!) leaned over to me and asked, quite audibly in her loud, shrill little girl voice, "Mom, what is butt dust?"

A prisoner for the Master ... Jun 21, 2006 2:00 pm

I ran across this scripture in Ephesians 4:1-6 (Message Bible) recently and it has just tugged at my heart, “While I’m locked up here, a prisoner for the Master” – whoa – a prisoner for the Lord – that excited me – of course we know this is Paul talking to the Church of Ephesus while he was imprisoned there and this whole chapter is about unity in the body of Christ. So let me continue with this scripture “. . . I want you to get out there and walk – better yet, run! – on the road God called you to travel. I don’t want any of you sitting around on your hands. I don’t want anyone strolling off, down some path that goes nowhere.” Is that clear enough for you?

“And mark that you do this with humility and discipline – not fits and starts, but steadily, pouring yourselves out for each other in acts of love, alert at noticing differences and quick at mending fences.” Guess I should take a moment to ask if any of you have some fences to mend?? If so, you might want to go ahead and take care of this task - and do it as an act of love!! You see it here for yourself – might even bring more order into your household and your life – which is where you need to start first.

Continuing, “You were all called to travel on the same road and in the same direction, so stay together, both outwardly and inwardly. You have one Master, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who rules over all, works through all, and is present in all. Everything you are and think and do is permeated with Oneness.” I consider it an honor to be a “prisoner for the Master” – He has certainly captured my heart - how about you?

Please - I encourage you to study the scriptures for yourself and allow God to reveal to you through those scriptures.

I opened the Bible and it fell on Psalm 18 (New Living Translation). This is what it had to say starting with verse 1: “I love you Lord; you are my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the strength of my salvation, and my stronghold. I will call on the Lord, who is worthy of praise, for He saves me from my enemies. The ropes of death surrounded me, the floods of destruction swept over me. The grave wrapped its ropes around me, death itself stared me in the face. But in my distress I cried out to the Lord, yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from His sanctuary; my cry reached His ears.” Whoa – how powerful is that? Do you feel like the floods of destruction are sweeping over you lately? Cry out to your God – let your praises come forth – despite how you might feel – despite the circumstances around you – He is a mighty God – and you are His child – let Him be your strength and your shield – let Him carry that burden for you – He will never leave you nor forsake you nor reject you – He is right there in the midst of your trouble and your pain – you are not alone – even when you feel alone – you are not.

Are your fruits showing? Jun 19, 2006 2:12 pm
393 Views
I just want to ask you a question. Are your fruits showing? You might say ‘what do you mean ‘are my fruits showing’ – what fruits are you talking about’? Well, I am talking about the fruits of the Spirit – notice this is Spirit with a capital S meaning the Holy Spirit. In Galatians 5:22-23 (New Living Translation) it says “But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Do you notice that these are very positive attributes or we might even call them ‘good fruit’? Mostly we only hear about the first three fruits which are love, peace, and joy. I don’t know about you but I haven’t heard a lot about the other six fruits of the Spirit which are patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These six fruits are just as important as the first three. God expects us to walk in all nine of the fruits of the Spirit.

If there are good fruits then there must also be bad fruits. It might surprise you but just three verses previous to the scriptures about fruits of the Spirit is a list of the lusts of the flesh or our sinful nature or bad fruits. Galatians 5:19-21 says “When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, your lives will produce these evil results: sexual immorality, impure thoughts, eagerness for lustful pleasure, idolatry, participation in demonic activities, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, divisions, the feeling that everyone is wrong except those in your own little group, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other kinds of sin.”

So tell me now – If you are not walking in the fruit of the Spirit – are you walking in your sinful nature or lusts of the flesh as the King James Version calls it? Are you walking in good fruits or rotten fruits – are you a good tree or a bad tree? The Good News is God will help you walk in good fruits – I’m not kidding you – He really will. He loves you that much. But you have to take the first step in that direction – you need to ask Him for His help and then submit (humbly cooperate) to Him.

Matthew 7:18-20 says “A good tree can't produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can't produce good fruit. So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. Yes, the way to identify a tree or a person is by the kind of fruit that is produced.” Are you producing good fruit? Are your fruits showing?
