Safe Harbor

"Safe Harbor" - it is a nautical term by the way and I just happen to be an ex-Navy girl - "is a place to come to when you've been damaged or beaten by the storms of life - it's a place of rest, refuge, and restoration - for a time - to receive healing or repair damages, and rest - in the Father's arms - no camping out here indefinitely - it will soon be time to get back out there and be about the Father's business. Yes, you can minister broken but how much more and better can you serve if you are restored and whole?"

"What a blessing was that stillness as He brought them safely into harbor." Psalms 107:30 NLT

It's raining now - I love to hear the rain falling - such a beautiful sound.

This morning I was out walking on the walking trail in the park behind my house. There is one part of the trail that is pretty steep - you have to huff and puff more to get up it especially in this hot muggy weather we're having in northern Alabama. But there is a stand of tall pine trees about halfway up this steep part of the trail and just knowing these shadows are there and a little coolness makes it easier to finish the hill and then this morning as I reached the peak of the hill and a wonderful cooling breeze hit me - it was so nice and now going downhill was the easy part even if it was in the full blazing sun.

Today was a little different - God giving me insights as I walked this hill - a hill that I've walked for over 2 years now - showing me as I walked in the shade of the pine trees - that I was always under the shadow of His wings and in His protection - and it was refreshing and restful and gave me strength to go on - to 'fear not' what was ahead or be discouraged - to finish what He had started in me - whether in the midst of a battle or impending battle no matter how hot or what conditions are going on around me - to be focused on the narrow path before me - to complete the race so to speak.

But then when I got to the peak of the hill and that breeze enveloped me - the wind of the Spirit - that ruwach breath of God - to feel His touch on me - so rewarding - the peace - the love - the joy of it - words cannot convey. It was all worth it - the preparations, the sweating, the lack of comfort, the heat, pressing in, staying focused, the battle ... knowing He is always with me to strengthen and encourage and refresh and give me rest - He knowing the end before I even began - knowing He chose me (even if I don't understand why) - knowing I would walk in the Son (sun) and the Son always being with me - never to leave me nor forsake me.

Anyway, it's good to have on the full armor of God and to walk with the Son - depending on His strength not your own to get us through. I trust in Him more and more - moment by moment. His love is more than awesome.

Jezebel literally translated means "without cohabitation" - Jezebel will not dwell with anyone unless she can control and dominate the relationship. When she 'seems' submissive it is only for some gain or motive or selfishness. From her heart she yeilds to no one - not even the Holy Spirit.

On a desert island ... Jul 7, 2006 3:59 pm

Just received this by email and thought I would share with you all:

A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men on it were able to swim to a small, desert like island. The two survivors, not knowing what else to do, agree that they had no other recourse but to pray to God.

However, to find out whose prayer was more powerful, they agreed to divide the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the island.

The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the first man saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land, and he was able to eat its fruit. The other man's parcel of land remained barren.

After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife. The next day, another ship was wrecked, and the only survivor was a woman who swam to his side of the land. On the other side of the i sland, there was nothing.

Soon the first man prayed for a house, clothes, more food. The next day, like magic, all of these were given to him. However, the second man still had nothing.

Finally, the first man prayed for a ship, so that he and his wife could leave the island. In the morning, he found a ship docked at his side of the island. The first man boarded the ship with his wife and decided to leave the second man on the island. He considered the other man unworthy to receive God's blessings, since none of his prayers had been answered.

As the ship was about to leave, the first man heard a voice from heaven booming, "Why are you leaving your companion on the island?"

"My blessings are mine alone, since I was the one who prayed for them," the first man answered. "His prayers were all unanswered and so he does not deserve anything."

"You are mistaken!" the voice rebuked him. "He had only one prayer, which I a nswered. If not for that, you would not have received any of my blessings."

"Tell me," the first man asked the voice, "what did he pray for that I should owe him anything?"

"He prayed that all your prayers be answered."

For all we know, our blessings are not the fruits of our prayers alone, but those of another praying for us.

When Jesus died on the cross he was thinking of you!

OTHER WORDS:

Silent (Adjective) - making no sound, having no sound, quiet, still, hushed, idle, inactive (DD)

OPPOSITES:

Habakkuk 2:20 - "But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him."

Revelation 8:1 - "And when he had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour."

OTHER SAYINGS:
"Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer."

"Silence is often misinterpreted but never misquoted."

"Simply unplug from all the clamor, and make room for eternity in your life." John Eldredge - "Journey of Desire" page 26.

Bear with me - it will all come together at some point. And there will be balance to it even if it appears to be somewhat unbalanced at the moment. So just think on these things a bit - there will be more in a few days.

Please feel free to look up anything that I've stated here - don't take my word for it - study on your own if you feel a need too.

Somewhere along the way, the Federal Courts and the Supreme Court have misinterpreted the U.S. Constitution. How could fifty States be wrong?

Laus Deo - a little history lesson Jul 2, 2006 9:02 am

LAUS DEO: A little history lesson you may enjoy.

I thought that you and others may like to see this. One detail that is not mentioned, in DC, is that there can never be a building of greater height than the Washington Monument.

With all the uproar about removing the Ten Commandments, etc... This is worth a moment or two of your time. I was not aware of this historical information.

On the aluminum cap, atop the Washington Monument in Washington, DC, are displayed two words: Laus Deo. No one can see these words. In fact, most visitors to the monument are totally unaware they are even there and for that matter, probably couldn't care less.

Once you know Laus Deo's history, you will want to share this with everyone you know. But these words have been there for many years; they are 555 feet, 5.125 inches high, perched top the monument, facing skyward to the Father of our nation, overlooking the 69 square miles which comprise the District of Columbia, capital of the United States of America.

Laus Deo! Two seemingly insignificant, unnoticed words. Out of sight and, one might think, out of mind, but very meaningfully placed at the highest point over what is the most powerful city in the most successful nation in the world.

So, what do those two words, in Latin, composed of just four syllables and only seven letters, possibly mean? Very simply, they say "Praise be to God!"

Though construction of this giant obelisk began in 1848, when James Polk was President of the United States, it was not until 1888 that the monument was inaugurated and opened to the public. It took twenty five years to finally cap the memorial with a tribute to the Father of our nation, Laus Deo.

"Praise be to God!"

From atop this magnificent granite and marble structure, visitors may take in the beautiful panoramic view of the city with its division into four major segments. From that vantage point, one can also easily see the original plan of the designer, Pierre Charles l'Enfant... a perfect cross imposed upon the landscape, with the White House to the north. The Jefferson Memorial is to the south, the Capitol to the east and the Lincoln Memorial to the west.

A cross you ask? Why a cross? What about separation of church and state? Yes, a cross, separation of church and state was not, is not, in the Constitution. So, read on. How interesting and, no doubt, intended to carry a profound meaning for those who bother to notice.

Praise be to God! Within the monument itself are 898 steps and 50 landings. As one climbs the steps and pauses at the landings the memorial stones share a mess age. On the 12th Landing is a prayer offered by the City of Baltimore; on the 20th is a memorial presented by some Chinese Christians; on the 24th a presentation made by Sunday School children from New York and Philadelphia quoting Proverbs 10, Luke 18:16 and Proverbs 22:6. Praise be to God!

When the cornerstone of the Washington Monument was laid on July 4, 1848 deposited within it were many items including the Holy Bible presented by the Bible Society. Praise be to God! Such was the discipline, the moral direction, and the spiritual mood given by the founder and first President of our unique democracy. "One Nation, Under God."

I am awed by Washington's prayer for America. Have you never read it? Well, now is your unique opportunity, so read on!

"Almighty God, we make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection, that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government, and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large. And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to, demean ourselves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

Laus Deo!

When one stops to observe the inscriptions found in public places all over our nation's capitol, he or she will easily find the signature of God, as it is unmistakably inscribed everywhere you look. You may forget the width and height of "Laus Deo," its location, or the architects but no one who reads this will be able to forget its meaning, or these words: "Unless the Lord builds the house its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain." (Psalm 127:1)

Our Flag Jul 1, 2006 6:50 pm

Do you know that at military funerals, the 21-gun salute stands for the sum of the numbers in the year 1776?

Have you ever noticed the honor guard pays meticulous attention to correctly folding the American flag 13 times? You probably thought it was to symbolize the original 13 colonies, but we learn something new every day!

The 1st fold of our flag is a symbol of life.

The 2nd fold is a symbol of our belief in eternal life.

The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans departing our ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense of our country to attain peace throughout the world.

The 4th fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in time of war for His divine guidance.

The 5th fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen Decatur, "Our Country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong.

The 6th fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that We pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States Of America, and the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.

The 7th fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies, whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic.

The 8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day.

The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of the men and women who have made this country great has been molded.

The 10th fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since they were first born.

The 11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and King Solomon and glorifies in the Hebrews eyes, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in the Christians eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.

The 13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost reminding us of our nations motto, "In God We Trust."

After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States, preserving for us the rights, privileges and freedoms we enjoy today.

There are some traditions and ways of doing things that have deep meaning. In the future, you'll see flags folded and now you will know why.

Share this with the children you love and all others who love the symbol of "Liberty and Freedom”
