Safe Harbor

"Safe Harbor" - it is a nautical term by the way and I just happen to be an ex-Navy girl - "is a place to come to when you've been damaged or beaten by the storms of life - it's a place of rest, refuge, and restoration - for a time - to receive healing or repair damages, and rest - in the Father's arms - no camping out here indefinitely - it will soon be time to get back out there and be about the Father's business. Yes, you can minister broken but how much more and better can you serve if you are restored and whole?"

"What a blessing was that stillness as He brought them safely into harbor." Psalms 107:30 NLT

Because God Loves Jun 13, 2006 11:54 am

Because God loves me, He is slow to lose patience with me.

Because God loves me, He takes the circumstances of my life, and uses them in a constructive way for my growth.

Because God loves me, He does not treat me as an object to be possessed or manipulated.

Because God loves me, He has no need to impress me with how great and powerful He is because He is God, nor does He belittle me as His child in oto show me how important He is.

Because God loves me, He is for me. He wants to see me mature and develop in His love.

Because God loves me, He does not send down His wrath on every little mistake I make, of which there are many.

Because God loves me, He rejoices when I experience His power and strength, and stand up under the pressures of life for His name's sake.

Because God loves me, He keeps on trusting me when at times I don't trust myself.

Because God loves me, He never says there is no hope for me rather, He patiently works works with me, loves, me and disciplines me in such a way that it is hard for me to understand the depth of His love and concern for me.

Because God loves me, He never forsakes me even though many of my friends might.

Because God loves me, He stands with me when I've reached the rock bottom of despair, when I see the real me and compare that with His righteousness, holiness, beauty and love. It is a moment like this, that I can really believe that GOd loves me. Yes, the greatest of all gifts is God's perfect love.

Are You Listening?
3-12-04, 2:45 pm

Listen to the sounds
of a bird brightly singing
or the lapping of water
gently against the shore

How tenderly you should listen
to the sound of Jesus' voice
softly whispering
as a breeze
A breeze that blows softly through your hair
Something you might miss if you weren't paying attention

Or like the ducks swimming quietly
across the lake - you might have missed
them if you hadn't looked up suddenly
and caught the motion in the water

Or you might forget to take notice of the sunlight
falling on your face - just because
you're so accustomed to it –
You don't pay attention to the glory of it
as it caresses your skin

He speaks to you in precious moments
such as these
He uses the sounds of nature to speak to you
an old sound - a new sound - a timeless sound - a forever sound
speaking to your heart without words - but with beauty
With the glory of His wonders
He speaks

Are you listening?

For the sounds of His voice
He speaks in many ways

Are you listening?

Mark 4:9: “And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.” John 10:27: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.”

I have a question for you! Are you having trouble hearing from God? I’m sure we have all wondered that at times – I know I have. So we might say “I wonder why God isn’t speaking to me much lately!” Did it ever occur to you it might be your listening skills that might be the problem and not God’s speaking ability? I know – OUCH!! Some people think that if you fast enough – God will speak to you more. Not true. Fasting does NOT change God – it changes you. Fasting does NOT cause God to speak to you more – it causes you to hear more! Listening is an attribute of God and God is our role model.

Listening – hearing – they go hand in hand. Did you ever think that the way we listen to others is also the way we listen to God? This is especially true of those closest to us – like our friends or our children! Listening is a skill and a wonderful gift from God.

Did you know that there are 5 kinds of listening? The first four levels are for personal gain or selfish listening: ignoring, pretending, being selective, and being attentive. Level five is listening for the benefit of others and is called empathetic listening – or listening with understanding without needing to be understood. The greatest human needs next to survival are to be affirmed, understood, accepted, validated and appreciated. Sow these things into the lives of others and you will reap them when you are in need of them.

Nothing reflects God’s love to another as much as true empathetic listening. It’s spirit to spirit communication. We must listen with the eyes and ears of our spirit. Did you realize that the spoken word is only 10% of communication? You must also watch for body language and facial and eye movements, and the tone and volume of the voice.

Again the way we listen to God is depicted by the way we listen to others – so practice listening with your loved ones – and get it right with God! Ask Him – He will help you!

God, what do you mean to be still and know you are God?
My child, what I mean is:
Though the earth be removed,
Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled,
Though the mountains shake with swelling,
Though the wind blow,
Though the storm rage;

IN OTHER WORDS

Though your bills are due,
Though they give you a hard time on your job,
Though your husband won't act right,
Though your wife don't act right,
Though your children are disobedient,
Though there's sickness in your body,
Though your enemies get on your nerves;

Stop your WORRIES!
Stop your COMPLAINING!
Stop your DOUBTING!
Stop your FROWNING!
Cease your fears, and dry up those tears!

For I'm right there to comfort you,
I'm right there to guide you,
I'm right there to hold you up,
I'm right there to heal you,
I'm right there to deliver you.

So cast your cares upon me for I careth for you.
My child this is what I mean by being still and knowing I AM GOD, FOR I AM GOD ALL BY MYSELF!!!!

Some people don't know
how important it is that they exist.
Some people don't know
how good it is just to see them.
Some people don't know
how comforting their smile is.
Some people don't know
how good it feels to be near them.
Some people don't know
how much poorer we would be without them.
Some people don't know
that they are like Heaven's gift to us
They would know if we told them...
Like I'm telling you now!
Thanks for being someone special

Have A Beautiful Day

More on restoration . . . Jun 8, 2006 11:55 am

Psalm 23:3 says "He restoreth my soul"!! How awesome is that? Just take a moment and think about that!! Do you see that the word “rest” is the root word in restore and restoration?? That came as a surprise to me too. Some definitions of ‘rest’ are freedom from activity, to cease or stop work, to be still, freedom from disturbance – hmm-m! And ‘restoration’ means bringing back to a former or original condition, fit for reclaiming. Double hmm-m!! I used to think “restoration” only applied to old cars and furniture but I have come to realize that Father God wants restoration or wholeness in each individual in the Body of Christ as well. And He is well able to accomplish that – all you have to do is submit to it – or enter in - or in other words receive it – as a wonderful gift from Him. The Lord gave me this equation: rest + rest in Him = restoration. I’ve given you the definitions of rest and restoration – so now you might ask what does “rest in Him” mean – the best description of that statement that I have found is simply doing exactly what is in God’s will for you – nothing more – nothing less – only what He tells you to do. Can you see where that would be a place of resting? When you ‘rest in Him’ – you are resting your whole weight on Him and the work He has already done on the cross. Get it???

Hebrews 4:9-11 (NLT) – “So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who enter into God’s rest will find rest from their labors, just as God rested after creating the world. Let us do our best to enter that place of rest. For anyone who disobeys God, as the people of Israel did, will fall.”

Genesis 2:2 (NLT) – “On the seventh day, having finished His task, God rested from all His work.”

Joel 2:25 – “And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten.”

Psalms 46:10 – “Be still and know . . .”

What more can I say – the Word says it all!!

I See Jesus . . . Jun 8, 2006 11:41 am

I saw Jesus last week.
He was wearing blue jeans and an old shirt.
He was up at the church building.
He was alone and working hard.
For just a minute he looked a little like one of our members . . .

But it was Jesus,
I could tell by his smile.

I saw Jesus last Sunday.
He was teaching a Bible Class.
he didn't talk real loud or use long words,
But you could tell he believed what he said.
For just a minute, he looked like my Sunday School teacher . . .

But it was Jesus,
I could tell by his loving voice.

I saw Jesus yesterday.
He was at the hospital visiting a friend who was sick.
They prayed together quietly.
For just a minute he looke like Brother Jones . . .

But it was Jesus,
I could tell by the tears in his eyes.

I saw Jesus this morning.
He was in my kitchen making breakfast and fixing
me a special lunch.
For just a minute he looked like my mom . . .

But it was Jesus,
I could feel the love from his heart.

I saw Jesus everywhere.
Taking food to the sick.
Welcoming others to his home.
Being friendly to a newcomer and for just a minute
I think he's someone I know . . .

But it's always Jesus,
I can tell by the way he serves.

May someone see Jesus in you today.

Don't let pain be your master . . . Jun 7, 2006 10:37 am
420 Views
I’m just going to say it plain. God wants you to be free from the pain of your past. Pain has many names like incest, abuse, rejection, anger, shame, depression, bitterness, disappointment, fear, guilt, blame, betrayal, unforgiveness, self-pity, loneliness, isolation, divorce, addictions, suicidal tendencies, etc. But I’m here to tell you God’s love is BIGGER than any pain you might have.

Did you know that deep pain can be bondage in your life? It’s like you are shackled to your pain. You’re in prison and everything in your life is filtered through your pain? Pain can rule your life. It can rule your emotions – it can rule your reactions and your perceptions – it can rule the way you love and choose relationships – it can completely destroy trust in your life - and it can even rule how you see yourself. You filter everything through your pain, every feeling, every action, every decision. You see through the eyes of your pain and hear through the ears of your pain. The cause of the pain may not be your fault but it is your pain and it’s time to quit blaming everyone and be accountable for your pain. I know you might be thinking “that is so hard Marilyn – you don’t know what I’ve been through.” It doesn’t matter what you’ve been through – you just need to know that you don’t have to stay there. God desires to heal and deliver you from your pain. And that is Good News – a gift from God that you need to receive. Or you can always just stay in your pain and wallow in it the rest of your life. He won’t force healing on you. It’s your choice. Do you choose death or do you choose life?

You might say “how can I do that?” Well, the fact is you can’t – healing is God’s job – not your job. He is well able to heal and deliver you and it’s His hearts desire to do exactly that in your life. The only thing you have to do is take a step out of your comfort zone of pain and submit that pain to the Lord. Again you might say “how do I do that”? Just humbly cooperate with Him – you know - surrender. If you don’t have a clue on how to surrender to God simply ask Him to teach you. He will. Pain was never meant for you to carry – Jesus Himself carried pain to the cross – you don’t have to carry it.

It’s a difficult journey – this journey out of pain but the Lord promises that He will never leave you or forsake you. Don’t let pain be your master – let Jesus be your Master.

Be Still and Know . . . Jun 7, 2006 8:16 am

I play this song over and over and over lately - it really comforts me - maybe it will comfort you too - it's by Steven Curtis Chapman:

Be still and know that He is God
Be still and know that He is Holy
Be still oh restless soul of mine
Bow before the prince of Peace
Let the noise and clamor cease

Be still and and know that He is God
Be still and know that He is faithful
Consider all that He has done
Stand in awe and be amazed
And know that He will never change
Be still

Be still and know that He is God
Be still and know that He is God
Be still and know that He is God
Be still
Be speechless

Be still and know that He is God
Be still and know He is our Father
Come rest your head upon His breast
Listen to the rhythm of
His unfailing heart of love
Beating for His little ones
Calling each of us to come
Be still
Be still

Restoration . . . Jun 6, 2006 10:47 am

Restoration is stated throughout the Bible a lot - 66 times to be exact in the KJV - to say nothing of other similar words like: return, revive, recover, renew, repair, heal, restitution, and refresh. I just get the feeling that God is VERY serious about restoration. And here are some scriptures to back that up: Zephaniah 3:20(NIV) "I will give you honor and praise among the people when I RESTORE your fortunes before your very eyes" and Psalms 23:3 "He RESTORETH my soul", and Jeremiah 30:17 "For I will RESTORE health unto thee, and heal thy wounds" and my personal favorite is from Joel 2:25 "And I will RESTORE to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm".

Most of us - when we think of restoration we think about an old car or a piece of antique furniture because we know that restoration is bringing something back to its original condition. But I believe that the Lord wants to return each of His children back to their original condition - a return of them to His original plan before the enemy got a hold of their lives in his attempt to "kill, steal, and destroy". He wants complete restoration for us - every facet of every pain renewed and used for the Glory of God. Total restoration - emotional - physical - spiritual - financial, etc. Nothing left undone. Of course, like everything God does - it requires an act on your part - submission (humble cooperation) to the Lord - a small step in His direction on your part - but don't be afraid of it - you will be choosing life and leaving behind death.
