Safe Harbor

"Safe Harbor" - it is a nautical term by the way and I just happen to be an ex-Navy girl - "is a place to come to when you've been damaged or beaten by the storms of life - it's a place of rest, refuge, and restoration - for a time - to receive healing or repair damages, and rest - in the Father's arms - no camping out here indefinitely - it will soon be time to get back out there and be about the Father's business. Yes, you can minister broken but how much more and better can you serve if you are restored and whole?"

"What a blessing was that stillness as He brought them safely into harbor." Psalms 107:30 NLT

Twinkies and root beer ... Jan 8, 2009 8:04 am

Twinkies and Root Beer

A little boy wanted to meet God. He knew it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with Twinkies and a six-pack of Root Beer and he started his journey.

When he had gone about three blocks, he met an elderly man. The man was sitting in the park just feeding some pigeons.

The boy sat down next to him and opened his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the man looked hungry, so he offered him a Twinkie.

The man gratefully accepted it and smiled at boy. His smile was so pleasant that the boy wanted to see it again, so he offered him a root beer.

Again, the man smiled at him. The boy was delighted! They sat there all afternoon eating and smiling, but they never said a word.

As it grew dark, the boy realized how tired he was and he got up to leave, but before he had gone more than a few steps, he turned around, ran back to the man, and gave him a hug. The man gave him his biggest smile ever.

When the boy opened the door to his own house a short time later, his mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. She asked him, "What did you do today that made you so happy?

"He replied, "I had lunch with God." But before his mother could respond, he added, "You know what? God's got the most beautiful smile I've ever seen!"

Meanwhile, the elderly man, also radiant with joy, returned to his home. His son was stunned by the look of peace on his face and he asked," Dad, what did you do today that made you so happy?"

He replied, "I ate Twinkies in the park with God." However, before his son responded, he added," You know, he's much younger than I expected."

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around. People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Embrace all equally!

Send this to people who have touched your life in a special way. Let them know how important they are. Have lunch with God!

And .......Thanks for touching my life!

Becoming new ... Jan 5, 2009 7:11 am

"I am a new creature in Christ:
old things have passed away;
behold all things are become new."

2 Cor 5:17 (Marilyn's first person translation)

Become - to grow to be, to come to be (Doubleday Dictionary)

New - changed in essence, beginning afresh, different from that hereforto known (Doubleday Dictionary)

You know the cool thing about this verse is it's a living verse and continues to happen as life happens to us. I didn't suddenly become a new creature in one second and then always remain exactly the same after that. Becoming a new creature is a process - a continuous journey - more newness everyday - as I walk with Him - as I abide in Him - it's a continuation.

Our salvation continues to evolve with time. The Greek word "sozo" means salvation and it includes not only salvation but healing and safety and deliverance as well. It's a package deal and it's a continual process as you lend yourself to the Holy Spirit and keep your heart open and willing and pliable to His possibilities.

How open is your heart and life for His continuing changing of you into a new creature? It's your choice!! Do you choose life or do you choose death?

Blessings to all!!

"And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us,
we become more and more like Him
and reflect His glory even more."

2 Cor 3:18 (NLT)

As we allow the Holy Spirit to work in us - we become more like the Lord. A very simple principle. Submission is not a hard thing - it's simply humbly cooperating with the Lord. No more - no less. Get yourself out of the way so He can work in you!! We must decrease so He can increase. No room for pride and stubborness and control. And if it seems hard for you - simply ask Him to help you get to that place - and then be willing to cooperate with Him.

Blessings everyone!!

Abiding ... Dec 31, 2008 8:28 am
Mood: abiding, 149 Views
Abide - to continue, last or endure, to continue in place, stay, dwell, reside, to look for, wait for. (Doubleday Dictionary)

The word 'abide' is written over 120 times in the KJV of the Bible - hmmmmm - that makes me think God is serious about this abiding stuff!!

"In" defined means obtained or included within, amidst, surrounded by, occupied or concerned with, made out of, as a part of or function of, belonging to, affected by, for the purpose of, by reason or a result of. (Doubleday Dictionary)

Take a look at what the Word says:

John 15
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.

3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.

4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

Wow - do you get the idea that it's important to 'abide' in Him - and that as you 'abide' in Him - He 'abides' in you - and stuff happens in that 'abiding' - in that relationship!! Just in this short paragraph it tells you that abiding causes you to bear much fruit - love - and joy - those are major things in my book.

Now you may ask how do I come to abide in Him - it's much simpler than you might think - first you ask Him to come and 'abide' in your heart - and then be willing to become that new creature He talks about in His Word - submission or willingness to cooperate with Him is huge - He won't force you!! You put on the mind of Christ by reading or hearing His Word and applying it to your life. And pray by talking to Him! He's your friend - your best friend afterall - there is nothing that you can say to Him that He doesn't already know about you - but He needs to hear the words.

He's a very loving and understanding God - give up control to Him and He will guide you!! He has good plans for you!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Judas Asparagus

Through the eyes of a child. Children's Bible in a Nutshell.

In the beginning, which occurred near the start, there was nothing but God, darkness, and some gas.
The Bible says, 'The Lord thy God is one, but I think He must be a lot older than that. Anyway, God said, 'Give me a light!' and someone did. Then God made the world.

He split the Adam and made Eve. Adam and Eve were naked, but they weren't embarrassed because mirrors hadn't been invented yet. Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating one bad apple, so they were driven from the Garden of Eden.? Not sure what they were driven in though, because they didn't have cars.

Adam and Eve had a son, Cain, who hated his brother as long as he was Abel. Pretty soon all of the early people died off, except for Methuselah, who lived to be like a million or something.

One of the next important people was Noah, who was a good guy, but one of his kids was kind of a Ham.
Noah built a large boat and put his family and some animals on it. He asked some other people to join him, but they said they would have to take a rain check.

After Noah came Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Jacob was more famous than His brother, Esau, because Esau sold Jacob his birthmark in exchange for some pot roast. Jacob had a son named Joseph who wore a really loud sports coat.

Another important Bible guy is Moses, whose real name was Charlton Heston. Moses led the Israel Lights out of Egypt and away from the evil Pharaoh after God sent ten plagues on Pharaoh's people.

These plagues included frogs, mice, lice, bowels, and no cable. God fed the Israel Lights every day with manicotti. Then he gave them His Top Ten Commandments. These include don't lie, cheat, smoke, dance, or covet your neighbor's stuff. Oh, yeah, I just thought of one more: humor thy father and thy mother.

One of Moses' best helpers was Joshua who was the first Bible guy to use spies. Joshua fought the battle of Geritol and the fence fell over on the town.

After Joshua came David. He got to be king by killing a giant with a slingshot. He had a son named Solomon who had about 300 wives and 500 porcupines.

My teacher says he was wise, but that doesn't sound very wise to me.
After Solomon there were a bunch of major league prophets. One of these was Jonah, who was swallowed by a big whale and then barfed upon the shore.

There were also some minor league prophets, but I guess we don't have to worry about them.
After the Old Testament came the New Testament.
Jesus is the star of The New Testament. He was born in Bethlehem in a barn. (I wish I had been born in a barn, too, because my mom is always saying to me, 'Close the door! Were you born in a barn?' It would be nice to say, 'As a matter of fact, I was.')

During His life, Jesus had many arguments with sinners like the Pharisees and the Democrats. Jesus also had twelve opossums. The worst one was Judas Asparagus. Judas was so evil that they named a terrible vegetable after him.

Jesus was a great man. He healed many leopards and even preached to some Germans on the Mount. But the Democrats and all those guys put Jesus on trial before Pontius the Pilot. Pilot didn't stick up for Jesus. He just washed his hands instead.

Any ways, Jesus died for our sins, then came back to life again. He went up to Heaven but will be back at the end of the Aluminum. His return is foretold in the book of Revolution.

Angels - explained by children ... Dec 29, 2008 6:48 pm

Angels Explained By Children:

I only know the names of two angels, Hark and Harold.
-Gregory, 5

Everybody's got it all wrong. Angels don't wear halos anymore. I forget why, but scientists are working on it

-Olive, 9

It's not easy to become an angel! First, you die. Then you go to Heaven, and then there's still the flight training to go through. And then you got to agree to wear those angel clothes.

-Matthew, 9

Angels work for God and watch over kids when God has to go do something else.

-Mitchell, 7

My guardian angel helps me with math, but he's not much good for science.

-Henry, 8

Angels don't eat, but they drink milk from Holy Cows!!!

-Jack, 6

Angels talk all the way while they're flying you up to heaven. The main subject is where you went wrong before you got dead.

-Daniel, 9

When an angel gets mad, he takes a deep breath and counts to ten. And when he lets out his breath, somewhere there's a tornado.

-Reagan, 10

Angels have a lot to do and they keep very busy. If you lose a tooth, an angel comes in through your window and leaves money under your pillow. Then when it gets cold, angels go south for the winter.

-Sara, 6

Angels live in cloud houses made by God and his son, who's a very good carpenter.

-Jared, 8

All angels are girls because they gotta wear dresses and boys didn't go for it.

-Antonio, 9

My angel is my grandma who died last year. She got a big head start on helping me while she was still down here on earth.

- Barbara , 9

Some of the angels are in charge of helping heal sick animals and pets. And if they don't make the animals get better, they help the child get over it.

-Vicki, 8

What I don't get about angels is why, when someone is in love, they shoot arrows at them.

-Sarah, 7

Psalm 100 (NLT) says: "Shout with joy to the Lord, O earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before Him, singing with joy. Acknowledge that the Lord is God! He made us, and we are His. We are His people, the sheep of His pasture. Enter His gates with thanksgiving: go into His courts with praise. Give thanks to Him and bless His Name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and His faithfulness continues to each generation." Wow - isn't that awesome!! Especially that last sentence about his unfailing love continuing forever and His faithfulness continuing to each generation - whew - that's eternity - isn't it? The Doubleday Dictionary says eternity is timeless and unchangeable and infinite in duration. I don't know about you - but I sure am glad I'm a child of God and can participate wholeheartedly in that promise!!

Did you know that praise is a spiritual weapon against the enemy? Did you know the devil gets mad when he hears you praising God - especially when you are in the midst of trial or a major storm in your life? The Bible says "The weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but MIGHTY through God to the pulling down of strongholds". (2 Corinthians 10:4) So when you praise Him right in the heat of battle - you are crushing every stronghold that satan has on you. Doesn't matter how intense the circumstances are - don't look at the circumstances - focus on the Lord and just praise Him with every fiber of your being. Crush ole' slewfoots head with praise - he won't know what hit him!! Hallelujah!!
