Rebirth Of The Phoenix

The phoenix was supposedly a bird that, when it died, rose again from it's ashes, or a new phoenix was born from the ashes. This was used to symbolize Christ and the resurrection in early Christian art.

"The bird was also said to regenerate when hurt or wounded by a foe, thus being almost immortal and invincible — a symbol of fire and divinity." Wikipedia This makes me think of the regeneration that God does in our lives, the healing of the hurts and wounds we suffer from the enemy of our souls. It also makes me think of the fact that through Him we have the promise of eternal life. That is not the same thing a immortality as immortality is of the flesh, not the spirit. But it does mean that we will live forever, with Him!

It also speaks to me of the verse Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Then too, it was supposedly a bird with gold and red plumes which goes right along with my current handle of redbird.

Disclaimer:
I want first of all to let everyone know that what I am about to reveal is not because I am living in the past or because I am holding on to it. I am not still wearing my grave clothes, so to speak.

A testimony is simply speaking the truth of what God has done in one's life, personal experience of His love, grace, power, glory. For a biblical example of a testimony please see Acts 26:1-23

I married my first husband in August of 1975 while I was pregnant with another man’s child. I didn’t even know for sure who the father of the child was, though I had an idea. Within a week of getting married my husband and I left for New England, going to his parents home, where I would meet them for the first time, and where he would leave me until he could make arrangements for me to join him in Japan in October.

Mike was on leave and able to stay with me at his parents for about 3 and ½ weeks before leaving for Japan. During this time his family gave us a wedding reception at one of his aunt’s homes. All of these people were strangers to me and when I turned and found Mike gone and couldn’t find him for some time, I became quite anxious. Eventually I discovered him and quite a few of our other male guests in the house, watching football.

Also, before he left for Japan I discovered that Mike had lied to his parents and family about the paternity of the child I was carrying, either outright telling them that the baby was his or allowing them to believe it was. I insisted that he at least correct this with his parents and siblings before he left for Japan as I would not live with this lie over my head.

My mother and father-in-law are wonderful people and have always respected the fact that I insisted on being honest with them. They have always treated my son as their own and defended him against those who would disown him since Mike and I have divorced, including Mike himself.

They are also very giving people and while Mike was there they took us shopping for whatever we might need. They would always ask Mike what they thought I could use and Mike would tell them that I was all set, but that he needed this, that or something else. Not wanting to cause a problem, I would keep my mouth shut.

Little did I know that these things would be an on-going growing problem in our marriage. That sports would be more important to my husband than me, our children or anything else in his life. That lying to people about circumstances and situations would be his modus operandi and that selfishness on his part would have him taking care of his needs and wants before the needs of our children as well as my own, much less our wants. Nor did I know that the time would come when he would tell me that I had no right to say a word about the way he ran the house since I owed him for marrying me and making my baby legitimate.

Thank You, Lord! Nov 20, 2006 7:06 pm

Dear Lord,

I just want to tell you how very grateful I am today for all the many blessings you have given me. Thank you, that I am alive and well, today. Thank you for preserving my life for your purposes, even though I don't know what those purposes are. They say I wasn't supposed to ever leave the hospital because of a heart defect at birth, but I did, and here I am 49 years later. And I think of all the babies that don't even make it to birth, those who don't ever make it home from the hospital, those who never make it to school, those who never make it to adulthood. And I thank you, Lord, that you have chosen me, for some reason.

Thank you, Father, that I am able to think clearly, that my mind functions properly, most of the time. Despite the fact that I have abused it with alchohol and drugs. Despite the fact that I have attempted to take my life on several occassions, you have preserved my mind, for your purposes. I think of the many who are born with disabilities in this area, and though I know that you also have a purpose for them, I thank you that you have chosen to give me the ability to learn and grow in wisdom and in knowledge.

Thank you, also for a body that still functions really well. Yes, I do have aches and pains and I have had to have some reconstruction work done. But I can still walk and run most of the time. I still have all my limbs and digits. I think of those who were born without these parts or these abilities and those who have lost them somewhere along the way, and I am so grateful that you have blessed me the way that you have.

Thank you, for a roof over my head, a bed to sleep in, clothes to wear, food to eat, clean water to drink and to keep myself, my home, my clothes clean. I think of the masses around the world who do not have one or more of these necessities today and I feel so priveledged to know that you have always provided me with these things.

Thank you so very, very much for allowing me to be born an American. For the priveledge of being one of a small percentage of the world population who can come to you openly and worship you. For the gift of being able to own and read your Holy word without fear of retribution from the government. I think of your children, my brothers and sisters around the world, who suffer trials, tribulations, torture and death, all because of their love for you and I am grateful that you have kept me free from these sufferings. That I have always been able to seek your face, your guidance, your wisdom without fear of repercussions.

But most of all, thank you for loving me. Thank you for your patience with me. For your continued mercy and grace. For never forsaking me, even when I have turned away from you. For always greeting me with open arms whenever I have come running home to you.

May I always have a heart that is filled with gratitude for all my blessings, Lord. May I always, each and every minute of each and every day, realize and acknowledge how very fortunate I am, to count every blessing and know that there are none of them small. May I never take any of them for granted but always be aware that I am partaking of something that many are doing without. And may I always acknowledge, that without you, none of them would have any value whatsoever. Help me to always remember that you give me everything I have and you are my reason for being.

In the name of my precious saviour, Jesus, I pray these things. Amen.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY GRANDSON!!!! Nov 19, 2006 1:24 pm
Mood: 90, 262 Views
Ten years ago today I became a grandmother for the very first time! My daughter, after having lost her first child in a miscarriage, gave birth to my oldest grandson at 6:07 P.M. on November 19th 1996.

This blonde haired, blue eyed darling slept the first few nights of his life in his grandmother's arms. I held him there, in a chair in his mom's hospital room. I wanted to know that he was safe and secure.

He is a very intelligent young man and I'm not just saying that because he is my grandson. He could count to 16 and recognized those numbers as well as all his alphabet, upper and lower case by the time he was 3 years old. He also knew a lot of his shapes by then: circle, square, rectangle, heart, diamond, octagon, pentagon. He could also name a dozen or more dinosaurs.

Last year he took the state tests for children exiting 3rd grade and made a perfect score on one of them and a 99 on the other. To the amazement of most of his teachers and the rest of the faculty, as he has had difficulty with getting his work completed and with being a restless child in class. I believe they have finally realized that he is bored stiff and needs to be challenged more. Needless to say, I am very proud of him.

Dedicated to My Dear Brother, Wormdust Nov 17, 2006 12:53 pm

I got this in an e-mail from Tommy (wormdust) and wanted to share it with all of you. It is just so beautiful.

Have A Shay Day!!!

What would you do? ....you make the choice. Don't look for a punch line, there isn't one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same choice?

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning-disabled children, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question: "When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does is done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do. Where is the natural order of things in my son?"

The audience was stilled by the query.

The father continued. "I believe that when a child like Shay, physically and mentally handicapped comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child."

Then he told the following story:

Shay and his father had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, "Do you think they'll let me play?" Shay's father knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but the father also understood that if his son were allowed to play, it would give him a much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.

Shay's father approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, "We're losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning."

Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt. His Father watched with a small tear in his eye and warmth in his heart. The boys saw the father's joy at his son being accepted. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team scored a few runs but was still behind by three. In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as his father waved to him from the stands. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again. Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.

At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game? Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.

However, as Shay stepped up to the plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team had put winning aside for this moment in Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay could at least make contact. The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed. The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay. As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher.

The game would now be over. The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman. Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game.

Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's head, out of reach of all his team mates. Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, "Shay, run to first! Run to first!" Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base. He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.

Everyone yelled, "Run to second, run to second!" Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base. By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball ... the smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team. He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third-baseman's head. Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home.

All were screaming, "Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay"

Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, "Run to third! Shay, run to third!"

As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, "Shay, run home! Run home!" Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team.

"That day", said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, "the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world".

Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making his father so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!

AND NOW A LITTLE FOOTNOTE TO THIS STORY:

The crude, vulgar, and often obscene pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion about decency is too often suppressed in our schools, workplaces and especially here on the Internet.

The person who sent you this believes that we all can make a difference. We all have thousands of opportunities every single day to help realize the "natural order of things." So many seemingly trivial interactions between two people present us with a choice: Do we pass along a little spark of love and humanity or do we pass up those opportunities and leave the world a little bit colder in the process?

A wise man once said every society is judged by how it treats it's least fortunate amongst them.

May your every day, be a Shay Day.

Tommy
