Rebirth Of The Phoenix

The phoenix was supposedly a bird that, when it died, rose again from it's ashes, or a new phoenix was born from the ashes. This was used to symbolize Christ and the resurrection in early Christian art.

"The bird was also said to regenerate when hurt or wounded by a foe, thus being almost immortal and invincible — a symbol of fire and divinity." Wikipedia This makes me think of the regeneration that God does in our lives, the healing of the hurts and wounds we suffer from the enemy of our souls. It also makes me think of the fact that through Him we have the promise of eternal life. That is not the same thing a immortality as immortality is of the flesh, not the spirit. But it does mean that we will live forever, with Him!

It also speaks to me of the verse Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Then too, it was supposedly a bird with gold and red plumes which goes right along with my current handle of redbird.

To Kill An American Jul 29, 2006 11:25 am

Don't Know if you have seen this before or not but it bears repeating.

Written by an Australian Dentist
To Kill an American

You probably missed it in the rush of news last week, but here was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a
newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.

So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is . So they would know when they
found one. (Good one, mate!!!!)

"An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian,
Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan.

An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.

An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim. In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanistan. The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.

An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs
claiming to speak for the government and for God.

An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world. The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration
of Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.

An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.

When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back
their country!

As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan . Americans welcome the best of everything...the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best services. But they also welcome the least.

The national symbol of America , The Statue of Liberty, welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America .

Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the World Trade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and
abetted the terrorists.

So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty
tyrants in the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself.

Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

"Approval Addiction" Jul 29, 2006 6:12 am

I read this book by Joyce Meyer earlier this year and woke this morning with some thoughts that I wanted to share with you all.

I have lived my entire life trying to gain the approval of one of my parents. I have done everything I knew to do to gain this parents love and acceptance, all to no avail.

The past few years I have learned so very much concerning this type of problem in peoples lives.
It has been a very hard lesson and one I am still learning on a day to day basis.

Our heavenly Father is the ultimate parent. He loves each and every one of us so very much and accepts us just as we are. He does not expect us to change before He takes us lovingly into His arms but instead promises to help us to make any necessary changes after we have come to Him. He is so very proud of us for each and every achievment and accomplishment that we make no matter how small. He is constantly encouraging us to move forward and never, ever throws our past into our face, for as we ask forgiveness for our faults and failures He totally forgets them, never to remember them again. When we suffer loss and pain because of our wrong choices He is there to fill the void and offer comfort instead of saying "I told you so". He never tells us that we are losers, failures, a dissappointment or disinherits us but instead He lovingly edifies us, reminds us that we are a royal priesthood and the Bride of His precious Son, and always welcomes us home whenever we have strayed.

There are so many other things that could be said here. If you have dealt with this sort of problem in your past, please let me know so that we may support one another. Our loving Father has provided us with one another so that we can bear one another's burdens. Please know that my prayers are with you even if you do not share your information here, for our Father knows who you are.

I'm Back Jul 29, 2006 1:06 am

Hi, everyone, I have had the most wonderful week this week. My granddaughter and her mom got here Monday afternoon and just left yesterday morning.

My granddaughter has grown so much. What a joy she is and so smart and I promise that it isn't just my being prejudiced.

Wednesday the three of us went to visit with my daughter and her family so I was with three of my grandbabies that day. We arrived there at 10:30 am and ended up not leaving until 1:30 the next morning. What a joyous time of fellowship it was for us all.

I managed to get my picture CD's from my daughter while I was there so that I could put up a more recent photo here on the site. This new one was taken on July 4th, 2005. Though I am no longer blonde and my hair is a lot shorter now, I do feel a lot more honest in that I don't have a 10 year old picture up as my main picture any longer.

Melissa, the little one's mom, and I had so much to share with one another. She has just completed her classwork on her Master's degree as a music theripist. She begins her internship in October.

God really blessed in that He opened a door for her to be able to do her internship in Houston. She and Kyndall will be living with her mom just west of Houston and my son, the baby's dad, lives just north of Houston. Since music therapy is still fairly new internships are few and far between. She was just hoping to get in the state of Texas, as was my son. The thought of having Kyndall be so far away from her dad and brothers and unable to visit with them, as she has grown accustomed to doing, was really worrying both of them.

Though it has all truly been a joy and a blessing, I missed being able to get online and fellowship with all of you and I am so very, very glad to be back.

My Granddaughter Is Coming!!!! Jul 23, 2006 3:06 am

I am so excited!!! My granddaughter and her mother are coming up for a visit on Monday and I can hardly wait. I haven't seen them in about a year and a half.

This is my youngest grandchild. She turned 5 last month. I didn't even know that she existed until she was almost 2 years old. It's a very long story so I won't bore you all with it. But she still calls me her "new" grandma because she had been with her mother's mother for those 2 years before meeting me. Aren't children wonderful?

I may not be all that old and I may not be a man but I have some very beautiful crowns nonetheless.

Pr 17:6 Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers.

Earnest? Jul 20, 2006 12:44 pm

Eph 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Eph 1:14 Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

What is earnest? Isn't it a small portion of the whole? A promise of what is to come? A sample? A taste?

So the Holy Spirit, when we receive Him is an earnest of our inheritance. Do you remember when you received the Holy Spirit?

What joy filled me when I was filled with the Holy Spirit! If that was only a taste, a sample of the joy yet to come, my mind cannot encompass what it will be like.

The Spirit has lead me to such truths, I have gained so much knowledge by His presence in my life. If all this is but a portion I am struck speechless by all that I will know when I get home.

The Spirit has been my companion through so much heartache, through trials and tribulations. He has been ever present to comfort and console me. If this is just a small part of what I will know in heaven how glorious, how marvelous, how magnificent it will be.

We do not yet have the vocabulary to describe what is awaiting us. We know only in part. We are like small children only starting school, just learning our ABC's with no idea of how to communicate what lies ahead.

How beautiful it is to ponder! I long for home. Don't you?

Mother Jul 20, 2006 11:05 am
Mood: 111, 242 Views
Several months ago I received an e-mail from my daughter that asked that I describe her in one word. That was impossible for me to do as she has so very many talents but I did limit myself to two or three. The e-mail said to send to friends and relatives, asking them to describe me in one word, which I did. I only received one back, from my son, and the word was "mother".

Because of my experience with my own mother, that word has very negative connotations for me. I could not help but wonder what it meant to my son. I know that I was not the best mother I could have been. I know that I failed my children in many ways. My heart was breaking as I thought of what my son could be thinking when he thought of me as his mother.

I wrote him back and asked him what the word mother meant to him. I have many times told my children that I was sorry and asked for their forgiveness, I haven't been able to forgive myself, however, for failing them. I want to share his response with you. I have framed it and read it often. I share it in the hopes that other parents may realize that it is okay to admit your faults to your children, in fact it is essential.

Mother?

It means a great many things . . .
Mother is the person that gave me life . . .
The person that made me who I am . . .
The person that cares when nobody else does . . .
The person that worries when nobody else does . .
The person that remembers me when I was little and is proud of me now that I am grown . . .
The person that dedicated their life to try and give me everything I needed, if not everything I wanted . . .
And struggled to provide me with a better life than she had . . .
The person that was there through good times and bad times; thick and thin, regardless of my mistakes, or my occasional desire that she would just go away. . .
Mother is the person that always has and always will love me more than any other . . .
Does that answer your question???

I Love You,
Matt

Accent On The Positive Jul 18, 2006 2:46 pm

Php 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Sometimes it is so easy to let ourselves get into the habit of looking at all that is going wrong in our lives. We get focused on the things that we cannot do, cannot have, cannot be.

I know for myself I all too often get wound up in why I am disabled, unable to make more money, have a better home, a better vehicle, a better life. I try to explain to the Lord how much more I would be able to do for others if I had all this "more". And He quietly explains to me that His grace is sufficient for me. That if I had the things I think I need I would no longer have the time that I now spend with Him, that I would no longer be around when I am needed by homebound people who often call on me to run errands for them, my vehicle would no longer be available to my friends and neighbors for their use as it is now.

So I am learning more and more that I must keep my mind on the positive things. Think on the good things that I can accomplish from where I am right now and let the Lord deal with the rest. No matter where we are, no matter what our situation, God can and will use us, if we will only let Him.

Isa 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

Hi, my name is Bandit. I am an Australian Shepherd and my mom told me that there are a lot of other animals that get on their people's computers and write to each other here so I thought I would give it a try.

She told me about Jerry and Doc and I wanted to be sure and say hello to the two of you. Jerry, she told my that you had a very important job as a Research Assistant Technician or something like that. I just work at being a good companion to my mom. Making sure to be here and give her attention when she gets lonely.

Doc, my mom tells me that you are quite intelligent, giving advice to people and animals too. That is quite impressive.

My mom told me that there is some other dogs out there as well. Hello Spike and Buffy. Mom says that Buffy has been ill. I hope that you are doing lots better.

There are also some other kitty's as well. Hello to you Sweet Pea, Grey Kitty, Whisper and Whisper. Wow, two Whisper's.

There is even a horse named Clyde, a bunny named Buggs, and a snake named Asp. Hello to all of you also.

And hello to Teddy Bear, Sugar Scooter, and Jinx. My mom doesn't know what you are but that's okay you are still a pet like me so we can be friends.

Hello to all of your people too. They must all be very special people because they love us and give us a place in their homes and lives.

The picture that I am going to put here is one that was taken of me when I was just a pup. My mom doesn't have any of the more recent ones on the computer yet.

Ya'll be sure and write back to me. I think that we can have loads of fun and my mom won't mind at all. She loves all kinds of animals. She has had tons of them. She wants a lot more and would have them if she could. We already have a pair of dove friends that live here with us named Dovie and Gus and a Beta fish and a algae eating fish that don't have names. Maybe you guys can help my mom and me think of some names for those guys.

Ro 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

Ps 56:9 When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.

Sometimes trouble comes and I wonder why I even bother to try. Seems like nothing ever turns out right and I can't even get wrong, right. Can't even succeed at being a failure. Have you ever felt this way?

Mike Warnke, the Christian comedian once described times like this as being a time when you can't pray those "King James Prayers" but instead you hit your knees in the hallway and slide up to the bed and cry out to God saying:

"GOD, WHAT ARE YOU DOING WRONG?"

and He answers:

"Not me-eth, you-eth!"

And usually that is exactly right. I have, somewhere along the way lost sight of God and have been trying to do things in my own strength.

Because God is for us, He is for me, He is on my side, He wants me to do well, but He wants me to do it in His strength, not mine. He wants me to give Him the honor and glory, not myself. He has a plan for me but I have to stay within His plan and not wander off into my own paths in order for things to work according to His will.

Anger Jul 13, 2006 8:16 am

Jon 4:9 And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said,
I do well to be angry, even unto death.

1Sa 20:34 So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no meat the second day of the month: for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame.

2Sa 12:5 And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:

Is anger a sin? Or are there cases of anger that are not sinful?

I believe that there are times when our anger is not sinful. When we become angry at the sin in this world, when we become angry at the rampant immorality that is inundating our children, our families at every turn then we are not sinning. To not be angry, to remain complacent would be sinful.

We must, as Jonathan did when his father Saul was wrongly seeking Davids death, get angry at the sin that we see and refuse to be a part of it. We must stand up and fight it.

We are also right to get angry with sin in our own lives. Although David did not realize at the moment that he spoke of himself when he became so angry, he quickly repented when he was made aware that he was the man who had done the wrong. We must be willing to see the sin in our lives and become angry at our weakness, angry enough to conquer it.

But we must also beware that we keep tight rein on our anger, to control it that it not become a raging fire that ends up burning us or others. Like so many other things in life, anger controlled and for the right purpose can be a good and helpful thing but uncontrolled can be a destructful force.

Eph 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
