How I Quit Smoking Cigarettes Apr 20, 2006 6:39 pm
Mood: thankful, 1391 Views

By special request from Rod (yendor2). I hope it blesses someone!

May I share my testimony with you about how the Lord delivered me from smoking?

I really liked to smoke cigarettes. I don't drink coffee, do drugs, rarely drink alcohol, so I guess I really wanted to hold onto this one vice. I felt the Lord asking me to give them up. Smoking cigarettes will not stop you from getting to heaven or even make you a second class Christian. Please understand that! But as for me...the Lord wanted me personally to quit. I still enjoyed it so much, though.

So, this is what the Lord led me to do -

He taught me to speak the truth instead of hiding from it! I told Him that I liked to smoke and that I really didn't want to quit. But I also told Him that I love Him more, and if He wanted me to quit I would. I told Him that He would have to give me the desire to quit, though, and give me the ability to do it, because I just didn't have either within myself.

You know what? Our God is so very faithful. He supplies all of our need according to His riches in Christ Jesus. He gave me the desire to quit. He completely changed my thinking about smoking. Then one day I woke up and He said, "Lay them down." That was the last time I smoked! I have friends who smoke but I don't! He is such a wonderful God.

This principle works in every area of our lives that God puts His finger on to change us. When He shows us an area He wants to change in us, all we have to do is acknowledge that it is there and that it needs to go, then give Him permission to take it away. He will do all the rest!

So, my advice to you, if you will accept it, is to rest in Him. Tell Him the truth about how you are feeling and give Him permission to change you. He will! Stop trying to do this on your own. It is His job. Your job is to just stay close to Him, no matter what weaknesses you see in yourself, and let Him change your from glory to glory.

I've met a man! I've met a man! Apr 20, 2006 7:46 am
Mood: ecstatic, 3149 Views

I have met a wonderful man here at Big Church! He is everything on the list that God gave me that I shared with you in my previous post, Decide What You Want in a Spouse Before You Start!!!!!!!!!!. He is all of that, plus so much more! I can't begin to decribe how wonderful I think this man is.

I won't tell you who he is, because I did not ask his permission to do so. I just got so excited this morning that I couldn't wait to share the awesome news with all of my friends here at Big Church! I have had a smile on my face for days! If he wants to state his identity, I would be honored, but I will not force him to!

We have lain our relationship at the Lord's feet. We each only wants the Lord's best for us. It looks very encouraging so far, though!

Please send up a prayer for us, okay? Don't pray that we will be the ones for each other. Just pray that the Lord will reveal to us quickly whether or not we should be together. I don't want to spend a long time on a relationship that is not going to end in marriage. I want to know quickly so that my heart doesn't get too involved.

My heart is toward this man. I see absolutely no red flags waving in front of my eyes and neither does he, but we still need to get to know each other better and get the Lord's seal of approval. We will not be together unless we are both absolutely sure we have God's complete blessing here.

Also, please pray about a related matter. I have an opportunity to meet this most awesome man next weekend, but there are some hurdles. I do not have a car right now, he lives half way across the country and neither of has the money to make this happen.

A friend of mine who lives here has a son who is coming home from Iraq on R & R next weekend. He will have to go back for another 6-month tour. She wanted me to go with her to help her drive so that she can see him. Well, I wasn't enthusiastic about going before, but I am much more excited about it now since her son lives only 65 miles away from this man! I could meet him and visit with him while she spends a couple of days with her son. Her vehicle may not make it that far and she doesn't have the money to go either, though.

So, the hurdles are these to us being able to go - that the Lord would supply a dependable vehicle and that He would supply the funds needed to go. Please pray that He will supply both if He wants us to go.

Thank you all so much! You are the greatest! I will keep you posted!

How High Is Your Trash Heap of Rejects? Apr 17, 2006 7:30 pm

I have met so many men during the last year since I have started to think about getting married again. Since then, most of them have ended up on the trash heap for one reason or another! Many of them have remained friends and a couple are even on my "possibilities list" still, though.

Just for fun, can you tell me how many men or women you have discarded as potential mates for you since you have started looking? How many have you tossed to the trash heap? This is only people that you have talked to by email, IM, phone or in person, not just people whose profile you have checked out. You need to actually have had some kind of social interaction with them.

My answer would probably be 61 - 80. You know the saying, you have to be willing to kiss alot of toads...LOL!

Thanks!

The name of your blog has Buddhist terms in it. This post is Buddhist in nature. In my experience if it looks like a duck, smells like an duck and acts like a duck, then it is a duck. Sir, you are a Buddhist. So, my question to you is this - why are you on a Christian dating website? Are you here to try to convert us to your religion? It will not work. There are many other dating websites you can join. I suggest you go to one where you would be more comfortable.

Lord, I ask that you touch this person's heart. Lord, show him the truth about Your Son, Jesus Christ. Show him that Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life and that no man comes to the Father except through Him. Also, show Him that there is no other name under heaven by which a man can be saved, except the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Lord, if this man will refuse to be one of Your children, I ask that you remove Him from this website so that he may not be able to spread his false doctrines here, in the matchless name of Christ, the name that is above every other name, not only in this age, but also in the one to come. Amen!

Warning to other Members of Big Church - Kama Sutra to Lotus Sutra Apr 17, 2006 2:05 pm
Mood: aggravated, 763 Views
There is a member who just wrote his first blog post here today. I am writing this to warn you that the title to his blog is based upon Buddist terms. The teaching in his first post is very Buddist in nature, also.

This man is not practicing Christianity! Please, do not be fooled by him into believing that he is!

Thanks for reading this. Please pass this one to those in your circle of friends here at Big Church.

Do the Saints who Have Died Already Pray for Those of Us Still Here? Apr 16, 2006 4:15 am

Hebrews 12:1 "Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us."

Hebrews 7:25 "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them."

Romans 8:26 "Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered."

This is a question I have had since I first read the above verse in Hebrews 12 decades ago. This verse seems to say that those who have gone on to glory before us can see us. Do they also pray for us while they are up there watching us?

In the other two verses above we see that Christ and the Holy Spirit are continually interceding for us. Thank You both!

So, this is my question - do you think that those who have gone on before us intercede for us?

If they do, can you imagine how powerful their prayers are? I hope that they do! I need all the prayer I can get!
Yes, I believe they do pray for us.
No, I don't believe they pray for us.
Not sure.

It Was Not the Nails that Held Him There! Apr 15, 2006 11:21 am

It was not the nails that held my precious Savior on that cross. It was His love for you, me and all the world! Thank You, Lord!

Did You Get Prayed into the Kingdom? Apr 15, 2006 9:53 am
646 Views
I believe that when someone becomes a child of God he or she is usually, if not always, prayed into the Kingdom. Do you know if someone prayed you into God's family? For me it was my mom's best friend. She got saved by her son praying, then she prayed my five siblings and myself into the Kingdom. I will be forever grateful to her for that!

Do you know of someone who prayed for you to become a Christian? If so, who was it?

Also, if someone did it for you, don't forget to make your own list and pray others into His Kingdom as well!

Thanks! Be blessed!
Yes, I was prayed into the Kingdom.
No, I don't think anyone prayed for me to become a Christian.
I don't know but will find out in Heaven!
