Does God Really Exist? Jan 6, 2008 6:14 am
Mood: Knowing God, 478 Views
I received this email yesterday, (thanks Steve) although I've read it before, I felt it worthy of your eyes.

This is one of the best explanations of why God allows pain and suffering that I have seen...

A man went to a barbershop to have
his hair cut and his beard trimmed.

As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation.

They talked about so many things and various subjects.

When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said:

"I don't believe that God exists."

"Why do you say that?" asked the customer. "Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist.

Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people?

Would there be abandoned children?

If God existed, there would be neither
suffering nor pain.

I can't imagine a loving God who would allow all of these things."

The customer thought for a moment,
but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument.

The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop.

Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard.

He looked dirty and unkempt. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber:

"You know what? Barbers do not exist."

"How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber. "I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!"

"No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside."

"Ah, but barbers DO exist! That's what happens when people do not come to me."

"Exactly!" affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist!

That's what happens when people do not go to Him and don't look to Him for help.

That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world."

God does exist. He is alive and well living in
heaven today. Do you know Him? I pray
you do.

What's The Prayer of Faith? Jan 5, 2008 7:51 am
Mood: Faithful, 436 Views
What is Faith?

To understand how to pray the prayer of faith, we need first of all to understand what faith is. Hebrews 11:1 gives us the answer:

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
I like the Amplified version:
NOW FAITH is the assurance, the confirmation, the title deed, of the things we hope for, being the proof of things we do not see and the conviction of their reality, faith perceiving as real fact, what is not revealed to the senses.

We also need to know how to develop faith if we are going to pray in faith. Romans 10:17 tells us:
So then, faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
From these scriptures, we can understand the prayer of faith. It's a prayer, based on God's Word, and it is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. When you pray the prayer of faith, you start with the answer, instead of the problem. Isn't it amazing how the Kingdom of God and His way of doing things seems opposite of how the world teaches?
God's Word holds the answer to your situation. So, if you're sick, find healing scriptures; if you have a financial need, find promises in the Word for provision. Then, when you pray, say what the Word says about your situation. Believe it, thank God for it, declare it, and continue to confess God's Word over that situation. Call those things that be not as though they were. Believe it is done, see yourself with the answer, act like you already have it, and then praise God for it.
It's really very simple. Every believer has been given the measure of faith. We ALL start out with the same amount. But then, it is up to us to make it grow. How do we make it grow? We exercise it, just like a muscle. If you want more faith, then exercise the faith you have.
Fifteen years ago, I prayed the prayer of faith for my ex-husband, and confessed to all that he was saved. His side of the family laughed at me, as he has been an alcoholic for 35 years and as atheistic as they come. I stood firm on the scripture that says, "It's God's will that none should perish". To this day, he's still drinking and still an atheist, but I don't care, I declare him saved, because I walk by faith, and not by sight. The prayer of faith will work if you'll stand on the Word of God instead of believing the circumstances. The evidence on which our faith rests is far more reliable than the evidence on which our senses rely. Our evidence is eternal, God's Word never fails. As far as I'm concerned, it is done. So, I know that I know, I'll see him in heaven.
So, find yourself the scriptures that promise what you're hoping for. I got a book at WalMart of Bible Promises, for $1, pray the prayer of faith, speaking those scriptures, believe when you pray, that you have received it, then thank God for receiving it, visualize yourself with it, and keep confessing it out of your mouth, no matter what the circumstances may show, and you shall have it. The more you exercise your faith, the bigger it will get.

Who Are You? Jan 4, 2008 2:03 pm
Mood: In Christ, 555 Views
Each one of us is a rare, one-of-a-kind person. We each have a God-given destiny to fulfill-a unique call, that ONLY we can carry out. But, in order to reach our full potential and truly succeed in life, we must learn to accept ourselves for WHO we are.

Now, I'm not talking about self-esteem here, I'm talking about identity. Too often, we see ourselves through our past performances and what we DO. But, through knowledge in the Word, I learned that my identity is not at all what I DO, rather it's found in what Jesus DID.

When I first started walking with the Lord, I was very negative. So many bad things had happened to me that it had become easier to expect and anticipate the next bad thing to happen, because, at least when it did, (and it usually did) I was prepared for it.
From childhood, I had been conditioned to believe that the better I behaved, the more love and acceptance I would receive. My identity was performance-oriented. So, when I tried to relate to God, I applied the same principle. The problem with that was that I was never able to act right all of the time, I couldn't be GOOD enough to get into God's good graces. I was weary, worn out, and hopeless, and that's exactly where Satan wanted me to be.
Then, through God's wonderful love, I read a scripture in the Bible that caused me to reconsider the platform I had built my identity on.

For our sake, He made Christ (virtually) to be sin, Who knew no sin, so that in and through Him, we might become...the righteousness of God, what we ought to be, approved and acceptable and in right relationship with Him, by His goodness.
2 Corinthians 5:21 Amplified

Wow!! That shook the foundation upon which my identity was based. When God sees me, He sees the righteousness of Christ, not everything I've done wrong. How could that be? I was damaged and flawed, even though my heart wanted to do the right things, I had a flesh, and was unable to do the things I wanted to do. It must be a misprint, lol. How could God love and approve of this sinner? This was very difficult for me to accept, in my intellectual mind. (I told you I was negative.)

The next day, again, in His wonderful love, God brought me to another scripture.

Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you and approved of you
Jeremiah 1:5 Amplified

Wow again! Wow! Wow! He approved of me, even in spite of all the wrong things I would ever do. And, if He is the measuring stick I use to base my opinions, then I had no right to disapprove of myself. I realized that if I continued to accept the condemning thoughts of the enemy, I could never walk in the confidence of Christ. You cannot walk in confidence and condemnation at the same time. Which would I choose? Which will you choose?
When Satan brings thoughts of condemnation to you, this is what you should say, outloud:

There is therefore now, no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. I am the apple of God's eye and He loves me. He has forgiven my sins and remembers them no more. Take that devil!

God doesn't want us to have our identity in our physical appearance, talents, education, job, children, friends, religion, or anything else. He wants us to find our personal identity in Christ alone. Apart from Him, we can do nothing. Today, make the decision to get your mind and your mouth in line with the Word. Start proclaiming the positive scriptures over your life, and you'll discover that His grace to succeed ia all you need.

Just so you don't get lost!!

Make a right onto Believeth Blvd.
Go through the green light, which is Jesus Christ.
Then, you must turn onto the Bridge of Faith, which is over troubled water.
When you get off the bridge, make a right turn and keep straight.
You're on King's Highway, Heaven-Bound.
Keep going for three miles: One for the Father, One for the Son, and One for the Holy Spirit.
Then, exit off onto Grace Blvd.
From there, make a right on Gospel Lane.
Keep straight for 2 blocks and make another right on Prayer Road.
As you go on your way, Yield not to the traffic on Temptation Ave.
Also, avoid Sin Street, because it is a dead end.
Pass up Envy Drive and Hate Avenue.
Also, pass Hypocrisy Street, Gossiping Lane, and Backbiting Blvd.
However, you have to go down Long-suffering Lane, Persecution Blvd, and Trials and Tribulations Ave.
But, that's all right, because Victory Street is straight ahead, proceed.
You have arrived, rejoice and be glad!!!

Life is a gift from God,
How you live it, is your gift to God.

To All "Invisible" Moms Jan 3, 2008 2:39 pm
Mood: Pleased, 470 Views
I received this email today from a girl I call my spiritual daughter. She came across my path 7 years ago, after her husband, who was physically abusive, left her and her 2 kids with nothing. She never had a job, as she married him right out of high school. She had no skills or training, no car, no money, and no one had ever taught her how to raise children. Her mother had abused her terribly, locking her in her bedroom for days, making her sleep on the floor, withholding food, as a punishment, and emotionally and verbally abusing her. The first thing I did was move her and her kids in with me. Then, I lead her to the Lord. After that, I encouraged her to go back to school and get her degree, as a paralegal, and began teaching her how to live, clean, cook, and raise her kids. I also love her kids, they were extremely traumatized and so insecure, but I acted as the grandma they never had.
Today, she is successfully working in a prominent Christian attorney's office, is on her own, and she and her children are doing well. This email touched my heart, I hope it does yours also:

Invisible Mother

It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and ask to be taken to the store. Inside, I'm thinking, "Can't you see I'm on the phone?" Obviously not; no one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing in the corner on my head, because no one can see me at all, I'm invisible. The Invisible Mom. Some days I am only a pair of hands, I'm not even a human being.
I was certain that these were the hands than once held books, and the eyes that studied history, and the mind that graduated summa cum laude-but now, they had all disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again. She's going, going, she's gone!
One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England. Janice had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, noticing how well put together she was, it was hard not to compare myself with her and feel sorry for myself. Then, she turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package and said, "I brought you this". It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe. I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me, until I read her inscription:
"To Charlotte, with admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees."
In the days ahead, I would read, no devour the book. And I would discover what would become, for me, life-changing truths. No one could say who built the great cathedrals-we have no record of their names. These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished. They made great sacrifices and expected no credit. The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.
A legendary story in the book, told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and saw a workman carving a tiny bird in the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, "Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof? No one will ever see it." And the workman replied, "Because God sees."
I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was almost as if I heard God whispering to me, "I see you Charlotte. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No act of kindness you've done, so sequin you've sewn, no cupcake you've baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over. You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become."
I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of those people who show up for a job that they will never see finished, to work on something their name will never be on.
As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot see if we're doing it right. And, one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.
Great job Mom!!!
Share this with all the Invisible Moms you know....I just did.

What a blessing this was to receive this, I never considered myself an "invisible" mom, but as I look at my spiritual daughter today, I realize that my efforts weren't in vain, and she has become a beautiful cathedral.

Religious Confusion and Disagreement, Why? Jan 3, 2008 12:05 pm
Mood: Crystal Clear, 549 Views
Religious confusion and disagreement abound. Religious people are divided into hundreds of different groups, wearing different names, worshipping in different ways, and teaching different doctrines.

Why?

A. Lack of Knowledge
Hosea 4:6-My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Ignorance causes confusion and division.
Romans 10:1-3-The Israelites had zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.
Matthew 22:24-The Sadducees were in error because they did not know the Scriptures.

Many circumstances may lead to a lack of knowledge of the truth. Consider some of them:
1. Some people simply have never had opportunity to learn the truth. (Acts 10:1-11, 18, Acts 11:14, Acts 8:26-39)
2. Some people simply do not study the Bible diligently enough. (Hebrews 5:12-14, Acts 17:11)
3. Some people do not handle the Bible properly. (2 Timothy 2:15, Matthew 4:5-7)
B. Human Religious Guides
Much division results because people follow doctrines invented by MAN, but NOT found in the Bible. They may determine their beliefs by human guides such as the following:
1. Preachers
Some people think, "It must be right because Reverend so-and-so says so." Preachers are useful IF they preach the truth, but many preach error. (2 Timothy 4:2-4, Matthew 7:15, 2 Corin 11:13-15) We must check out all teachings by the Bible (Acts 17:11)
2. Family or Friends
"I was brought up in this church, if it was good enough for my loved ones, it's good enough for me." It's wonderful if our family and friends really serve God, but what if they are in error? (Matt 7:13, 14) We MUST obey Jesus, even when loved ones disagree. (Matt 10:34-37)
3. Creed Books, Church Laws, and Traditions
Most denominations have man-made rules that the denomination follows. These rules are often written down as official statements of church doctrine. But, men have no right to make religious laws. (Matt 15:9, Eph 1:22, 23, James 4:12) No human writing or teaching should be viewed as an official, authoritative statement of church doctrine.
4. Other Human Religious Guides
People sometimes follow other human guides such as conscience, feelings, beliefs of the majority, etc. All such standards can lead us into error. Matthew 15:9,13-Following human doctrines makes worship vain. 2 John 9-Whoever goes beyond the teachings of Jesus, does not have the Father and the Son. Galatians 1:8,9-Anyone who preaches any doctrine other than the ONE TRUE gospel, is accursed. Jeremiah 10:23, Proverbs 14:12-The way a man should walk is not found within man himself. A way may seem right to men, yet result in death. We MUST trust in God's Word, not in human wisdom.
C. Preconceived Ideas, Pride, Lack of Love for Truth
Matthew 13:14, 15-People often close their eyes and ears to the truth. They may have believed a certain way for years, so they refuse to consider evidence for other views and they reject the truth.
2 Thessalonians 2:10-12-People who do not love truth enough, will instead believe a lie and be condemned. Such attributes invariably lead to religious disagreement and confusion.
To accept the truth, we must "hunger and thirst after righteousness" (Matt 5:6) We must honestly study what God's Word says, then accept truth with "readiness of mind" (James 1:19-21, Acts 17:11)
D. Personal Desires and Self-Will
Matthew 13:20-22-Serving God requires self-sacrifice and effort. Some people will not pay the price, so they justify themselves in disobedience.
2 Thessalonians 2:10-12, 2 Timothy 4:2-4-Some reject truth because they just enjoy unrighteousness. They want preachers to justify their sins.
Acts 7:51-Other people just rebel against authority, and seek to please themselves.

All such attitudes as these, contribute to religious division, disagreement, and confusion. Confusion is not caused by God or His Word. It is caused by people who do not obey God's Word diligently. Do you love the truth enough to follow it?
Religious division, disagreement, and confusion is NOT because God's will is unrevealed or incomplete, it is NOT because the Bible contains errors or contradictions, it is NOT because the Bible is impossible to understand, and is NOT because God approves division.
Some people think God does not object if sincere people are religiously divided.
John 17:20, 21-Jesus prayed for all who believe to believe in Him, to be one, as He and His Father are one.
1 Corinthians 1:10-13-Paul told the Corinthians to cease their divisions. Jesus is not divided, so His followers are not to be divided. His teachings do NOT divide people.
Ephesians 4:3-6-True unity is based on seven things of which there is only 1 each. Following many false Gods creates confusion, but following the one true God would promote unity. Likewise, there are many false faiths and false churches, which create division. But there is only one true faith and one true body. (Eph 1:22, 23, 5:22)
God is NOT the author of confusion, with that being true, we must look elsewhere for the real cause of the problem. If not God, then who?

Postscript: This post was inspired by NJ Believer, thank you Brother!

It's Going to 30 Degrees in South Florida Tonight!!! Jan 2, 2008 2:09 pm
Mood: In Heaven!, 857 Views
Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! Thank you Jesus!

WHAT? Think I'm silly? Perhaps even crazy? I LOVE the cold! You don't understand, I've lived in south Florida almost 40 years, haven't seen snow in 20 years. The temperatures are usually in the 80's and 90's with 100% humidity everyday! My electric bill is over $400 a month from my a/c running day and night. You get soaked and sweaty doing anything outdoors. It is not pleasant. What I'm doing here, I'll never know.

Last night, it went to 45 degrees, today, the high is 55. ALL my doors and windows are open, the ceiling fans in every room are on. Is this what heaven is gonna be like? I love it!!!

Everyone is scurrying here, to cover up plants, preparing for frost, farmers inland are irrigating the crops, to keep them from freezing, it's the talk of the day. It hasn't been 30 degrees here, on this date, for decades! I have lived in my house for 9 years and never even used the heater, not really sure it even works, lol.

Many churches are opening for shelter, for the over 1800 homeless in our county. The established homeless shelters only hold around 200 beds.

So, I'm a happy camper right now, wish I had a fireplace outside, so I could make some hot chocolate and sit around the fire. I assure you, my windows will be open, ceiling fans on, and I'll be thoroughly enjoying the cold! Hope you all stay warm tonight, as for me, I think I died and went to heaven! Hallelujah! Maybe it will even snow! NOT!! That would be too much to ask for, lol.

The First Time I Heard the Holy Spirit's Voice Jan 2, 2008 4:51 am
Mood: Listening, 638 Views
The Holy Spirit is given to every believer, the moment they accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. This is what Jesus had to say:

But the Comforter, (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby)The Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will give you in My Name, (in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf) will teach you all things. And, He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your rememberence) everything I have told you.
John 14:26 Amplified

His ministry in our lives is uncomprehendable to our mere intellect, His monumental assignment is to accomplish the perfect plan, purpose, and will of the Father, for each of our lives. But, at the same time, He is unique, intimate, and individual for every person.
Here are some of His attributes. He:
indwells us, (Romans 8:1) annoints us, (I John 2:20, 27) regenerates us, (John 3:3, 5) baptizes us, (Acts 2:17-41) guides us, (John 16:13) empowers us, (Micah 3: 8 ) sanctifies us, (Romans 15:16) bears witness to us, (Romans 8:16) comforts us, (John 14:16-26) gives us joy, (Romans 14:17) gives discernment, (I Cor 2:10-16) bears fruit, (Gal 5:22, 23) gives gifts, (I Cor 12:3-11) illuminates our mind, (I Cor 2:12, 13) and reveals the things of God. (Is 40:13,14)

But, what benefit is He to us, if we can't hear Him? Sometimes we hear that still, small voice and disregard it, dismiss it, or ignore it. I hear from the Holy Spirit every day, many times each day, but it took me a while to get to the place where I learned and recognized the sound of His voice. I talk back to Him, I sometimes even argue with Him. (which is pretty stupid) The thing He is most awesome for, in my life, is finding things I have lost. I ask the Holy Spirit to lead me to where something is, and He ALWAYS does. I'll never forget the first time I heard His voice.

I was just a baby Christian and had recently learned the principles of tithing. I had $80 to give and was praying for God to lead me as to where to sow my seed. I heard a voice come into my thoughts, "Give Linda $80". That's all I heard, short, sweet, and to the point. Linda was a friend of mine, a single mom like me. I said, out loud, "Give Linda $80?" Where did that come from? You don't sow tithes to individuals, just to church or ministry. (As I said, I was a baby Christian, and rather ignorant of spiritual things) It seemed foolish at the time, so I kept praying. Again, I heard the same voice, "Give Linda $80." Again I dismissed it. The next day, while praying, I heard that voice again, "Give Linda $80." I said, "God, why do I keep hearing this?" I continued praying, still with no direction as to where to sow my tithe. The third day, while praying, I heard it again, "Give Linda $80." Finally, I said, "OK, I'll give Linda $80."
That day, I went to see Linda and gave her a check for $80. She asked me what it was for, and I told her, "I don't know, I just kept hearing this voice tell me to give it to you, so here it is." Later, she told me she thanked God for it and asked what He would have her do with it, should she pay a bill, get some groceries, what? She received no answer. The next day, while working, she got a phone call from her daughter, who told her that when she arrived home from school, there was a note on their front door, from the electric company, they had shut off her electricity. Linda told her she would take care of it. She called the electric company, to see what she would have to do to get the power restored, and yes, you guessed it, they wanted $80 to turn it back on. WOW!!! Talk about a revelation? We were both shocked!

After that, I listened and learned to recognize the sound of that still, small voice. Sometimes, He speaks profoundly about a certain situation, others He seems almost trivial when He speaks. Once, I was driving, and I heard, "Don't take Ortiz Ave", just as I got into the turn lane to go down Ortiz Ave. I said, "Oh, it will be OK, I don't want to get on the interstate", as I continued with MY plan. About a mile down Ortiz Ave, I found construction going on, and it took me 30 minutes to go 1 mile. Why didn't I listen? Every other time, I have heard that voice and not obeyed, I regretted it.

What good does it do to have the Holy Spirit to lead you and guide you into all truth, if you can't hear him? Or, if you hear, and ignore? If you aren't reaping all the benefits and assistance that the Holy Spirit is there to give you, would you consider asking God to soften your heart, and give you ears to hear? He will answer that prayer, then the next time you hear that still, small voice, pay attention to what He has to say.

"Thus Saith The Lord", in 2008! Jan 1, 2008 4:07 am
Mood: Reverant, 562 Views
A Word from God for you today, and every day, in 2008.

I woke up yesterday morning, sick as a dog, with a respiratory infection. I believe God allowed it, because He did not want me to get distracted with the world, on this New Year's Eve. As I prayed and meditated on His Word, I felt impressed to pray the 91st Psalm over each of you, here at bc, for 2008. Please read it, receive it, and agree with it.

He WHO dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall remain stable and fixed under the Shadow of the Almighty, Whose power no foe can withstand.
I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him, I confidently trust.
For He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with His pinions, and under His wings shall you trust and find refuge. His truth and His faithfulness are a shield and a buckler.
You shall not be afraid of the terror of the night, nor of the arrow that flies by day.
Nor of the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor of the destruction and sudden death that surprise and lay waste at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.
Only a spectator shall you be, as you witness the reward of the wicked.
Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High, your dwelling place.
There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent.
For He will give His angels charge over you, to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways.
They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone.
You shall tread upon the lion and adder, the young lion and the serpent shall you trample under foot.
Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My Name.
He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life, will I satisfy him, and show him My salvation.

This is what God gave me, to pray on your behalf, in 2008. Receive it and believe it. May it produce a confidence and assurance in His love and mighty power, in your life. Amen.

Why Did Jesus Fold The Linen Burial Cloth? Dec 31, 2007 6:05 am
Mood: Rejoicing!, 588 Views
As many times as I have read this scripture, I never realized the significance of it, until now.

And they came running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and arrived at the tomb first.
And, stooping down, he saw the the linen cloths lying there, but he did not enter.
Then, Simon Peter came up, following him, and went into the tomb and saw the linen cloths lying there.
BUT, the burial napkin which had been around Jesus' head, was not lying with the other linen cloths, but was still rolled up in a place by itself.

John 20:4-7

I never even questioned this, although now that it has been pointed out to me, it does seem strange. Why was the burial napkin still rolled up, and not with the other linen cloths?

This scripture tells us that the napkin placed over the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside like the grave clothes. The Bible takes an entire verse to tell us that the napkin was neatly folded, and was placed at the head of that stony coffin.

Is that important?
You'd better believe it!
Is that significant?
Absolutely!
Is it REALLY significant?
Yes!!!!!

In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin, you have to understand a little about Hebrew tradition of that day. (which I was unaware of) The folded napkin had to do with the Master and Servant, and every Jewish boy knew this tradition.

When the servant set the dinner table for the master, he made sure that it was exactly the way the master wanted it. The table was furnished perfectly, and then the servant would wait, just out of sight, until the master had finished eating, and the servant would not dare touch that table, until the master had finished.

Now, if the master was done eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his fingers, his mouth, and clean his beard, and would wad up that napkin and toss it onto the table. The servant would then know to clear the table. For, in those days, the wadded napkin meant, "I'm done".

But, if the master got up from the table, and folded his napkin, and laid it beside his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table, because the servant knew that the folded napkin meant "I'm not finished yet". The folded napkin meant, "I'm coming back".

Even in His ascension, Jesus was trying to leave us with a message of calm assurance that He is coming back. That folded napkin, now that I know the significance of it, is my hope in His soon return. And I wait expectantly for that glorious day! Hallelujah to the Lamb of God! Come soon Lord Jesus! Amen and Amen.
