The BC Bash--From My Perspective Jul 7, 2008 3:49 am
Mood: Blessed! Blessed! Blessed!, 1411 Views
Now that you've had a chance to read the many posts about the BC Bash, please allow me to write one from my perspective, lol. Unfortunately, there's so much to say that this may be a long post, hahahaha, sorry Glo!

First and foremost, I thank God for this awesome opportunity! It was my privilege to host this party. Many have written such kind words about me, but let me set the record straight--it was I who was blessed beyond measure, to meet and have fellowship with so many that I have interracted with for a year, on a daily basis. My only regret was that it was too short, lol.

It could not have even happened without the gracious help from Jean, Ken, and Alan. I wish to thank them also for their many efforts in the days preceeding this event, yes, there was alot of work and planning that contributed to the success of this party. My wonderful friends, I could not have pulled it off without you!

By now, you know the highlights--the singing, dancing, karaoke, praising the Lord, prayer, beautiful sunsets, BBQ, fireworks, worship, music, laughter, and fellowship. In addition, what a wonderful time we had speaking to many other bloggers by phone--Penelope, I knew it was you when the first thing I heard was "You blinkin Americans," lol, and Clay, Kristy, Susan, Jeff, Steve, Dennis, Sandra, oh what an honor to now associate voices to the faces I see every day! I don't think anyone mentioned Ken (strgzr) all dressed up in his grass skirt and coconut shells, doing the hula dance, lol. (just for you Joybells) On Sunday morning, we attended my church where we were further blessed by the service and communion. The tears were streaming down my face as we all worshipped together.

Of course, little Billy was the main attraction, as everyone wanted him, lol, on his 6-month birthday. We also celebrated Bill & Charie's 2-year anniversary on Sunday. Pictures? Did you say pictures? lol Yes, I already have 500 of them on my computer, as I would not allow anyone to leave without stealing their memory cards, still have to get Bill's, so I'm sure there will be in excess of 600 pics for your viewing pleasure, and I will make up some albums in the upcoming days. If you're not in my friends network, please let me know or send me an invite, and you'll be able to see the many highlights.

Last, but certainly not least, God gave us the most gorgeous grand finale on Sunday night. We walked outside to see the most gorgeous, brilliant, vivid rainbow, just outside my front door. It was as if He was saying, "Well done, good and faithful servants."
My thanks to all of you who prayed for this event, I thank everyone who attended and everyone who called. It was I, more than anyone else, that was blessed beyond measure!

My only question is: Who will pick up the mantle, and host the 2nd Annual BC Bash? Any volunteers? lol

The Very First BigChurch Party-It's Almost Here!!! Jul 2, 2008 4:11 am
Mood: Excited!!!, 975 Views
Today, I feel like a little kid on Christmas Day. The excitement and anticipation of what is to come, knowing that good things are just waiting for you. Finally, after over 4 months in the planning, it's about to happen. The 1st Annual BigChurch Bash is almost here. We picked up Ginny (JerseyGirl) and her daughter from the airport yesterday, and Brad (Write4Him) will be coming in this evening. Bill (dundeal) and his family were here last night, and if that was any indication, this party will be amazing.

It's not too late to make your plans to be here, it's going to be July 4, 5, and 6th, at my house in Cape Coral Florida. (Email me for directions) There will be praise and worship, BBQ's, fireworks, great fellowship, and all the glory will go to Jesus. I'm sure that there will also be some thrown into the pool, lol. There will be games and prizes, karaoke, many are bringing their instruments and we will be singing praises unto the Lord.

For all of you unable to attend, take heart, there will be many Kodak moments to share with you next week. And, for all of you inquiring minds, yes, romance will be in the air, stay tuned for more details, lol.
This will probably be my last post for a few days, but know I'll be having a wonderful time in praise and fellowship and pray that each of you have a blessed holiday weekend!

Why Fear Is So Dangerous Jul 1, 2008 2:58 am
Mood: Not Fearful!, 791 Views
I've always boasted about not fearing anything. I've scuba dived with shark and barracuda, swam with alligators, and bugs, spiders, snakes, and rats don't bother me at all. I've always wanted to skydive since I was very young, hitchhiked across country for four months, and left home and was on my own when I was 10 years old. The only fear I can say I've ever felt was the fear of fire, as it could destroy my racing collection, lol, my retirement plan. But, lately, I'm finding myself a bit fearful.

Why does the Lord caution us about fear? After all the most often repeated command in the Bible is "Fear not." (I'm told there are 365 "Fear not"s in the KJV) The reason fear is dangerous is because fear brings upon itself what it fears. Even Job said "the thing I feared the most, has come upon me." A famous president once said, "You have nothing to fear but fear itself." It is true: fear is the thing we MUST avoid.

Fear is not just a distressing emotion; it is the spiritual force of satan’s kingdom. Faith is the force of God’s kingdom. We are saved by faith, we are healed by faith, and we move mountains by faith. Faith attracts God’s blessings to you, yet fear attracts satan’s curses to you. Fear is a force. Remember when Peter walked on the water. He did fine until he was afraid. His fear sank him. Fear is the opposite of faith. "And whatever is not of faith is sin"
Romans 14:23. Fear is a sin.

According to the Revelation 21:8, the fearful will be cast into the lake of fire. Fear is that serious! We have to resist it like we would resist any other sin. Many Christians do not even consider it a sin. Yet it is!

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
2 Tim 1:v7, KJV

Fear is called a spirit. It is a demon. No Christian wants to have a demon, and yet when you operate in fear, you are demonically inspired. Wow! I do not like to hear that, but it is true. How do you overcome fear? There are three forces that help us overcome it when we realize it is present within us. The forces are mentioned in the above verse: power, love and a sound mind.

Let us ask an important question: why do we fear? We are afraid because we feel powerless. We feel that we can’t change something. We fear because we feel helpless. As long as you have power to change some evil, then fear cannot take over.

The Bible says that we have power to resist the devil, and he will flee from us. We can heal the sick. We can call on our angels for protection. Listen, we do have power! We can overcome evil with good. When you recognize that you have power, then fear cannot stay. Fear cannot coexist with power.

The Bible also says that we have love. The Bible directly shows the correlation between love and fear.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
I Jn 4:18

Fear and love cannot coexist either. You either have love or fear. You cannot have both. In this passage, John shows that the person who fears, doubts God’s love for him. When you know that God loves you, then you know He will help you, not harm you. We often fear because we believe we deserve punishment. We think God is out to get us. Yet He is out to help us.

The one area that fear will attack is the mind. This is why Paul said that we have a sound mind. God did not create your mind to handle fear. Your mind is not wired for fear anymore than you are wired for electricity.

Jesus said, "Men’s heart’s will fail them for fear." Being fearful, you will begin to lose courage. Without courage you will never be able to win over your battles. Isaiah prophesied what fear could do. "Whoever flees at the sound of terror will fall into a pit"
Isa 24:18

God told Gideon to send home all the men who feared. God knows that fear will bring failure. It’s time that you purpose to live fear-free. Whenever you notice fear in your life, then resist it by quoting the Word of God.

Fear is torment, it is the opposite of faith, and a stronghold in which the enemy can operate in our lives. Just for today, I will not fear, I will step out of the boat in perfect faith, because I am powerful, full of love, and equipped with a sound mind.

How about you?

No Holiness--No Inheritance Jun 30, 2008 4:38 am
Mood: Pursuing Holiness, 698 Views
The Holy Spirit has been speaking to me lately about holiness. Several times, He has put scriptures on my heart pertaining to holiness. These scriptures have caused me a great deal of contemplation:

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Gal 5:19-21

That last sentence is really scary. Now, if you disagree, don't stone me, I didn't write it, Paul did. Then, there's this one:

Instead, you yourselves cheat and do wrong, and you do this to your brothers. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
1 Cor 6:8-10

Ouch! That one hurts too! Surely, ALL of us can relate to at least one of these conditions.

Holiness conjures up all of these legalistic images of what we can't do. But, there's alot to be said for seeking holiness in your life. Holiness allows us to "see".

“See to it that no one misses the grace of God…”
Hebrews 12:15

The most important thing you need to do to get close to someone is to “see” them. Long distance relationships are difficult to maintain. The same is true of God. You must “see” the Lord if you want to get close to Him. The Hebrew writer plays on the word “see.” Without holiness no one will "see" the Lord. He could have said no one will be “saved”, but instead he chose the word “see”, because this word implies a relationship, not just trying to please God so you can be saved. Notice how often he uses the word “see” in this chapter.

v. 15 "See to it..."
v. 16 "See that no one is sexually immoral..."
v. 25 "See to it that you do not..."

Holiness will open your eyes to see how great God is and how awful worldliness is. Sin will blind you to several important truths, yet holiness will enable you to see several things.
1. "See" the precious grace of God.
His precious grace is a supernatural enablement to “say no to ungodliness”, not a license to give us permission to say “yes to immorality”. (see Titus 2:12)
2. "See" the defilement of bitterness.
When a person pursues holiness, he sees more clearly his own weakness, therefore is patient when others harm him. Show me a person who is bitter toward another, and I will show you someone who is not grateful to God for their own forgiveness.
3. "See" the high cost of sexual immorality.
There is an absolute epidemic in the body of Christ. It has become a cancer and is spreading quickly throughout the church and even its leadership; it is sexual immorality.
4. "See" the benefit of faith.
Hebrews tells us that God rewards those who trust Him. We are strengthened in our faith when we are blessed. Holiness allows God to bring about the desires of our hearts.

Salvation is like a coal. Holiness is like a diamond. You may be saved, but through the Lord’s discipline and godly pressure, the coal can turn into a diamond. Do not be satisfied simply with being saved, desire holiness as well.

You see, without holiness you cannot “see” the Lord. You are blind to your own failures and sins and are cold in your relationship with God. I encourage you to pursue true holiness with God and you will be rewarded by the Lord. The benefits of holiness greatly outweigh the sacrifice of sin.

Waiting...Waiting...Waiting...On God Jun 29, 2008 5:27 am
Mood: Realizing the Harvest, 707 Views
It's all about God's timing and not mine. The person deeply in tuned to the Lord knows about God’s timing. He understands that often the secret to success is in doing the right thing at the right time. Timing can be everything.

As wise Solomon wrote, "He has made everything beautiful in its time"
Ecc 3:11

The thing that made David’s kingdom the greatest dynasty in Israel’s history was because David’s military leaders "understood the times and knew what Israel should do"
1 Chron 12:32

For some people, never is the right time. They never seem to do anything because they procrastinate. And why do some people procrastinate? People procrastinate because they don’t realize that they DON'T have forever to accomplish what they need to accomplish. Moses, who was once a great procrastinator, wrote, "Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom".
Ps 90:12
Once Moses knew that his time on earth was limited he finally got under way to accomplish his purpose, even if at the age of 80.

On the other side of the spectrum, are those who think that anytime is the right time. Jesus said of His unspiritual brothers, "For you, any time is right" (John 7:6). Jesus was very aware of God’s right time. He said to his brothers, "The right time for me has not yet come." And to his mother, He said, "My time has not yet come."

God is aware of the importance of acting in the right time. The Bible says, "when the time had fully come, God sent his Son" Gal 4:4
God did not send Jesus too early or too late. Just at the right time.

God has made it easy for us to understand His timing. I used to think God's timing was such a mystery, when, God when? But, He made it simple to discover His time by giving us the seasons of life. You must understand that everything has seasons. This scripture gave me great insight into waiting on God's timing.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:
Ecc 3:1

I discovered that to know the time for everything, you need to understand that every activity has a season. Seasons are God’s clue to timing. Just as there are four seasons of nature, there are four seasons of life. Each season corresponds to a particular action that you need to take. For example, there is a time to plant and a time to reap. How do you know if it’s time to reap? You know it’s time, when the harvest is ripe. The same is true of life.

The four seasons of life are: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. Each of these seasons demands a particular action on your part. During the Winter you need to dream and plan. In Spring you need to plant. For Summer you must water and cultivate. And during Fall you finally reap and distribute.

So to find out God’s time you simply need to ask yourself, "What season am I in?" You may be in Winter in your finances, dreaming and planning your financial future, while being in Summer with your career, watering and cultivating the circumstances in your job, to be able to reap the promotion in the fall.

For many years, I just convinced myself to be satisfied with knowing that God's timing is perfect, things will come when He is ready, and to trust Him enough to wait. But when I learned about the seasons in my life, it helped me to realize what I had to do in a particuar area to reap my harvest. And, it helped me to wait. We all want to reap the harvest, without having to go through the other seasons. That's not God's way of doing things. I first had to plan, to dream, to imagine and create. (Winter) Then, I had to plant the seeds of what I was believing for, seeds of prayer, seeds of obedience, and seeds of faith. (Spring) Next, I had to water and pay attention to the dream and goal by preparing for its manifestation, confessing the end result, and praising and thanking God daily for the answers. (Summer) Finally, the harvest will come. In many areas of my life, my harvest is at hand. All the years of going throught the other seasons have paved the way for my harvest.

You may be in a time in your life when everything seems dead and lifeless—like Winter. But, you see, this is a time for you to dream. And dream big. This is not wasted time! I feel like there are people reading this, who are very discouraged over their life. Perhaps maybe you. Life seems cold and dark. You seem to be locked up in your own private closet with nothing to do. But my friend, there is much to do. Dream, plan, and imagine, sow and plant, water, and fertilize, then finally, your season will come.

Do you want to know God's timing? Ask yourself, "What season am I in?"

What Jesus Said About The End Times Jun 27, 2008 3:44 am
Mood: Anticipating!, 764 Views
I love the study of prophecy! A class on the book of Revelation is what led me to be saved, 18 years ago. Every prophecy about the coming of Jesus in the Old Testament, has been fulfilled. But, what did Jesus Himself, say concerning the future? Luke 21 is an excellent place to begin. You may be surprised to discover that He spent more time teaching about what our attitude should be than the specific details about the end times.

“Teacher,” they asked, “when will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are about to take place?” He replied: “WATCH OUT THAT YOU ARE NOT DECEIVED. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The time is near.’ Do not follow them.”
Luke 21:v7-8

“Watch out that you are NOT DECEIVED.” Jesus here warns about False Christs. “Do not follow them” — that is, the false Christs.

“When you hear of wars and revolutions, do NOT BE FRIGHTENED. These things must happen first, but the end will not come right away.” Then He said to them: “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven.”
Luke 21:9-11

If “Jesus Christ...the Lord of all” is YOUR Lord, then hear His encouragement: “Do not be frightened.” And yet some teachers of end times prophecy today succeed primarily in leaving their audiences or readers scared half to death! Remember — Jesus said, "Do not be frightened!"

But before all this, they will lay hands on you and PERSECUTE you. They will deliver you to synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors, and all on account of My name. This will result in your being witnesses to them. But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict.
Luke 21:12-15

Don’t worry about how to respond to terrible PERSECUTION in the end times. Persecution becomes an occasion for witness. Jesus will give you wise words to speak.

You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers, relatives and friends, and they will put some of you to death. All men will hate you because of Me. But not a hair of your head will perish. By STANDING FIRM you will gain life.
Luke 21:16-19

The end times will be HOSTILE times. Expect betrayal, even by family and friends. Expect the hatred of “all men.” The solution: “By STANDING FIRM you will gain life.” Endure to the end, another of the Gospels states. Don’t give up! Don’t fall away!

“There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things BEGIN to take place, stand up and LIFT UP YOUR HEADS, because your redemption is drawing near.”
Like 21:25-28

Earth- and heaven-shaking signs will occur. For BELIEVERS, those are NOT times of fear. These specific signs of the end times signal the Lord’s soon coming. Our proper response? (My fav part!) Stand up, look up, rejoice, get ready! Here He comes! Hallelujah!

Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap. For it will come upon all those who live on the face of the whole earth. Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.
Luke 21:34-36

Jesus closes with some exhortations on proper end-time attitudes and conduct:

“Be careful” — no room for a casual, nonchalant approach to our faith.

Avoid harmful conduct like “dissipation, drunkenness.”

Don’t let the “anxieties of life” bog you down and turn your focus away from Jesus.

If we don’t heed these charges, the end times will come upon us “unexpectedly like a trap.”

“Be always on the watch” — including taking your own spiritual pulse often. “How am I doing?”

“...and PRAY” — concerning these things, and just pray — period!

The goal, the object of our prayers, is that we live in such a way that the Lord allows the believers alive in the end times to “escape all that is about to happen.”

We will be wise not to focus too much on end times prophecy and the signs of the end times. Our energies will be better expended at efforts to live godly, faith-filled, Christ-centered lives, and thereby to BE READY when Jesus comes.

Are you ready?

What Did Jesus Really Look Like? Jun 26, 2008 4:05 am
Mood: Just Wondering....., 1219 Views
I have wondered many times where the inspiration for all the pictures of Jesus come from. How does the artist know that's how He looked? It's a pretty monumental task to paint His picture, where would you look for guidance? How would you decide His features, eye color, and hair color, style, and length?

This picture (see above, click to enlarge) was created by the acclaimed portrait artist Stan Stevenson. He drew the portrait using computer-enhanced photographs of the Shroud of Turin. He drew the portrait exactly as the man would have looked BEFORE the beating.

Jesus was a Jew, and according to anthropologists, Jews belong to the Caucasian race, which includes all those throughout Europe, the Middle East, and north of the Sahara. What some commonly call the Jewish, Arab, or European race is really a misnomer. Those would be ethnic groups within the same race, thus they may share similar features. In fact, sometimes, a person within an ethnic group may be mistaken as being part of another ethnic group.

Can you always tell who is a German, an Englishman, an Iranian, or a Spaniard? There are many light skin, light hair Iraqis and on the contrary there are many dark skin, dark hair Romanians. To think that an ethnic group must always resemble certain features is ludicrous.

Ask this important question: are there many modern-day Jews that would fit the profile of this portrait? Of course!

To the artist’s credit, he made the skin darker, assuming that Christ would have lived much of His life outdoors, and thus His skin darkened by the hot sun. You will notice that the hair is dark, not blonde. And they eyes are so piercing, as though they could see right through you. They can, and do.

Many have professed to have had a vision of Jesus, many agree that this is what He looked like in their vision. Some disagree. For me, it's irrelevant what His face will look like, only that I will get to see it.

What do you think?

My niece, Jessie was interested in what I see at this place called BigChurch. I told her it was a wonderful place of friendship, fellowship, and good, sound, Christian teaching. (for the most part) I told her how kind and compassionate the bloggers were.

Of course, her very first post, Chosing a stepdad for my kids drew the hateful, the judgemental, and the angry. She's a beautiful, but confused girl, hurting deeply. There is such a thing as telling the truth, in love, ya know. Thanks Kristy for the words, Hate the sin, love the sinner. Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone, you know who you are and you cast the first, second, third, etc. as usual.

Thank you to each of her who showed her compassion and love, and to those who said they'd pray for her, God bless you!

Jessie, I love you and I'm sorry you got stuck with the few jerks here, on your very first post, but believe me, there's more good than bad.

Blog on Baby! And know that Aunt Terrie's praying for you, along with some loving, compassionate people here. Keep looking to God for the answers, kiss Brock and Scevie for me!

What Does The Bible Say About Interracial Marriage? Jun 23, 2008 5:09 am
Mood: Not Prejudice!, 1705 Views
Ten years ago, I would never have considered marrying outside of my race. I was raised at the opposite end of the spectrum. As a child, my parents owned a grocery store in the middle of a black neighborhood. There were many negative connotations associated with that, which just confirmed what I was taught. Then, my rapist was black and for another 20 years, I could not even look a black man in the eyes. But, then God.....

One of the things gleaned from the Old Testament for me, was the story of the life of Moses. Through learning about him, I discovered that God is absolutely NOT against interracial marriages. God only commands us to marry people of the Christian faith. He's concerned about a person's heart, not what color of skin he or she has. The story of Moses' marrying outside of his race is actually quite humorous and clearly illustrates God's hatred toward prejudice.

Moses' sister Miriam disagreed with Moses' decision to marry an Ethiopian woman. Ethiopia is in east Africa, just north of the equator--this is a location of the black race. Moses married a black woman. Miriam's prejudice is evident: "...Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married..."
Numbers 12:1

I love how God responded to Miriam's prejudice against Moses' black wife. God turned Miriam's skin white as snow! How funny is that? lol Through this, God was saying to her: Miriam, if you think that black is ugly, then white must be beautiful. So I'm going to give you extra white skin.

Miriam soon discovered that white wasn't more beautiful than black. Finally, her younger brother Aaron cried out to Moses in behalf of his sister: "Please, my lord, do not hold against us the sin we have so foolishly committed" (v. 11).

Prejudice is a foolish sin. Prejudice is ignorance gone mad. After Miriam learned her lesson the hard way, Moses prayed for her healing and God answered.

However, I will say that marrying outside of your race does bring additional challenges, especially where having children are concerned. Not everyone has learned the lesson that God taught me through Moses, and often family and friends can present their own prejudice to the mix. The differences in cultures may impose certain stresses also, but, if two people really love each other, and are committed to the relationship, any obstacle can be overcome.

Let's learn from this story how God hates prejudice! Let's get rid of preconceived concepts of right and wrong that have been presented in our childhoods and love each other the way God intended. I did, and have turned aroung 180 degrees in my attitude towards people marrying outside of their race.

Some people might ask, "Why did God forbid Israel from intermarrying with surrounding nations?"

The reason for this was not the color of their skin or their national origin, but the condition of their heart. These people were idol worshippers. They did not believe in the One True God. The same principle applies today for us born-again Christians: We should not marry anyone who is not born again.
