A Follower of Christ

Nobody worries about Christ as long as he can be kept shut up in
churches. He is quite safe inside. But there is always trouble
if you try and let him out.

-- G. A. Studdert Kennedy

A Christian……..a follower of Christ……how do you follow Christ? How do you love Christ? Whose will………His will? How do you hear Him when He speaks? Do you hear Him? Do you listen?

Which are you…….one like the woman caught in adultery……..or the prideful scorner hurling stones?

Are you like the humble tax collector who comes before God admitting your brokenness……….or are you like the Pharisee…..better than the broken one?

Are you saved? You know the beginning…….you know the ending…….but what comes between?

What does this mean?
Luk 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

What does it mean to you?

I have to admit, there is nothing easy in being a follower of Christ. It’s easy being saved, easy reading the Bible, going to church, praying but when it comes to actually living our belief and faith……we fail miserably.

Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

I have taken these two verses to heart in a big way. Because being a follower of Christ is sometimes burdensome. Giving up your desires for His desires, asking for His will in your life as opposed to your own….this is not an easy thing. But He equips us, and gives us the strength we need to walk the walk with Him.

Psa 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

When you ask God to create in you a clean heart…….it means sometimes He has to break you down, bring you to your knees……..and it hurts! Coming face to face with God with all your brokenness has got to be one of the most painful things you will ever do….but I can tell you from the depth of my heart that it is the most spirit refreshing thing you will ever do!

The closer you draw to God, the lonlier you feel as a Christian. There is nothing sadder than talking with a fellow believer about the wonders of the Holy Spirit, the amazing grace of God, and they look at you with glazed eyes. I know this because I too once stood with glazed eyes, just “not getting it”. When I talk about listening to His Word while I sleep, or listening to His Word on my IPOD as I walk, other Christians look at me as though I am whacko!

Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

What does that verse mean to you? It means exactly what it says to me.

And if we are mocked for loving God this way……….who is being mocked……is it me………is it God’s work in me……..is it God Himself?

Mt. 11:15

My son would roast me alive if he heard me refer to him as my gorgeous hunk!!! He is an awesome young man.....I am so proud of him, and it just fills my heart with joy to watch him grow in his relationship with the Lord.

Anyways he has his VCE exams happening right now, and if you feel led, could I please ask you to pray for him? He has one exam today...legal studies, tomorrow it's history and friday he has geography and legal studies.....then he's done with school for the moment!

I found an analogy from an unwitting host.....the DUNK!!! Nov 11, 2008 12:47 pm

I found a great little analogy to unpack....how God's Word can get twisted and distorted!

I come from Victoria, Australia and as you know I showed a few happy snaps of the Victorian coastline.

Loki made this comment in one:
The water looks so peaceful and inviting.Too bad Victorian women don't wear bathing suits.

Now being a highly intellectual individual and totally on Loki's wavelength, I knew she was talking about the Victorian Era, which all us intellectuals know, was a very prudish era where women had to set a very high standard of behaviour when it came to morals. Victorian women were only allowed to display the bare minimum whilst frolicking in the waves....eg toes and face!!

But the Dunkster, in his boyish excitable innocence read the statement in an ENTIRELY different way!!

His response to Loki?
They don't??? Really??? scuse me I'm sooooooooo outta of here and on my way to Victoria Australia

When faced with a dilemma such as this, and an enquiring mind such as the Dunk's , we all know that to solve the mystery, you go to the Source of the mystery....in this case, you just ask a Victorian!

The same is true with God's Word. There are so many arguements played out here on BC, on what God's Word says. We have heard the rapture/trib arguements, the tongues/no tongues arguements, and many many more!!

There are some things in God's Word that He has made perfectly clear to us, and some that He hasn't. If He wanted us to have THE solution, He would have given it to us clearly and definitely. God will reveal what He wants to reveal, when He wants to reveal it.

There are many Christians who have vast knowledge of the Bible. They can quote verse after verse and tell you exactly where it can be found. They know biblical history the same way I know where things are in the supermarket aisle (well mostly LO.

Knowledge is a wonderful thing...we all need to gain knowledge. Without it, we find ourselves floundering in a helpless state. We need to have the knowledge of God's Word.

Then, there are some verses in the Bible, where someone will say it means this, and yet others don't see it in quite the same way. God's Word is alive, and often He will use a verse to teach not just one truth on a given day. Have you ever read some verses that you have read many times in the past, yet this one time, a particular verse jumps out at you...and you wonder how come you never noticed that before? It's because God's Word is alive....He speaks to us through His Word...literally!

If you want to find the answer to a biblical dilemma...the only way to find the TRUE answer, is to go to the Source! You have to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal what God is saying in this particular instance.

Look at this verse:

Act 1:5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

To some this verse is pretty straightforward, but to others it raises a whole lot of issues! To understand this one verse, you have to read everything about the workings of the Holy Spirit. You will not find the answer from grabbing a verse here and there.

Do you understand what I'm trying to say here? I hope so LOL! As you read God's Word, and you come up against something you don't quite understand...sure it's ok to discuss it with others...sure it's ok to ask your pastor....but don't forget to ask the Source Himself! Pray before you read...and ask Him to reveal His Truth!

So Dunky....the answer to your question?

YES, VICTORIAN WOMEN DO WEAR BATHING SUITS.....UNLESS OF COURSE THEY GO TO A NUDIST BEACH!!

LIFE CHANGING MOMENTS Nov 11, 2008 2:18 am

Sometimes, things happen in your life that impact you so profoundly, you know you will never be the same again.

No matter how hard you try to hold onto the "old you", it just can't happen. Things happen that change us, and because we have a hope in Christ, we can believe the promise that "all things work together for good, to those who love the Lord".

I think it's very important to always have an open heart to God's leading. And we just have to be teachable....God teaches us through these times. These times of change are times of growth and we have to come to a point of understanding....when we are walking the path He has set before us......nothing happens unless He allows it to happen. I have to be honest, sometimes it's very hard to understand but His ways are not as our ways. This is where trust comes in....and trusting God is an act of will.....and we have the capacity to do it....so long as we draw near to Him through these changes in our lives.

As a child of God, I have discovered, there is no standing still. And those that do....they stagnate. This is not God's desire for us. We will never reach a point where God has revealed all He has to reveal.....that final revelation will only happen when we walk through heaven's door!

You have watched me fall, get back up again, fall, get back up again...you are most likely learning an important lesson through this...LOL how NOT to do something!!! I guess it's not a bad thing, learning from someone else's mistakes....just make sure you don't make the same!!

But no matter how many times you falter, no matter how many times you fall so hard that you can't get up...Jesus is ALWAYS there...even when it doesn't feel like it. And I can guarantee He will NEVER let you stay down too long.

Well goodnight my dearly loved friends.....I am going to sit with my Lord!

COME TO ME Nov 11, 2008 12:37 am

My Princess....

COME TO ME

I saw you before you were born. Even then you were on my mind, my daughter. I knew you were coming, and I did everything possible to extend my love to you and extend my invitation to you. Now that you are Mine, I want you to continue to come to Me. Come to Me when you feel strong and when you feel weary. Come to Me when you are rejoicing and when your spirit is crushed. I ask you to come not only to give you rest, but also because there is so much more I want to teach you. There is more of Me I want to reveal to you. You see, I did not create you for this fallen world. I created you for Paradise, but the curse of sin tore us apart. I've conquered sin and death for you through the death of My Son, so come to Me.....and live.

Love,
Your King who is waiting

(From the book, His Princess, Love Letters from Your King- Sheri Rose Shepherd)

"Come to Me all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle, and you will find rest for your soul"
Mt 11:28-29

You may recall my encounter with Jesus on Sunday night, where He held out His hand and asked me to "come".....

Today I read this in the book!!

Each time you surrender everything over to Jesus, He opens up heaven's door so you can get a glimpse. This is our hope...He reaches out to us in the middle of our circumstances, letting us know He is ever present, and with His hand reaching out, He says "come to me".

Oh yes, the storm may rage but where He is, there is Peace.
