A Follower of Christ
  
Nobody worries about Christ as long as he can be kept shut up in
churches. He is quite safe inside. But there is always trouble

A Christian……..a follower of Christ……how do you follow Christ? How do you love Christ? Whose will………His will? How do you hear Him when He speaks? Do you hear Him? Do you listen?

Which are you…….one like the woman caught in adultery……..or the prideful scorner hurling stones?

Are you like the humble tax collector who comes before God admitting your brokenness……….or are you like the Pharisee…..better than the broken one?

Are you saved? You know the beginning…….you know the ending…….but what comes between?

What does this mean?
Luk 9:23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

What does it mean to you?

I have to admit, there is nothing easy in being a follower of Christ. It’s easy being saved, easy reading the Bible, going to church, praying but when it comes to actually living our belief and faith……we fail miserably.

Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

I have taken these two verses to heart in a big way. Because being a follower of Christ is sometimes burdensome. Giving up your desires for His desires, asking for His will in your life as opposed to your own….this is not an easy thing. But He equips us, and gives us the strength we need to walk the walk with Him.

Psa 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

When you ask God to create in you a clean heart…….it means sometimes He has to break you down, bring you to your knees……..and it hurts! Coming face to face with God with all your brokenness has got to be one of the most painful things you will ever do….but I can tell you from the depth of my heart that it is the most spirit refreshing thing you will ever do!

The closer you draw to God, the lonlier you feel as a Christian. There is nothing sadder than talking with a fellow believer about the wonders of the Holy Spirit, the amazing grace of God, and they look at you with glazed eyes. I know this because I too once stood with glazed eyes, just “not getting it”. When I talk about listening to His Word while I sleep, or listening to His Word on my IPOD as I walk, other Christians look at me as though I am whacko!

Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

What does that verse mean to you? It means exactly what it says to me.

And if we are mocked for loving God this way……….who is being mocked……is it me………is it God’s work in me……..is it God Himself?

I don't know if you have magpies in your part of the world, but over here they can be downright ugly in the Spring!

See, it's their nesting time and they are very territorial, so if you go anywhere near a tree that has their nest, they will attack you! They are not nice birds!! And they are huge, as big as crows!

On friday, one of the girls at work got swooped on, and this blinkin bird actually attached itself to her head and started pecking.....did I mention they are big birds???? and they have big blinkin beaks too! Well the poor girl was brought to her knees literally, and lucky for her it didn't break any skin on her head. I mean they are big blinkin birds....remember? and they have huge blinkin claws!!!

You know what I just realised? It was those blinkin magpies fault that I had the little incident this morning....yup! See I decided to do my run on a different route to where I usually go....coz where I usually go has a lot of trees, and a lot of magpies....so I am an easy target for a nasty magpie mummy!

Do you have any idea what would happen if a magpie swooped into my head? It could get stuck there for weeks! I have a lot of hair...that blinkin bird would be pecking away like a woody woodpecker! If that ever happened, that blinkin magpie would just have to rot on my head...coz NO ONE is going to chop my hair off! I don't care how much bird poop gets on it.....my hair aint coming off!

Wow.....that's two whines in one day......maybe I need a wine now....and maybe a treadmill for running????

I love going for my run early in the morning, before it's light outside. I love it coz it's quiet and I can spend some quality time with God. I live in a decent neighbourhood and I don't usually feel scared at all.

Today was the exception!

As I was running, I noticed a car heading in my direction, without headlights. I found that odd coz it was still not light enough to be driving even with only parking lights on.

They turned into a driveway ahead of me, but then reversed out and slowly drove away, still ahead of me. I was still not concerned, but then they kept stopping in the middle of the road and then driving off slowly.

When they got to the end of the road, they paused for a long time and I was worried that they were waiting for me to catch up so I turned down a street before the corner. They then drove parallel to me and I was worried that they would come around the block to the street I was walking in. So I thought I would outsmart them and go back to the original street but run away from the direction they were driving.

As I neared the corner, there they were again. I noticed two men in the car. They slowed when they saw me and by this time I was starting to get really bothered. There was no one out on the street and though there were many houses along my route, at that hour people would most likely still be asleep. I was so annoyed at myself coz today of all days I forgot to take my phone with me.

I decided to run in the opposite direction, and after a few seconds they drove off again but turned another corner that would meet me once again. I stayed on the side of the road where I would see them coming coz I didnt want them sneaking up behind me!

I was heading towards my friend Tricia's house so I thought if I saw them again, I would just go to her place. But then I had a brainwave, and decided to backtrack the way I came. I figured they would not be expecting that one! And they didn't obviously!

I ran so fast, I thought I would have a coronary!! I was terrified that they would show up again and follow me home.....praise God I was under HIS PROTECTION!! I made it home safely......amen!!

You know what peeved me? I wasn't dressed in a way to attract any male attention. I was wearing trackydaks and a sweatshirt, my hair was just piled up in a big fat pony tail, I didn't have any make up on, so no one can say I was courting danger. I was just a woman out for her morning run.

I hate it that as a woman I need to be fearful of being alone out there on the street. It sucks!

And that blinkin devil was doing his darndest to make sure my precious time with the Lord was interrupted.

Well that's my whine for the day!

This is my desire, my prayer.......that my trust in Him, my desire for Him exceeds everything else.

Only then, will the things of this world stop hurting. I yearn to be free.....to soar like all those other birds I see flying so much higher than me.

So I spread my wings, take a deep breath....

and climb.....
