A Travel Guide to Heaven by Anthony Destefano Published by Image books (Doubleday) c. 2003

This book was written in the first person, like a letter from him to us so I will write my review in that style also.

----

I really enjoyed this book but felt it could have been much better. He had a lot of important wonderful things to say. I am going to share most of them with you in this review so please read this whole review. About a tenth of this book was a wonderful description of heaven. The rest dealt with side issues. These side issues were often interesting; but they weren’t what I was reading the book for.

---

To give you a flavor of his writing style I want to share some quotes from the book:

---

“Heaven is dynamic. It’s bursting with excitement and action. It’s the ultimate playground, created purely for our enjoyment, by someone who knows what enjoyment means, because HE invented it. It’s Disney World, Hawaii, Paris, Rome and New York all rolled into one. And it is forever!!”

---

“GOD is outrageous!”

---

“Heaven is incredible!”

---

“It’s important that we never underestimate GOD’s desire to make us happy and HIS willingness to do outrageous things to achieve HIS goal” This was in a chapter titled “All dogs go to Heaven” Destefano says that of course our pets will be in heaven. We loved them and we felt love come from them… of course they will be there. In a previous chapter he talked about couples who had been married for many many years. Of course, he said, they will continue to have a special relationship in heaven. And while \bsexo?\b probably won’t be anything like it is here it will be replaced by something far better. We have to trust GOD on this one!

---

“GOD is playful”

---

There is a wonderful chapter on our Guardian Angels entitled “Our Tour Guides”

---

The highlight of heaven is going to be seeing GOD face to face!

---

JESUS “very deliberately transfigured himself before HIS death. In doing so, HE was sending us a message: we don’t have to wait till we are dead to experience the power and glory of heaven” That’s right we can and many of do have heavenly experience here on earth. Those experiences are experience of GOD.

---

Our tickets are paid for. Yup the only way we can get to heaven is through the blood of JESUS. But according to this author in order to claim our tickets we have to live a godly life. This isn’t hard to do; GOD will do it for us if we but ask HIM.

---

“The key to everything is that GOD must be the sovereign of your life. Inviting him into your heart, and then letting that faith infuse every area of your life, is you passport to both earthly and heavenly joy”

---

Heaven is the most outrageously happy place we could ever imagine. Any suffering we experience now, no matter how intense, is completely canceled out by the joy that awaits us

---

Two images this author painted are worth mentioning. 1. Our life here; our service to the kingdom here will determine our capacity to enjoy heaven. But what we will be is two different size cups. Fill them both to the brim. Which is more full? That is right they are both totally full. One will hold 8 oz. the other 4 oz but when they are both full they are both full.

---

The other image was wonderful. GOD will show us each our life. It will all be on one page. We will see it like HE sees it; ie we can see the end from the beginning and vice versa. There will be numerous blood spots… don’t worry about them they are JESUS blood covering our sins. What we will see is how our decisions and our actions led others to JESUS. GOD will explain the pains, the sufferings, why some things seemed to go totally wrong. We will see GOD’s finger in our life and how everything worked together for good.

---

One more thing. When we die we will go to heaven, but until the final judgment, it will be wonderful but it will be partial. We are meant to be body and spirit. During the time between our death and the final judgment we will be just spirit. So as anxious as I am to go to heaven, I am even more looking forward to the final judgment and the reuniting of my spirit and body so I can enjoy fully everything HE has created for us to enjoy.

---

When will this final judgment be? It will be when enough people have accepted JESUS as their LORD to fill heaven. So I am going to live the rest of my life in such a way that I am hopefully/prayerfully making that happen faster.

Advent

Today is the first Sunday of Advent Here is a catholic discription of Advent:

The word for this season is from the Latin adventus meaning coming. It invites us to recognize all comings of Jesus ‒ past, present and future.

The of God was born in Bethlehem more than 2,000 years ago. Through grace, he comes within the hearts of his people day by day. And, finally, as the Christ, Jesus will return in triumph at the second coming. Through Advent, we realize that Christmas is not merely a commemoration of history, but a celebration of salvation

Use Advent’s four weeks as a time of prayer and spiritual renewal. Wonder at God’s everlasting love and his overwhelming gift to each and every one of us: his beloved
.

I am going to increase my formal prayer with the hope that by doing that i will also increase my informal prayer, my practicing HIS constant presence

all for JESUS!!

If you want to go to heaven, go to church.

Many people mistake our work for our vocation. Our vocation is the love of Jesus.

Our life of poverty is as necessary as the work itself. Only in heaven will we see how much we owe to the poor for helping us to love God better because of them.

It is easy to love the people far away. It is not always easy to love those close to us. It is easier to give a cup of rice to relieve hunger than to relieve the loneliness and pain of someone unloved in our own home. Bring love into your home for this is where our love for each other must start.

DEAR JESUS, help me to spread Thy fragrance everywhere I go. Flood my soul with Thy spirit and love. Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly that all my life may only be a radiance of Thine. Shine through me and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel Thy presence in my soul. Let them look up and see no longer me but only Jesus. Stay with me and then I shall begin to shine as you shine, so to shine as to be a light to others.

If you judge people, you have no time to love them.

I love Mother Theresa of Calcutta; even though many many words have been written about her i will probably write a tribute to her later. For now i want to share quotes, one at a time, from her. Here is the first:

"I am a little pencil in the hand of a writing God who is sending a love letter to the world. "

may i add: you can be a pencil in HIS hand also; just give your life totally to HIM.

(i did not take the photo)
