Truth in Scriptures: Part 1 Feb 18, 2009 10:01 am
487 Views
There are so denominations, doctrine and opinions out there in the world. How does one wade through it all and find the "truth", His "truth". I came across and interesting read of ways to discover the truth and how to know what is God's and what is mans word. This is a copy and paste and will have 6 parts. This post is for information to use or discard as you wish.

Truth Detector #1 –Do you have a repentive heart?

Have you ever met a person who is so close-minded and stubborn that their mind can never be changed, even when they're proven wrong? They believe what they believe and they will never change their mind. That is a person who does not have a repentive heart.

Having a heart that is able to repent is the foundation to finding real truth within the Scriptures. Without a repentive heart you’ll miss the truth, even when it stares you straight in the eye. What does it mean to have a repentive heart? Most people look at repentance and think that it means to confess
our sins and turn from them. That’s only part of it, the Greek word for repent is "metanoeô" which means to change one’s mind or change your way of thinking. So not only does repent mean to
change your mind about sin, but it means that when you’re reading the word of God, you repent and change the way you think. You change your thinking from the way you used to think according to this world to what Jesus thinks and acts like according to the Word of God. That’s why Jesus said, “I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish" (Luke 13:5). Jesus says that unless you change your way of thinking, you will perish. If we have a repentive heart, we’ll have a heart and mind that’s always being renewed by the Word of God. (Romans 12:2) do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. If we have that repentive heart, we will not be anchored into a belief that we are not willing to change. The evidence of a repentive heart is that we will always yield to the Word of God and listen to that still small voice.

Scripture says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" (Psalm 119:105). This world that we are traveling through on our way to Heaven is a very dark and evil path. We must let the light of the Word illuminate our way. On this journey there will be many obstacles that we will have to yield
to. There will be potholes, branches, streams, rocks and even bends in the road. If we don’t yield to these obstacles, we’ll either go down the wrong path or be injured along the way. The Word of God, it’s a light unto our path and we must continually change our way of thinking when we read it. If we’re not willing to repent and change our way of thinking as we read the Word of God, then we're not letting the Word light our path we will never find the real truth. If we can't lay down our old way of
thinking about what we've learned in "religion", then we may as well stop right here and read no further.

For those who can set aside their "religion" and what they've been taught by man, in exchange for what God would teach them in His Word, let's continue. “For the word of God is living, and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow (Hebrews 4:12). The Word of God is designed to mold us more and more into the image of Christ. If we don’t have an open heart of repentance we will not be transformed into that image of Christ 2 Cor 3:1.

Treat Me As I Treat My Neighbor Feb 15, 2009 1:04 pm

“Treat Me As I Treat My Neighbor.”
by Max Lucado

Are you aware that this is what you are saying to your Father? Give me what I give them. Grant me the same peace I grant others. Let me enjoy the same tolerance I offer. God will treat you the way you treat others.

In any given Christian community there are two groups: those who are contagious in their joy and those who are cranky in their faith. They’ve accepted Christ and are seeking him, but their balloon has no helium. One is grateful, the other is grumpy. Both are saved. Both are heaven bound. But one sees the rainbow and the other sees the rain.

Could this principle explain the difference? Could it be that they are experiencing the same joy they have given their offenders? One says, “I forgive you,” and feels forgiven. The other says, “I’m ticked off,” and lives ticked off at the world.

It’s as if God sends you to the market to purchase your neighbor’s groceries saying, “Whatever you get your neighbor, get also for yourself. For whatever you give him is what you receive.”

Let’s take this a step further. Suppose your neighbor’s trash blows into your yard. You mention the mess to him, and he says he’ll get to it sometime next week. You inform him that you’ve got company coming and couldn’t he get out of that chair and do some work? He tells you not to be so picky, that the garbage fertilizes your garden. You’re just about to walk across the lawn to have a talk when God reminds you, “Time to go to the market and buy your neighbor’s groceries.” So you grumble and mumble your way to the store, and then it hits you, “I’ll get even with the old bum.” You go straight to the skim milk. Then you make a beeline to the anchovies and sardines. You march right past the double-chocolate ice cream and head toward the okra and rice. You make a final stop in the day-old bread section and pick up a crusty loaf with green spots on the edge.

Chuckling, you drive back to the house and drop the sack in the lap of your lazy, good-for-nothing neighbor. “Have a good dinner.” And you walk away.

All your brilliant scheming left you hungry, so you go to your refrigerator to fix a sandwich, but guess what you find. Your pantry is full of what you gave your enemy. All you have to eat is exactly what you just bought. We get what we give.

Some of you have been eating sardines for a long time. Your diet ain’t gonna change until you change. You look around at other Christians. They aren’t as sour as you are. They’re enjoying the delicacies of God, and you’re stuck with okra and anchovies on moldy bread. You’ve always wondered why they look so happy and you feel so cranky. Maybe now you know. Could it be God is giving you exactly what you’re giving someone else?

A Humble Heart and a Submissive Spirit Feb 9, 2009 8:05 pm

When Jesus walked the earth, he did so in humility and in submission to his Father.

“For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day” (John 6:38-40).

Imagine, if you will, had Jesus not done the will of his Father. Had he not walked in humility. Had he not submitted. Had he not followed when being led by the Spirit. Everything would have been thrown out of whack. He wouldn’t have been raised on the last day, and we wouldn’t have eternal life. We would have no way to the Father and no relationship with our Creator. Jesus knew that there was an important plan in the works and a purpose for God sending him to earth. In obedience, he humbly submitted to his Father

I've been dumped! Feb 9, 2009 4:10 pm
Mood: mischievous, 559 Views
My scammar dude dumped me! Now what am I going to do? He said that he loved me (bank account) for me. Everything was going just great and then wham, he disappeared. All I did is tell him the truth about me. My 10 kids (+ 4 I haven't mentioned), on welfare and living with three other families. Oh yeah, I did mention that the picture was of my cousin and that I actually weighed 315. But if I stay on my diet that I've been on for 10 years, I might look like that one day.

Made you look!

What are some scams that you have seen on this site? Has anyone seen where the person's stated residence is the States but is in another country and found it to be a scam? I may want to have a bit of fun and tell the person about how I'm in desparate need for money to feed my 10 kids.

Praying before dating Feb 5, 2009 5:56 pm

Do you pray to know His will on a relationship before proceeding? Thy will be done....that would include a relationship, right. Jacob had to wait years before he could marry Rachel. The Bible says some will not marry at all. Doesn't sound too good, huh. Especially when committing adultery is a sin. We can't pick and choose when to follow His will and when to follow ours. There is no halfway or only when it is convenient. It's either choosing Him or Satan. Choosing to go against His will is choosing Satan. Choosing to follow Satan only leads to misery and heartache no matter how good it may feel at the moment, it is only short term as he is a lier and a deciever. I choose God.

Why do we pass judgment on others? Feb 4, 2009 2:25 pm
322 Views
Judgment is passed on others when we have hidden sin in our hearts. By paying attention to others flaws and weaknesses, we can ignore our own. Focus on yourself. When passing judgement, look within and find what is unacceptable in yourself, confess it and repent. We all fall short of God's glory.

Does your spirituality hinge on how life treats you? Feb 2, 2009 5:44 pm
364 Views
Simple question to think about. When life treats you bad do you fall away and blame Him? Suddenly life turns around and then your all about singing His praises. God is not some genie in a bottle here to make you comfy cozy. Yes, He will give to those that He chooses but you may not be the one that is chosen. Does that give you second thoughts? The road of a Christian was not promised to be easy. In fact, Jesus said that anyone who wanted to follow Him to deny themselves and pick up their cross. It's not about us, it's about Him.
