Can you treat others with the same love and mercy that God does? Apr 6, 2009 7:12 pm

Not only do we judge other people but we judge ourselves. We hide behind the pretense of imperfection instead of fully confessing our sins and truly repenting. We speak so much of God’s forgiveness, but have we bared all…. or forgiven ourselves? It starts with ourselves before we can move on to others.

So much judging going on...you don't believe in this so you need to leave...you WERE this or that..not the right clothes...don't give enough money to the church, etc. Who gets in...who is left out. Do we have a right to make that call? Maybe that one person that is turned away is the one that God had in mind for YOU to bring to Him. It’s a scary thought that we may not be doing His work.

Really good questions to ask ourselves is this. If we met a pedophile that had done horrible things to many children but God had worked in their heart, would we accept them and look at them as a brother in Christ. How about a murderer?

What denomination do you belong to? Apr 5, 2009 10:56 am

Over and over again this question is brought up when people do not agree with another. Instead of focusing on the topic, denomination is brought in. Why? To call them a cult? And that just about solves everything doesn't it.

I have yet to see a denomination that is not faced with criticism by others in one form or another. Absolutely NONE. My own, Reformed has many and I can't say I agree with them on some points in doctrine. Doctrine aside, their fruits only consist of preaching down to other people. They teach not to really read the Word to put in the heart but to memorize and learn how to fight other denominational doctrine. Where is the teaching about Jesus in all this? Asked a guy the other day, how about giving the person a hand up instead of talking down to them. He looked at me as if I had lost my mind. LOL I have yet to see anyone brought to Christ by their methods, not one. In fact, I've seen that group become what I would call a cult. Exclusive, never going outside their own even to help others, finding more and more reasons to shut out people, any thought different and your out, they even started living together to keep away from the unclean. That group scares me.

Jesus walked with sinners...He helped and healed them, He wasn't exclusive. Cults can be within any denomination.

Let's try and stick to the topics at hand, shall we.

God chose the foolish things of this world to put the wise to shame Apr 3, 2009 6:38 pm

Why does He do this? To prevent anyone from bragging to Him. Sounding wise by trying to use big words or quoting scripture after scripture is not bringing glory to Him but our own self. Jesus used parables to help others understand Him and relate. Speak in ways others can understand instead of proving a point.

If anyone is to boast then it says clearly in the Bible to boast about the Lord.

Hate Apr 2, 2009 8:36 pm

John 15:
18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. 19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. 20 Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. 21 But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloak for their sin. 23 He that hateth me hateth my Father also. 24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.

I'm thinking that it is better to be hated than loved.

Miracles Apr 1, 2009 8:56 pm

I've heard people say that God doesn't perform miracles like He used to. Is that true or are we blinded to them? I worked with children who have Autism and see miracles happen all the time. My class is their last hope (literally) of staying out of a residential facility. Nobody wants them...schools, parent or teachers. Children come to me that are so tormented by their disability that they beat their head and face bloody only to stop within a few short weeks. One who has seen and been through so much that all he knows how to do is fight. Pick up anything he can get his hands on and try to kill, only to turn into the sweetest most loving boy you'd ever want to meet. One who couldn't speak but a few words and now talks in sentences. These changes don't occur in years but weeks or months and these children listed are a small example of many. In no way can I take credit for any of the work that is done in my class...to Him be the glory.

The miracle that you may see could come through you.

Forgiveness Mar 31, 2009 6:55 pm

In reading, a verse in Matthew caught my attention. Sure, it's been read before but this time I really thought about it.

Matthew 6:14
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

Also referenced:

Mark 11:25
And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses

Seems to me that if we hold back any forgiveness of the ones that have wrong us, our sins have not been forgiven. That would include what we have hidden deep in our hearts from years past.

Simon from Cyrene Carries Jesus’ Cross
by Max Lucado

“A man named Simon from Cyrene, the father of Alexander and Rufus, was coming from the fields to the city. The soldiers forced Simon to carry the cross for Jesus” (Mk. 15:21)

Simon grumbles beneath his breath. His patience is as scarce as space on the Jerusalem streets. He’d hoped for a peaceful Passover. The city is anything but quiet. Simon prefers his open fields. And now, to top it off, the Roman guards are clearing the path for some who-knows-which-dignitary who’ll march his soldiers and strut his stallion past the people.

“There he is!”

Simon’s head and dozens of others turn. In an instant they know. This is no dignitary.

“It’s a crucifixion,” he hears someone whisper. Four soldiers. One criminal. Four spears. One cross. The inside corner of the cross saddles the convict’s shoulders. Its base drags in the dirt. Its top teeters in the air. The condemned man steadies the cross the best he can, but stumbles beneath its weight. He pushes himself to his feet and lurches forward before falling again. Simon can’t see the man’s face, only a head wreathed with thorny branches.

The sour-faced centurion grows more agitated with each diminishing step. He curses the criminal and the crowd.

“Hurry up!”

“Little hope of that,” Simon says to himself.

The cross-bearer stops in front of Simon and heaves for air. Simon winces at what he sees. The beam rubbing against an already raw back. Rivulets of crimson streaking the man’s face. His mouth hangs open, both out of pain and out of breath.

“His name is Jesus,” someone speaks softly.

“Move on!” commands the executioner.

But Jesus can’t. His body leans and feet try, but he can’t move. The beam begins to sway. Jesus tries to steady it, but can’t. Like a just-cut tree, the cross begins to topple toward the crowd. Everyone steps back, except the farmer. Simon instinctively extends his strong hands and catches the cross.

Jesus falls face-first in the dirt and stays there. Simon pushes the cross back on its side. The centurion looks at the exhausted Christ and the bulky bystander and needs only an instant to make the decision. He presses the flat of his spear on Simon’s shoulders.

“You! Take the cross!”

Simon dares to object, “Sir, I don’t even know the man!”

“I don’t care. Take up the cross.”

Simon growls, balances the timber against his shoulder, and steps out of the crowd onto the street, out of anonymity into history, and becomes the first in a line of millions who will take up the cross and follow Christ.

He did literally what God calls us to do figuratively: take up the cross and follow Jesus. “If any of you want to be my followers, you must forget about yourself. You must take up your cross each day and follow me” (Lk. 9:23 CEV).

In the chat rooms you can iggy a person if you don't want to read what people have to say. Poof! They no longer exist. This is the first that I've ever been in chat and have grown quite fond of iggy. Wouldn't that be great if we had one in the blogs? I know we can ban people but the blogs show up. Yes, we can just ignore and not read them but then the curiosity gets the best of us. Or at least it gets the best of me.

This is not directed at anyone. Just think it would be a cool feature to have here.
