FOUL LANGUAGE May 4, 2008 5:57 am

If its one thing I can't stand........its women who curse like sailors. On my job, its becoming so bad; that I almost want to stop eating in the break-room. The young women have dirtier mouths than the men, every other word is some sort of foul expletive.

Some of these women are pretty; but as soon as they open their mouths, they become ugly.......very ugly. Its disrespectful to most of the older people, and they've been asked to watch their language.......but to no avail, it continues. Its a real turn-off....to me anyway. Any of you women have any thoughts on the matter ?

" Right is always right, no matter how many may rail against it.

Wrong is always wrong, no matter how many may applaud it. "

We live in a world today in which people, have come to accept what is wrong ( or evil ) as normal ( or good ). If you take a stand for the good you are frowned upon as being intolerant of the feelings and rights of others. Most assuredly this is seen more often when Christians; speak-out against such things as abortion ( including partial birth abortions ), homosexuality, and evolution. Christians are being forced into silence, when in comes to exposing the wickedness of mankind. And the day is coming when Christians can be arrested and put in jail, for standing against wrong.

Wrong is always wrong....... no matter what the majority may think ( or say ).

ATHEIST JOKE Apr 27, 2008 12:24 pm

A young woman teacher with obvious liberal tendencies explains to her class of small children that she is an atheist. She asks her class if they are atheists too. Not really knowing what atheism is but wanting to be like their teacher, their hands explode into the air like fleshy fireworks.

There is, however, one exception. A beautiful girl named Lucy has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different.

"Because I'm not an atheist."

Then, asks the teacher, "What are you?"

"I'm a Christian."

The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Lucy why she is a Christian.

"Well, I was brought up knowing and loving Jesus. My mom is a Christian, and my dad is a Christian, so I am a Christian."

The teacher is now angry. "That's no reason," she says loudly.

"What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was a moron. What would you be then?"

She paused, and smiled. "Then," says Lucy, "I'd be an atheist."

WHAT IS AN EVANGELICAL ? Apr 27, 2008 11:41 am
462 Views
One might think that the term "protestant" has been around a lot longer than "evangelical," the latter often associated with the crusade and television evangelism of recent years. However, the term "evangelical" is the older of the two. It appears in medieval manuscripts, describing a qualification of a good preacher: He must be evangelical. Until the Reformation, however, that adjective could mean anything from having a sincere love for Christ to possessing missionary zeal. When Luther arrived on the scene he was eager to employ the time-honored term in the service of gospel recovery. After all, what could be more appropriate as a designation for a man or woman of the Reformation? It was all about a recovery of the evangel itself.

Thus, the term took on a new significance, moving from an adjective to a noun. One was not only "evangelical" in the ambiguous medieval sense of being pious, zealous, and faithful, but an evangelical in the sense that one adhered to the Reformation's tenets. After 1520 an evangelical was a person who was committed to the sufficiency of scripture, the priesthood of all believers, the total lostness of humans, the sole mediation of Christ, the gracious efficacy and finality of God's redemptive work in Christ through election, propitiation, calling and keeping. The linchpin for all of this was the doctrine of justification by grace alone, through faith alone, because of Christ alone. Thus, the believer, declared righteous by virtue of God's satisfaction with Christ's holiness imputed (credited) to us through faith alone, is simul iustus et peccator--"simultaneously justified and sinful."

The evangelicals, therefore, whether Lutheran or Reformed, insisted that this was the gospel. It was not a peripheral area of abstract doctrinal debate on which Christians could "agree to disagree agreeably." It was not merely an implication of the gospel or a part of the gospel: It was the gospel! It was this message and no other, be it ever so similar, that everyone had to get right. On other matters Christians of goodwill might differ, but without the distinction between a gospel of works and a gospel of grace alone, Luther wrote, one cannot distinguish a Christian from a Muslim or Jew. Calvin's successor in Geneva, Theodore Beza, wrote, "Ignorance of this distinction between Law and Gospel is one of the principal sources of the abuses which corrupted and still corrupt Christianity."3

Theologians and historians to the present have referred to the formal and material principle of the Reformation, the former being the sufficiency of scripture, and the latter being the doctrine of justification by grace alone through faith alone. As the formal principle of the Reformation is "scripture alone!," we today must define "evangelical" according to scriptural teaching. If the reformers misinterpreted the Bible on any one of these key teachings, they must be corrected by those same scriptures. However, historically, the term "evangelical" has referred to those who embraced either the Lutheran or the Reformed confessions of faith. Only in the gradual Americanization of the evangelical faith has this inheritance been jettisoned, as though "scripture alone" meant that to merely adhere to the formal principle of the Reformation was enough. As long as one believed the Bible, one could stand wherever he or she liked on the material principle of God's method in saving sinners. If this were true, one would have to concede to the Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses membership in the National Association of Evangelicals.

There are two ways of dealing with this question of defining "evangelical": scriptural and historical, but in this brief space allow me to focus on the argument that this term ought to be defined and used in its historical, time-honored sense. While the Reformation may, theoretically, have erred on its chief doctrines (since only scripture is infallible), it is nevertheless unavoidably true that those who called themselves evangelicals have historically affirmed and defended those teachings as being biblical. Thus, historically speaking, those who do not affirm those doctrines are, by virtue of the law of non-contradiction, not evangelicals.

GOOD & BAD NEWS Apr 25, 2008 9:55 pm
Mood: 28, 659 Views
Yesterday I had to go to the Solicitor's Office, to see about getting my son out of jail, and into an in-care patient facility. The prosecutor, read my letter and decided to let my son out; without me having to pay the bond. I went to court today, and the papers were signed, and I was told to pick up my son at about 1:00 PM. Thats the good news.

However, when I went to pick my son up, I had to wait a little longer. When I looked up and saw my son, my countenance fell. Someone had beaten the crap out of him, just before he was released. I asked my son what happened, and he said, " I got in a fight ". I asked the people working behind the desk, what had happened. No one knew. I saw a supervisor, and was told the fight started, because my son didn't clean the cell. I told the supervisor that I wanted a copy of the incident report, and they said I couldn't have it.

When we left, I asked him about cleaning the cell. What happened was that one of his cell mates told my son to clean the cell. My son said no, because they are suppose to take turns. This guy didn't want to take his turn, so when they went into the cell, and the door closed, he sucker punched my son and began to beat him viciously. No guard ever saw what was going on. When the guy finished beating on my son then he called the guards.

When they took my son to the medical department, they cleaned the blood off of him, and took his blood pressure. That was it. All this happened, just before his release. I had to take my son to the emergency room for treatment. I plan to find out who the inmate is and press charges against him. I was hoping to get my son out of jail, before something like this happened. Looks like the Lord had other plans. My son is now in an inpatient care facility. Please continue to pray for him.

DEATH OF AN ICON Apr 17, 2008 8:12 pm

Sad news! The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday. It appears that a bad yeast infection, and blunt force trauma from repeated pokes in the belly, may have lead to his demise. He was 71.

Doughboy was put to rest, in a lightly greased bread pan. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects. The quest included, the well known Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, The California Raisins, Betty Crocker, The Hostess Twinkies, Captain Crunch, Mr & Mrs Eggo; just to name a few. The grave site was piled high with whole wheat flours.

Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy, and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew; how much he was kneaded. Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later years; were filled with many turnovers. He was not considered a very smart cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times, he still was a crusty old man, and was considered a positive roll model for millions.

Doughboy is survived by his wife Play Dough, two children, John Dough and Jane Dough, plus there's a bun in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart. The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes. He will be warmly missed.

RECONCILING SCRIPTURE Apr 16, 2008 8:31 pm
Mood: 37, 2050 Views
Its important that with any study of Scripture, we should learn to reconcile passages; that may appear to be in opposition to each other. Its easy to lineup a string of verses, in an attempt to prove a particular notion; such as insisting that Christians must keep the Law, and then quoting the Ten Commandments. While not being able to reconcile; those passages which clearly teach, that the believer has been freed from the Law. Whenever this approach is used, you end up running into problems, trying to reconcile scripture as having unity of thought. What some do, in order to try and get around; or escape the problem, is say something like " The Bible teaches both ideas. "

There are times, when some people actually ignore certain passages, altogether because they can't, explain why there appears to be a contradiction of thought. Others will insist, when they are confronted by certain passages, that the person who brings their attention, to such passages; is twisting the text. Rather than take an objective look at the text in question, they'll start squirming, and wiggling because they don't have an answer; while accusing others of not understanding the Bible.

One thing that is helpful, in being able reconcile such passages, is to realize that the Bible never teaches two opposing ideas. For example, many here believe, that Christians can loose their salvation. If I quote what Jesus said about giving His sheep eternal life, and that His sheep will never perish. Someone will inevitably refer to a verse that talks about what happens to unbelievers, and apply that to the sheep. Not realizing that the two passages in question are talking about two different kinds of people.

This can easily be seen with the misunderstanding of keeping the law ( or several other types of commands ). The mistake often made, is to assume that because God commands something, that man must be able to do it; or else why would God command us to do it ? I've shared this example before, and I'll gladly share it again. In the Book of Duet, God commands Israel, to circumcise their hearts.

" Therefore circumcise the foreskin of your heart, and be stiff-necked no longer. "Duet. 10:16

Here we have a command which clearly no one in all of Israel could perform, yet there it is. How did the LORD expect anyone to be able to perform this task ? If given a knife would they even know where to begin cutting ? Yet some would insist that since God commanded it; the Jews must have been able to perform it. In His grace God made a way to fulfill this command for Israel, and He promised to undertake the task all by Himself.

" And the LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the heart of your descendants, to love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, that you may live. "Duet. 30:6

Now, if you ignore the second reference in order to prove that man is capable of freely doing what God commands, then you do an injustice to the doctrine of grace. One text doesn't cancel out the other; but one text explains how the other is accomplished. This is how scripture is reconciled, one verse shows the command; while the other explains how the command is carried out ( or fulfilled ). Scripture always explains itself ( if we don't try to force a different meaning onto it ).

This can also be seen in the teachings of Christ concerning those who come to Him.

" Then Jesus declared, " I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. " John 6:35

Jesus was speaking to people who were disciples, yet who had not truly believed. As He continued to teach these people they became offended, and began to murmur; at what He was teaching. Then jesus says something odd.

" Stop murmuring among yourselves," Jesus answered. " No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day. " John 6:43-44

Here again, if you ignore the second reference in hopes of proving that man is capable of freely coming to Christ, then you again do an injustice to the grace of God. The first text isn't proving that man is capable of freely coming to Christ, anymore than with the command for Israel to circumcise their heart, proves they could do it. Jesus gives the command to come, as well as explain how we are given the ability to come to Him.

Thats how to reconcile scripture. Give Him the glory.....He alone is due it.

WHAT DO YOU THINK Apr 14, 2008 7:32 am

Whenever you post a subject on your blog, those who view ( read ) it; have the option of voting. They get three choices, agree, neutral and disagree. I can't help but notice, that some people will vote for themselves. Its apparent that no one else agrees; with them but them. Dennis is good for doing that, every comment he makes; he'll vote for what he said.

Then you get the people who vote " I disagree " no matter what certain people post ( like me ), even when I haven't said anything which requires a vote, like welcome to BC. This shows a subjective contempt for the individual, no matter what is said by them; rather that an honest objective response. What's up with that ?

" To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presents without fault and with great joy. " Jude 24

Its great to realize; that it is God who keeps us from falling and not we ourselves.

' to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authorty, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.

He alone is God and Savior...... Who saves and keeps those He saves.... saved. Glory to God in the highest.

FOLLOW-UP ON MY SON Apr 4, 2008 8:20 pm

After going to the doctors, and getting x-rays done........the doctor said my jaw wasn't broken ( or fractured ), and my younger son didn't brake his hand. That was good news. As for my older son.....he is still in jail. His bond was set at $5000.00 ( you only have to pay 10% ), but I can't pay it. I'm waiting to speak with his attorney, to see if I can get the bond removed; and have my son go into an inpatient care facility. So he may get proper treatment.

I think my son expected to be bonded out, but I don't think he really understood what the judge was asking him about being able to post bond. It takes 72 hrs to be processed in the jail ( why so long ? ), and I haven't been able to explain what's going on. I was planning to see him today; but he didn't get finished processing until 12 midnight. inmates are only allowed one visit a week, with no weekends visits. My son went through a similar situation, when he was 17; but was only in jail for three days. This stay looks to be much longer, and his hearing isn't until May 5th. I hope to get him out before then and into a care facility. Please pray to that end. Thank you all.
