THE GREATEST HERESY Jul 20, 2006 8:20 pm
276 Views
It was Charles Trumble, who said, " The greatest heresy ever to plague the Christian church. Is Christians trying to live the Christian life. "

So, how do Christians fall prey to this heresy. Usually by attempting to obey the law ( The Ten Commandments ), because they either don't understand what Christ has accomplished for us; or they just can't accept the fact, that Christ did it all ( all that is necessary for our salvation ). Usually because some false teacher has convinced them; that this must be done ( keeping the law ), in order to please God.

" I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard ? Are you so foolish ? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain perfection by human effort ?Gal. 3:2-3

Even though Paul clearly teaches us, not to turn to human effort in an attempt to attain perfection. Some people just don't get it and continue to insult God ( it's like spiting in His face ), by rejecting the Atonement made by Christ; the Atonement that can never have anything added to it. Done once and never needs repeating.

" I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing !
Gal. 2:21

ARE YOU GUILTY OF COMMITTING THIS HERESY ?

NEVER ENDING LOVE Jul 18, 2006 2:49 pm

" neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. "Rom. 8:39

So then, how do those who teach that Christians; can loose their salvation explain this text ? They can't. But in an attempt to prove their position; they will run to a text like Heb. 6: 4-6, and twist it; only to make God appear to be schizophrenic. Any serious student of the Bible; won't fall for this ploy of satan, which robs those who believe this lie; of ever knowing true peace with Christ our Savior.

We who are in Christ have the assurance of God's unending love for us. It's known as agape ( love ). It's the love God has for those who belong to Christ, which were given to Him ( the Son ) by the Father. It's a love that never changes, and that can never be undone; not by God, nor by us or anything else in all creation. Praise God, who is rich in His love and mercy toward us ( who believe and know the truth ). Amen !!!!

GOD'S SOVEREIGNTY AND MAN'S RESPONSIBILITY Jul 14, 2006 2:48 pm

God is Sovereign and man is responsible.

Many people have a hard time trying to reconcile these two points, and to be honest about it, you can't; other than to say what I said. You made mention of man being like robots; or puppets if we are not free to love God. I'd like to say that we as humans hate God and want nothing to do with him. Before God saves us we are like our father the devil, and just as God has a first commandment; to love the LORD your God with all your heart, mind and soul. And the second is, And to love your neighbor as you love yourself.

Satan's first and most important commandment is: You shall hate the LORD your God with all your heart, mind and soul. And the second is, And you shall hate your neighbor as you hate yourself.

Now, not even we who are the saved ( regenerated ) can obey His command to love Him perfectly. But sadly the un regenerated obey Satan's commandments perfectly. We are commanded to love God, and we are responsible if we fail to obey what is commanded. What is so wonderful is that God ( who set the standard for Holiness ) sent His Son to meet the standard for us. We are all incapable of loving God or anyone else; unless He loves us first. I John 4:10

" This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins."

God's covenant's in scripture; are always one-way covenant's. They are never dependant on man's ability or co-operation; but rather on God promise. That is, He commands us to do a thing, knowing we can't do it. Then He promises to do the very thing He has commanded us to do, for us. Mercy !! Case in point, God commanded Israel to circumcise their hearts ( Deut. 10:6 )but as we read on; and understand what the Bible says elsewhere on this matter we see, that God is the one; who will perform the needed surgery ( Deut. 30:6 ).

" The LORD your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your decedents, so that you may love him and with all your heart and with all your soul, and live.

So, there we have an example of man's responsibility ( God commanded Israel to circumcise their hearts ) and God's sovereignty ( God is the one who truly has to do it ). Any questions ?

EYE OF A NEEDLE Jul 11, 2006 9:09 am

Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."Matt. 19:24

What is Jesus talking about in this text ? Is he talking about a mere difficulty or the actual impossibility of men being saved ?

CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG ? Jul 9, 2006 12:17 pm

Rodney King uttered these words, after his unpleasent run-in with the police. He became famous ( and rich ) because of the incident, and couldn't seem to stay out of trouble with the police. While this may be a nice sentiment ; that we all just get along, it is not necessarily a true sentiment. In this world; we are faced with many different cultures, religions, and people. Some actually think their culture is better than everyone else, when in fact it's not better; its just different. Others think they belong to a superior race, when in fact there is only one race ( the human race ).

Throughout history mankind has been at each others throats, for one reason or the other. So, what has wanting everybody to just get along, have to do with religion ? Can all of the religions of the world get along ? Will there ever be a time when all religions will become as one ? Some seem to think, that no matter what; peace is the most important thing for the Christian Church. We are to put aside all doctrinal differences, and anything that causes division, and or debate. But are we as Christians to set aside what the word of God teaches for the sake of peace ?

If this were the case the Apostle Paul would not have told us, to put on the full armor of God ( Eph. 6: 11 ), after all one does not dress in battle gear to go to an amusement park. The devil is quite cunning, and never stops with his relentless scheams; to talk a soldier out of the battle by making him ( the soldier ) think he is at peace and not a war. What's sad is that the battle is not just being fought outside the church, it is also being fought in the church. For satan has infultrated the church of Christ with false teachers and spies.

Things are no different here at BigChurch, we have true Christians and we have fake Christians. We also have people of other religious beliefs here. So, whenever a Christian proclaims biblical truths, someone is bound to get upset; because what they believe is being exposed as error. I've noticed that whenever an error is exposed; it's the person who believes the error, who gets upset and starts with the name calling.

There will always be debates ( arguements ); this side of the resurrection, and we must all keep in mind that there is a right way, and a wrong way to debate a subject. When you start comparing others, with the likes of Hitler for example; because they are teaching truth, which you disagree with; that's a wrong way. When you resort to name calling; than the person you call a name; might call you a name; then you have a fight.

" Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God. But some of them became obstinate; they refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way. So Paul left them. " Acts 19 :8-9

Paul argued ( debated ) effectively; he was persuasive ( he knew how to argue ), when he presented the truth of the kingdom. Some believed while others became hard. Paul's bebating lasted for three months; if God didn't like the way Paul was presenting His truth, why did God do extraordinary miricals through him ?

THE QUESTION OF EVIL I Jul 8, 2006 9:18 am

I'm sure we are all somewhat familiar, with the story of Joseph and his brothers; as recorded for us in the book of Genesis. Joseph's brothers were jealous of him; and at one point even conspired to kill him. Instead of killing him they sold him into slavery, and they clearly had evil intentions for their brother. I'm also sure you've heard someone say somthing like, " If God is good why did He allow my mother to die from cancer. "

Just how involved is God with evil ? Or is he even involved at all ?

The history of Joesph; is a clear example of just how involved God is with evil. He is the Lord over evil ( not the Lord of evil ) and we must make a distinction between evil, and sin; when looking at this subject.

" Joseph said to them, " Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God ? But as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. "Gen. 50:19-20

Joseph understood how God worked; through the evil act of his brothers, to save Isreal in the time of famine. Joseph believed in the absolute sovereignty of God, over the affairs of men. Does that make him a Calvinist ?

SIMPER FI Jul 8, 2006 7:50 am

The U.S. Marines adopted as their motto" Semper Fidelis ", from the Latin; which means ALWAYS FAITHFUL. Though the Marines may put up a good fight ( kick some butt ), they do at times lose the battle ( get their butts kicked ), and advance in the opposite direction ( retreat ).

We however serve a God who is truely ALWAYS FAITHFUL, He never retreats, never gives-up, never breaks a promise.

" If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself. "2 Tim. 2:13

God is always faithful ( unlike man ), in all of His promises. When He says He will save us; we can depend on Him to keep all of His promises concerning salvation ( or anything else He promises ). He will not send us away, drop us, lose us or; allow us to " jump out " of His hand. When we think it is possible for Christians to loose their salvation; we are not trusting God, and we are calling Him a promise breaker. God is not like man; that He should lie. God's covenant with us is a one way covenant, He does it all; we never make any contribution to it.

" being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of christ Jesus. " Phil. 1:6

I'm glad to serve a God who is faithful. A God I can trust to keep His promises. Amen !!!

WHY DOES GOD LOVE YOU ? Jun 27, 2006 8:48 am

In light of what Paul tells us in Rom. 9: 13, about God loving Jacob and hating Esau, and before they were born or had done anything good or bad. Why do you suppose God loved you ?
Because you accepted Jesus as your personal Lord and Saviour.
Because you believe in the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ.
Because you go to church every Sunday.
Doesn't He love everybody ( John 3:16 ) ?
Because you follow all of the rules.
I don't know why He loves me, I'm just thankful that he does.
