The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning
Commentary..

My confession:

I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are: Christmas trees.

It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, 'Merry Christmas' to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it. It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu . If people want a crïeche, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period. I have no idea where the concept came from that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.

In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking.

In light of recent events... terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK. Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said OK.

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.'

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says. Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

Are you laughing yet?

Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it.

Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.

Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not then just discard it..... no one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in.

I don't know how well any of you have been paying attention; but hasn't McCain been saying that the economy is fine " The fundamentals of the U.S. economy are still strong ". I was wondering just how long it would be; before he would stop with the charade of a " stable economy ", even in the face of financial disaster.

Obama was correct when he stated that McCain was " Out of touch, with the facts ". I listen to a lot of conservative " Talk Radio " and the host of these talk shows, are just as out of touch as McCain is. They deny we're in a recession, blaming the democrats for everything ( even though we've had a Republican president for eight years, and Republican run house and senate ). One of them likes to refer to anyone, who complains about the economy as " Stuck on stupid ", because they don't know what they're talking about. The economy is just fine according to them.

But low and behold the " Chickens have come home to roost ", or " The snake is out of the bag ". Now, McCain says " We won't let this happen again ". What !!!! Its a little too late for that now, and why didn't he see this coming ? I saw it, and I don't have a team of experts advising me. Where was all of that experience, McCain is suppose to have ? Why when Obama was saying that the Republicans, have lead us into a failed economic plan ( more like disaster ), was McCain ( and all those talk show host ) in denial ?

Another thing. All of those talk shows have a habit of saying that the democrats only want to take us into " Socialism " by making government bigger. So what is Socialism ? World Book says:

" System of social organization in which property and the distribution of income are subject to social control rather than individual determination or market forces. "

That sounds like a pretty good representation of what just happened last week.

“ To each according to his need ” is the cry of the socialist. Whose needs were taken care of by the " Bail out " of these failing institutions ? We're being told that it will help the tax payer ( who is being driven deeper into debt ). But how ? Why should average Americans be put on the hook; because of the greedy crooks, who ran these failing companies ? We're being told that if the government hadn't stepped in, people wouldn't have been able to use their credit cards. Imagine that!! Not being able to charge anything. I've always believed that during the " Cold War ", when Russia's economy failed, the only thing that was keeping the U.S. afloat was " Plastic "( or Debt ) the infamous credit card; which most Americans can't seem to live without.

The chickens are indeed coming home to roost, but will the American people wake up, to the fact; that McCain is out of touch ?

When Jesus was crucified, He became the Atoning sacrifice for all of the sins, of all who believe. If you are now saved, were your sins ( which He has Atoned for ), and you had not yet committed.......

During the days of slavery ( in the U.S. ) there was a phrase, used by the slaves, which depicted being sold deeper into the south, where it became almost hopeless of ever becoming free. The phrase was " Sold down the river ", if you've ever read the book ( by Mark Twain ) or seen the movie " Puddin Head Wilson "; you may remember reading the phrase, or hearing it being used in the movie. I won't go into the plot of the book ( for those who may not have read it ); but I will say that one of the characters ( who thought he was caucasian ) sold his mother ( a house slave ) down the river.

I refer to this phrase because thats how I'm feeling about President Bush's decision, to bailout Freddie mac, and Fannie Mae. Does anyone understand how this is going to effect us tax paying citizens ? Will there be an investigation into those behind this failure, and will anyone go to prison ? Why should the CEO's of these companies be paid millions of dollars, while investors stand to lose it all ? This is going to add about another $1300.00 to the $33,000.00 ( we each owe ) as part of the growing debt. I haven't heard McCain or Obama; even suggest anything about holding someone responsible.

I wonder, Is one forth coming ;or will more of these culprits go free ? I sure feel like I've been " Sold Down the River " What about you ?

What happens when Christians sin ?
They have to perform pennants.
They walk in darkness.
They fall out of fellowship with God.
They must rededicate their lives to Christ.
Their sins are forgiven.
God disciplines them.

They lose their salvation, and have to start over again.
I don't know, I haven't sinned since being saved.

What topics being discussed here at BC, have just left you feeling sick; to the extent, you could puke, Day after day the same thing..... predestination & free-will, election & foreknowledge, grace or works. when will it stop ?

Predestination
Did God create evil ?
God is a gentleman.
Christians can lose their salvation.
Grace
You must keep the law.
You must repent and be baptized to be truly saved.
Christians can be demon possessed.
All the above.

St. Peter answered, "Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie-Clock.

Every time you lie the hands on your clock will move."

"Oh," said the man, "whose clock is that?"

"That's Mother Teresa's. The hands have never moved, indicating
that she never told a lie."

"Incredible," said the man". And whose clock is that one?"

St. Peter responded, "That's Abraham Lincoln's clock. The hands
have moved twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his entire life."

"Where's President Bush's clock?" asked the man.

"Bush's clock is in Jesus' office.

He's using it as a ceiling fan.

On a previous post, I asked the question " Just How many ? ". The question dealt with, how many times can a person be saved. The obvious answer of course is ONCE. Yet even though some people voted once ( meaning you can only be saved once ), they still believe " Once saved, always saved " is a false teaching, or worse still; that the Bible also teaches " Once saved, you could be re-lost "( the notion that the Bible teaches both views ).

I'm afraid that there are many people here at BC, whose hope is in the wrong thing ( mainly themselves ), and they haven't really come to faith, in Christ alone for their salvation.

" a faith and knowledge resting on the hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the beginning of time "

The word HOPE in our English dictionaries means: aspiration, desire, wish, ambition, aim, or goal. However, the use of the word HOPE in the Biblical context, doesn't mean wishful thinking or a mere desire for something. Instead, the word HOPE in the Christian context is based upon , the certain outcome which is grounded in the finished redemptive work of Christ.

Get that ? THE FINISHED REDEMPTIVE WORK OF CHRIST !!

Groups like the so-called Seventh Day Adventist, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, are clearly off track when it comes to understanding what true HOPE is. But there are also many other groups; that are closer to home, which also have no real understanding of the Christian's HOPE. These other groups; are actually just as guilty, of teaching a hopeless form of Christianity as the cult groups are.

God's Love endures FOREVER, says the psalmist David ( Ps. 118: 29 ) and the Apostle Paul agrees, when he says there is nothing that can separate us from the love of God ( Rom. 8: 35-39 ).For those who say they believe in Christ; but think they can be re-lost ( never to be saved again ); are committing the shameful act, of counting the death of Christ as an unholy thing, who deliberately keep sinning ( by trying to top what Christ has already done ) working at keeping the law, and laying a foundation of dead works. ( see the Book of Hebrews ).

Suggesting that if its true, that all of the believers sins have been forgiven ( past, present, and future ), then the Christian can just go on sinning; proves that these people have no real sense of the doctrine of salvation, sanctification, eternal life, grace or mercy. After all, if Eternal life can be stopped ( or altered in any way ); then it wasn't really Eternal to begin with.

Wake up people!!

I'm going to have to let my internet service be shut off for a while, I can no longer afford it. My bill has gotten out of hand. Hopefully I'll be able to return soon. I feel I have made some good friends here, and thank the Lord, for the opportunity to share my teaching abilities ( even though many would disagree ), with so many people around the world. No, if and when I return; it won't be as some one else ( no secret agenda ).

I will miss you all, and may the LORD bless you with a richer understanding of His grace, which is only through His Son.
