" to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,

Who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. "

Do you believe your salvation is really incorruptible ?

CONTENDING FOR THE FAITH Apr 30, 2007 7:50 pm

" Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,

and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God. "
PHIL 1:27

Since first becoming a member here at BigChurch I've addressed the importance of submitting to the Word of God; rather than taking our preconceived ideas to the Bible and reading things into the text. I've also pointed out on a previous post the continuity of thought found scripture, and that there are no contradictions or two different ideas on the doctrine of salvation.

In Phil. 1:27 Paul tells us to stand fast in one spirit having one mind, striving together for the faith of the gospel. Paul doesn't say that we are to strive as two or even three spirits; with two or three minds, striving for two or three faiths preaching two or three gospels. We are to strive together as one, having one mind. So, what does that mean ?

Let's say I share the gospel with someone on my job; I'll call him Tim. I tell him of the grace of God and how Christ died so that he can have forgiveness for all of his sins, past, present, future and receive eternal life. Tim rejoices to hear the good news. I also tell Tim to read the Gospel of John. Now, let's say a couple of days later someone else approaches Tim and also begins to tell him about Christ. He also tells Tim about Jesus' death and the forgiveness of sins, but this time the message is a little different.

Instead of the assurance of the forgiveness of all of his sins ( like I had explained ) and the sure promise of eternal life; this other person tells Tim; that even though Jesus died for his sins; he must be careful or he could lose his salvation and tells Tim to read 2 Peter the second chapter. Did the second person who spoke to Tim have the same mind, was he striving for the same faith of the gospel as I ? No ! What this other person has done, is bring a different spirit and a different gospel. Tim is now confused; because he heard two professing Christians tell him two different things.

As Christians we should all be sharing the same gospel message, having the same mind and the same purpose because we are all indwelt by the same Spirit........hopefully.

WHERE IS YOUR SALVATION KEPT ? Apr 30, 2007 10:08 am

With all of the talk going on here at BigChurch about Christians loosing their salvation I'd like to ask:

Where do you believe your salvation is being kept ?

Give a scriptural answer.
I must keep it myself.
I keep it, with a little help from God.
God keeps it, in heaven for me.
I didn't know it had to be kept by anybody.
I believe it's kept by God; but I can give it up.
Other. Please explain.

No! A Christian cannot lose his ( or her ) salvation, and no you can't give it up either. It is impossible for this to take place, because of all of the promises God makes; to His people which cannot be broken. Satan wants us to believe that God doesn't keep His promises..........which is a lie!

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

I John 5:11,12

The life God gives us ( those who believe and know the truth ) is not in us ( not a matter of our flesh ) it is rather in the Son, a matter of what He has done for us; those who know and obey the truth. If you don't have the Son, then you don't have life and all of your religious deeds won't help you. Once you've come to the Son ( by faith ) you must cease from your feeble attempts to please the Father ( which no one can do ); without actually trusting in the Son for eternal life. This gift is totally free ( for us ), yet Christ has paid the debt which we could never pay.

All who rely on observing the law are under a curse ( Gal. 3:10 ), and clearly no one is justified before God by keeping the law. The righteous will live by faith, and the law is not based on faith.
Those who teach contrary to this truth; are liars, and will pay the ultimate price for their deception.

PASTORS AND SECULAR WORK Apr 18, 2007 8:58 pm

Today many pastors rely on their congregation for financial support. Members are required to pay tithes; in order to meet the pastors salary demands. Some pastors are paid outrageous salaries, and live in lavish homes; drive luxury automobiles and some even own a private jet. Do you think pastors should work in order to support themselves; or do you believe the flock is responsible to pay his bills ?
No, a pastor shouldn't have a secular job, the members of his church should pay him.
Yes, a pastor should have a secular job, why should he be a burden on his members.
Isn't that what tithes are for ? To pay the pastor's salary.
I'm not sure, so I just pay my tithes.
I give to the building fund in order to help maintain the building, not the pastor.
Pastor's have eat too, don't they.

CONTINUITY OF THOUGHT Apr 16, 2007 3:16 pm

" He writes the same way in all of his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.

Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position.
2 Pet. 3:16,17

The Bible is truly an amazing book. It is the only written revelation given by God to man; that takes us from the beginning of history ( creation ); to the end of history ( the destruction of earth by fire ). It contains 66 books, written by about 40 different men, yet it reads as though it were written by one person; having continuity of thought, purpose and scope, with one major theme.

Yet, as Peter points out; that ignorant and unstable people distort scripture. How does this happen ? It happens when people treat the Bible; as though it were just like any other book. A book that they can manipulate like putty, in order to achieve their own meaning. When you and I read a mystery novel we can come to different views on the plot and story line; but that is not true when it comes to understanding God's Holy inspired Word. There are several ways in which this is done.

1. Rationalism: Comes in two forms they can be either extreme or moderate. The extremist denies the possibility of any supernatural revelation. The moderate may admit the possibility of supernatural revelation; but makes the human mind the final judge of such revelation.

2. Romanism: Scripture is the product of the church, and therefore instead of Scripture being the final authority; the church is.

3. Mysticism: Experience is just as authoritative as scripture, and can be used along with the Bible to determine truth.

4. Neo-orthodoxy: The Bible is fallible having been written by men and therefore may contain the Word of God ( but is not necessarily the Word of God ); while it also can become the Word of God; to you ( if you think it is ).

5. Cults: The Bible along with the writings of the particular cult leader ( writer ) have equal authority .

What is it; that all of these approaches have in common ? They all determine what the the truth is. Instead of the Bible being the final judge of what is true; each of these approaches have taken the authority away from the Bible, and placed it in man's hands. This is where the problem of private interpretation comes into play. The mystic for example will say, " I had an experience, and my experience determines what is true. " This can include ( but is not limited to ) such things as speaking in tongues. " I know its real because; it happened to me. "

What I'm going to attempt to do, is to expose some of the ways in which people use one ( or more ) of the above approaches toward scripture. The following is but one example.

" He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners.

It contained all kinds of four footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air.

Then a voice told him, " Get up, Peter. Kill and eat. "

" Surely not, Lord! Peter replied. " I have never eaten anything impure or unclean. "

The voice spoke to him a second time, " Do not call anything impure that God has made clean. "
Acts 10:11-15

This text is one of a few ( there are only a few of this type ), which have what is called " a double application ", not two interpretations, nor is it a contradiction of what scripture teaches elsewhere. So, how do we know this text has a double application ? We know, not because I say it does; but because scripture explains itself. Now it's clear from the text; that God told Peter to eat what had been considered unclean; because He had made it clean. This is consistent with what scripture says elsewhere, about eating anything that flies, crawls, swims, or wiggles.

Now, here is where those who are ignorant come into play. If you as a Christian, have come to understand this truth, the ignorant ( those being prompted by the devil ); will say to you, " No ! You have to read what the Bible says, in the Book of Leviticus ( Lev. 11: 1-47 ), in order to find out; what you are allowed eat. " What that person has just done; is pit the Bible against itself, making it appear to be contradicting itself ( as if it were teaching two conflicting ideas ), and as stated above this sort of thing happens only if we make ourselves the final authority, of what is truth; rather than letting scripture be the final authority.

This type of inappropriate approach to the Word of God takes place, with various doctrines. It can include anything from baptism to salvation and everything in between. It leads to various interpretations; where actually there is only one. Next I'll show several ways in which this is done, and attempt to show that the Bible doesn't teach two conflicting views, on any subject it addresses.
