THE CLEAN AND UNCLEAN....... OR LIP SERVICE

On one occasion, the Pharisees and teachers of the law came to Jesus, and questioned Him about His disciples breaking the tradition of the elders. Why ? Because they ( the disciples ) ate with unwashed hands. The discourse which followed; was one that revealed more than the teachers of the law cared to hear. BUT JESUS SAID IT ANYWAY.
As Jesus began to teach, He exposed the hypocrisy of the teachers of the law; who were more concerned, with the traditions of the elders, rather than keeping the commands of God. They were more concerned with projecting a form of righteousness ( which was only for show ); rather than actually being righteous.
Jesus said of them:
" He replied, " Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written:
These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules made by men.
You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men. "
Jesus continued by addressing the fifth commandment, and showed that the teachers of the law had violated it, by using doran ( corban ) a gift vowed to God, as a way of neglecting the care of their parents. All one had to do was call for this pronouncement ( or vow ) and others ( including parents ) were barred from the benefits of any property. The rabbis ( of that day ) declared such vows, as binding. Even if it denied the parents of required support.

THE RECONCILING OF ROM. 2:13 AND ROM. 3:20
|

Ok....Now I'm going to show the law peddlers how to reconcile Rom. 2:13 with Rom. 3:20.
But before I do, I need to explain why its so important to follow the progression of any particular subject in the Bible. There are two types or methods used, when it comes to preaching and teaching; the Word of God. One is called " Devotional preaching " and the second is called " Expository preaching ". A devotional sermon doesn't take much time to prepare. You simply pick a verse ( sometimes more ), and with practically no serious study of the text, bring a devotional message. Devotional preachers jump from subject to subject ( and verse to verse ) maybe being in the Book of Revelation one Sunday and in the Book of Ruth the next. Every Sunday you hear a different sermon; from a different book of the Bible. The problem with this kind of teaching ( or preaching ) is, that its easy to take any verse ( or passage ) out of context. I'm not saying that devotional preaching is necessarily bad, its just not the best.
On the other hand " Expository preaching " takes much more preparation time. An expository preacher generally teaches through an entire book of the Bible; starting with the first verse, in the first chapter of the book; until he gets to the end of that book. Every sermon is a continuation of the previous weeks sermon. Most expository preachers, will only advance one to three verses per week. It takes much more time to prepare ( and study ) for a sermon of this nature. I once attended a church where the pastor took eight years to get through the Book of Genesis. And believe me when he got to the end, you knew what the Book of Genesis was all about.
That's the way I study the Bible......I read entirely through one book at a time. I start with the first chapter, and slowly work my way through; which means sometimes, I have to back up and re-read a text until I fully understand it. This method of studying the Bible, helps me to keep subjects in their context. I don't jump around, reading a verse here and a verse over there. I also stay away from those, read through the entire Bible in a year promotions, because when it comes to Bible study, you don't need speed, you need understanding.
The reason people like Byron, Claudia, longing couldn't figure out how to reconcile Rom. 2:13 with Rom. 3:20 is because they only look for verses that they think support their particular theological bent. I use this method ( quite effectively I might add ), of reconciling Scripture; on such groups as Jehovah's Witnesses. Whenever I do, they begin to see contradictions, but its not Scripture that is contradicting itself......its their doctrines ( their beliefs ) that are contradicting the Bible.
Now to explain how you reconcile Rom, 2:13 with Rom. 3:20. Remember, how I stated the importance of following the progression of thought in scripture ( because the Bible is a book of progressive mention ) ? If you always snatch verses from their surrounding context, all you will ever end up doing is creating your own Bible. A Bible that you can twist and shape into anything you want. I'm going to show, the proper method of following the progression of thought in the Book of Romans. Its not hard.
The first three chapters of the Book of Romans must be studied as a unit. In the first chapter of Romans, Paul describes the unrighteousness of the Gentiles. In the second chapter of Romans Paul describes the unrighteousness of the Jews. In the third chapter of Romans ( just in case anybody thought Paul overlooked them ) Paul describes the unrighteousness of ALL mankind. We want to focus on the second and third chapters because this is where the verses to be reconciled reside.
In the second chapter Paul declares that the Jews are inexcusable, because the very things that they looked down on ( and accuse ) the Gentiles of doing, they themselves were guilty of doing the same things. He warns the Jews that they will not escape being judged for practicing such things ( v.3 ). As we read on following the progression of Paul's thought, leading up to verse 13 talks of the hardness of their ( the Jews ) hearts by which they were storing up wrath, for themselves on the day of God's judgment.
Eternal life, Paul says, is for those who by patient continuance do good; but those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, tribulation, anguish and wrath to every soul......to the Jew first and then the Greek. Now here's where it starts to get interesting.
12"For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law
13 (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;
If you've noticed, Paul isn't exactly congratulating the Jews for their good behavior up to this point, and verse 13 isn't a description of their obedience to the law; but a declaration of what God requires from His people, if they hope to be made right with Him. We know this because as we read on ( following through to verse 17. Paul says:
17" Indeed you are called a Jew, and rest on the law, and make your boast in God,
18 and know His will, and approve the things that are excellent, being instructed out of the law,
19 and are confident that you yourself are a guide to the blind, a light to those who are in darkness,
20 an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, having the form of knowledge and truth in the law.
21 You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself ? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal ?
22 You who say, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery ? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples ?
23 You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law ?
24 For “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” as it is written. "
Do these verses lead you to believe that verse 13 is saying that the Jews were keeping the law ( or that anyone can ) ? They shouldn't, because starting with verse 21; Paul clearly described the true nature of the Jews, and it wasn't one of keeping the law. Sure they heard the law, and boasted about their law keeping ability; but they weren't really doers of the law; which God requires before He will justify anyone for keeping the law.
Once you get into the third chapter of Romans, starting with verse 9, Paul describes the Jews and Gentiles, as both being under sin. He then goes on to explain that there is none good, none who understand, none who seek God.
Now when you come to Romans 3:20, you don't have to do all kinds of back flips; by pulling other verses out of context, in a vain attempt to prove we can keep ( or should try to keep ) the law. When you follow the natural progression of the first, second and third chapters of Romans; you can easily come to the proper understanding of the two texts. Its done without doing any violence to either text, or making one verse look as though it contradicts the other ( except to those who believe they can keep the law ). Romans 3:20 isn't in the least at odds with Romans 2:13., when you understand that Rom. 2:13 never even hinted; at the Jews ability to keep the law.
This is how you reconcile, what some consider irreconcilable.

CHALLENGE TO ALL TEACHERS OF THE LAW .....MAKE ME LEAVE BC FOREVER

If anyone of you has the ability, can you please reconcile the following two passages. Do it..... and I'll leave BC for good !!!
The first one is Romans 2:13
" For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. "
And the second one is Romans 3:20
" Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. "
Can any of you explain this, what is Paul saying ?
In one verse ( which is always take out of context ), it clearly says those who obey the law ( in God's sight ) will declared righteous, and in the second verse it clearly says that no one will be declared righteous ( in God's sight ) by observing the law.
See what can result when you; take verses out of their immediate and surrounding context. You make Paul ( and other writers of Scripture ) seem confused.
But they aren't the ones confused.......you are. Any Takers ?

SABREFIRE45 VS GOD'S PROMISE OF ETERNAL LIFE

Yesterday I put up a post titled " AND THEN YOU DIE ", in which I addressed believing the wrong thing and then dying. Apparently, Sabrefire45 read it and decided to put up his own rebutal see [post 154947] . This is part of what he wrote which sounds like something right out of Claudia's playbook:
" Do NOT be as the foolish man who's lips say "Lord, Lord," but does not DO the WILL of the Father and Follow HIS Commands. Do NOT be deceived! It is NOT the man who reads or knows the WORD that truly knows the Father unto salvation, it is he who DOES the the words of it. Do not be deceived!
What assurance do we who claim salvation through faith in Jesus Christ have, according not to the words of man, but according to the WORD of the Lord? It is this, do not be deceived...
1Jn 2:4 Whoever says "I know him" but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 1Jn 2:5 but whoever KEEPS HIS WORD, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 1Jn 2:6 WHOEVER SAYS HE ABIDES IN HIM OUGHT TO WALK IN THE SAME WAY IN WHICH HE WALKED.
Do not be deceived by the promises of MAN in whose words are smooth sounding promises of eternal salvation! They speak of the WORD and do imitate the sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves, false prophets of deception which offer promises of eternal salvation that is NOT theirs to give. They prophesy falsely, "you will be saved," when MANY will be rejected and called workers of LAWLESSNESS. DO NOT BE DECEIVED! "
I think Sabre is a bit confused. No man can grant, assure, promise or bestow ETERNAL LIFE. Eternal life is a gift from God, which is freely given to undeserving men ( and women ), it isn't given so that the recipients ( of Eternal life ) now have a license to live lawlessly ( or sin as they please ). When he says:
" What assurance do we who claim salvation through faith in Jesus Christ have, according not to the words of man, but according to the WORD of the Lord? It is this, do not be deceived..."
Then he doesn't quote a reference, which actually addresses how we obtain ETERNAL LIFE, but like Claudia he quotes from 1 John 2 ( which is taken out of context ); to imply that eternal life ( or our assurance thereof ) comes by obeying the law. That's the problem with the legalist.....they insist that salvation is " CONDITIONAL ". You have to perform to their man-made standard of a salvation that depends on your " Works " rather than on the ALL SUFFICIENT work of Christ.
So, if he ( Sabre ) wants to talk about our assurance of ETERNAL LIFE, the gift of salvation; why didn't he quote this:
" For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him SHALL NEVER PERISH, BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE. "John 3:16 emphasis mine
What Sabre ( and many others ) fail to realize; is that Jesus came to save sinners....not to give sinners a second chance, or show sinners how to do what He alone did. Once we have come to truly believe on Him, and understand that He actually took our sins away, by nailing them to His CROSS; we don't revel in sin ( as some accuse ) we live to please our Saviour. We aren't perfect but we strive for perfection by the work of the Holy Spirit who dwells within us. He ( the Holy Spirit ) is the sanctifying power of God which seals us ( the believer ) until our future redemption.
So, Sabre its not about what man says or promises......its all about what God Himself promises. Do you believe Him ?
" Whoever puts his faith in the Son has ETERNAL LIFE, but whoever rejects the Son will not see that life, for God's wrath remains on him. " John 3:36

AND THEN YOU DIE

During your life you lived like a scoundrel, and did anything and everything your wicked heart desired. You stole, lied, fornicated, you hated God, used ( and abused ) drugs, used foul language, dishonored your parents, hated those of a different culture ( or skin color ), murdered, abused others physically and mentally.
Then one day someone approached you with a message......a message of hope ( which depends entirely on you ). If you would just join their organization, their church, or group. You thought " What have I got to loose ? " And you joined. You turned over a new leaf as it were, and began to do things by the book.....THEIR BOOK. You attended worship services every Sunday ( or Saturday ), you stopped drinking and abusing drugs. You became a good neighbor, you started getting along with everyone ( even those of a different skin color ), you tithed 10% of your income. You even started telling your parents how much you love them, and began to honor them. You even sang on the choir.
You got involved in a street ministry, handing out tracts and sharing a message of hope.....THEIR HOPE. You even lead Bible studies. You followed all the rules, you had been told you had to follow. You had become righteous, a good person who had found the truth........ So you thought.
AND THEN YOU DIED!! Only to find out, that you had been deceived. Maybe the group you joined, told you that there was no such place as HELL, or that you had to work at earning a place in heaven ( by keeping the Ten Commandments ). Perhaps you were told; that you were a little god who could accomplish anything you wanted.....you just needed to have enough faith. Even though they presented a Jesus to you, they had actually presented a different Jesus ( a false Jesus ); not the one of the Bible.
There are many different Jesus'; that are being taught you know. Some present a Jesus who sinned ( and had to repent ), others present a Jesus who didn't really pay for your sins ( past, present, and future ) but only for your past sins, or a Jesus who didn't really die. They told you, that it was up to you, to walk a sinless path, and walk just as Jesus had walked ( you must follow His example ). You thought you had......AND THEN YOU DIED. Can you afford to make that mistake ?

1 "Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved.
2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge.
3 Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness.
4 Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. "Rom. 10:1-4
Its that simple folks.

I've noticed lately that several bloggers are using this method, as a way to review comments made to their blog instead of banning. This way they can allow you to post things which they feel are less threatening ( or challenging ).
For example, I asked sabrefire a question on his blog which never saw the light of day. I wonder why ? Usually, people who don't want to answer questions, have something they're trying to hide. I haven't been rude toward him, nor have I made any negative remarks about him. It was a simple question.
