When You Know Better...

One of my favorite quotes is a paraphrase of Maya Angelou: "You do what you know. When you know better, you do better."
That is my motivation to teach, not only facts [my job] but principles. Being a follower of Jesus, His are the principles I want to spread. I've tried them. They work!
May we always be learning!
"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge..." Proverbs Chapter 1, verse 7.

A Great Gift

I was listening to a recorded book, I, Claudius, today. In one of the later chapters Claudius says his mother only spoke poorly of him to her grandson. So Claudius' son had only contempt for him. It reminded me of a family where that played out in a not so good way. The husband did not appreciate the wife's work as a stay at home mom. When the mom & three middle schoolers did a long road trip, the kids thought her long hours behind the wheel as non-work. They complained when she said they would have to boil the spagetti and heat the sauce for their dinner. "But, Mom, you didn't work all day!"
A very great gift to give to another person is respect. Others, especially children, will copy. If a wife honors her husband their children will honor their dad. If the husband honors his wife their children will honor their mother. The odd thing is, the one who does the honoring does not reap the reward... in this life, anyway.
That's my observation. What's yours??

Dating Don'ts: War of Wills

He had contacted me after viewing my profile [anther site]. He had said he wanted to know how to get on my good side since I had so many interests and time in common with him. He agreed to a coffee date. He stated more than once that he was eager to drive 2+ hours to meet me.
He wanted to know a particular about my job. He had only a two day friendship with me via the internet & telephone. He pressed for this work detail though I preferred not to tell him. He said it was now a war of the wills and pressed some more. He did not accept my word that I would explain more about my job at the coffee date [that same day.] He lost - I did not tell him the particular. He also called two hours later to cancel our coffee date saying we were not compatible.
When he asked how to get on my good side I said be yourself & be a gentlemen. Am I wrong to think that when a woman says no [in this case revealing a job particular] a gentleman will accept the answer?
I felt he was attempting to control me. Will I never find a date because I can be strong when I feel I need to be?
Opinions & observations welcome!
[Have a great day, y'all!]

If those ossuary boxes were really of Jesus & His 'family' wouldn't sightings of the 'family' been big news in the early church to discredit the new religion? Would people die for the resurrected Jesus if Jesus were buried a few miles away? I don't think so! If He had a family, would not that have been talked about?
What do you think??

CK!! I do NOT share the late dictator Sadam Hussein's fondness for the chemicalized snack. Give me plain torilla chips anyday.
On Tuesday I bought a spicy chicken wrap from a fast food restaurant. Oops! I did not use their spicy sauce that was principally oil [read FAT]. I used plain-old mustard [read fat-FREE]. Still, the chemicals and salt from that wrap haunted my tongue for days. I drank gallons of water & tea trying to flush them out.
Now for my confession: I'm a food snob. I like REAL food. Cheese too high in fat? Eat less, not the fake lowfat stuff. Need to loose weight? Eat more fiber, vegetables and get more exercise.
Soda? Rarely! I'm an adult now; I drink water or tea. Lemon & lime slices are great flavor enhancers.
So ends my most boring post... Sorry for the rant.

The Adams Family

Not the monster one, which, I believe, was spelled differently, but the First Family one - John & Abigail is the subject of this post. Abigail was John's partner in ambition, life & love. "It was a marriage of the mind and of the heart, enduring for more than half a century, enriched by time," according to an official biography.
Ozzie & Harriot could talk for hours. George Burns spoke tenderly of how much he missed his Gracie Allen.
Do these relationship have to be the exceptions? How does one get that?
My mom & dad were devoted to each other. They supported each other always, till death did they part.
What exemplary relationships do you know of? Jacob & Rachel??

I confess. I'm addicted! I can't stay away. The thrill! The rush... of seeing how many have viewed my blog. I check it every few minutes when I'm online.
My daughter is a frequent blogger. She blogs on two different sites. This View from the Field is my second attempt at blogging. I tried a few posts on MySpace Several of my posts disappeared before uploading. I was discouraged - all that typing and baring my soul only to be lost forever in cyberspace.
I am aiming for one short post per day. I hope to start discussions. I want to get people thinking. I WANT TO CHANGE THE WORLD... one view at a time...

[Jesus] said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation." Mark 16:15

Today my job took me to a preschool. I taught four-year olds about how fossils are formed, what paleontologist have to work with, how dinosaurs walked, teeth dictating diet, what animals did not go extinct and how to pet an alligator.
After the presentation, the children filed out of the classroom. As I was packing up the artifacts, that included seven real coprolites, I heard one of the departing children call out, "You're one hot momma!"

PS It was a girl.
PPS Do you know what a coprolite is???

I have 13 bar-code cards on my key chain. 13! I can barely find my three keys! One I almost had to pay for - my library card. Before I coughed up a George Washington portrait, they started offering them for free.
My church actually passed out what could be #14 for me but I am declining adding it. It was to remind us to reflect on God's blessings. I'm all for reflecting on God's blessings but it would not be noticed on my glob.
Anyone want a key chain card that says, "Reflect," and, "Remember?"

Some years ago two Christian counselors separately told me that at mid-life men transfer the feelings they had for their mothers onto their wives. Oddly, a fellow at my church was demonstrating that behavior. Unfortunately he had a tough childhood and his mother was a life-long thorn in his side. He married a girl that looked very different from his mother [different race]. When he was in his late 30's, long separated from having to deal with his mother, he started having affairs with women who looked just like his mother [same race]! His wife then embodied to him all the negative memories. He even told me that when he was a young adult, women of his own [and his mother's] race were not attractive to him. Decades later, while he was cheating on his wife, he told me that recently women of his own race were now attractive to him. Wow.
Two questions: 1] Men, what's the relationship with your mother like and can you separate it from what you will have with women in the future?
2] Do women do the same thing with feelings for their fathers and the men they marry?
