My Year 'Ended' with a Barf Dec 31, 2008 1:20 pm

Yes, you read right - the gross stuff. But it's not what you think! It was not me, it was my cat. She vomited in my car overnight. This morning I drove to work and didn't make the discovery til I parked three blocks from my job and sixteen miles from a change of clothes. I had a rear end full of regurgitated kitty kibble. Eeeww....!!

I checked my car's trunk. Yesterday I had gone shopping, a relatively rare event. Lo and behold, I had a new, clearance rack skirt that matched the blouse I already was wearing. Phew!

But I still had to scrape the yuk off my jacket.

I had a rough day of work Sunday. Monday I was off. This morning on the way to work I asked God for help to not do anything stupid or get anyone mad at me.

Well, I had a very good day. No one got mad at me. A special project I was working on was delivered today and was well received. And then I blew a bunch of money on dining out with friends. The dinner conversation was delightful, though!

Dear Lord, thank You for my good day. Thank You for listening to all my little requests. Thank You for providing laughter on the job. Thank You for my friends. Thank You for eyes to see smiles, art, scripture, details, soft lights and bright sun. Thank YOU!!!

Should We Defend Christmas? Dec 26, 2008 5:11 am

I have zero problem celebrating the birth of our Savior - I celebrate many birthdays, including my own. Of course I want to celebrate the birth of someone so real and dear to me.

But the Bible does not command us to remember His birth. It commands up to remember His death and resurrection - a brilliant moment in history and the basis of my salvation [ alleluia!! ].

And December 25th is not thought to be the real day of His birth, just a convenient time substituting a Godly celebration, many centuries ago, for a pagan one.

When I put on the armor of God, do I stand on Christ the solid rock or do I stand on happy memories. Do I stand on Christ the solid rock or do I stand on human tradition?

I personally think it is counter productive to argue with non-Christians about Christmas. Don't curb your own celebration but acknowledge what it is and how it came to be. It just might give you a platform to then discuss His life, death and re-life - all solid rocks.

My First Gift! Dec 25, 2008 11:09 am

My friend brought me a long, wrapped tube. In it was something I really wanted - a dip stick! You see, the loop of my car's dip stick got broken off by my mechanic. He gave me $10 off the repair work. I've made several lame attempts at finding a replacement. Last week I asked a handy friend of mine for help rigging a new loop atop my old dip stick. He said he would help but then he seemed to have forgotten. But he hadn't - he got me a new used one! So sweet...

Why I Don't Use a Study Bible Dec 25, 2008 5:43 am

The words on the page are fixed. Every time I read Galatians 5 the fruit of the Spirit are listed in the same order. But God's Spirit is living and active and sharper than any two edged sword. One day He might use Galatians 5 to teach me about civil accountability. Another day He might use it to teach me about family interactions.

Study Bibles are great starting places. But the wisdom of God has boundless and free to all that ask.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

James 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.

What do you use and why?

Pam Belinda Fieldlilies Dec 21, 2008 9:57 am

He asked me to dance. I thought he addressing Pam but he was holding his hand out to me - the universal sign that means, "let's dance." So I danced with him.

Because people rarely use names anyway [ and I'm amazingly slow! ] it took a few more occurrences over a number of dances for me to realize that he thought my name was Pam! I wasn't sure what to say, West Coast Swing gives little opportunity for conversation as the pattern usually has the partners at arms length from each other punctuated by brief passes of nearness. The music, the concentration on technique - not the ingredients for chatter. And I don't like pointing out mistakes.

I started hoping it was a temporary slip. But he kept on calling my Pam and the longer he did the more awkward to correct him.

I finally did.

last night a new acquaintance called me Belinda. After the second time I corrected him. He said he'd been calling me that all night! I only heard it twice and I only danced with him twice. How many middle aged women in royal blue sequined halter dresses were there last night??? LOL!
