I went into chat today and met some Australians that I hadn't had the priviledge of meeting before. When I was there I was listening to one of my favorite songs .. It is well with my soul. I began to "sing" it in the chat room it was then that
Sarky asked me if I knew the story behind the song.I had to admit that I didn't!

I listened intently as he explained to me the story behind it, I would like to share that with you incase you dont know of its meaning! The song was penned by a man called Horatio Spafford. Spafford lost a son in 1871 and shortly after he lost everything in the Great Chicago fire. I can only imagine the pain that the family was going through at that time. Spafford was a lawyer and had planned in 1873 a trip to go to Europe. Spafford sent his family ahead of him because he was wrapped up in zoning laws concerning the Great fire. The ship that his family was on became the source of another tragedy, after a collision the ship sank and he lost his four daughters only his wife was spared. While rushing to his grieving wife as he passed by the place where his daughters had met their deaths he penned these words...

I always felt the power behind the song, but now I know its history I am not ashamed to say that it reduced me to tears. How many times have I complained of trials that life brings, compared to this and seeing the faith of this man I am greatly ashamed for my "pity parties!!" The words that struck me where these:
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more


My sin is nailed to the cross, it wasn't superglued there but Nailed.. although I stood condemned to death the Lord took my place. I went into chat today but can assure you I left a different person. I am humbled by the faith of this man and his personal testimony. I am convicted for the fact my savior was nailed to that cross, condemned for me.

Both these men had an advocacy role

Lord may I always see the wonder of the cross and strive to be more like men like Horatio, to have that faith, to praise instead of becoming bitter.WOW!

I went into chat tonight and boy did I ever get a rude awakening, somehow when I joined this site maybe naively I thought that it would be good to commune with some christians in chat and see what the Lord is doing in there lives and in their areas, but I'm afraid I was mistaken.

There are some wonderful people in the chat room who I would love to have a conversation with but amongst them are those whose swearing would "make a docker blush" to coin an Irish phrase. I noticed that other rooms were free with no one in them I wish there had of been because the "Friendship room" tonight was unfortunatley far from friendly, which I must admit saddened me.

Oh Lord let me reach out to the hurting
To those with such obvious pain,
To help them Lord would you would use me?
To get back to the cross once again.

I cannot believe they are here for no reason
Is it you that have brought them along?
Lord teach me to love not rebuke them

Reading: John 19 v 38 - 42

I would like to talk about a man who the New Testament speaks of as a secret disciple, he suddenly pops up during the trial and the death of Jesus. When Christ dies on the cross he comes out of hiding and identifies himself with the son of God. Joseph of Armiamthea is mentioned in the 4 gospels but it is Johns account that speaks to me the loudest.

In verse 38 we read "And after this Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took the body of Jesus".

The Line that stands out to me is a disciple of Jesus but secretly, no one can be a secret disciple forever. A philosopher once said that a man cannot be a secret disciple for long either the secrecy destroys the discipleship or the discipleship will destroy the secrecy.

Christ is looking for men and women who love him to serve him with the mouth and also by their actions. Why was Joseph a secret disciple? We read in Luke's account that he was an honorable counselor for fear of the jews. Joseph didn't want to exchange the status he held in the temple for a carpenter and his band of Nobodies. There are lots of us who love Jesus but will not be seen openly with him because it can cost us prestige, friends and position. Are you like that? Do you love the Lord but afraid to declare it openly?

Joseph was a rich man as we read in Matthews account (being an ex tax collector he was aware of these things). Matthew said when the even was come there was a rich man.. Joseph feared the scorn of the socialites of his time. A member of the Sanhedrin and a rich man could have made Joseph a great witness for Christ, perhaps Joseph could have even prevented a Kangaroo court that the Lord was submitted to!

In Luke's account we read that Joseph and Nicodemus didn't stand for Christ they were silent. Silence is Golden? no in this instance silence was yellow, the mark of a coward. It has been written that the only thing that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. Joseph did exactly that - Nothing!

When we get to heaven Christs," Well done thy good and faithful servant..." will mean more to us than a million plaudits of men. What will the Lord say to us when we stand before him on that day I wonder?

As a secret disciple Joseph lost out, by being a secret disciple he lost out in walking with the Lord, Joseph didn't get to walk with the Lord like the apostles did. Joseph only seen the Lord a few times a year when he needed to be in town. Joseph also lost the understanding of Christs teaching which he gave publicly, he wasn't there to see Christ. Joseph never got to hear the explanation of the Lords teachings directly from the Lords mouth. Joseph lost out in involvement in Jesus prayer life, the 12 apostles listened to the Lord pray and asked the Lord how to teach them how to pray. Secret disciples lose out!!!

What was it that finally made Joseph move out in faith? What brought him from the shadows into the light? To acknowledge Christ as the Savior, messiah and King? Was it Fear that kept him back? Who are we afraid of? Family, friends, business associates? .. It says that Joseph went BOLDLY into Pilate. Did Joseph not know that taking a dead body from the cross, which in the eyes of Jewish laws was a curse that would mean defilement that he could not partake of the passover? Joseph got to the stage that he no longer cared! I believe in his heart that Joseph knew that Jesus was the passover literally. When Joesph took Christ off the cross he had the real passover the Lamb of God who was sacrificed for our sin.

There is a legend that states Joseph owned tin mines in the UK outside Glastonbury,and visited there regularly,that would have cost money but Joseph didn't care about his riches anymore! he cared about Christ! Joseph personally asked for the release and custody of the Lord,he knew he was risking the wrath of Pontius Pilate but he no longer cared. It wasn't the life, miracles or ministry of Christ,that made Joseph step out of the shadows, it was the cross. Joseph melted when he saw that Christ died for him and after seeing the work on the cross,he yielded to the Lord, Joseph knew what the Lord had done for him. The cross and what it represented brought him out of the darkness of indecision to identify with the Lord Jesus, and it continues to bring us out of the darkness to this day.

Mark Ch8:38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

We each have something Jesus needs I pray that we have the courage to come out and make a stand to glorify the Lord name.

Matthew Ch6 v 9

The Lords prayer is In John Chapter 17, this prayer is really the prayer of the disciples. In the middle of the Lords prayer I noted that there is a division. In the first 3 petitions we see "thy" and the last 3 petitions is "us and our". In this we see the pattern for our christian walk we must put the Lord first and then ourselves. I would like to concentrate on the following line in the prayer.

Give us this day our daily bread.

By this, I believe, it means the daily physical necessities for life. What sort of bread? Some people see it as a spiritual bread in John Ch6:35 we read "And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst". Others say it is natural because bread is a staple in our diet. I prefer to think the Lord was talking of both, for without food the body dies. This is what I see as a perfect balance from the Lord, Isn't our God awesome?I believe that Christ was ministering to the WHOLE man He ministers to our spirit, our soul and our body!

When the Lord preached to the people he forgave their sins, he healed their sick but he also fed them, and we all know that in feeding the multitudes he used REAL bread. What the Lord did in his earthly ministry when he was in his body of flesh, he will, I believe, do again in his kingdom when he comes and sits upon the throne of David. It's said 2/3 of the world is starving today, I believe when the Lord returns hunger will be a thing of the past.

Christ is interested in meeting our needs everyday,if we study his life, Christ knows what it is like to struggle to make ends meet , he knew the meaning of the 2 mites and the disaster of losing a coin, he wore clothes that were patched, he didn't have the latest fashion of his day, he knew what it was like to shop within a budget, I believe, to feed a family too. The Lord talked about the housewife buying 2 birds which sold for a penny that shows me in the days of his flesh the Lord was aware and interested in the cost of living, he knew of the struggles that people had and how they had to work hard at making ends meet. In Hebrews 13:8 it tells me "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." I believe that means he is the Savior, healer,baptizer and he is the provider. The Lord provides for each and every one of us, he wants us to ask him about our finances in this time of economic collapse. I believe that just as worry and fear effect the body and make us sick so ones physical condition can affect his spiritual walk,not only that but also his moral conduct. The God who made us is concerned about our needs he,the God who designed us, wants us to talk about our physical needs DO YOU HEAR THAT? He wants to hear what the doctor has said to you, he cares about you, present your case to him he will listen.

The Lord sends the rain to water the earth, there is life in the seed which springs to life, oxygen in the air to encourage its growth.. too often we take for granted the provision of the Lord. I wonder how many of us when we sit down for a meal even remember to thank the Lord for it? Give us this day our daily bread... Let me put it this way, the Lord wants us to ask of him, but I believe what we have to ask for is necessity. We are not told to pray for luxuries or super abundance but what we are promised is that we shall have enough. The Lord never skimps. In Psalm 37v25 David tells us "I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread." The promises of God never rails but I believe as I have stated before they refer to necessities only.To use an old cliche, he has promised to meet our needs, not our greed's!!!

This is what the Lords prayer means to me, to quote an old poet although I cannot remember his name I remember his words, "GOD LIVES AND ALL IS WELL!!! There is one word that stands out to me in the prayer the Lord gave us, he uses the word "Daily" The Lord wants to look after us daily and he wants us to trust him daily, or otherwise put .. One Day At A Time

I pray this blesses you as much as it has blessed me let me leave you with a closing thought from Psalm 118:24 "This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it".It's this day not someday ,but today. Live one day at a time don't think ahead, THISis the day....Stop worrying about tomorrow it will come, live this day and take every day as it comes and trust everyday as it comes.

Judges ch 16 v 20 then Hebrews Ch2:1

I would like to speak to you about how to lose everything God gives to us and not even know it. I don't want to look at the usual suspects that we all know about and are aware of but other things that grieves the Lord. It causes the Holy spirit to flee from us leaving us devoid.

While men look for the obvious to destroy the vineyard like the bear and the lion it was the foxes who did the damage. While we are looking at the big sins it can be the small sins that can take us out of the will of God.

Grumbling and Disputing
In Philippians 2:12 "Do all things without murmurings and disputings" there's a statement! Do all things without murmurings and disputings! WOW! God only tolerates these things in babes only in those who are new in the faith. If you want Gods spirit lifted from you start complaining,and all too soon you will find yourself empty!

Spiritual Pride
This is the worst form of pride. Pride was the devils sin it caused him to be cast out from the presence of God. Paul was right when he said Knowledge puffeth up .. like some kind of spiritual elitism! You know you can have the right idea and the wrong attitude,this grieves the Holy Spirit. You can become like the Pharisee in the temple in Luke 18:11 it reads "The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican".We are what we are but only by Gods grace. When the pharisee prayed "I thank you that I am not as other men are..." I believe he was leading himself into the desert and away from the spring of living waters.

Cares of the world Matthew 13 "And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them" The thorny ground hearer .. are you choking?

There are 3 things that stop us going on:-

Immediate satanic action - Satan hinders us
Tribulation - Trials in our lives
Cares of Life - The sad thing is here the victims don't know it, they don't know that slowly they are moving farther away from the Lord. Yes there are things we have to attend to , jobs . bills, families but we cant as believers let this choke us. These cares can choke our love, commitment and service to Christ. Of course we have to help family and friends but we have to go on in our relationship with the Lord who is our strength too. Sometimes it is said that the only time people see clearly is on a deathbed, help us to see where we are now and not when its too late to change.

The children of Israel was fed for 40 years by the Lord but became tired of the Manna ..they wanted flesh because they were tired manna and wanted some variety, God gave them the flesh they asked for, but along with the flesh they became lean in their soul.

Substituting Motions for EMOTIONS! The spirit of God shook Samson (It's said to be the way the Holy Spirit came upon him) but Samson began shaking himself!He declared,"I will go out as at other times and shake myself!" I wonder how many times Samson did that? How long did it go on before the Lord halted it? He performed but he had no anointing. We think sometimes we need a good shaking.. NO we don't!!! What we need is a deep work of Grace done within our hearts. Raising hands without hearts, Singing without thinking, Reading without pondering? Is it a sham that we have? The 5 virgins got shut out because of a sham, they had oil in their lamps but not in their vessels they had outward profession but not inward reality.

Being baptized with the Holy Spirit but not filled?
Surely that is contradictory? No lots of believers say that they are baptized in the Holy spirit yet they are ineffective and powerless, is it that we are living on past experiences when our faith was at its height? Is your experience only a memory? The Lord wants us to have fresh manna every day!!! Fresh food from heaven. In Exodus it tells us that the manna was covered in oil. Oil is representational of the Holy spirit! What an amazing banquet the Lord wants us to have.We need to have fresh experiences in our christian walk if we don't then we begin to die. Its kinda like a car, your car wont run forever on one tank of petrol will it now? NO!! We have got to keep on filling up that tank. That's why Paul says in Ephesians 5:17 "Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is".

Let me leave you with these scriptures:
Hosea7:9
"Strangers have devoured his strength, and he knoweth it not: yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he knoweth not".What stranger has taken your strength? Who do we associate ourselves with? If the people we associate are not who we need to be with they take our strength.

Judges 16:20
"And she said, The Philistines be upon thee, Samson. And he awoke out of his sleep, and said, I will go out as at other times before, and shake myself. And he wist not that the LORD was departed from him".Here we have unconscious deterioration. How are you and the Lord fellowhiping? Are you cold? fighting to keep going to church? That's a sign that we are spiritually on the ropes!I pray if you are feeling like this that you will get on your knees and talk to your father about it!

Exodus 34:29 After receiving the law and came down the mountain his face shone. Here is unconscious improvement. People can think they are struggling or doing well is perhaps because they strive to do better. After 40 days and nights up the mountain with the Lord he shone so brightly they had to cover his face with a veil.

Where are you? Where do you stand? Some believers are the same yesterday today and forever but not for the right reasons yesterday they complained, today they complain and tomorrow they will do the same. I pray that at the times I am stuck in that spiritual rut I will be wise enough to go to the foot of the cross.

Well its only fair that I should tell you where I am in all of this, I have had to go back, back to the place where I received the Lord. The Lord knows the reasons why and I ask that when you are praying remember me I have a long road to walk and it seems like a hard mountain to climb! But I'm gonna make it because it is the Lord's strength I am walking in, not my own!

I Samuel 17: 1- 12

Each time I read this well read story of David and Goliath the Lord gives me more and more thoughts about the giants... In v4 we are introduced to the Philistine champion Goliath it tells us his height was 6 cubit and a span, to the bible student,I'm told an interesting fact, it's that 6 is the number of man or of flesh so here In Goliath we have a mountain of Flesh. I believe that Goliath is representing man at his best. He had 6 pieces of armour in all (2 shins remember) he emerges to me as a picture of flesh. In v12-14 we are introduced to Israels Champion David, the youngest of 8 sons and Gods young Champion!! If 7 in Gods spiritual language is the number of perfection and completeness , 8 represents the number of regeneration.

For 40 days Goliath tested Israel, just like the 40 years that the Children of Israel where in the wilderness I believe that 40 speaks of a time of testing and trial.

The battle took place in Judah, divine territory! In Joel Ch 2 the Lord called it his land. What happened to David I believe is going to happen to us all. What does it mean? To the believer it means the child of God is divine territory you belong to the Lord. In 1 Cor 6:19 the body is the temple of the Holy spirit. We as believers totally belong to the Lord. The amazing thing is when God drops the new nature into us it doesn't say he removes the old one. In us all Goliath and David exists. Goliath was much older than David to me that speaks of the old nature. We are all a walking battle, or perhaps better put Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. We as believers have a 3 fold enemy, lets say if the world got saved and the devil himself dropped dead right now we would still have an enemy. What is the enemy? We would still have ourselves to contend with.

David and Goliath were out to kill each other they couldn't come to terms or co-exist in the same country. Judah was too little for both of them, there could be no truce between them, one of them had to die. You have to kill Goliath or be killed by him I am thinking of Goliath as sin. If I tolerate sin then I will never advance or go on with God, the flesh will kill the spirit or the spirit will kill the flesh, they cannot exist together. If you make an agreement with the flesh then you will die,to personalize it for me I will get nowhere without confessing sin that the Lord hates and cannot tolerate, to be victorious I need the cleansing blood of the lamb. Paul said in Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. As David looked at Goliath he seemed invincible he was experienced he had the knowledge of years. David was younger and inexperienced, it was surely an uneven match to all intense purposes. It seems that Goliath had the advantage!!!

David in v 40 Took 5 small stones, 5 the number of Grace, Why did he choose 5 stones? 1 for Goliath and the other 4 for his 4 brothers perhaps? David was NOT going to miss the mark, he was prepared. Davids victory was thorough he KILLED Goliath so that he couldn't come back again. I think each and everyone of knows what our Giants are. For me its discipline to read, pray and study because of distractions that shouldn't really be in the way. What is yours? That I leave you to think on, only you can answer for yourself. Remember Phil 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me". I noticed that Goliath was killed by a blow to the head which makes me think most of our battles are fought in our minds, they are, aren't they? In our thinking, what we think of people,what we say to people, I know these things come out of the mouth but first they are born in the mind. The proof of the grace of God in our lives is victory, lets walk on until our dream of victory becomes a reality for the Lords Honor and glory. Praise the Lord!!!

I wonder what kind of seed I am? I don't like to think of myself as a wayside hearer, the hard hearted? The wayside is a path that has been beaten down by years of people trampling over it, the ground has become hardened.

Am I stony ground? Just a thin piece of soil with limestone rock underneath, when the seed is sown on that the seed would germinate ok but there would be no depth to it. When its roots tried to anchor in search of nourishment it would meet the rock and be unable to stand the heat of the sun, there would be no moisture. It endures for awhile but it still fails to grow.

What about the thorny ground? This is deceptive ground, it looks ok to the eye, in the ground lying dormant are the weeds that were about to spring to life again. weeds grow with the strength that good seed cannot match, the weeds choked the good seed, some greek translations say the seed was strangled or suffocated. Do you feel choked? Do you know there is something not right? This is the most distressing because the good seed goes on a little longer than the other seeds, and its death is a slow one.

Who is the good ground? People whose experience is deep and clean where the ground is good. They keep short accounts with God. The seed can grow on the soft nourished ground. Seeds planted on the good ground brings forth fruit and it brings 30, 60, or a 100 fold. In John 15 we read about fruit, much fruit, and more fruit. What is it that we bear? If you sow seed you cannot look for fruit quickly it takes years for an acorn to grow into an oak tree. There is no haste in it's growth it takes time to grow, and that can be said too of our christian walk. We need to be fed and watered.

I pray that the Lord will grant me to planted on good ground where fruits will be found for his honor and glory.

Often in life we must make choices, maybe not the ones that we want to make or we expect to make, there are twists in the road that lie ahead and surprises that we didn't plan on. Choices we make can be foolish, selfish or wise ones because of our desire to have our own way or know something. When we find our answers does it make it easier? I think not, in a way it can make it more painful.Counting the could have beens or the would have beens in our lives is not wise. In doing that we might unintentionally hurt people along the way with promises made and broken in the blink of an eye because of thoughtlessness and foolishness. If I could, would I take back those moments when I let some friend or family member I loved down? Of course I would for in hurting them I hurt myself. Friends who are friends hold us accountable, and that is how it should be. Out of it all I have learned something which is best said in a quote by W. Edwards Hemming...It is not enough to do your best; you must firstly know what to do, then do your best. And it is here that I lack! I firstly have to know all the facts before making a decision, armed with those facts decisions can be made, does it make it easier? No.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, all I can say is I greatly fear the Lord, and pray for wisdom and courage to find the place that he would have me to be.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Thank you Lord for the word of truth, I am not what I should be but thank you from the bottom of my heart I'm not what I once was

I guess there are times in everyones life when the sun has to set in its beautiful tones and hues it beckons the end of the day, the day that has ended will never come back again, it can never be replaced in the hearts or the minds of those who have lived through it. The sun will set each day with a lot of people thankful for the ending of a particularly bad day, perhaps they mourn the passing of a loved one or feel the pain of knowing that a relationship has ended, there will be those however who will choose never to forget that day for a different reason maybe they are embarking on the journey of marriage or celebrating the birth of a child. The sunset for one can be an ending and to another a beginning but nomatter what has happened that day we can be assured of one thing the Lords master plan has unfolded bringing laughter and tears, joys or trials.

I love to watch the sun go down and its beauty never ceases to amaze me, the nicest way to watch a sunset is with someone that you truly love by your side and for those of you who are blessed and have found their "soul mate" you have found something so wonderful that you are blessed beyond measure.

At the end of the day when the sun sets and your tears are still falling I have one piece of advise for you.. find your rainbow.

Love is patient, love is kind
No eyes of envy, true love is blind
Love is humble, it knows no pride
No selfish motive hidden inside
Love is gentle, makes no demands
Despite all wrong, true love still stands
Love is holy, love is pure
It lasts forever, it will endure

Love is loyal, believes the best
It loves the truth, love stands the test
Love is God sent in his Son
Love forgives all we have done

In this world where hatred seems to grow
True love goes against the flow
And becomes so hard to show

In this world where push turns to shove
We have strength to rise above
Through the power of His love
Lord, we need to know the power of Your love
