My frustrations were growing. The flood waters were not threatening my house, but the ways out of my rural setting were being ruled out as fast as I could think them up.

Then, I met my neighbor on the road...she shared the news. Her co-worker at the nursing home rounded a turn in the pre-dawn darkness while driving to work and plunged into six feet of water...just a few miles from my house.

She managed to get her two year old daughter out before the car sank, but the current was too great and little Kate was swept away.

Suddenly, my frustrations seemed insignificant. So what if I didn't get on the road at the time I had planned. So what if I arrive late and don't have time to check into the hotel before the wedding rehearsal.

Please pray for Kate's mom Heather and Heather's boyfriend Shane. Shane grew up in the church I pastored for 14 years. I cant sleep. It's 4 AM. While I'm attending a wedding later today, they will be planning a funeral...

A two year old was swept from her mothers arms in the flood waters a few miles from my house and drowned a few hours ago. I'm not sharing names because all the family hasn't been contacted yet. As you can imagine, there is a distraught mother and family!

PLEASE pray for this family to be comforted!

In verse 3 of Colossians chapter 3, we are told, "For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God." Amen! He has given us a new identity - but that required death to self!

Then, in verses 8 and 9, we are instructed that there's some things we must do ourselves!

"But now, you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthly language out of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds." Colossians 3:8,9

God doesn't do that for us, we have to consciously make the decision to be obedient to His word and put those things out of our lives.

Then in verses 12 and 13 we are told what to put on...or what to replace anger, wrath, etc. with.

"...put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against you; even as Christ forgave you, so you must do."

Seems to me like if we are doing what we are commanded to do, our corner of the world would be a much better place...

I was contemplating today about some BC'ers that are no longer around for various reasons...Apostle, Untamedjoy, ForEwe, Chapscot, just to name a few.

How about we share some memories of those friends who are no longer on BC. Share a quote, or something special about them and what they are doing now if you know.

I'm feeling a bit nostalgic tonight...

I've been a member of BC for about 10 months. During this ten month period, there has been a persistent degree of fussing and fighting. Sometimes I just want to say, "Now kids, if you don't behave I'm gonna send you to your rooms."

Why is there such frequent discord? Is it the vast degree of differing beliefs. I don't think so.

I think the problem is a lack of Christ's love. Didn't Jesus say, "by this shall all men know that you are my disciples indeed, if you have love one for another."? (BTW, He did. Read John 13:35)

I'm not suggesting an ecumenical utopia. Nada. Not gonna happen until Christ's millennial reign. (Might that comment stir up a pre-, post-, a- tribulation debate?) I'm not engaging in it if it does... It seems the greatest concern at times is being "right" which requires somebody else being "wrong."

This "struggle" was even found in the Apostles. Read Matthew 20:20-28. James and John wanted to sit on the right and left hand of Jesus in His kingdom. Verse 24 says, "And when the ten heard it, they were greatly displeased with the two brothers." I'm sure there was more than a few words exchanged.

Jesus responded, that greatness is equated to being a servant, "...the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." How many servant hearts do you see on BC? What about you? (I'm not being critical...just encouraging us to be honest with ourselves)

What about that part, "to give His life" - we cannot even put aside animosity and pride long enough to get along, let alone "give our lives"... I wonder how many non-believers visit BC and think - if that's what following Christ is about, I'll pass!

Ok, I will come down from the pulpit now...doesn't matter if you agree or not, I felt led to share this - and I'm accountable to Him, not anyone else.

I want to leave you with these words from Paul to the church in Galatia:

For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even this: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." But if you bite and devour one another, beware lest you be consumed by one another. Galatians 5:14,15

Max Report - a God thing in more ways than one! Mar 27, 2008 3:05 pm

Yesterday I posted about my boy's very sick puppy, Max. Originally, I thought, "how silly to ask prayer for a puppy" - but then I realized how important Max is to my boys and how important my boys are to God. God really does care about the "little" things in our lives.

Anyhow, now for the report. Max was regurgitating through his nose, having trouble breathing...honestly, I thought he was about to die. I rushed him to the vet. The vet didn't know what was wrong with him and kept him to give Max him steroids, antibiotics, oxygen, etc.

Mid-morning, the vet's assistant called saying they didn't know what had happened, no explanation, but Max is totally fine...pick him up whenever I wanted.

Hmmm, is it ok to praise God for answered prayers about a puppy? I think so.

My lesson in this? Everything in our lives is important to our Father!

BTW - that's Max on the left, Chloe in the middle and Gracie on the right.

Many years ago in Tiline, Kentucky, the Methodist church, windows raised, was belting out the hymn, "Will there be any stars, any stars in my crown, when at evening the sun goeth down..."

In perfect timing, the Baptist church on the opposite corner was singing "There's not a friend like the lowly Jesus" and they raised their voices loudly when they got to the part "No not one, no not one"

True story...
