My Apologies... Jun 7, 2007 7:50 pm
356 Views
I'm new to BC and blogging. Apparently, I opened the proverbial can of warms on the security/insecurity topic. I in no way realized what a touchy subject this is. Had I know, I wouldn't have gone there. So, please accept my apologies if anyone was "stirred up" by my posts. I will avoid that subject in the future...

I threw my boys out last night... Jun 7, 2007 6:21 am
385 Views
Well, they did it for the last time. I told them, "If you take off on your dirt bikes again without checking with me, I'm through with you!" Well, they did it again yesterday afternoon. I know they are only 12 and 14, but I kicked them out of the house and told them they were not my boys anymore. If they can't obey me, then they can't be mine.

Seem harsh? Absurd? Not according to those who believe you can loose your salvation. I would no more do that to my boys than God would to those who have been truly born again! "How much more" then, will our Heavenly Father be a better Father to us, than we are to our children? (Matthew 6:30, 7:11; Luke 11:13, 12:24,28; Romans 5:9,10,15,17)

Trusting in anything other than the shed blood of Jesus is another gospel (Galatians 1:6)

Now, because my boys know I love them, they strive to please me. But reality is, they are boys. They frustrate me sometimes. But I never stop loving them - never cast them away. Am I a better father than God? Absolutely not!

No matter how badly I error, my Heavenly Father lifts me out of the miry clay and sets my feet on the rock to stay! After David committed adultery, had Uriah killed in the front lines of battle - David did not say "save me again!" David said "restore the joy of my salvation!"

A truly blood bought believer will strive to please God because of love. They will sin, but will not be happy until they turn back to the Father who loves them and waits with outstretched arms to renew the fellowship. He doesn't reapply the blood - He restores joy. Its about a relationship - not religion.

The blood will NEVER lose its power! Jun 6, 2007 8:18 am

I was reading a blog comment (to which no responses could be made) quoting Hebrews 10:26 "For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins" as an "argument" that one could lose their salvation. What a scary thought indeed! Because this incorrect interpretation says if we "sin willfully" then there is no other sacrifice for our sins! "If" we lose our salvation, we cannot be "resaved" No opportunity for reconciliation with God! No hope! And what sin isn't willful? Sin is sin. You cannot categorize them as to which sins will cost you your salvation. Any sin would cost you your salvation! So if I have a bad thought, I am eternally lost? I THINK NOT!

Hebrews 10:26 deals with REJECTING the truth - willfully saying "NO" to the wooing of the Holy Spirt - not a blood bought believer falling from grace! Emphasized by the reference in in verse 28 of rejecting Moses law - trampling the blood of Jesus - insulting the Holy Spirit.

Friends - we are saved by grace through faith, that not of yourselves, it is a gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast. Saved totally by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. If then, the work of Jesus on the cross alone saved me - then I have nothing to do with being kept in the Father's hand, covered by the blood that never looses its power, sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption! Christ alone!

If one of my boys disobeyed me, or does something to embarrass me - would I disown them? Certainly not. They are my boys no matter what they do! My heavenly Father might be saddened by things I might do, or things I don't do (for him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not it is sin) - but He will never disown me!

If we could fall from grace, that means to be saved again, Jesus would have to be crucified again! (Hebrews 6:4-6)

Am I angry? No! But I will defend my Christ's atoning death as being abundantly adequate. I will stand for Him and say that He died ONCE for all.

The countdown to the cruise is on...my boys are ecstatic! I am looking forward not only to the time with them, but simply "getting away" Anyone in BigChurch have advise for a first time cruise?

Moving On... Jun 5, 2007 5:43 am

I guess I will move on from the 23rd Psalm. There's more to share, but I guess this is a good stopping point.

I visited the rec room last night. My second foray in the world of chat rooms. It was a little less confusing than my first visit. Less people chatting. I did find it difficult to engage conversation - everyone seemed to know each other. That's not a complaint! Maybe chat rooms should have greeters to make the new folks feel comfortable. We have greeters ministry at church, why not in a chat room? Just an observation.

My boys and I will be leaving in eleven days for a cruise. We are excited about going. We have never cruised before. Looking forward to the adventure. Anyone out there in BigChurch a cruise expert? Any advice?

Still more on the 23rd Psalm... Jun 4, 2007 5:50 am

"Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me" To understand the significance of this statement, we have to understand the tools of the shepherd.

The rod was used to protect the sheep. It was a heavy, hard, often time piece of root that was balled up at one end. The shepherd could hurl it with deadly force at predators of his sheep. The staff - the shepherds crook - was used to guide and rescue the sheep. With gentle kindness, the shepherd would guide the sheep with his staff by gently reaching down and touching the sheep to provide the direction for the sheep to go. If the sheep fell into a ravine, the shepherd would use the hook to reach down and lift the sheep to safety.

David was saying, "Your protection and Your guidance, they comfort me" There is so much that can be said from these eight words...

More on Psalm 23 and Chat Rooms... Jun 3, 2007 5:32 am

Good Sunday morning!

Well, I had my first experience in a chat room last night. To those who gave words of encouragement and "warning" - thanks. the first one I visited was a little confusing for a first timer...the second possibly a little to intimate for a first timer? Anyhow, I might try it again sometime...

Have you ever noted the position of the 23rd Psalm in the Psalms? The 22nd Psalm is a prophetic Psalm - it foretells of Mount Calvary. Then the Valley of the Shadow of Death in the 23rd Psalm. Then the 24th Psalm - "Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord..."

They always say it takes two mountains to make a valley. What awesome mountains they are that make the valley of the shadow of death...Mount Calvary and the Hill of the Lord...

Psalm 23 Jun 2, 2007 6:55 am

Those who left comments of encouragement - thanks! God has given me so much insight in the 23rd Psalm lately - that's the reason for yesterdays reference. Thought I would share a bit more...David uses third person pronounds in verses 2 and 3 in reference to the Lord. In other words he is talking about the Lord to someone else (He, His). Then in verse 4 David goes through the valley. As David emerges from the vally he begins using second person pronouns. He begins talking to the Lord! (You, Your).

In other words before the valley David was talking about God...after the valley he began talking to God. Do you think thats the difference between religion and a relationship?

...I'm glad it is Friday! No big plans this weekend. Will be going to the county fair with my youngest boys tonight. Probably spend some time in the pool, in the garden and on the motorcycle tomorrow. I've spent a great deal of time in retrospective thought the past couple nights. Looking how God has brought me to this point of my journey. The path has had many twists and turns - and has been very rough at times, but I realize I am simply passing through not staying. The Psalmist said "yeah though I walk THROUGH the valley of the shadow of death". I'm glad we are not forgotten and left in those valleys...

Well, this is day one as a new member of BigChurch. I think this is going to be an interesting journey. I'm a single Dad and pastored a SBC church for 14 years before my divorce. I love the Lord and am thankful He knows the beginning from the end. He has renewed my strength and blessed me with opportunities to preach regularly. Opening doors for Revivals too. I'm excited to see His plans unfold. - SDG!
