Medical Update on Ruth Bell Graham Jun 14, 2007 12:40 pm

just released press release...

MONTREAT, N.C., June 14, 2007, 2:30 p.m. -- Ruth Graham remained stable, but precarious, through the night since becoming semi-comatose on Wednesday. This morning, her condition began to deteriorate, with episodes of dropping blood pressure and irregular heartbeat as she has become less responsive to family and care-givers.

Mrs. Graham does not have a fever, but has steadily weakened and is receiving measures to relieve congestion related to a recent bout of pneumonia that began two weeks ago.

At her request, Mrs. Graham is being treated at home, with minimal artificial support. Earlier this week she indicated she did not want to be given any more food or fluids, though she is receiving medication to manage her pain.

She continues to have fluctuating levels of consciousness, but is resting comfortably, with her husband, Billy Graham, and their five children by her bedside.

Are you one of His sheep? Jun 14, 2007 6:56 am
281 Views
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

In verse 27, Jesus describes the nature of the true believer. My sheep refers to those who believe in Jesus. He "possesses" the sheep. They belong to Him. He owns them. The believer does not determine who owns him just as an individual sheep does not determine who owns it. A sheep is not capable of selling itself or even changing shepherds. Instead, they are owned or possessed by the shepherd. The Great Shepherd, Jesus bought His sheep with a price. "What, know you not that you are not your own, you are BOUGHT with a price..."

Additionally, the sheep "hears My voice" - knows his owner is Jesus. "And they know me" - the sheep has an abiding relationship with Jesus. "They follow Me" - the sheeps obedience is the evidence of that relationship. Jesus gives the individual eternal life. As a result, they shall never perish (assurance that judgment and destruction are not part of the relationship with Jesus). Furthermore, no one can snatch them from the hand of God.

Some tend to interpret John 10:28 as meaning "no one beside yourself can snatch you from the hand of God." They leave it open for the individual to remove themselves from God's hand. However, the Greek language makes it clear that no person is able to remove a believer from God's hand. To say that the individual can remove himself/herself is to say that anyone doesn't mean anyone. Instead this view adds an exclusion from the text that is not there.

The "insecure view" supports their interpretation by saying it is "understood" or "implied" from the text that it is discussing external snatching not internal decisions to reject Christ. However, the Greek construct is very precise and emphasizes the inclusive nature of the word "anyone." The emphasis is that NO PERSON is able to remove a believer from God's hand which directly conflicts with the self-removal view.

Additionally, the believer is sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption. Who can break the seal of Holy Spirit? No one!

Ruth Graham has slipped into coma and is near death Jun 13, 2007 8:19 pm

Evangelist Billy Graham said Wednesday that his ailing wife, Ruth, "is close to going home to heaven," and that the couple will be buried at the recently dedicated Billy Graham Library in Charlotte.

"Ruth is my soul mate and best friend, and I cannot imagine living a single day without her by my side," the 88-year-old Graham said. "I am more in love with her today than when we first met over 65 years ago as students at Wheaton College."

Let's pray for this dear saint that her home going will be quick and pain free!

Let's pray the Comforter will strengthen this family during these hours.

Apostacy Misunderstood Jun 13, 2007 6:23 am

If Acts is the "acts of the Apostles", then the book of Jude is the "acts of the Apostates"

In Acts we read of the deeds and teachings of the men of God who He used to build His church.

In Jude we read of the deeds and teachings of evil men who will be living at the end of the church age.

In the gospels Jesus warns of men, who in the name of Christianity, will turn from the Truth and teach false teachings having NEVER received that Truth.

Apostacy is not coming into the Kingdom and then walking away from the Kingdom. It is coming to The Door of the Kingdom, seeing that the Kingdom is good, and eventually walking away. Thus Jesus comment, "thou art not far from the Kingdom" to the scribe in Mark 12:34 when he agreed with Jesus answer regarding the greatest commandment.

Many people "hang out" around the Kingdom, "act" like citizens of the Kingdom, even do "good works" in the name of the Kingdom - but have never actually become a citizen of the Kingdom.

If one truly ENTERS the Kingdom through The Door
(see John 10) that individual becomes part of the sheepfold.

True believers are SHEEP - more on that later!

Can I get a witness? Jun 12, 2007 5:55 pm

That God is good and His mercy endureth forever!

If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there, if I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost pasrts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall behold me. Psalm 139:8-10

Can someone offer a sacrifice of praise tonight?

Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy - meditate on these things. Philippians 4:8

Can anyone offer up some praise tonight! I'm longing to hear some praise from BigChurch...

Lame Duck? Jun 12, 2007 5:40 am

That's the question circulating in the media regarding the remainder of President Bush's term. I'm not instigating a political discussion with the question. I'm just saying that my King will never be a lame duck! Praise the Lord!

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Sunscreen or No Sunscreen? Jun 11, 2007 9:43 am

Medical studies claim exposure to sun damages skin and increase chances of skin cancer. Last week, the latest medical study indicates exposure to sun increases the production of vitamin D which decreases risk of many cancers.

Who know's the truth?

I do. His name is Jesus. Exposure to Him increase our joy! Good news, there is no risk of too much exposure.

The formula is simple:

Know Jesus, know peace
No Jesus, no peace

a friends poem... Jun 11, 2007 6:01 am

A healthcare administrator friend of mine wrote and shared this with me. I asked if I could post it on my blog. He agreed, as long as he received no credit for it - he wanted the focus to be on the Lord, not him...

A Debtor’s Promissory Note

You gave me a guide for living my life.
You loved me before I loved you.
You looked beyond my shortcomings.
You accepted me just as I am.
You carried me in the deepest and darkest hours of my life
when I could no longer make the journey alone.
You sacrificed for me more than I could for you.
You promise me a life greater than any I could dream,
if only I believe and accept that which you have left me.

Of all these you have given me, what can I give you?
You have asked but two things of me:
You asked that I love you above all others.
You asked that I love those around me, as I love myself.

What you have asked of me is so little
compared to the gifts you have given me.
May I make myself worthy of the debt I owe you.
May I recall those I work with and
those I care for are your children.
May I recall my commitment and debt to you
with each one of your children you have asked me to care for.
May I carry out my life’s works in helping, loving and accepting others
as you have seen done for me.

Sincerely,
A Debtor of the Lord

I'm not going to church anymore! Jun 9, 2007 6:53 am

I've always said, "when we change our 'I've got to go to church' to 'I get to go to church' then we are getting close to having our priorities staight." Said that for years.

That statement isn't technically correct. Church is not a place to go. The blood bought are the church. The Greek word for church, ekklesia, means a called out assembly. People, not places!

The church comes together in a place to meet, we don't go to church. I know its easier to say "I'm going to church Sunday morning" than it is to say "the church is assembling together Sunday morning" I understand that. But is this one of those tricks of the enemy to "kill, steal and destroy"?

Has he subtly tricked us into "not being the church" unless we have assembled together? Has an empty building become the church rather than Spirit-filled believers who are impacting their world for Christ.

Are we worshipping buildings and cemetaries more than we are the God of creation?

When I was pasatoring, we went through a relocation project. We moved from an old wood frame buiding with maybe 2,000 square feet (we were packed like sardines) to a 15,000+ square foot facilty.

During the planning/decision making process I had a deacon angrily confront me in June that year saying, "you will relocate this church over my dead body" He was a picture of health. I conducted his funeral in July. He went in for simple Gall Bladder surgery - had a stroke during surgery and died a couple days later.

Why did I share that? Because the Lord our God is a jealous God. We should have no other gods before Him...that includes buildings! We worship a living God, not a building.

And if believers are going to impact this troubled world - the lost are going to have to see the church as people, not buildings.

We must be the church in our schools, work places, marketplaces and our communities.

Hey, don't go to church, be the church!

I put "SDG" at the end of most of my posts. Many of you know that's not my initials. The composer J.S.Bach worte over 10,000 pages of music in his career as a church musician. It is said that he wrote the letters S.D.G. on the bottom of every one of them. S.D.G. is the abbreviation for the Latin words Soli Deo Gloria, "To God Alone Be The Glory!"

"Whatever you do...do it all for God's glory!" 1 Corinthians 10:31
