I was running all day yesterday with the boys and their friends. We didn't get home till well after midnight. I preached this morning at the church where I pastored. Awesome service! Back there again tonight and then next Sunday for homecoming.

I leave in the morning for Cincinnati. It seems the speed of life is increasing. The down time between cycles of busy-ness is getting shorter and shorter. I can't seem to get caught up on my rest.

Appreciate your prayers!

I see BC's not working right...again. No blog posts since 9:00 PM last night? Yeah right!

The question has to be asked...is it everyone, or just me?

You dirty skunk! Oct 5, 2007 7:00 am

Why did God create skunks? I had my suit and tie on, ready for work this morning - but when I opened the door to the garage a skunk had visited! I backed both vehicles out of the garage (gagging all the while) went back in the house, put on jeans and a polo shirt and rode my motorcylce (which is kept in another building) to work. I enjoyed the ride and am thankful for the excuse not to wear a suit to work. BUT, why did God create skunks? What is there purpose? Does anyone know?

Interesting Results... Oct 4, 2007 6:42 pm

I found the results of my poll How often do you attend church? rather interesting. I chose not to respond to any comments so as not to influence votes or opinions.

Last check, the poll had 176 views, 27 votes and 12 comments.

The results are similar to my experience as a Pastor and statistics from various Christian pollsters.

Of professing Christians, statistically only about 10% are core members of a church. By core members, I mean Christians who actively fulfill Christ's purposes for their life. Based on this unscientific poll here on BC only 7% of BC'ers(of those who viewed) are core members of a church.

If we want the church to be what Christ intended it to be - His body in this world, we have to work together in evangelism, ministry, worship, discipleship and fellowship! We can not do that as lone rangers.

Many are disgusted and discouraged with their experiences in the church which results in them being disengaged. Let's take Christ's church back and make it what He died for it to be!

Don't give up, get involved. Be a change agent for Christ. Let's lift up His church from the ashes of disgrace and bring Him honor by restoring His bride!

I love the Lord and the church He died for! Do you?

Through comments on a few recent polls, my curiosity pushed me to ask the question...how often do BC'ers attend church. Please, humor me with your response...I really want to know.
I am actively involved in my church, rarely, if ever miss, and am involved in ministry or service through the church
I attend regularly, but I am not involved in any ministry or service
I attend occasionally
I rarely attend
I haven't been to church in years
I don't attend just one church, when I attend I randomly select a church
I'm looking for the right church

Guests or visitors? Oct 2, 2007 10:40 am

Is there a difference? YES! Let me try to explain.

You get home from a long day at work, fix a quick bite to eat, plop down in your recliner, kick your feet up, turn on the t.v. - ahh, home at last, relaxation after a weary day. Then the door bell rings...someone you care about, you will be nice to them, but in reality, you rather be left alone. This is a visitor

Compare:

You invite some dear friends over for dinner. You spend all week cleaning and planning. The day arrives. The meal is nearly finished, the table is set, you keep glancing out the window anticipating their arrival. This is a guest.

How do people feel when they "visit" your church?

Like a visitor or a guest?

Are we preparing for guests?

Jesus loves you and you can still get hurt... Sep 30, 2007 4:51 pm

In my devotional time spent in John 11 yesterday, a thought came to mind and I made a blog post Can you love Jesus and still get hurt? Well, as I continued in that chapter today this additional thought came to mind.

At first it would appear there is no difference between the two thoughts. But look closely, there is.

In verse 3 the message is delivered to Jesus, "Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick." and then in verse 5 the Word says "Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus."

Jesus loved these people, yet sickness and troubles still came.

In spite of His great love for them, and their great love for Him, they still experienced great hurt, even death.

How can a God of love, the creator of the universe and giver of life, love us so greatly and be loved back by us, yet still allow pain and sorrow into our lives?

There are many reasons - for our spiritual growth, so that we might depend more upon Him and become more like Him, consequences of sin and bad decisions, and I could go on.

But, I believe we find the one overarching reason for in verses 41 and 42. Jesus said, "Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me."

And in verse 4 Jesus says, "This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it."

The power of God carrying us through these difficulties provides witness to those around us that God love us.

"For we sorrow not as others who have no hope"

Do we endure hurt and pain in away that is different from the world? In a way that brings honor and glory to God?

If not, why not?

Yes!

John 11:1,2 "Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with fragrant oil and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick."

Mary's act toward Jesus is one of the greatest examples of love and worship in the Bible. Mary LOVED Jesus without a doubt!

In spite of that love, Mary's brother still became sick and died.

As believers, we still endure hurt and heartache. But, we do not endure it alone. Holy Spirit will come and comfort and strengthen us for whatever we face! (John 14:16-18 )

So love others. You will get hurt, its inevitable. But there is help when the hurt comes.
