Our marriage to God by Steve Mcvey Jan 27, 2007 9:58 am

Ron and Mary Beth sat in my office, both totally exasperated. "I don't know what she wants," he said. "I do everything I can to make her happy and nothing satisfies her." "Ron, I've told you the problem," she answered softly. "She says that she doesnt
feel that I need and appreciate her, he went on. She knows I need her. I couldn't run my business without her, Ron answered, looking to me for understanding. "Thats just the problem," she answered. Turning to me, she said, "I'm nothing more than an administrative assistant to him. I don't have any doubt that he needs what I do in our family business. but he doesn't act like he needs ME.

Mary Beths problem illustrates well the misconception that many Christians have about their relationship with God. They believe that their relationship with the Lord revolves around what theuy do for Him..They feel no intimacy with God because they think His primary interest is in what they can do for Him. While Mary Beth was partly right in her perception of her husband, any Christian who believes that his service to God is the basis of his relationship to the Lord is totally wrong.

When the concept of our relationship to God is service-oriented, we will relate to Him as a divine Employer who scrutinizes our activity to make sure it is up to standard. Our focus will be on our performance as we attempt to do the things we believe He requires. This mindset reflects a legalistic view of the Christian life, a view thats erroneous. God doesnt want us to focus on our service to Him. When grace rules our lives, we focus on Him. In doing so, we experience intimacy in such a way that service becomes a natural overflolw of the love relationship we have with Him. When we focus on our performance, Christian service becomes perfunctory and lifeless. When we are obsessed with Him, our service is literally energized with divine life.

God doesnt need us to serve Him! by Steve Mcvey Jan 27, 2007 9:39 am

God doesnt need us to seve Him. What a blow to human pride! I have heard it said that we are the only hands that God has, we are the only feet that He has, and we are His only eyes, ears, and mouth. That's a scary thought! Jesus said that, if necessary, the rocks could cry out praise to Him. God once used a donkey to deliver a message to a prophet. While it's true that the Bible teaches that Christians are the body of Christ, we find ourselves in a precarious situation if we suggest that GOd's eternal agenda hinges on the actions of human beings. When looking at the modern church, a person could conclude that God is a quadriplegic if we were to say that the mobility of His agenda depens on us serving Him.

The Bible says in Acts 17:25, "Neither is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all life and breath and all things." God doesnt't need us. If you believe otherwise, I encourage you to take an honest inventory of all your abilities and assets and then compare those to the omnipotence of a God who stood on the vast edge of nothingness and said, 'Let there be!" and there was. Think about it a moment. Now, what was it you have that God needs?

If you are troubled by the news that God doesn't need us, let me give you a word you will be glad to hear. The good news is that GOd wants us. He has set His love on us and has a desire to enjoy intimacy with us. While I used to believe that Christians are saved to serve, Jesus gave a different reason for God giving us eternal life. In a prayer to His Father, He said, "This is eternal life, that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whome Thou has sent" (John 17:3). Jesus said that the reason we have been saved is so that we may know Him and His Father intimately.

Living for Jesus? By Steve Mcvey Jan 27, 2007 9:19 am

Opening His eyes, Jesus could see the early

morning light beginning to filter in through the

window of the small guest bedroom where He had
spent the night. He could hear His friend already in the kitchen preparing breakfast. No doubt about it--The mother of all buffets was being prepared. Martha always put out a great spread of food. He loved being in the home of these two sisters and their brother. For a moment He wished He could take the day off and spend some time with them. It would be nice, He thought, but the devil never takes a day off. And besides, My Father is counting on Me.

Arising from the comfort of the bed, Jesus began to mentally organize His day. What shall I do for My Father today? He pondered. I know that I'll preach a sermon this afternoon. That's one thing that would cause Father to really be happy with Me. As He washed His face with a wet cloth, He continued, There are many sick people,e in the area. I'll heal some of them. My Father would certainly be pleased with that. Maybe I'll even cast out some demons today. Thats always a big ministry event. When He finished dressing, He thought, Maybe if all goes well, I can even find a funeral service and raise somebody from the dead. Yes, Thats what I'll do. Father will be thrilled when He sees me take on that ministry project. Those things should pretty much fill up my day. Slipping on His sandals just before walking out the door to face the new day, He prayed, "Father, Help me as I live for you today. Use what I do for You to bring glory to Yourself."

What are your thoughts on that scenario describing how Jesus might have begun a new day?

The Word of God Jan 25, 2007 1:15 pm

I am a believer in the Bible, and believe it word for word. However, I dont think that is the only way that God speaks to His children today. I dont think that it was ever the way He wanted to speak to us. He wants a personal relationship. One that he can talk and we can hear. That is proven by the fact that He sent the Holy Spirit to live in us. He is still alive. Jesus did not die and leave us the Bible. He died and left us the Holy Spirit. To be our comforter, counseler, teacher, all these things. So why dont we let it happen. Why do we think we need to find a scripture every time we think we hear from God? I trust my relationship with Him just like the early apostles trusted theirs. I believe He is powerful enough to let me know when I am wrong. I think its just a good excuse for not being close enough to GOd to hear Him, all I have to do is read someone elses mail and try to apply it to my life. And hope it works. If God speaks, it is to me personally, and it is anointed by God. I know that works.

He'll deliver me Jan 22, 2007 10:25 pm

I know my God will deliver me,
When the storm is raging on a stormy sea
He will pick me up, and hold me close
As He floods me with His precious Holy Ghost
When it rains so hard I cannot see
That through His blood, I have sweet victory
I will hold on to His mighty hand
And He'll deliver me

He'll deliver me, He'll deliver me
He'll deliver me, I know my God will deliver me

When Im walking through a valley low,
Feeling all alone, and rightfully so
In His sweet presence I will go
He will talk with me, and let me know
That its Him alone I will ever need
He is my joy, my life, my peace
I will hold on tight never let Him go
And He'll deliver me

Im weird! Jan 21, 2007 10:10 pm

I wonder why we all want to look alike, act alike, sing the same way, like the same things, wear the same kind of clothes, etc. God has made us all so different, I dont think He wants us to all be alike. He has created so many amazingly different people. If any of them are not like us, we label them somehow. Weird, crazy, different,(if were nice), fanatical. Sometimes we even go to extremes and think if someone doesnt believe like I do, they cant be saved. If that had been the case, I think God would have given us all the same brains. God has to like variety. He is not afraid of our differences. We sure cant all be just like Him. He talks to each one of us differently. It seems like some folks think that if we all read from the same Bible, we should all believe just alike. Think about it. Do you know of anyone that believes just like you in every aspect. I dont. I guess that means that I am the only one saved. NOT!!!!
Sorry if I sound upset, but, really, God loves us just like we are, and if he wants us to change, I think He can tell us.

Freedom Jan 21, 2007 1:45 pm

Freedom is not worth having if it does not connote freedom to err.

All fear is a sign of want of faith.Cultivate the quiet courage of dying without killing. For man lives freely only by his readiness to die.

The slave clings to his chains and must have them struck from him.

To a man with an empty stomach, food is God.

Prayer is not an old womans idle amusement. Properly understood and applied, it is the most potent instrument of action.

Lord let me die Jan 20, 2007 7:46 pm

Not literally of course, unless it is my time. Only God knows when that is. I want to die to my flesh, so that the power of God can flow through me. I want to heal the sick, deliver the captives, raise the dead, just like Jesus said His disciples would do after He left and sent the Holy Spirit. But I have to pay the awful price of dying to flesh to get there. I know that the only way is the way of the cross. To stay up there until my flesh dies. That has to be done daily as the temptation arises to please my flesh. Im not talking about just sin here. Im talking about fleshly desires. Like eating for instance. Its not a sin to eat, unless God has told me not to. Or unless he has convicted me of overindulging, which I personally call gluttony. The question I ask myself daily is am I a foolish woman or a wise woman. Proverbs says a wise man eats to live, while a foolish man lives to eat. That sounds like me and most others I know. I sometimes think that other proverb applys to me also that says Whose god is their belly. If you saw me, you would say, No, youre not fat or anything, never have been. However, I know what God wants to do in this world and in my family and friends, and have such a problem getting my flesh out of the way so I can be used of God like He wants me to. I know the miracles are for today. I have seen them happen in my life. I used to fast regularly, its just been really hard lately, the devil is really working overtime to stop the power of God from flowing through me. Lord Help me to DiE!

I told you I loved you, failed to prove it with deeds,
Measured my feelings, by how you were meeting my needs
When I let go, you kept holding on tenderly
When I sum it all up Lord,
I guess its just you, loving me
Lord I guess its just you loving my
Always giving more than your share
Just like you did on that tree
As we walk together I see
Theres really a love, theres really a love
But mostly its you, You loving me
Lord you know that I love you with all of my heart
How could I offer you less
Yet my all seems like nothing, with what you have done, and all of the ways I am blessed
Lord I guess its just you loving me!

When the darkness fills my senses
When my blindness keeps me from your touch
Jesus come
When my burdens keep me doubting
When my memories, take the place of you
Jesus come

And I'll follow you there
To the place where we meet
And I'll lay down my pride
As you search me again

Your unfailing love, your unfailing love
Your unfailing love, over me again
