Christian humanism....THE SELF, WILL, AND FREEDOM Dec 23, 2007 1:59 pm
261 Views
Christian humanism, is a philosophical union of Christian and humanist principles. It does not necessarily elevate humans to the status of little gods nor does it deny the primacy of God but rather it seeks to celebrate humanity and place the serving of one's fellow human beings as one of the highest Christian duties. This however, is like putting the cart before the horse. We are to love God FIRST and THEN our neighbour.

Christian humanism is a movement of learning that emerged out of the Renaissance and was introduced by Christians to the study of the Greek New Testament. THE SELF, WILL, AND FREEDOM are the main principles of humanism. Almost all twentieth century Christianity has erroneously embraced the principles of the Renaissance and the Enlightenment which exalt the sovereignty of man.

Christian humanism is a religious philosophy which uses a biblical vocabulary and maintains that man is autonomous and possesses a free will.
It is a false doctrine that deceptively draws sinners into believing they are saved when in fact they are religious and lost.

It is a widespread means by which the unbelieving mind is blinded to the the true message of the gospel of Christian redemption. Today, Christianity has been mixed with ancient humanism and has been formed into a synchronized religion of Christian Humanism. Modern Christianity is no longer monotheistic in worship and doctrine because it bows to another god of humanism, the worship of man.

Daniel 4:35

And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and HE DOETH ACCORDING TO HIS WILL in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?

THE MESSAGE OF GRACE IS GODS MESSAGE. Dec 21, 2007 12:11 pm
291 Views
Calvin did not invent the message of Grace and neither did Augustine. Rather the message of grace is a biblical message. Paul preached it but do we call people Paulinists? No, we are called Christians. Adding works to salvation is perverting the gospel and it does not matter whether one is a Galatian, Baalam, a Nicolaitian, or an Arminian. To pervert the gospel is to be cursed of God.

We need to go back to the gospel as it was first presented. By Paul and John and Peter who first hand received the message of salvation. If your church denomination rejects the bibles teaching of grace without mans effort in any way then it has strayed from the truth. It does not matter how popular it is. To be popular is no evidence of having pure doctrine and walking in truth.

Gods people should check out and examine what they are listening to. We must compare it with scripture, within its whole context. Remember that Jesus said if it were possible even the very elect would be deceived...that is how subtle the devil is. He changes so cleverly the word of God.

We must be wiser than our enemies. God will give wisdom to you to discern the truth from error if that is your desire. The bible is truth and the Spirit of God reveals his truth to his people. Whoever rejects the truth it is because he has no truth in him. Naming the name of Jesus does not make one a Christian, The bible tells us that. It is not enough to say Lord,Lord,......

Evidence of a Christian is walking in the light, Jesus is the light, he is the way ,THE TRUTH, and the light. He never contradicts his written word because he is the word....THE LOGOS...God incarnate in the flesh.

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God, Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Synergism.....a cooperative effort between God and man. Dec 21, 2007 10:59 am
231 Views
Synergism is the belief that salvation is a cooperative effort between God and man.

Most people assume synergism to be true. They believe that even though God made it possible for people to be saved by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, that it was something in them (their own faith) apart from any special work of grace, that caused them to “accept Christ.”

The Bible does not teach synergism but rather that salvation is an act of God. Salvation is not found in ones own self. Man has no ability whatsoever to save himself.

Synergists claim that fairness requires that God must do everything He can to save everyone. Thus making God dependant on mans ability. They will not accept any Biblical evidence to the contrary.

However, if God is always doing everything He can to save everyone, and yet some are saved and some are not saved then the reason some are saved has to be found in them and in not God. Therefore, we can conclude that this something constitutes a work, an effort on mans part which does not include Gods enabling ability. This being so, then grace is only received by mans effort and therefore is not a gift but rather something that is earned. Dependant on whatever is in the person causing them to believe.

Synergists believe that the entire human race is connected or has access to the Holy Spirit power source and humans either turn on the spiritual light through a free will choice, or they do not. That is the essence of a synergistic system of salvation. This is what most of the evangelical world believes today. It is, however, a rejection of Reformation doctrine. (More on this later)

Ephesians 2:8-9

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God Not of works lest any man should boast.

Prevenient grace of Wesleyan Arminians Dec 20, 2007 10:49 pm
264 Views
Wesleyan Arminians affirm conditional election but Calvinists affirm that election is unconditional. This is because of the prevenient grace doctrine.

According to this doctrine, God restores to all human beings the freedom of will lost in the fall of Adam. Prevenient grace provides people with the ability to choose or reject God. According to Wesley, "there is a measure of free-will supernaturally restored to every man

This grace, however, is not irresistible. Whereas all are recipients of prevenient grace, many resist it to their eternal damnation. According to Wesleyan Arminians, those who accept this grace to respond in faith to the gospel are saved. Arminians maintain that prevenient grace is bestowed by Christ at the cross.

This doctrine neutralizes human depravity and restores to humanity the ability to heed God’s general call to salvation. There are several problems with the Arminian view.

First of all the doctrine of prevenient grace, on which the Arminian view of conditional election is based, is not found in Scripture.

Wesleyan Arminians use John 1:9 There was the true light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man to support their doctrine.

John is not teaching that Christ enlightens every person at their birth. John 3:19 says that And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light, for their deeds were evil

If Jesus actually enlightened every person at their birth, how is it that they love darkness? A much better interpretation is that Jesus, in His Incarnation, brought God’s light into the dark world. The world is aware of this light through the fact that God displayed His saving purposes publicly. But in its sinfulness, the world preferred darkness. John 1:9 does not teach prevenient grace.

John 1:9 is not suggesting that through Christ’s coming each person is given the ability to choose salvation. To derive the doctrine of prevenient grace from this passage is not really very sound.

This view assumes that fallen men are able and willing to believe in Christ apart from the regenerating grace of God, a notion that Paul has denied in.....

[B]Rom. 3:10-18

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one

There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:

Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness:

Their feet are swift to shed blood:

Destruction and misery are in their ways:

And the way of peace have they not known:

There is no fear of God before their eyes

Those who embrace the gospel would be deserving of some credit for finding within themselves what others do not. This view puts the work of God on the will of man and undermines the emphasis in Romans 8 on the sovereign and free work of God.

The Arminian believes that God foreknows both that some are and others are not going to believe in Christ in response to the gospel. So why does he make them in the first place if he knows that they will just end up in hell anyway?

God is sovereign and he wills what is to be. To take away from this in any way is to regard man above God who is the creator. He is the author...ORIGINATOR OF ....and finisher....one who concludes ....OF OUR FAITH!!!

WHOSOEVER WILL....( A LETTER FROM MY HEART TO YOURS) Dec 20, 2007 1:05 pm

Dear BC Bloggers

Do Christians who hold to reformed theology believe in whosoever will? But of course! Let me explain. Whosoever will call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How shall they hear without a preacher? God uses the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe....those who have ears to hear what the Spirit is saying.

You see unless the father draw us to him by his holy Spirit we do not have God in our thoughts. The nature of man apart from God is dead in trespasses and sins. A dead person cannot give himself life. The Adamic nature is SPIRITUALLY DEAD...DEAD TO GOD. This is scriptural.

There is nothing good in man...no one does good, no one seeks after God. Sola scriptura!

When the Father begins to call then we respond...we are given ears to hear...we desire after him...why?? Because he is calling us...choosing us....electing us. Jesus said that no man can come to me unless it were given to him by the Father. NO ONE CAN !!!!

Do you not see the enmity in those who hate God??? There are people who actually hate God so much that they sacrifice to the devil, atheists have web sites railing on God all day long, people have been heard to die cursing God. Why???

This is because the human nature hates God!!!
We need to be born again and be given a new nature...the nature of God. Then we can willingly choose God because we have come to our senses or see with spiritual insight. In the same way that the demon possessed man with a legion of devils could choose Jesus after he was delivered from the power of Satan. All people who are not born of God are under the power of the darkness of this world. They must be translated out of the darkness into the Kingdom of God. This is a divine sovereign act of God that cannot be done by human effort.

The bible says that the unregenerate are slaves to sin...they cannot be free unless the son sets them free. They sin because they are sinners. Sinners sin. However, those born of God are given a new nature. The born of God nature. We can choose to do good because our heart has been made new. We are led by God, filled with his Spirit, motivated by him. Can we sin? Yes, we can because we still are in a body that is not redeemed. Our Spirits are born again but the mind is renewed over time as we read Gods word that has power to transform us into the image of Jesus Christ. Line upon line and precept upon precept. Here a little there a little. From one degree of Gods glory into another. It is process. The body is DEAD BECAUSE OF SIN!!! The body will be cast off on judgment day and we will be given glorified bodies that do not want to sin.

The born again Christian can sin but will not like it. His heart which grieves Gods heart will seek after the Lord and God will help him. He will cleanse and restore and help his child grow up as a mature believer. A true Christian does not live in sin. A true Christian is sealed by the holy Spirit of promise and will be kept by the power of God unto salvation...when we are completely restored having our new bodies. One born again cannot be unborn again. He will never be lost as God will keep him...sola scripture.

Those that turn back never were saved in the first place. They were deceivers. Counterfeit christians. Many will say on that day Lord Lord.....and Jesus will say..I NEVER KNEW YOU
!!!

There are many who think they are saved by saying a sinners prayer but in fact they are really enemies of the cross. Some are deceivers who use the gospel to get what they want and some are humanists who think that God owes them something, it is my right, I chose God,I have a covenant with God and so my rights are....etc. These are simply religious serving the god of their understanding and not the God of the bible. Sure they may use the name of Jesus but there is venom in their hearts! They want things....all motivated to serve themselves and not give glory to God.

However, Job said, thou he slay me yet will I trust in himHe bowed the knee to Gods Sovernty. He accepted God as he was and did not try to formulate him into a humanist frame work.

There are many also who are saved but they do not understand that it was because God chose them. They were taught the doctrines of man. All glory is to be given to the Lord Jesus Christ who alone is worthy of praise honor and glory!! We are sinners saved by his grace and we should be both grateful for this very undeserving gift and never cease to give him constant honor and glory for it!

Merry Christmas to all!

Isaiah 44:24

Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself

Origins of the Doctrine of Free Will Dec 19, 2007 11:40 am

Pelagius a British monk who lived in the 4th century rejected original inherited sin. He taught that Adams sin affected only Adam but not those born after Adam. Humans,Pelagius said, are innocent in their birth and later on when they grow up, they have a free choice to sin or not.
Pelagius believed there is no need for divine grace because man has the capacity to do the will of God.The Church ex-communicated Pelagius in 417 AD

Augustine defended the church against the Pelagius heresy. Augustine believed that mankind is incapable of saving himself from the spiritual death and the Grace of God is needed for salvation. The Pelagian heresy was officially condemned at the council of Ephesus in 431, one year after Augustines death.

Semi-Pelagianism is a doctrine that believes in the fall of man and that the nature of man is changed by the fall. However, they also believe that the fallen sinner is not totally dead spiritually but only spiritually sick. The sinner still has an inherent goodness in him and salvation which is given by Gods grace must be accepted by the exercise of his will.

The sinner has the ability in his nature to cooperate with Gods grace. Semi-Pelagianism was condemned at the Synod of Orange in 529 A. D. However Semi-Pelagianism never died, but revived under the doctrine of Arminism.

James Arminius was born in Holland in 1560. He was a Calvinist in his views but was influenced by humanistic traditions. Arminius became a famous pastor in Amsterdam. He soon began to doubt Calvinistic doctrine and denied that predestination was unconditional.

After Arminius death his views were stated in the Arminian Article of Remonstrance. They made the 5 points of Arminiasm. A great controversy in the church came to a head when in November 13, 1618, 39 pastors, 18 ruling elders, 5 professors and 19 delegates were invited. It lasted for seven months and at the Synod of Dort,Arminism was unanimously rejected and condemned. The five theological points were formulated to answer the Arminian five points.

Today the doctrines of Arminism have gained wide acceptance and no one wants to question these evangelists and pastors, as the common lay people are not educated in Church history. But the theologians of that day rejected this humanist doctrine.

Men of God like Spurgeon, Whitefield, Edwards and others, however, were not afraid to tell the truth to the people, that salvation is of the Lord without any input at all from man.

As we head towards the end of this age consider that the bible says in the last days there will be a great departing from the truth. Men will be lovers of themselves. Christian humanism elevates man and resists the Sovereign will and Lordship of Jesus Christ. The mark of anti Christ is the number of a man...666....humanism.

Christian Humanism began in the Renaissance period. Dec 19, 2007 1:21 am

Humanism began in the Renaissance period. The Renaissance thinkers saw man as being able to make rational decisions as free willed individuals. They believed that man could understand the world through the intellect and make moral choices which would affect his own destiny.

The church taught( through Augustine) that man had a sin nature and his choices were limited to choosing sin unless he became a child of God. Humanism contradicted Augustine's teaching on the sovereignty of God.

Many Humanists were still devout, orthodox Catholics but some became radical and denied teachings of the bible such as personal sin and the necessity of being forgiven by God.

Erasmus was a Christian humanist. In 1481, he entered a monastery and studied but then in 1493 he went to Paris where he began a dislike for theology and so he entered the university of Cologne in 1496. Later he went to England where he studied Greek with Colet. Erasmus taught at Oxford (1499) and Cambridge (1509-14) where he was Professor of Divinity and of Greek. In England he met other famous scholars as John Colet and Thomas More. They persuaded him to concentrate on Biblical studies.

Erasmus' satirical writings during this period ridiculed Papal abuses. He mocked through satire priests, monks and clergy. Erasmus argued that life is folly. He illustrated by his writings the necessity of folly and the foolishness of wisdom. Erasmus also produced devotional writings and commentaries emphasizing his view of the Christian life.

Erasmus disliked the external devotional rites and ceremonies of the catholic church. He scoffed and rejected many miracles attributed to saints, particularly those of Thomas a' Becket, an English cleric. He labeled monastic orders superstitious and contentious. He rejected the Mass as a repetition of Christ's death along with transubstantiation as descriptive of Christ's presence in the Eucharist.

Erasmus at first supported Luther's reforms but then he began to oppose them. Erasmus insisted that salvation was in part the work of man because man has a free will.

Christian Humanism is defined by the Webster's Third New International Dictionary as, a philosophy advocating the self- fulfillment of man within the framework of Christian principles

Erasmus was a Christian Humanist and he is called by historians the prince of humanism

HUMANISM IN CHRISTIANITY Dec 18, 2007 1:03 pm

Humanism is a system of thought that centers on humans and their values, capacities, and worth. This doctrine emphasizes a person’s capacity for self-realization through the ability to reason and exercise ones self will.

Humanism is the elevation of man. Christian humanism focuses on Man as the object of devotion. God created man for reasons that make God dependant on man. God needs man. God needs mans worship and adoration. God needs to be loved by man. Man is valuable and becomes the center of Gods world.

Humanism says that God made the universe and provided salvation for the happiness of Man. Salvation becomes a reward to those who choose to do right so they can be happy. Humanism’s god is Man. The humanists may acknowledge God, but only as a means to an end, to please and serve man.

The bible however, says that all things were created for Gods glory. God is sovereign. He is omnipotent. He is perfect. He is Holy. The sovereign grace of God opens the door of salvation to all who will enter therein by his grace. God the Father has chosen to salvation many undeserving sinners by calling them to Jesus Christ by the power of his holy Spirit. The Father causes them by his holy Spirit to willingly come to him.

John 6:37 - 71

All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day........No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him and I will raise him up at the last day.

It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.......And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.....Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil? He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

Ephesians 1:3-14

Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly [places] in Christ,
According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love,

Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace,

Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence, Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himselfThat in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; [even] in him, In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will, That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

In whom ye also [trusted], after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory

Gods foreknowlege, election ,and predestination in salvation. Dec 17, 2007 10:21 am

God knows BY HIS FOREKNOWLEDGE who are to be saved by him. God decrees something because God knows it and it will happen. It is fixed, and must happen and will happen and be permitted to happen. God therefore decrees it to happen. God is the origin and creator of all things, all things that come to pass are decreed and created by Him.

Isaiah 46:9

Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure. Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country, yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass, I have purposed it, I will also do it.

Acts 15:18

Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.

Election is an act of God’s grace.God elects (chooses) to save certain individuals from their sins and make them his sheep for His own glory. Election is nothing to do with mans choice. If election depended on any thing in man, then it would not be an act of grace. Freely given by God to the elect.

1 Peter 1:2

Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

Psalms 65:4

Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple.

John 6:65

And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.

Ephesians 1:3-6

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love. Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

1 Thessalonians 1:4

Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God

Predestination is God determining, before time began, to provide His chosen and elect to be eternally saved. To predetermine his will.

Ephesians 1:11

In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will

1 Thessalonians 5:9

For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ

Martin Luther, said in his essay entitled THE BONDAGE OF THE WILL "It is not irreligious, idle, or superfluous, but in the highest degree wholesome and necessary, for a Christian to know whether or not his will has anything to do in matters pertaining to salvation. Indeed, let me tell you, this is the hinge on which our discussion turns, the crucial issue between us; our aim is, simply, to investigate what ability "free will" has, in what respect it is the subject of Divine action and how it stands related to the grace of God.
If we know nothing of these things, we shall know nothing whatsoever of Christianity, and shall be in worse case than any people on earth! He who dissents from that statement should acknowledge that he is no Christian, and he who ridicules or derides it should realize that he is the Christian's chief foe
"

Salvation is by grace alone apart from any human cooperation. Today almost all Christians believe that by grace alone the sinner is saved. But when you go a little deeper they say God did his part and now man has to do his part, or man has to cooperate with Gods grace. This is Roman Catholic doctrine. This is not grace ALONE. This is grace + works = salvation.

The fallen nature will not come to Christ. He is rebellious and hostile toward God. He is in fact in enmity with God ( has a deep seated hated) (Romans 8 : 7 )

The bible says that by nature we were objects of Gods wrath...why? Because we are sinful through and through. It is only God who is good. God, while we were dead in tresspassses and sins, quicken or made us alive by his divine act of regeneration. We did nothing on our part. Yes, he did this for his glory. Sola scriptura.

Salvation is a gift. You do not earn it in any way. You cannot boast about what great faith you had or how many good deeds you did, No flesh shall glory in his presence!! All our own works are filthy rags. Only his works and his gifts are acceptable to God. Only his name, the name of Jesus, shall be praised throughout eternity.

Ephesians 3:3-10

Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved )

And hath raised [us] up together, and made [us] sit together in heavenly [places] in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in [his] kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God,
Not of works, lest any man should boast.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

John 1:13

Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

Ephesians 2:1-2

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.

Psalms 51:5

Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful at the time my mother conceived me.
