The cheerful and the gloomy !! Jul 24, 2009 7:55 am

The cheerful !

A cheerful person judges everything by his faith not by his mind or his reason.

He judges everything in the light of faith in God the Beneficient and the lover of mankind.

He says to himself , Certainly God does good , even if I cannot see that. It is my own defect and lack of insight.

A cheerful person , though full of sorrow within ,

says : Why should people see my frowning and get sorry because of me ?

A noble person keeps his sorrow within him and shows cheerfulness only. He shares with the others his joys not his sorrows.

A cheerful person pours of his cheerfulness on the others. Making then cheerful like himself.

He spreads around himself an atmosphere of joy , peace and confidence .

He makes them forget their sorrows .

A person who loves cheerfulness loves it for others also.

He always finds solutions for the problems of the others.

He gives comforting solutions for every hardship, a shining face for all troubles , joy and happiness in all cases. Nothing takes away his joy.

A cheerful person finds all troubles light , whereas the gloomy finds them huge and heavy to bear.

A cheerful person overcomes troubles , but the Gloomy is usually overcome by them.

The cheerful does not feel pressed , nor have enmity with his own self.

he finds comfort and friendship with his own mind.

But the gloomy is in enmity with his his own mind , because it depicts for him troubles that have no existence , magnifies evil , and shuts every door leading to solutions.

The mind of the gloomy says to him ,

" There is a lion in the rood!"
( Prov.26:13 )

Whereas Christ says ,

" Come to Me , all you labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest "
( Mt.11:28 )

And the Scripture says ,

" Cast your burden on the Lord , and He shall sustain you "
( Ps.55:22 )

Therefore the gloomy is burdened with his own troubles , while the cheerful leaves his troubles to the Lord who hears them for him.

So dear members do not draw a long face ! Cheer up !

The Cheerful & the Gloomy.

The cheerful seeks a solution which would rid him of the problem and of the gloom.

When the gloomy hears about the death of Lazarus , he says like Thomas,

" Let us also go , that we may die with Him "

Can that be the solution to the problem , or adding of a nwe problem to it ?!!

The cheerful , on the other hand , says with the Lord Jesus Christ ,

" Our friend Lazarus sleeps , but I go that I may awake him up "

He softened the word "died" to decrease the distress of the others.

The cheerful does not think of the problem and its trouble, but of a solution by which the problem is removed , and he rejoices.

The Gloomy on the other hand , is worried about the problem and its extent and cause , and about the dark consequencies thereof .

This makes him more distressed.
He does not seek any solution , and even if he finds one he will think it impossible and puts obstacles in its way !!!

The cheerful, finding no solution , leaves the problem to God who has many solutions , and he forgets it in His Hands.

Unlike the cheerful , the Gloomyperson cannot forget his problem .

It is always before his eyes , annoying him and making him worried .

The cheerful leaves a chance for God to work .

When he is in trouble he says to the Lord ,

" It is time for You to interfere .I was keeping You for such a time of trouble. Now , do act O Lord "

And in all this he feels , and trust that God will act , and this makes him calm.

But the gloomy person forgets God's presence and interference at the time of trouble.

The Cheerful puts God between him and the problem , so the problem vanishes when hidden behind God.

While the Gloomy puts the problem between him and God , so he does not see God.

Someone would ask : If cheerfulness is so important , what is the meaning of the words of the Scripture ,

" by a sad countenance the heart is made perfect."

( Eccl.7:3 )

It was not the death of the body but spiritual death . Jul 23, 2009 4:52 pm

Why did we not die immediately after sinning ?

Question :

The Lord God said to our father Adam , " But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat , for in the day you eat of it you shall surely die "
( Gen.2:17)

Why then did not Adam and Eve die on the same day they ate of the tree ?

It seems that the questin concentrates on the death of the body alone , whereas there are other kinds of deaths which our forefathers died on that same day."

Infact there are other kinds of deaths which our forefathers died on that same day:

1. There is moral death,

by which our forefathers lost the divine image they had in the likeness of God
( Gen.1:26,27)

After Adam had sinned ,God said to him, " Dust you are ,and to dust you shall return "
( Gen.3:19)

Thus Adam became dust after having been in God's image.

As a consequence of this moral death , Adam lost the purity and innocence he had before eating of the tree, and he got the knowledge of evil and became aware that he was naked
( Gen.3:21 )

2.There is also spiritual death ,

which is separation from God.

Adam became afraid from God and began to hide from His face and stand before Him as guilty and sinner.

Sin is indeed death as the father said about his lost son , " For this my son was dead "
( Lk.15:24)

The apostle also described the widow who lives in pleasure as dead while she lives. ( 1 Tim.5:6)

So when Adam fell in sin , he deserved the description given afterwards to the Angel of the church in Sardis ,

" You have a name that you are alive but you are dead " ( Rev.3:1)

It was not the death of the body but spiritual death as that by which the widow who lives in pleasure was described.

3 Adam and Eve were also under sentence of eternal death.

That was the reason of being prevented by God from eating from the tree of life .
( Gen.3:22)

And when he died , he went to hades and waited for the salvation of Christ.

As for the bodily death, it is no more death in fact.

By bodily death I mean the seperation of the spirit from the body.

For there is no death for His servants but rather transmission.
It is transmission to Paradise and to communion with the Lord Jesus Christ .

Therefore , St. Paul the apostle desired this death saying ,

" .....having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better "
( Phil.1:23)

As st' Paul called departure , so also Simeon the Elder called it .

He prayed God , saying ,

" Lord , now You are letting Your servant departin peace ,according to Your word , for my eyes have seen Your salvation "

( Lk.2:29,30)

Hence , bodily death is not considered punishment . It is a way to put off corruption and put on incorruption.

(1 Cor.15:49)

and ( 1 Cor.15:53)

Death , then , is the natural way that leads us to the glories of the Resurrection.

Do you think that remaining in this material body of dust is optimum status for man ?

The optimum condition for man is the bright spiritual body which rises in power , in glory and in incorruption and this is what God wanted for us by death.

True , the moral and the spiritual death. It was not the death of the body but spiritual death .

As for the death of the body , it began to work in Adam , and his nature became mortal.

However this death was delayed for the following reasons:

1. If Adam had died at the same moment , the whole humanity would have perished and have no existence.

We would have not been born .But God had blessed Adam and Eve and said to them ,
" Be fruitful and multiply ; fill the earth and subdue it "
( Gen. 1:2

Postponing death was necessary that the Lord Christ may come and affect salvation

However, this postponement does not mean that the sentence of death was not excuted fully and at the same time as forementioned.

Stay blessed

Do you have free will or not ?! Jul 22, 2009 5:09 pm
318 Views

Question :

Does man have a free will or not ?

And if he does have , is it for everything ?

What are your proofs that man has a free will ?

A person no doubt has free will with respect to his actions and works.

There are certain matters regarding which man has no choice.

A person has no choice regarding the country in which he was born .

the people amidst whom he grew up, the parents who brought him into existence, the environment in which he was brough up and its impact on him , nor the way he was brought up.
his/her shape or color , intelligence , the talent he is endowed with or deprived of .....etc.

Many things prove that man has free will :

1. The existence of God's commandments is a proof that man has free wil.

If a man is directed and has no control over his will or freedom , why would there be a commandment ?

And what would be its use if a person is unable to comply with or is directed against it unvoluntrily ?

And even if a person is directed in the way which the commandment will not be necessary since he will walk that same way whether there is a commandment or not !!

Is it logical then that since there is a commandment , man has free will. he has the choice either to follow God's commandment or not.

This is also the actual state of affairs which we see in life .
A person is able to obey the commandment if he wants to .
God has endowed him with a free will and a free choice.
God is put in his sight , but he is not forced to go along it.

2. The existence of sin is a proof that man has a free will.

If man has no free will , would it be reasonable that God leads him to sin ?!

would Not that mean that God participates with man in committing sin ?!

It is unreasonable and does not conform with God's nature as Holy and Good, hates evil and does not accept it , but calls all people to repent and forsake sin.

So , when sin exists , it means that man done it voluntarily by his own will while he had the choice to commit it or not.

If man has free will to do evil , he is rather more free to repent and forsake sin.
God calls all people to repent , but leaves the matter to their choice either to repent or not.

Who is the Shepherd ? Jul 22, 2009 11:51 am

God is the Shepherd.

Undoubtedly He is the True Shepherd as he says in the Gospel :

+ " I am the good Shepherd .The good Shepherd gives His life for the sheep. "
( Jn.10:11 )

+ " I am the good Shepherd ; and I know My sheep , and am known by My own "
( Jn.10:14 )

+ " My sheep hear hear My voice , and I know them , and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life , and they shall never perish , neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand "
( Jn.10:27 )

+ In ( Lk.15 ) The Lord gives the parable of of the lost sheep , and speaks about Himself as the Good Shepherd who went after it and when He has found it , He laid it on His shoulders, rejoicing , and He calls the friends and neighbours to rejoice with Him.

+ As ( Jn.10 ) is known as the Gospel of the Shepherd ,
( Ps.22,23 ) is known as the Psalm of the Shepherd , besides many other psalms speaking about God the Shepherd.

David chants , saying ,

" The Lord is My Shepherd , I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures , He leads me besides the still waters .He restores my soul ,He leads me in the path of righteousness........
Your rod and Your staff , they comfort me "

The Song of Songs , likewise , presents God as the Shepherd .

The human soul talks to Him , saying ,

" Tell me , O You whom I love , where You feed your flock, where You make it rest at noon "

" My beloved is Mine , and I am His , He feeds His flock among the lilies "

" My beloved has gone .....to feed His flock in the garden "

( Song 1 ; 2:16 ; 6:2,3 )

Also in the Old Testament God spoke about Himself as the Shepherd.

That was in the very impressive and evelasting phrase in the chapter of the Shepherd ( Ezek.34:15,16 )

" I will feed My flock, and I will make them lie down .....I will seek what was lost and bring back what was driven away , build up the broken and strengthen what was sick "

And also , " I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out .....and deliver them in good pasture... they shall lie down in a good fold and feed in rich pasture.....I Myself will judge between the fat and the lean sheep......I will save My flock , and they shall no longer be a prey " ( Ezek.34 )

I recommend all our beloved members of the group to read the chapter.

Now , since God is the Shepherd , How could be human shepherd ?

And If God is the Shepherd, how were some called , even by God

Himself , shepherds ?

It is not for the beginners !! Jul 21, 2009 7:58 pm

Song of Songs.

To properly understand the Song , we should take it symbolically , not literally.

Literal interpretation of the Book of Song is repulsive .

It does not conform with the spirit of the Inspiration nor with the sense of the words.

This Book is only fit for those who are deep in the spirit and live deep meditation and who are mature.

It is not for the beginners , who may understand the words in their outer meaning !

Some verses of the Song can never be taken literally.

An example : is verse ( 6:10 ),

" who is she looks forth as the morning , fair as the moon , clear as the Sun , awesome with an army with banners "

The words " awesome as an army with banners ",
are not acceptable to any woman .

For how can accept to be described as awesome , whereas women are supposed to be delicate ?!

On the contrary the Church can be awesome for the devil and the world and for evil forces like an army with banners.

The church was awesome for the pagan philosophy , for the worshippers of idols , and for any deviation or corruption.
It was awesome to those because because it was clear as the sun.

The words " Fair as the moon " do not conform with the description, " I am dark but lovely , O daughters of Jerusalem "
( Song 1:5 )

How can it be dark like tents of leader , and at the same time fair as the moon ?

The words " fair as the moon " bear spiritual deep and beautiful significance.

" Your hair is like a flock of goats, going down from Mount Gilead "
( Song:4:1 )

Many similes in the Song cannot be taken literally as words of love between two lovers !

Take for example ( Song 1:9 ):

" I have compared you , my love , to my filly among Pharoah's "

Can any girl accepted to be described by her lover by such words
" a filly ....." ?!!

Would she not prefer any other description referring to femininity and delicacy ?!!

Who also may accept that her lover describes her beauty , saying ,

" Your hair is like a flock of goats........"?!!

See also how he describes her teeth and neck:

" Your teeth are like flock of shorn sheep which come up from the washing " !!
( Song 4:2 )

" Your neck is like te tower of David , built for an armony on which hang a thousand bucklers, all shields of mighty men "

Such description is rather more appropriate for the church or the believer's soul that fights lusts and devils.

" Turn your eye away from me , for they have overcome me "
( Song 6:5 )

" You have dove's eyes ":

These words have beautiful , deep spiritual meaning.

The eyes represent the insight ,

It means that the person has spiritual insight or understanding.

In such a case the person looks at everything with a holy spiritual look , unlike the people of this world.

and the dove is a symbol of the Holy Spirit , as in the Lord's baptism ( Mt.3:16 )

It is sometimes a symbol of the burnt offering which the poor offers to God
( Lev.1:14 )

The human soul which has broken eyes , full of tears , revealing a contrite heart is that which struggles with God and overcomes. these words of the Song are addressed to such an eye.

The simile " eye like dove's eyes " bear another spiritual meaning.

The eyes which are like dove's are simple , pure , and good as the Lord taught us in ( Mt.16:10 )

He said further ,
" If therefore your eye is good your whole body will be full of light "

The bride in the Song describes the Groom , the Lord Christ , as having eyes like doves by the rivers of waters ( Song 5:12 )

His eyes that are like the dove's represent His insight , reveals the Holy Spirit.

For if an ordinary believer will have rivers of living water flow out of his heart i.e. the Holy Spirit ( Jn.7:38,39 ) .

How much rather would be the Lord Jesus Christ who the Holy Spirit abiding hypostatically in Him.

The Song is not as some members and some critics claim it to be a love affair. Actually it is the story of exchanged love between God and the human soul or the church

" therefore the virgins love you....." ( Song 1:3 )

The Song reveals God's attributes and the attributes of the soul that loves Him.

God does want our relationship with Him to His divinity and majesty.

He wants us to be His beloved and friends , for He is the lover of mankind.

Did He not say ,

" No longer do I call you servants... but I have called you friends "
( Jn.15:15 )

God beautiful attributes make us love Him . His loving kindness, His compassion , and His mercifulness do led us to love Him.
And the Song says , " therefore the Virgins love You "
( Song 1:3 )

But who are those virgins ?

They are the souls devoted to God alone than anyone else.

The soul that love You , O Lord , is a virgin soul that have never given herself to the world and its lusts.

Therefore St Paul the Apostle said ,

" I have betrothed you to one husband , that I may present you as a chaste Virgin to Christ "
( 2 Cor.11:2 )

The Lord has given the parable of the Five wise virgins to describe those souls who seek Him and wait for His heavenly kingdom.

Those souls represent all the good believers , whether men , women , or celibate , so long as they do not give themselves to the world.

The words ," The Virgins love You "

prove that the Song is not a love song from a woman to her beloved. For a woman who loves a man cannot bear , because of jealousy , to see others love him.

The bride of the Song not only knows that other virgins love her groom , but she also reveals it proudly.

This applies only to the divine love . For the soul that loves God wants everyone to love Him also , and takes pleasure in this.

Let us give the evidence :

The bride of the Song says , " Draw me away ! we will run after you "
( Song 1:4 )

She wants all the others to run with her after Him.

She asserts this in the words " We will glad and rejoice in You . We will remember your love more than wine. Rightly they love you "

She gives the daughters of Jerusalem a share in her relationship with her beloved .

She says to them

" I charge you , O daughters of Jerusalem , by the gazelles or by the does of the field , do not stir up nor awaken love until it pleases "
( Song 2 )

He is Just in His mercy , and merciful in His Justice. Jul 21, 2009 2:00 pm

The Hand of God .

In all events which we go through and all thedetails of our lives as individuals and groups , we cannot forget the hand of God in all these things and in thelife of each individual..................

After He created the world , God did not leave it to progress as chanced , or let people direct it according to their wishes , without the intervension of divine providence !!

God is Almighty , and the freedom which He has given to people is not absolute freedom, but a freedom controlled by divine arrangement.

The eye of God does not slumber or sleep , but watches over everything , recording it and calling it to account ........
It is the Hand of God intervening in events which makes us have confidence that He is intervening and arranging everything .

Even if God seems to be silent at times and mistakes occur , He intervenes later to correct and turn the bad into good and the heretic into saint!.........

What is prayer but a call for God's hand to intervene ?

And what is faith , but confidence of God's hand intervening ?

He is Just in His mercy , and merciful in His justice.

Blessed is the hand of God. It is full of love..........

True , It is the faith in God's power which supports us , keeps us , protects us and gives us help from the Holy Spirit , as the Lord said ,

' But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon
( Acts 1:8 )

Happy is the man who works with God and see God manages everything.

God is Almighty . He created the universe and did not leave it , but still manages it Himself with wisdom and justice.

He may leave men to work with their own free will ,

but " He writes in front of Him a book of rememberance " , then He interferes to perform Justice on earth.

His justice is full of mercy , and His mercy is full of justice.

How wonderful You are , O Lord !

Who is like You ?

We feel Your Hand with us in every deed , so we give You our lives in confidence , not fearing anything , nor fearing anyone because You are with us .........

You are the hope of him who has no hope , and the help to him who finds no help .

Blessed is the Hand of God . It is full of love and mercy...

God bless you

Binding satan. Jul 21, 2009 4:02 am

U]Binding Satan .

The Revelation mentions that the angel has bound satan for a thousand years
( Rev.20:2)

Some may inquire how satan can be bound while he is leading uncountable numbers of people to sin. How can this be if it is bound ?

In fact binding satan does not mean exterminating him , or doing away with his work . It means only that he does not have his original freedom.

For example when we say about an employee that he is bound in his job we mean that he does his work but not with complete freedom.

He is bound. This is expressed in the case of Satan "prison"

Certainly satan does not have the freedom he had before the Redemption perfected by the Lord Jesus Christ
i.e. before the time he was called " the ruler of this world "
( Jn 16:11)

True , We should never be afraid of the devil in spite of all his talents and intrigues , he is weak before God's children as the Lord has said , " I behold Satan as lightning fall from heaven "
(Luke 10:1

The Lord has trod him on the Cross , and is no longer
"the prince of this world " as before .

The Lord said of him before the crucifixion ,

" Now is the judgment of this world , now shall the prince of this world be cast out " ( Jn.12:31) , " The prince of this world is judged "
( Jn.16:11)

Thus , the Lord says ,

" Behold , I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions , and over all the power of the enemy "
( Lk.10:9)

Then the devil has no authority over us , but we we have the authority over him .
The devil dominates only the person who submits to him,,,,,,,

I thank God that the devil is bound at present.

An evidence that the devil is bound is the churches filled with millions of people for prayer .

In our days , the return of many socialist atheist countries to God and to faith with hundred millions of their people is an evidence also that the devil is bound.

In his freedom , the devil leads the believers to apostasy , but now millions of the apostate return to faith. However , we do not deny that many sins are committed by tempetation of the devil.

Therefore , I say that he still works but not with full freedom.
Not with the freedom he had before redemption nor with the freedom that he will have after the thousands years
