And now a special surprise. I'd been looking and looking, and finally found an illustration of a hyper-giant star, complete with a forming planetary disk which is where planets come from.

This gargantuan star, called R 126 is located in the Milky Way's nearest neighbor galaxy, the Large Magellanic Cloud. Called hypergiants, these blazing hot stars are aging descendents of the most massive class of stars, referred to as "O" stars was discovered by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope a couple years ago. The star itself would extend about halfway between the planets Uranus and Neptune making it about 3 1/2 billion miles wide.

Astronomers estimate that the stars' planetary disks are spreading all the way out to an orbit about 60 times more distant than Pluto's around the sun. The disks are probably loaded with about ten times as much mass as is contained in the Kuiper Belt, which is the outer region of our solar system where the comets reside.

No doubt about it folks, this is just about as big as they come. (as far as we know)

Here is where things get really big.
The Sun is the size of 1 pixel, and you can barely see Sirius, and doesn't Arcturus (which would swallow Mercury) look tiny?

The blue ball in the middle is Rigel, one of the brightest stars in the Orion constellation. Rigel is almost as big as Earth's whole orbit. If Rigel was our Sun, there would be times where Earth's orbit literally skimmed the surface of the star.
If there was a way to keep Earth from vaporizing long ago.
The biggest star in Orion is Betelgeus, properly pronounced Beetle juice. It is a red giant that could contain the orbit of Jupiter, and then some.

Antares is one of the smaller stars of the red super giants that would almost swallow Saturn if it were in place of our Sun.

And believe it or not they get even bigger yet.
The largest class of stars is called hyper-giants, and they would extend out to Neptune, which would be over 5 billion miles accross.
When they get that big it's time to tell Scotty to give us warp speed, because the next thing that's gonna happen will be an explosion.
We think our nuclear bombs are terrible, just imagine something 5 billion miles in diameter blowing up.

I'll try this again.

The smallest object to the left is our Sun. At this scale Jupiter is less then 1 pixel in size, and you would need a powerful microscope to see Earth.
Next to the Sun is Sirius, also called the big dog star. It is the brightest star in the sky from our perspective.

The largest one here called Arcturus is bigger then the orbit of Mercury, which is to say if Arcturus was our Sun, then Mercury would be inside of it.

PRAYER WARRIORS (repost) Jan 7, 2008 10:31 pm
Mood: cheerful, 201 Views
In light of recent events, specificly a 24 hour prayer vigel for Ginny, organized by Blair, I thought would be good to repost this from last year.
Byron

Following is an excerpt from an article by By Francis Frangipane origionally written on Aug 6th 2000. This article is also used in his In Christ's Image Training on prayer. Especially impressive is the third paragraph I have pasted.

"Arise Prayer Warriors!

Jesus told a parable to show that men ought to pray at all times and not lose heart (Lk 1. In other words, if you are not praying, you will lose heart. Most of the things I pray for I have to pray through to get the answer. God desires to see something deeper come out of my prayer time than just me getting an answer to prayer. He wants me to become like Jesus. So He arranges character-forming battles that not only will ultimately change the world around me, but will change me first. This is what all true prayer warriors have discovered.

When we picture a prayer warrior, we usually see a great aunt or grandmother. I think that every family has one. You never find them looking intngs on earth. In truth, they are co-creators with God! If they were to gaze at a crystal ball, it would explode! They look at astrological predictions and rebuke them. They never wonder about the future because they are too busy creating it. Prayer warriors are positioned by God to stand in faith for their family. Prayer is strono a crystal ball to know the future for little Johnny--they are at the throne of God creating Johnny's future in prayer. They are not wondering if Mary is going to make it, they are praying her through to victory. They do not have time to lament Harry's drinking problem, they are storming heaven to see him delivered.

Prayer Warriors are the most frightening, powerful, demon chasing, world-moving, beiger than kings and mightier than armies. Prayer is the most powerful force on earth!"

Now we have added in the Sun when compaired to the rest of the planets. This is the last scale in which you will even be able to see any of the planets, so try to keep this engrained in your mind.

You may not even be able to distinguish Earth in this photo. You have in order of size The Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, then Earth, Venus, Mars, Mercury, and Pluto.

Now we have all eight planets plus Pluto for size comparison.
BTW you can click on the pic to make it bigger.
Remember, the Moon is a little bit bigger then Pluto.

Hiz4Ever and Kharbor have inspired me here.

This is a series of pics of celestrial bodies to give one an idea of how big some of theses things are, and to see on a more grand scale the wonderful universe God made of us mere humans.

This first pic is pretty self explaining. A size compairison of some of the planets of our Solar System.
Well Pluto is now officially a dwarf planet. It is actually smaller then our Moon, although not by much.

Earth is the blue one back left, and Venus to it's right.
In front of Earth is Mars, next to the right is Mercury, and finally Pluto.
