Stories about the presence of God in our lives is what makes this life so interesting. I continue to believe that the irrational is more prevalent in life than the rational. How on earth could a God who loves us give us so many problems to untangle; so many wars to understand; so many challenges in our own personal lives; so many natural disasters that boggle our mind. Miracles are an every day occurence only if we see with the eyes of faith; only if we use the God-given radar that our faith allows us to comprehend.

African Grandmothers and the Aids Virus

I am still haunted by the book of Job.

I came home from church today thinking about the words that came from the elderly lady visitor preaching.. a Canadian Grandmother speaking on behalf of the poor African grandmothers who are raising as many as 18 with the HIV virus in their one hut since there are no others to care for them.

As many as 5 thousand plus people are dying per day in Africa with this dreadful pandemic; as many as 7 thousand new victims being infected daily.

Unlike many organizations the Stephen Lewis foundation she spoke on behalf of-- give the money they raise directly to the victims bypassing all levels of government.

I pray that you will all pray with me that God gives me the strength to heal my arms and do something for these and their grandmothers as I am joining with them and signing up as a grandmother. God gave me a heart for these people a long time ago. I still recall the squalor in Trinidad when I began my days as a missionary way back in 1969 teaching in the slums with little or no resources; an open sewer at the back of my classroom that I can still smell to this day.

Yes, whoever wrote the Book of Job had a message to give. How God to this day sends forth his prophets and his missionaries.

God bless you all!

I'm reminded today when a deal has been struck to save Wall Street of the quote from the rock star Bono who -- despite his stance as a critic of religion has done his utmost to help the starving and dieing millions on the continent of Africa...

QUOTE OF THE WEEK
"It's extraordinary to me that the United States can find $700 billion to save Wall Street and the entire G8 can't find $25 billion dollars to save 25,000 who die every day from preventable diseases."

- Bono, rock star and anti-poverty activist. (Source: The American Prospect blog)

Is a Depression on the way?

The stock markets are somewhat jittery these days... thank God I don't play them. But I care about the economy and I wonder what will happen on the global markets if the United States sinks into a depression.

Well although I do have credit cards I seldom use them. Not the case with a lot of people I know. They are maxed to the hilt in plastic credit. This province is awash in brand new cars of every description-- and my guess is that over 70 per cent of them are not paid for. Likewise the houses and many of the home improvements that are taking place daily-- all on credit.

All my life I have driven vehicles that I can afford to drive. I have never once bought a car on credit. Some people claim that they simply cannot drive a vehicle that does not match their image. Hmmm... isn't that too bad.

Well in my opinion--- call me what you want, if you can't afford it-- then don't use it. Simple math. I have no issue with people people buying on credit. Don't get me wrong. But I do have an issue with people like myself who seldom if ever use it who now have to service other people's debt-- and if ordinary tax payers in the United States have to bail out people who took the risks and lost--- well sorry I think these people should be on their own.

Many people older than myself lived through the last depression. It wasn't nice. But what will bring people world wide to begin valueing the price of a day of hard labour? What's wrong with living day to day? Hand to mouth? What's wrong with driving a lemon if you have not the money to drive a Porsche? And what on earth is wrong with wearing used clothing?

If we are sinking into a global depression and bailed out yet again by the good old tax payer-- Heaven help us all-- because one day the day will come when the inevitable will catch up with us and we will then be in some big trouble.

The $700 billion bail out is unconscionable...

Giving the American government a blank cheque to pay for unacceptable risk taking of the financial industry is dead wrong.

Millions of Americans have already lost their homes over this. And they as tax payers will still be paying for this ordeal.

Ohhh wow... this is just dead wrong. Why were there no regulations on the banking industry? And why simply bail them all out without a well thought out plan?

It's totally ludicrous.
SO wealthy CEO's-- having gambled big time and lost-- get to keep their jobs while the poor line up at food banks and go on looking for work that doesn't exist?
Yikes... is there any justice in America?

NO laughing matter.. our American friends need financial help!

I pray today for some clear thinking surrounding the bail out of all these American banks and the Wall Street Empire... at a cost of nearly a trillion dollars and an overall debt load this nation will rack up nearly 12 trillion dollars in debt.

This is a very serious matter. Why should ordinary Americans pay for the crimes of the rich? IF bankers and investors on Wall street took such great risks with other people's money why should there be a governmnet that bails them out? If you or I got into financial trouble like this, we'd be on our own.

The other interesting part of this is the fact that AMerica is a capitalist country. Its pride and reputation is all about capitalism. This bail out is clearly a socialist move... infact I know of no other socialist move in the history of the United States as great as this one. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

There's no money for a national health care system but suddenly in a heartbeat the rich investors get their money back for taking a high risk gamble-- and the money comes from poor people that have lost their house, can't pay for their medication, can't afford a doctor.

Heaven help this nation as we will all be affected by it. Our Canadian economy is very dependent on the American economy because we do so much trade with them.

In Cleveland one in eleven houses are empty and the infrastructure is falling apart. These are sad times for our American friends and I shudder to think what will be next.

Let us pray...

Halleluiah..Bless the Lord... first signs of progress on the shoulder

Praise God with me please... and thank you to all who prayed with me. A doctor who told me two months ago that he honestly did not think this shoulder would heal told me today that there are some signs that I will recover. After two months in the sling he made the decision to remove the sling permanently and to commence physio this morning-- telling me that we will know within 6 months to a year if it will fully heal.

Halleluiah! How awesome is this God we worship? Believing in the impossible is what faith is all about.

Today I stood in disbelief as I saw this doctor's eyes totally dumbfounded when I told him of my feelings surrounding the shoulder.... It was so amazing to see the confrontation of Faith versus Disbelief.

This day belongs to the Lord... Jesus I thank you. For days upon days I cried out to you for help and here this day you opened a door for me; Halleluiah and all glory is yours; Halleluiah, halleluia! Ohhhh praise you Holy Spirit who stood beside me and counselled me with wisdom and support. Ohhhh thank you Father of all life on earth-- the great healer who causes the heavens to turn; the universe to unfold... who gives sight to the blind and removes the sling of the broken arm.

How I love the Lord!

Thank you my dear dear friends for the mighty mighty prayers!!

Some of us are so other centered that we seldom come from backstage and take a bow or curtsy. Yet so often these great stage directors see to it that everyone else gets prayer, praise and recognition.

Yesterday was not only Susan's birthday but also the birthday of one of the loveliest, kindest and holiest women in my view on this site-- Marilyn; better known as "Spiritfilled".

It always amazes me how considerate she is of others, how she always finds the time and energy to comfort people; to lift them up in prayer and praise. Since I have known Marilyn I have never heard her speak an unkind word of anyone...not even me when I rightly deserved it! What an amazing woman of God with a true heart for Jesus and the Holy Spirit!

Please...I ask you all, let's go out of our selfish way to say "HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARILYN!"

MAY GOD GRANT YOU MANY DAYS....MANY MANY MANY DAYS DEAR MARILYN!!

MY PRAYERS, THOUGHTS AND ABUNDANT HUGS TO YOU!

America can no longer police the world

There will soon be a shortage of green ink in the supply column, not oil-- should the United States continue its tough talk of invading Russia, Iran etc.

Each day the economic news gets grimmer of the North American stock markets. Just how many times in a year can a country print money in the trillions of dollars? And where will all of this end?

Last week Sarah Palin was talking about invading Russia. Yikes..she has yet to have a day on the job and she immediately thinks of solving a world problem with arms. We are 7 years into this war on terror and no one seems to know when it will ever end. In Canada, our own right wing Harper government is now telling voters we will be out of Afghanistan by 2011-- not something our military wants to hear. I think it has a lot to do with the price tag on war. But we all know that the real issue is the insatiable need of the industrial arms complex--- whatever would happen to their jobs should the U.S. run out of wars to fight?

The American credit card will soon be turned in-- out of necessity. The impact of the American economy's collapse is already effecting the world's economy. Big spending and big borrowing will bring down any giant to his knees. And such a shame! America's generosity to Germany and Japan following the war is just a small example of the respect world wide that the U.S. once enjoyed.

Last week Nato bombed a village in Afghanistan and killed 93 innocent civilians. Most Americans are unaware. But the reality is that this kind of tragic killing has been buried news for over seven years now. And the numbers are staggering--- and all of this for what?

Should we replace George Bush with just another tough talking Annie Oakley.... then look out! Time to invest in green ink!

American politics as seen from a Northern Canadian

I have always been a big fan of America. I attended seminary in Connecticut way back in the '60s. I had an aunt I would often visit in Buffalo from Toronto. I witnessed while in the West Indies serving as a missionary the enormous generosity of American people to the third world. Yes I love America.

Why today am I so saddened and disappointed? I cannot believe my eyes when I see what has happened to the American political scene. I am aghast!

The country as a whole has lost its swagger. People appear not to feel safe about their economy; about their security in a troubled world. In effect, I think Americans want a better government than what they now have.
What is so sad though-- is their choices. Frankly, it is so unbelievable to know that their choices have come down to Obama and McCain...

What's scared the daylights out of me recently is Sarah Paulin. I find it totally bizarre that her popularity has risen so dramaticaly on the strength of one speech... and yet she has no credentials on or off the paper. Is America caught up with good looks alone? The woman scares the daylights out of me! It's unimaginable that she could be soon left in charge of such an enormous government with little or no experience in foreign policy. From what I know she has only travelled to Canada and Mexico. Questioned on world matters, how on earth would she deal with the enormous complexities of the Middle East? Telling Russia to beware of the United States for entering Georgia is imprudent in my judgement. I doubt she knows much of her own country's wrongdoings in this matter. Only a week or more ago the United States special forces entered Pakistan crossing its borders to kill insurgents. That too was illegal by international law.

I pray today for the American people entering those polls. I pray they make the decision that will bring forth peace and prosperity. It is a sad day when one sees a world power in such terrible disarray.

My pain after over 6 weeks following the rotator cuff surgery has not subsided one bit. I may well now be in chronic pain for the rmainder of my life. My life has suddenly taken a full turn.

I've begged God to help me. I've prayed his holy throne. The reason I joined this site was to find a good woman who loves the Lord. Sadly--that has not happened and who can now blame anyone for showing interest in someone whose health has so suddenly declined?

The task now is to keep my spirits alive and not to sink into the pit of despair.

Please share with me your select biblical passages for me to hang onto.

I know that God is not finished with me yet...but it really is hard continuing with the pain and the prospect of never working again.

Thank you tll anf God bless you!

Chris
