My prayer is that my little bit of heaven will make your little bit of heaven just a little bit better. May the Lord richly bless you all, cheers.

God's Secret Agents: Jun 2, 2008 5:31 pm

It seems that Americans today are fascinated by the concept of angels, depicting them in everything from jewelry and Christmas decorations to movies and television programs.
A poll conducted by Time magazine in 1993 reported that 69 percent of American adults believed in the existence of angels, and 46 percent felt they had their own guardian angel. Also, 32 percent claimed to have felt an
angelic presence at some time in their lives.
In addition, a 2000 poll conducted by the Barna Research Group of Ventura, California, found that 81 percent of adults polled said they believed that angels exist and influence people's lives."
But is it correct to assume that angels are the nonthreatening, loving beings that many people believe them to be? That all depends.
We find instances in the Bible when angels were sent to deliver specific messages from God. They often began their messages with phrases like "Do not be afraid," or "Do not fear."
But we also find instances in which God used angels to execute His judgment, as in the case of Sodom and Gomorrah and elsewhere.
Generally, God's angels operate undercover. They don't draw attention to themselves, but instead carry out God's assignments.
One reason we may not recognize the presence of angels in our lives is because they are doing their jobs properly. Angels are actively involved in the lives of the people of God, and even in the affairs of people in general. They have a specific function and ministry in the lives of Christians.

Bo Diddley Dead at 79 Jun 2, 2008 3:48 pm

Bo Diddley, a founding father of rock 'n'
roll whose distinctive "shave and a haircut, two bits" rhythm and innovative guitar effects inspired legions of other musicians, died Monday
after months of ill health. He was 79.
Diddley died of heart failure at his home in Archer, Fla., spokeswoman Susan Clary said. He had suffered a heart attack in August, three
months after suffering a stroke while touring in Iowa. Doctors said the stroke affected his ability to speak, and he had returned to Florida to continue rehabilitation.
I do not normally share news such as this but I had the pleasure of actually meeting him in person and having breakfast with him on more then one occasion along with his daughter quite a few times.
When I had my resturant in Gainesville he would come in for time to time to eat breakfast and when things were slow he would ask me to join him and we just shoot the breeze. So I thought he and his family were awesome. I am sure the family would appreciate your prayers in this time, cheers.

A Lesson from Mary: Jun 2, 2008 1:37 pm

"Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary." Luke 1:26–27

It is difficult for us to understand, 2,000 years later, the significance of the angel Gabriel's appearance to Mary in Nazareth.
After all, he could have found the future mother of the Messiah in Rome, the capital of the greatest power on earth at the time. He could have found her in Athens, the cultural center of the world, or in Jerusalem, the spiritual center of the world.
But God chose Nazareth, an obscure but extremely wicked city that was notorious for its sin. Upon hearing that Jesus was from there, Nathanael said, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" (John 1:46).
What is amazing about Mary is that she lived a godly life in a godless place and she did so as a very young teenager. Commentators believe she may have been as young as 12, but not much older than 14.
Here she was, a nobody living in a nothing town in the middle of nowhere—precisely the kind of person that God goes out of His way to call.
He chose an unknown girl in a relatively unknown city to bring about the most-known event in human history, an event so significant that we actually divide human time by it.
Maybe you are trying to live out your faith in a godless place today, at work or school or among unbelieving family members. You're wondering if it can be done. It can.
Mary stands as an example for us, proving that it is possible to live a godly life in an ungodly world.

But Jun 2, 2008 11:14 am

Peeking out from the corner of my desk blotter is a note, slowly yellowing and bent from time.
It is a card from my mother, containing only four sentences, but with enough impact to change my life forever. In it, she praises my abilities as a writer without qualification.
Each sentence is full with love, offering specific examples of what my pursuit has meant to her and my father.
The word "but" never appears on the card, however the word "and" is there almost a half dozen times.
Every time I read it I am reminded
to ask myself if I am doing the same thing for my children. I've asked myself how many times I've "but-ted" them, and me, out of happiness. I hate to say that it's more often than I'd like to admit.
Although my oldest daughter usually got all A's on her report card, there was never a semester when at least one teacher would not suggest that she talked too much in class. I always forgot to ask them if she was making improvement in controlling her behavior, if her comments contributed to the discussion in progress or encouraged a quieter child to talk. Instead, I would come home and greet her with,
"Congratulations! Your mother and I are very proud of your accomplishment, but could you try to tone it down in class?"
The same was true of our younger daughter. Like her sister, she is a lovely, bright, articulate and friendly child. She also treats the floor of her room and the bathroom as a closet, which has provoked me to say on more than one occasion, "Yes, that project is great, but clean up your room!"
I've noticed that other parents do the same thing.
But, but, but.
Instead, what I learned from my mother is that if you really want love to flow to your children, start thinking "and, and, and..." instead.!"
The fact is that "but" feels bad "and" feels good. And when it comes to our children, feeling good is definitely the way to go. When they feel good about themselves and what they
are doing, they do more of it, building their self-confidence, their judgment and their harmonious connections to others. When everything they say, think or do is qualified or put down in some way, their joy sours and their anger soars.
This is not to say that children don't need or won't respond to their parents' expectations. They do and they will, regardless of whether those expectations are good or bad. When those expectations are consistently bright and positive and then are taught, modeled and expressed, amazing things happen. "I see you made a mistake. And I know you are intelligent enough to figure out what you did wrong and
make a better decision next time." Or, "You've been spending hours on that project, and I'd love to have you explain it to me." Or, "We work hard for our money, and I know you can help
figure out a way to pay for what you want."
It's not enough just to say we love our children. In a time when frustration has grown fierce, we can no longer afford to limit love's expression. If we want to tone down the sound
of violence in our society, we're going to have to turn up the volume on noticing, praising, guiding and participating in what is right with our children.
"No more buts!" is a clarion call for joy. It's also a challenge, the opportunity fresh before us every day to put our attention on what is good and promising about our children, and to
believe with all our hearts that they will eventually be able to see the same in us and the people with whom they will ultimately live, work and serve.
And if I ever forget, I have my mother's note to remind me.

Our Spiritual Wealth: Jun 2, 2008 6:49 am
132 Views
In the early 1900s, there was a woman named Hettie Green who was known for her miserly ways. So much so, that she was called America's greatest miser. But Hettie Green was worth a lot of money.
When she died in 1916, she left an estate valued at $100 million. Still, Hettie Green lived as through she were poverty-stricken. She would eat cold oatmeal every day to save the expense of heating water. When her son suffered a severe leg injury, she took so long trying to find a free clinic to treat him that his leg had to be amputated because of advanced infection.
She even hastened her own death by not taking proper care of herself.
She lived like a pauper when, in reality, she was a multimillionaire.
In a spiritual sense, Christians can sometimes be a lot like Hettie Green. We don't realize how much God has placed in our spiritual bank accounts. We can experience spiritual malnutrition because we have not taken advantage of the great storehouse of spiritual nourishment and resources at our disposal.
For example, we will pray for things that God has already given us. We will ask God to give us more power, yet the Scripture says, "His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, 2 Peter 1:3. Or maybe we will pray for peace, when Jesus said, "Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you" John 14:27.
It is not that we need more, as much as we simply need to utilize what we already have.
The apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesians, "Blessed be the God and Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ" Ephesians 1:3. Paul was seeking to
convey that in Christ, we have every thing we need. We are never lacking in spiritual resources.

Pilot To Co-Pilot Jun 2, 2008 6:13 am

A plane leaves Wichita airport under the control of a Jewish captain. His copilot is Chinese. It's the first time they've flown together, and an awkward silence between the two seems to indicate a mutual dislike.
Once they reach cruising altitude, the Jewish captain activates the auto-pilot, leans back in his seat, and mutters, "I don't like Chinese."
"No rike Chinese?" asks the copilot, "why not?"
"You people bombed Pearl Harbor , that's why!" "No, no," the co-pilot protests, "Chinese not bomb Peahl Hahbah! That Japanese, not Chinese."
"Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese doesn't matter, you're all alike!"
There's a few minutes of silence.
"I no rike Jews either!" the copilot suddenly announces.
"Oh yeah, why not?" asks the captain.
"Jews sink Titanic."
"What? That's insane! Jews didn't sink the Titanic!" exclaims the captain, It was an iceberg!"
"Iceberg, Goldberg, Greenberg, Rosenberg , ...no mattah... all same!

Playing by the Rules: Jun 1, 2008 8:35 pm

"Remember that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize. You also must run in such a way that you will win." 1 Corinthians 9:24

If you participate in an athletic event, you must play by the rules. You can't make your own. You can't say, "If I hit the ball eight feet, then that is a home run. These are my rules." That is not the way it works.
You must play by the rules. Even if you hit the ball out of the park, you still must cross and touch every single base. If you miss one base, that home run doesn't count, and you are disqualified.
For example, if you want to compete in track and field in the Olympics, then you must play by the rules. One rule is that athletes are prohibited from using drugs like steroids to enhance their performance. We remember the 1988
Summer Olympics when Carl Lewis won the gold medal in the 100 meters because Ben Johnson was disqualified for steroid use. Johnson didn't play by the rules.
In the same way, this race of life we are running has a rulebook. It is called the Bible. It is not for us to pick and choose what parts of the Bible we like.
You can't say, "I like certain truths in the Bible. I like the part about God's love and forgiveness. But this part about denying yourself and taking up the cross. That must not be in the original language. I don't believe it." You can't do that.
If you are going to run this race, and run to win, then you must play the rules that God has given to you in Scripture. We must play by the rules, or we will be disqualified.

Thank You Lord Jun 1, 2008 6:50 pm

Lord, thank you for this sink of dirty dishes; we have plenty of food to eat. Thank you for this pile of dirty, stinky laundry; we have plenty of nice clothes to wear. And I would like to thank you, Lord, for those unmade beds; they were so warm and comfortable last night. I know that many have no bed.
My thanks to you, Lord, for this bathroom, complete with all the splattered mirrors, soggy, grimy towels and dirty lavatory; they are so convenient. Thank you for this finger-smudged refrigerator that needs cleaning. It has served us faithfully for many years. It is full of cold drinks and enough leftovers for two or three meals.
Thank you, Lord, for this oven that absolutely must be cleaned today; it has baked so many things over the years. The whole family is grateful for that tall grass that we all enjoy in this yard. My kids are healthy and able to run and play.
Lord, the presence of all these chores awaiting me says You have richly blessed my family. I shall do them cheerfully and I shall do them gratefully. Even though I clutch my blanket and growl when the alarm rings, Thank you, Lord, that I can hear. There are many who are deaf. Even though I keep my eyes closed against the morning light as long as possible, thank you, Lord, that I can see. Many are blind.
Even though I huddle in my bed and put off rising, Thank you, Lord that I have the strength to rise. There are many who are bedridden.
Even though the first hour of my day is hectic, when socks are lost, toast is burned and tempers are short, my children are so loud, Thank you Lord for my family. There are many who are lonely.
Even though our breakfast table never looks like the pictures in magazines and the menu is at times not balanced, there are many who are hungry. Even though the routine of my job is often monotonous, Thank you Lord for the opportunity to work. There are many who have no job. Even though I grumble and bemoan my fate from day to day and wish my circumstances were not so modest, thank you Lord for life.
In Christ Jesus, and all God's people say Amen!
