My Little Bit of Heaven

Most of you are going through the same or similar trials and tribulations as I am though your stories may be a little different we are all still in the same boat. My prayer is that my little bit of heaven will make your little bit of heaven just a little bit better. May the Lord richly bless you all, cheers.

Reputation Versus Character: Oct 6, 2008 7:54 am

“But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” 1Samuel 16:2.

It was not very long after the Flood that God’s people became more concerned with exterior glitter than inward adornment. They suddenly had an urge to do something big—something so spectacular that everyone would be talking about it. And so they proposed to build the infamous tower of Babel. In short, they lost sight of the difference in value between reputation and character.
Do we in the present era—centuries after the incidence of Babel—understand this difference? Reputation is what people say you are; character is what you really are.
Reputation is a manufactured thing, nailed together, bolted, hammered, and plated. Character is a piece of solid marble.
When you come to a new community, you have a reputation; when you leave you have established a character. Your reputation may be learned in an hour; but your character may not come to light for years. If you want a job, you need a reputation; but in order to keep that job you must have character.
Reputation is short lived, like a pretty daisy in a bud vase; character is like a strong, tall redwood tree. It is lasting. Reputation makes you rich or makes you poor; character makes you happy or it makes you miserable.
Which are you building, my friend—a good reputation, or a good character? May God bless you, as you strive to obtain a sterling character—one pleasing in God’s sight!
