My Little Bit of Heaven

Most of you are going through the same or similar trials and tribulations as I am though your stories may be a little different we are all still in the same boat. My prayer is that my little bit of heaven will make your little bit of heaven just a little bit better. May the Lord richly bless you all, cheers.

Think Before You Act Aug 7, 2008 6:55 pm

Today before you say an unkind word -
Think of someone who can't speak.

Before you complain about the taste of your food -
Think of someone who has nothing to eat.

Before you complain about your husband or wife -
Think of someone who's crying out to GOD for a companion.

Today before you complain about life -
Think of someone who went too early to heaven.

Before you complain about your children -
Think of someone who desires children but they're barren.

Before you argue about your dirty house someone didn't clean or sweep -
Think of the people who are living in the streets.

Before whining about the distance you drive -
Think of someone who walks the same distance with their feet.

And when you are tired and complain about your job -
Think of the unemployed, the disabled, and those who wish they had your job.

But before you think of pointing the finger or condemning another -
Remember that not one of us is without sin and we all answer to one MAKER.

We all need to be reminded at times that no matter how bad things are that there are always others that have it worse than we do. Love you!

Mr. Jefferson: Gentlemen, the summer grows hot, and it is essential that we complete this declaration of independence.
Mr. Franklin: Wait a minute, Thomas. I have to reboot here.
Mr. Jefferson: That's all right, Ben. We'll go on without you. Has everyone had a chance to look at the draft I posted yesterday?
Mr. Sherman: Not yet, Thomas, I've been having Notes replication problems.
Mr. Adams: Here, Roger, I brought a hard copy.
Mr. Sherman: Thanks. Saaaaay, nice font.
Mr. Adams: Do you like it? I downloaded it off Colonies Online just last week.
Mr. Jefferson: Gentlemen! There is work to be done. I fear our document will soon leak out.
Mr. Livingston: Too late, Thomas. There's already a bootleg circulating. I saw it posted on alt.georgeIII.stinks last night.
Mr. Franklin: @#$$%^$# General Protection Fault!
Mr. Adams: Ben, you might try upgrading to Windows 75. It solved that problem for me.
Mr. Sherman: Thomas, the part here about the Acts of Pretended Legislation; have you considered using bullets to air out the text?
Mr. Jefferson: I can fix that easily enough. Drat! I've spilled candle wax on my keyboard again.
Mr. Adams: You know, Thomas, that wouldn't happen if you'd buy an active-matrix screen.
Mr. Franklin: Hard-disk failure?!? Aw, criminy!
Mr. Livingston: Are you sure it's "unalienable rights"? My spell checker recommends "unassailable".
Mr. Jefferson: Can we stick to the substance of the document, please? Shoot. Low battery. Anyone got a spare power cable?
Mr. Sherman: What have you got, a Toshiba? No, mine isn't compatible.
Mr. Franklin: Hello, PCs Philadelphia? What does it mean when the floppy drive buzzes? OK, I'll hold.
Mr. Livingston: The "In Congress" part here at the top; have you thought about blowing that up really big and maybe centering it in 72 point Helvetica?
Mr. Jefferson: Not a bad idea. Aw, nuts! Word macro virus! I can't save the file.
Mr. Franklin: That's all right, Thomas. We can manage. Here, borrow my quill pen.

A Concern Christian Aug 7, 2008 12:09 pm

A traveling clergyman in a strange town asked a young man the way to the post office. When the obliging boy gave him the necessary directions, the preacher thanked him, then added, "You seem to be a bright young man. How would like to listen to my sermon tonight so that I may show you the way to heaven?" "You're going to show me the way to heaven?" the boy asked, "Why you don't even know the way to the post office!"
The boy has given us a point to ponder the very next time we are at the crossroads where we must choose between Jesus' wisdom and our own. On our journey to fulfillment how can we possibly trust our own independent direction when we don't even know our way to the post office, so to speak?
To live one's life for Jesus' sake begins with acknowledging dependence on God not only for life but also for the way of life. We need to recognize that we are given to know what we need to know. We need to acknowledge that we don't have to know all there is to know because God is in control; God's plan is in effect; God's Will be done.
As Jesus' loyal follower the journey is a risky one. What are the risks? If you're on the right road, you'll never have to ask!

A concerned Christian has said,

A Religion
that does nothing,
that gives nothing,
that costs nothing,
that suffers nothing,
is worth nothing!"

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” - Philippians 4:13

Are You Sure?? Aug 7, 2008 11:39 am

"Whoever will save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it" (Matthew 16:25).

A little boy was about to visit the dentist for the first time. He wasn't too sure he was going to like this adventure. For several days before "D-Day," his mother tried to reassure him and to explain the procedure as much as possible. The day finally arrived. After a nervous wait in the reception room, the child was escorted to the large chair. The dentist reached for his instruments and told the little boy that he was about to clean his teeth. The child, bearing up bravely, asked in a trembling voice, "Are you sure you know what you're doing? That doesn't look like a toothbrush to me.
The little boy's reaction to the dentist is not unlike Peter's reaction to Jesus in today's Gospel Lesson. Jesus tells Peter it is time to go to Jerusalem where the ordeal of His Passion will shortly begin. He announces that He will "suffer greatly there at the hands of the leaders, the chief priests and scribes," and that He will "be put to death and raised up on the third day." What is Peter's reaction? "Master! God forbid that any such thing ever happen to You." Or in the little boy's parlance, "Master, are You sure You know what You're saying? Are You sure You know what You're doing?"
Jesus knew what He was saying; He knew what He had to do. Peter and the others only thought they knew what Jesus ought to be saying and doing. They had left their homes, their jobs, their families to follow Jesus. Jesus had lived among them. Jesus had opened up a whole new way of life to them. Jesus had shown them miraculous signs of God's power working through Him. Jesus had them looking forward to the initiation of the Kingdom of God which He often talked about. But when He began to warn them of an impending death, they refused to listen. They had other plans for the completion of Jesus' life and ministry.
There was a man who decided to rob a bank. "It would all go according to plan," he reasoned, the perfect crime. For many months he plotted out the details of his proposed "caper." He knew the exact time that he would enter the bank. He knew precisely where each of the bank employees would be positioned at that time. He carefully diagramed his escape route. Finally, on the appointed day, he carried out his plan to a point. Sometime later, as he stood before the Criminal Courts Judge, he was asked if he had anything to say before sentence was pronounced. "Yes I do you honor," he said, "my plan was all so perfect. The only thing I didn't figure on was getting that speeding ticket. I guess you can't know everything!" True enough! But most of our real and lasting problems are with us not because we do not know everything but because we think we do.
Once a man embarked on a walking trip to the town of Sunnyville. Arriving at a fork in the road, he was annoyed to discover a signpost with one arrow marked "Manor Town" pointing to a wide, smoothly-paved road and another arrow marked "Sunnyville" pointing to a narrow, rocky, unpaved trail. Suddenly he had a bright idea. He climbed up the post, reversed the signs, shimmied down, and proceeded merrily on his way along the smooth road. On and on and on he walked. But he never reached Sunnyville! When Jesus says "Follow Me," He points us in the direction of the rocky trail. The journey into His new life is a hazardous one. There are trials to be endured, obstacles to overcome, risks to be taken. In Jesus' own words we must follow Him "through the narrow gate. The gate to damnation is wide, but how narrow is the gate that leads to life, how rough the road, and how few there are who find it" (Mt.7:12-14).
Shallow Christians are busy, busy, busy trying to outrun Jesus, out-plan Jesus, out-think Jesus.

(Are You sure You know what You're doing, Lord?")

"If a man wishes to come after Me, he must deny his very self, take up His cross, and begin to follow in My footsteps" (Mt.16:24).

(Are You sure You know what You're doing, Lord?")

"Unless you change and become like little children, you will not enter the Kingdom of God" (Mt.18:3).

(Are You sure You know what You're doing, Lord?")

"Whoever loves father or mother, son or daughter, more than Me is not worthy of Me" (Mt.l0:37).

(Are You sure You know what You're doing, Lord?")

"If you bring your gift to the altar and there recall that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift at the altar, go first to be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift" (Mt.5:33).

(Are You sure You know what You're doing, Lord?")

"You have heard the command, 'You shall not commit adultery.' What I say to you is: Anyone who looks lustfully at a woman has already committed adultery with her in his thoughts" (Mt.5:2.

(Are You sure You know what You're doing, Lord?")

"My command to you is: love your enemies; pray for your persecutors. This will prove that you are sons of your heavenly Father" (Mt.5:44-45).

(Are You sure You know what You're doing, Lord?)
