my self pity Mar 27, 2009 6:16 am

People are frequently trying to cheer me up. I sometimes try myself to cheer up. But, I love being miserable, depressed, and sad. I feel so deeply embarrassed. Why? Simply, it took not just an angel to save me, but the Son of God Himself?

Once in a while I break lose with a laugh, and a smile, but then self control gets the best of me and I am back into my sorry tent. So, let me alone. Let me wallow in my self pity and be happy. No, I am not clinically depressed. But it makes me sick that the rest of you are so happy. That depresses me even more.

evolution Mar 26, 2009 8:56 pm

The Bible says God Himself created in six days the heavens and the earth. He didn't take millions of years and the great diversity of species were all created within this six day period and were not doing natural selection and chewing up and devouring each other. 95% of this diversity of species is now extinct. The few surviving species now left one earth are fighting for their life.

Science studies what it can observe. It has been found that space and time change when approaching light speed. This is being confirmed over and again.

The Lord stretched out the heavens. The great amounts of distance in the universe, and the time it takes now to go from point A to B could have occurred when the Lord stretched out the heavens at light speed. Time at this speed is also altered. At sub light speed time and distance appear much too great for six days of creation, but at light speed this is different as space and time can be greatly altered in relation to the beginning point.

When you throw out the Bible, then genes and natural selection or the survival of the best and most hardy is all science has left. The problem is that evolution is the emphasis in education. As Christians we have the Bible as well as what is being observed today. We can not force the Bible explanation on people, but we can in our church's still teach it as a matter of faith. Let's not deny in Church what God's word clearly says.

Evolution can not prove what happened at the beginning of creation any more than we christians can prove what happened. In some ways the Bible and evolution contradict each other, but also in some ways evolution confirms the Bible account of decay and extinction of species and the survival now of only those hardy enough to last.

I believe that when God reveals how He created the heavens and earth in six days then what happened back then and what's observed today will all fit and make sense.

harvard university Mar 26, 2009 3:20 pm

It was 1639 and the young clergyman, John Harvard, gave his 400 books and half his estate to this college which was then named after him. Over a 200 years later along came Charles William Eliot who for 40 years, 1869-1909, served as president and changed the face of higher education forever. Harvard now is always at the top or near the top of international university rankings.

The main thing I like about this university, from which so many of our national leaders come,is that it treats students not as idiots whose minds need filling, but like they have a brain that needs to be activated. Harvard helps people learn to think. It gives them not so much an education as the beginning of education by giving them experience in personal thinking. Students are individually respected, and given a briefing on the best thinking of the world, and in turn they are asked to learn to ask their own questions of issues today. One of the most important things Harvard students learn is to think. Once a person learns that, the rest is academic.

Watch out for harvard graduates. Our current president is a graduate, as many before him. One of the most liked courses there is the one on justice. This is one of the four cardinal virtues.

As a church people we can do this kind of thinking and even better. Just as computer hardware needs the guidance and instructions of software to function, we christians can provide the guidance this ever growing technical world needs. We too can ask critical questions and share our thinking on BC.

Of all people on earth, I honestly believe we christian people can do better thinking than those whose gifts are not Spirit animated. First we have to get past the issue of salvation, and then ask the questions. Life is a journey. We make progress. Life's complexities are not usually resolved wholesale all at once, but over time by persistence and in stages.

this saturday, 8:30pm, in 4,000 world cities, lights around you will go out Mar 26, 2009 2:01 pm

the non essential lights around many people and in many buildings on the entire earth at 8:30pm your local time will be intentionally turned off for one hour. the symbolic purpose is to yearly draw attention to the importance of caring for our environment. If our planet goes down, all the other issues like the economy, and health, war, marriage, don't really matter do they?

I am going to have fun and happily participate by turning off a few lights and things that won't matter for an hour. Its fun and serious as well to join in this world emphasis.

The hope is that so many people taking part will convince our leaders to also pay attention and lead us into a cleaner more green world, and the sooner the better.

I am sorry you have to leave. I am sorry we didn't help you more. Most of us I believe don't pay attention to your detractors. I checked on the SDA and its a fine church in so many ways. I am into some of the health practices and seventh day of the week practices not from a legal stance but from a privilege point of view. Its one thing to have a lot to say, but temperance is important too. Even Jesus could not give His healing to many people. Some just didn't want to be healed. So, love teaches us to respect that. Claudia the only person you need to apologize to is yourself for paying attention to your attackers. In the future, ignore such people. Serve Jesus and the people who are interested in listening.

Jesus is watching you Mar 25, 2009 1:58 pm

He said he is with us always till the end. the scriptures frequently talk about His Spirit in us and as Head of the Church.

Jesus is watching what you say about each other, how you say it, and knows why. Only when christians love each other are we different than the world.

Jesus is watching. day, night, always He is watching His Church people. He knows when you are sleeping. He knows when you are awake. He knows what you need.

Jesus is watching. Do you want to hurt Him? Do you want to make Him sad? Do you want to love more as He does?

Jesus is watching. He is watching YOU.

the beautiful 10 commandments Mar 24, 2009 5:59 am

Perhaps we look at the 10 commandments and groan. It was a long long time ago in a far far away place that the world was beautiful then. It was paradise. THE Creator was extremely happy. The morning stars sang together. The creatures were happy together. Animals did not bite, devour, and consume each other. Marriage was perfect. There was bliss. The people God had created were satisfied. There was no stealing, no killing, no discontent, but only respect for Him and He for them. It was a wonderland by night and idyllic by day. The weather was perfect. Love was everywhere and everywhere was peace. Work was easy and vacations were frequent. It was beautiful then, and it will be again, even better.

One foot in world, one foot not Mar 23, 2009 1:34 pm

As if life on earth were not complicated, now we christians have to deal with two worlds, as we live like it or not, in two separate but coexistent worlds.

There are always more questions than answers, as each answer raises more questions. Even within the church we can not ever agree on a right answer for everyone. Same sex marriage, abortion, income distribution, etc. are issues that perplex our church and our society. My point is the church has often answers for the present that result from Jesus and the United States has often answers for the present that result from the United States Constitution.

The point is that Jesus and the Constitution are not one and the same. Jesus taught us to respect our constitution but not force our christian view on it even if at some point we disagree with it. We have enough to deal with just inside the church alone.

One of the most important things we can do today as christians is to ask critical questions of basic church issues and also society issues. For example, what is really the bottom line basis of salvation? Is it membership in a right denomination? Is it simply trusting in Jesus? Is it trust in Jesus plus acting it out? Is it trust plus following the Spirit? How can we know what the Spirit wants?

There are probably no answers that we can all agree on, but can't we discuss, as we must, in a respectful rather than dogmatic way? Remember discussion always stops when people feel
threatened and so become defensive. Once people become defensive, they no longer hear others.

Sick of the bickering? Let't ban together and stop them ! Mar 20, 2009 6:45 am

The whole church speaking with one voice can make a lasting impression on those who bicker. If you don't like the continual arguing lets step in and post on their blog, "right or wrong, please stop the incessant bickering."

As a group with enough of us saying so, we can stop it. Please don't sit on the sidelines and do nothing. If you are sick of it, then say so. I for one am sick of it. I worry most about new people here and also the ones who are targets and also the ones who continuously argue as to what it is doing to their spiritual life.

As a group lets step up and say so. This bickering is poisoning the atmosphere here. If enough of us say something to those always arguing, I feel it will stop. But, if not, we should ban them from our blogs until they respect the wishes of the Church here.
