MY DAY IN THE THORNS!

And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. -LUKE 8:14
----------------------------------------
(This is a true story from last week and my reflection on it)

By the time I arrived it was already sweltering. The sun was high overhead and the humidity added insult to its injury. I set about my fathers garage gathering what tools might help.
Chainsaw, pruning shears, multiple bottles of water, sunscreen.
The work was tough and of the exhausting sort. A few of the trees I fell were up to 24" in circumference. The chainsaw made rather light work of them, it was I who was struggling. The canopy up high was erased rather quickly. But it was wading through the thick underbrush that took most of my effort. And snagged away my at my time.
After years of inattention the thorns and pricker bushes had entangled and snared the west facing fence row of my fathers property. A chainsaw was quite ineffective against them, though it had just fallen some nice trees. In order for me to effectively rid them I had to carefully and delicately maneuver myself within reach of the base - at the soil.
No matter how daintily I went about the task I was stuck and rasped by thorns. Arms, legs, even torso through my thick cotton shirt. Sweaty, sun burnt (because their low lying structure doesn't afford any uv blockage) and tired- I eventually had to call it a day. I needed rest.--------------------------------------------
We all need Sabbath- rest. Our Father sent us to do a job. And this job is spiritual. What often times hinders us from completing this job, is not necessarily the large glaring obstructions that stands in our pathway. Sometimes it is the lowly things that restrict and entangle us greatly.
When we are too busy worrying,
or too busy working extra hours to make that new SUV payment,
or always too busy with entertainment to study the Word, pray and be with family...
we are shirking the duties of the spirit. For what our flesh tells us is pleasurable, often can be like thorns choking our spirit.The good news;
Christ already bore our thorns as a crown. And in Him alone- do we find a Sabbath- a rest.GB,

Continue to be faithful, deliverance is near, obedience must be seen, be an unconditional blessing as He continues to bless you.

This time is short, serve Him well, serving all.

Without exception.

Interesting you should say this, coz just this morning I was saying to God, that I have been too busy with work this week to have the quality time with Him that I have been spending until now. I get so tired at the end of the day. I do spend time with Him first thing in the morning, but I'm tired then too LOL! So I am going to work at resting with Him as much as I can coz it's then that we get refreshment....thanks for cementing this thought for me, beautiful boy!

Good post SF! My garden is a perfect illustration of your point. At the moment there are tiny weeds poking their heads out through the gravel, and if I deal with them in the next day or two they will come out easily { I hope! } However if I leave them for any length of time they will become much harder to remove - perhaps not quite as big as the trees you had to cut down but tough enough for a gardenophobic like me to deal with! It's the same with our spiritual lives where small issues have a tendency to grow into big things if they are not dealt with.

Awww Mom! So glad you could put it to use. Remember what Christ said concerning the sabbath..."is it lawful to do good or bad on the sabbath?" Nothing wrong with being busy, so long as you're walkig in the spirit. He also asked is the "Sabbath for man or God?" So we do need to refresh with rest too.

Hey Peter, thanks my Brother. Indeed. A gardenophobic...lol! Well hey at least now you have a great excuse for the shirking of your gardening chores...just say you're "cultivating an allegorical sermon on tares!" I think it just might work.LOL.

Good to see you brother! Yes so true. It's amazing the allegories/parables that were brought into the physical...right down to the thorns!

After facing this ordeal... I would say you are ready! You are now prepared to face the rigors of the institution people commonly call marriage... LoL j/k well, sort of... hopefully it wont be that bad for you.

Any day that you do not spend in the thorns- count it all joy!

God's love reaches all- growing means thinking outside the box... love one another
