In our Christian context we have always to discern among several meanings of this mysterious word... Today, I would always start here: We have human "love" and we have God's Love. Human love alone is always imperfect, while God's love is perfect. So far have we learned! Didn't the Greek have several words for it and Christian started using the least used word? Human love alone (how sweet the person can appear) is always based/grounded in fluctuating sentiments, emotions, feelings, passions... etc. that vary according the stimuli sensed and the subjective experiences stored. Man oneself can indeed improve his/her conduct, character, personality, sensitiveness, morals etc. etc. but that person will always be subject to debacle. Isn't so? Two pure hearts truly renewed by His Love & Grace, and continually purifying, are less probable to slide downhill - or even better, spiritually inconceivable! (Note that with "truly renewed" I intend where True Faith is supposed to increase and His blessing is clearly "noticeable". Not hypocritical religious devotion or zealous attitude.) How many scandalous stories have been heard even in Christian circles, of priests, ministers, pastors... you name it. So how can one be absolutely sure not to be deceived and fall prey to those who pretend... as Susan commented??? By our nature we can't! The absolute is only God! As faith in Him should be absolute! Well, don't we know "already" that: much - especially what we desire mostly - with man is impossible, but with God everything is possible??? And when we "also" know that God is Spirit, and we also are spiritual beings... oh my, oh my... then let's learn and make use of that "sense", that "unique perception", that "gift"... What are we waiting for??? At least we have drawn a line here. More later! I wanted to be short!!! Well.....A spiritually bonded friendship that overflows in love just automatically comes that way because each finds great joy in the other. Each wants to please. I would want to do all those things automatically without expectations or anticipations. Of course your loved one will surely do all of these things (or part of them), and many many more that you don't need to make a list for!! And that "love", being a reciprocal love, would grow proportionally by the love of the other one. There are no answer books for this. One can't predict all details, neither one should. Wouldn't that actually be impossible? Adding the spiritual life (with the premises mentioned earlier) IT IS possible to receive God's love from another human being, 'cause God's Spirit would exalt the "soul" of each other!!! Hence, when the "earthly problems" start to arise and trying to become rampant... well, that's where "that" spiritual question and guidance will be finally set on the test and reveal its true genuineness or not. On that fundamental and steady grounds for Love, it certainly doesn't sound to me as a utopia or sciences fiction!!! Does it? Give it some "proughts"!!! huh?? Ooops.. prayers&thoughts! I think humans should try out all "theories" before rejecting any. I don't have those qualities,  I must have inherited the rest of the mix,  in fact, my siblings often tell me I was just left on the doorstep!!! But if you would prefer another over me.....it can be easily arranged, Mr. Gary Fickle!!
