How well did you control your spending this Christmas?

Curious how BC'ers did with their credit cards this Christmas. If the survey indicates a need, I will do some postings from an old sermon series on personal finances...
cash and carry only, no credit card debt here
used the credit card, but it was a plan, I will pay them off in January
oh my, what have I done...I charged and charged...have no idea how much I owe

I have credit cards. I just don't really ever use them.

This year's Christmas was spent just right!!

I have always lived the Cash and Carry life because if I don't have the cash for it then I don't need to buy it.

You ususally only see me buy something after I have watched and learned the prices of that item and then watch to see where I can get it for the lowest price. Even if I have to buy it on clearance off season.

I think of getting a bargain as winning the lottery. I am not and never have been a spend thrift.

Maybe that's why my house doesn't look like Martha Stewarts or Better Homes and Garden. But I try and it looks lovely and neat, that's the most important thing. I am told people admire my home because it's so cute and pretty. Which makes me feel good because I try.

I see people throw money on the best "Pottery Barn" style houses. Well, who wouldn't want that but the realistic do with what they have and make it loved just the same.

Now that's more important to me. That a home emits love and not the smell of money with the most expensive things.

    Quoting busykydad:
cash only, cool! spending half as much as you thought, cooler! going shopping again...you lost me there! Did you know malls are man hell on earth?
Yeah agreed on the man hell on earth.. but how am I ever gunna teach J (my son) the art of patience if I don't make him wait for a while in queues while I wait to pay?

And like all mothers, I have my off switch, and shopping is fun when filled with plenty of drink stops and such..

I had bought my presents early and paid cash for all of them. I had all my shopping done by the 9th of November. Only by His grace.

I actually did well this Christmas. I did very little "buying" except for my grown kids, younger niece and nephews and my mom.

I was able to go to my "gift box" in my closet for most of my gifts to the older nieces, nephews and surprise guests (there always seems to be a few of those). Having a box to put gifts in throughout the year when finding clearance items and such is very helpful for future Birthdays and Christmas.

Baking was a good fill in for those that love my holiday baking as well. So no charging for this gal. That stopped years ago! PRAISE THE LORD!!
