This happened near to where I live, and I for one will not be shopping at Home Depot anytime soon. I hope you'll join me in giving Lowe's your patronage. OKEECHOBEE, FL -- In one week, Trevor Keezer has turned from a cashier at a small town Home Depot, to the subject of late night comedians' monologues, countless internet blogs, and 24-hour cable news debates. "It's spread like a wildfire," said the 20-year old Okeechobee native. "I wanted to get my message out and I've done that." All of this attention began when Keezer was fired from his job at the Home Depot last Friday after he refused to remove a button from his uniform which read: "One nation under God, indivisible." The familiar line from the pledge of allegiance was set on the backdrop of an American flag. Keezer said his managers at Home Depot didn't mention the button for over a year, except one who said she liked it. Then, last month, when he started bringing his Bible to work, a manager confronted him about the button and told him it would have to go. Keezer refused to remove the button because he said it was a tribute to his brother, and Army Specialist headed for Iraq, and a way to express his Christian faith. His termination, first reported in WPTV, was quickly reported by news organizations across the country. It become the subject of talk shows and news programs including FOX News, MSNBC, CNN, The View, and the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. Keezer hired North Palm Beach lawyers Kara Skorupa and Karen Jorgensen to represent him in a religious discrimination suit against the Home Depot. He has received dozens of calls and emails of support from across the country, many from people who think Keezer is a victim of political correctness gone too far. "I'm upset and I'm mad," said Robert Burrell, a residential contractor from Indiana who saw Keezer's story on TV. "We're fighting two wars right now and the fact that 'one nation under God' is offensive to anyone....I mean you can't even say Merry Christmas anymore in stores and I'm just fed up with that." Burrell says he plans to boycott the Home Depot because of what happened to Trevor Keezer. Tammy Cassells, a designer from South Florida, also said she planned to boycott the Home Depot because of this case. Home Depot spokesperson Craig Fishel continues to defend the company's decision. "We respect the opinions of all of our customers and will continue to communicate that we don’t fire people for being religious or patriotic," said Fishel. "We have a long-standing policy where only company-provided pins and badges can be worn on our aprons. With 300,000 associates, we have to have consistent rules." Keezer says he did not ask anyone to boycott the company, but he encourages people to "stand up for what they believe in." When he was fired last week, Keezer told WPTV he was not worried because he was confident "God will provide" for him. In the past week, he says he has received seven job offers in his home town. May God bless Him for standing up for what he believes in! NOTHING that happens, happens for NOTHING ![]() I Am Truly Blessed By Each Of You Here At BC, Yes, Even You!!! What's In YOUR Past? I don't go to Home Depot either - I've always preferred Lowe's and now I have another good reason not to go. I'm proud of Keezer for standing up for his faith!! AMEN!! When I worked at Kohl's a couple years ago I told people Merry Christmas and never got in trouble for it - altho many were afraid to say it and only said "Happy holidays" instead!! Blessings!! How can we NOT praise Him - Marilyn

Hi Terri, I wonder how many companies that are boycotted actually understand what they did, and if they did, it's usually a manager that made a decision on behalf of the company. Drifter commented about company policy. I wouldn't want to be staring at a pin that says buddha wants you.

I would probably have to side with Home Depot in this case. Not that I don't understand your stance. More than likely the employee signed an agreement to abide by his company's policies. If he was wearing a pin or label not authorized, then he is violating his own contractural signature. And I can also understand Home Depot's policy. In this case he is wearing something we agree with. But for them to open the door to 'anything' would be a pandora's box for sure in today's world. I have frequently said the corporations are the new nations and that is too involved to go into here. But it applies. Somehow I've learned how to listen to the sound of the sun going down. ~ R. Hi Terrie, Thanks for sharing. I never go to Home Depot anyway, so I will just continue doing what I have been doing. hehehehe. It is good to hear things like this though, so I can pick and choose with choices that are informed. What have you heard about Walmart? I get lots of mixed messages about this one! Love to you two newlyweds. Romans 14 verse 5 One person regards one day holier than other days, and another regards them all alike. 3 Each must be fully convinced in his own mind.
