ok,it appears that some of the parts that go inside the computer "case"(this is the box that holds the interior components of a computer) are not made in the USA. because we are eventually going to be tested on these components, and the dimensions are in millimeters!!!!! talk about making something complicated! so,to help me study,i decided to just convert millimeters into a more manageable unit. like inches,or even tenths of a foot, you know we are in america lets speak american, please!! for example the "power supply" this is a box that fits in the computer case, that takes wall voltage(between 110 volts and 220 volts)and converts into more manageable amounts of electricity, for the sensitive components inside the case. so,these boxes have a chart that uses a "form factor". this form factor basically shows the different sizes and shapes of the power supply boxes. the funny thing is that all the measurements are in millimeters. i will never be able to learn it,unless i can find out what a millimeter looks like! ![]() sooooo,i took an old survey formula and calculated the size of a meter compared to a foot. basically there are 3.28083333 feet in a meter. sooooo,i merely devide that by 1000 to get the size of a millimeter . then i multiply that by 150, BINGO!!! I NOW KNOW HOW WIDE THE POWER SUPPLY BOX IS. It is 6 inches wide!! ok,so 100 millimeters equals approximately 4 inches or 0.32808 feet! |

You're making it too complicated, Marcos! When I was trying to learn the inch, lbs and oz system, I found out at the end that it is better NOT to convert at all, but learn and keep the two separately! The approximate UNITS are already in use in standards! For instance: when you buy a quart of milk, we buy one liter. For one pound, half a kilo (or 500 grams); for one yard, one meter, and so on. They are not equal, but the closest one can come. I would say however, that the metric system is much, much easier, since one always divides in tenth, hundredth or thousandth, NOT 4, 8, 12, 16, that each gives different numbers. Only when one needs to be so precise as to one hair size, we can use millimeters or less. Even 1/25 of one millimeter and so on, and then microns, nanometers, etc. In the scientific and technological fields one needs to be extremely exact, and the decimal system makes that easier. Look: Milli=1000; centi=100 and deci=10 So actually 1 meter being equal to 1000 millimeters, to 100 centimeters and to 10 decimeters, makes the proportions always constant. One uses the closest proportion to what one is measuring. Get the idea? Now look what would happen if we were calculating centimeters. With your system you would increase the height of one person of 150 centimeters (or better said, 1 meter and a half (= m 1.5 or 1m and 50 cm), making him/her taller by ca. 1 inch. When we know that: • 1 inch is equal to 2.54 centimeters (or equal to 25.4 millimeters, or 0.254 meters... notice how the dec. point is moving, while the numbers are the same), and • 1 centimeter is equal to 10 millimeters • 1 centimeter is equal to 0.39370079 of 1 inch • 1 millimeter would be 0.039370079 of 1 inch the math will give accordingly: 0.39370079 x 150 = 59.055118 (that is 59 inches, (not 60 = 5 feet) or 0.039370079 x 150 = 5.9055118 (that is 5.9 inches, (not 6 = 0.5 feet) 2.54 x 60 = 152.4 (almost two and a half centimeters taller, which is almost 1 inch) 25.4 x 6 = 152.4 (for millimeters) Conclusion: 6 inches are equal to 150 millimeters PLUS a lil bit less of 0.1 (1/10) inch. Exactly 152.4 millimeters. But 60 inches (5 feet) are equal to 150 centimeter PLUS a lil bit less of 1 (ONE) inch. That is 152.4. Would you say that person is 5 feet tall, or 5'1" ?? And don't know who actually made it more complicated, LOL!, but I think I've made my point! We do the same with grams and kilos, and liters. A piece of cake! Piece/Peace be with you! ![]()

Would you mind taking my alegbra exam for me... please... about 25 years ago,but now a days i dont undertsand it too well. i think it is because it has so many steps,i can usually figure them out in my head,it seems faster then doing them on paper! ![]()
