NEW BLOG titLE

The following is part of a comment I made on Eli_777's blog about her having found her husband and I seriously considered changing my handle to something having to do with "phoenix" the bird. I really do like some of the description included below from Wikipedia.

The phoenix was supposedly a bird that, when it died, rose again from it's ashes, or a new phoenix was born from the ashes. This was used to symbolize Christ and the resurrection in early Christian art.

It also speaks to me of the verse Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Then too, it was supposedly a bird with gold and red plumes which goes right along with my current handle of redbird.

But, having discovered that it would require me to close this account and start another, and being the lazy person that I am, not wanting to go to all that trouble, I have decided to just do something to include it in my Blog title.

You know that I love you, but if you're gonna be like this then I'm gonna have to get me some matches and change my handle to phoenix, as in the fire breathing Bird.

In ancient Egyptian mythology and in myths derived from it, the phoenix or phœnix is a mythical sacred firebird.

Said to live for 500 or 1461 years (depending on the source), the phoenix is a bird with beautiful gold and red plumage. At the end of its life-cycle the phoenix builds itself a nest of cinnamon twigs that it then ignites; both nest and bird burn fiercely and are reduced to ashes, from which a new, young phoenix arises. The new phoenix embalms the ashes of the old phoenix in an egg made of myrrh and deposits it in the Egyptian city of Heliopolis ("the city of the sun" in Greek). The bird was also said to regenerate when hurt or wounded by a foe, thus being almost immortal and invincible — a symbol of fire and divinity.

Although descriptions (and life-span) vary, the phoenix (Bennu bird) became popular in early Christian art, literature and Christian symbolism, as a symbol of Christ, and further, represented the resurrection, immortality, and the life-after-death of Jesus Christ.

Originally, the phoenix was identified by the Egyptians as a stork or heron-like bird called a benu, known from the Book of the Dead and other Egyptian texts as one of the sacred symbols of worship at Heliopolis, closely associated with the rising sun and the Egyptian sun-god Ra. From Wikipedia

as much as I like Phoenixes..I like butterflies better..but what I don't like is geckoes that choose to die at my front door..this is the second one in three days..the first one I didn't mind removing because it's body had shrivelled up but this one is very freshly dead and still reeks..I am not game to touch it.I am glad you chose to call yourself Phoenix and not gecko

I really like it as well, sis. And the more I re-read the above info from Wikipedia the more I like it.

This phrase was one I missed before. "The bird was also said to regenerate when hurt or wounded by a foe, thus being almost immortal and invincible — a symbol of fire and divinity."

It makes me think of the regeneration that God does in our lives, the healing of the hurts and wounds we suffer from the enemy of our souls. It also makes me think of the fact that through Him we have the promise of eternal life. That is not the same thing a immortality as immortality is of the flesh, not the spirit. But it does mean that we will live forever, with Him!
