Pete, I just saw this Descriptionand I wanted to respond.

I too do all that I can.

When my truck is running I provide transportation for those who don't have any to wherever they need to go.

I go to visit older ladies who are handicapped and help with chores and personal hygiene things they need done as often as I am able to do so. I also go shopping for them, using their vehicles when they need for me to do so, if my truck is not running.

I find it so sad that those like you and I who are disabled/handicapped ourselves, living on next to nothing, are the ones who are doing this type of service for the Lord while the able-bodied and financially stable seem to sit back in their easy chairs without lifting a finger. Perhaps it is simply because we know what it is to be in this situation, the loneliness, the despair, the feelings of worthlessness and being no longer needed, wanted, useful.

To those of you who wish to do something about this problem, please DO NOT raise money and hand it over to someone else to "take care of the problem". Get out there and do something about it yourselves. Set aside some time to make a difference in someone's life in your community.

This is what I believe our dear brother was trying to get across. This throwing money at the problem has been the problem all along. money cannot show these people love, money cannot provide these people with a little time to have someone to talk to. money cannot be in relationship with these people. And these are the things that these folks need. To know that someone cares enough to take the time.

God Bless you dear brother, for your sacrifices to our Lord.

Redbird,
I just reread this post and I must say I hope I didn't offend you by my suggestion of people giving money. I have personally seen this strategy work very well and meet people's needs.

Some problems need to be solved on all fronts. Sometimes the only way a need can be met is with personal attention such as giving rides, making meals, just visiting. You know, you do this. Sometimes money is sorely needed. Sometimes both are needed.

You are very valuable in all that you do and I hope you never feel
not useful or worthless because that is just the accuser. You are very
important, here and everywhere you go. Love you, Rhonda

BTW: you have been strongly on my mind. Thinking of you and praying for you.

Even when someone is giving money they are caring enough the give the time. Unless they are plucking money from a tree they had to put in hours to earn that money didn't they? Not everyone has the same mission. The Body is made up of many different parts. Some may not have extra money so they donate time. Some may not have time so they donate money. Some do both. You can't be judging people based on how they help out. Charities would not work without cash. People who give cash had to work for that cash, so it is no different than the one who puts in just time. Cash donors finance those those who have time. Quit judging by one standard. It takes many parts to make a Body. If you have time, give it without gloating. If you have money do the same. If you have both, thank God that you are so blessed.

Some times Cecila, He puts it in our hearts to go and do. I find myself challenged in many directions to help others and these past few weeks I have only been able to do what I can financially to help others. I have for 15 years, volunteered freely with cancer patients and have spend numerous hours talking and doing for them. One of the greatest gifts we ever give is time, our love and energy to one who needs help handling the daily little things.....and no greater is ANY blessing I will ever receive from being there for the terminally ill and those we know leave this earth soon.

I just want to say, that I have the upmost respect for you and Pete. Be Blessed!

Yesterday is past and gone, but tomorrow is forever.

Sis, again I seem to be guilty of not clarifying what I mean. What I meant to say was don't JUST throw money at the problem but also give of yourself. There are many, many programs that need money to keep them going like Meals on Wheels, Meals for the Elderly, Soup Kitchens, Homeless Shelters, etc. but these same programs need people as well, volunteers to prepare those meals, deliver them, hand them out, clean up the dirty dishes, wash the linens every day for those folks who will need a bed to sleep in this night. And that is just for organized programs.

There are a lot of people out there whose needs are not being met even by these programs. Perhaps they are getting a meal delivered once a day, five days a week. But what about the other 2 meals a day and those for the week-end. And all the volunteer's who deliver these meals have time to do is, deliver the meal then leave. For some of these folks that is the only time they see another human face. And they are some of the lucky ones.

And this doesn't even take into account the single parent's out there, like Pete mentioned, who can't seem to get up on their feet. I know what that is like as well. It is really difficult, especially if they should have a child with severe medical problems, like I did, to keep a job and keep their heads above water. And again, I was one of the lucky ones whose ex-husband was in the military and couldn't be a dead-beat dad because my child support was taken out by the Air Force before he got any pay.

I know how busy our lives can get but I think that if we all evaluate the way we use our time we would all find an hour or more a week that we could dedicate to spending with someone who needs our help. Just cutting out a couple of television programs would give most at least that much. What it really all boils down to is a matter of priorities. And I think that is what Pete was getting at. Where are your priorities? Speaking to us all

I love you too, sis, you know that I do. You didn't offend me at all I was just trying to make the point of not just giving money.

As for the way that I feel, don't let it get you down. As you may know I've had a bad week, but God is in His heaven and all will be well. I'm beginning to think that I should stop posting until this all blows over because I seem to be injuring those I love so much by not being clear. And I wouldn't hurt any of you for the world.

hey, sista, i have so much respect for what Pete and you do. but i have to agree with Ken as well...there are two sides...down here there are several very wealthy men who give lots to further the needs here. the majority of my financial support comes from 3 of those men...and they want no acknowledgement for it. these men and others have given huge amounts so that these communities can build nursing homes, homes for the developmentally disabled, as well as a drug and alcohol rehab. currently, they are researching the best way to estabish a mental health center here. they also give to individuals who are dirt poor. these men are maligned by many unknowing folk here who are jealous of their wealth...they could stand up and say, "hey come one, i gave here and here and here..." but they don't. i feel humbled and honored that they support my work here financially never expecting anything in return.
i say all that just to say...there are two sides to every story...and there are good and bad among the rich and the poor.

Ken, I have foot in mouth disease right now, the human version of hoof in mouth. Nothing seems to be coming out right. Please see my response to Rhonda.

I'm sorry!
