What Are You Really Worth?

After reading some of Bruce's posts I thought about some of the wonderful things I have garnered from various books that I have read over the years. The following comes from the book "The Secret Of Loving" by Josh McDowell. It speaks to me a great deal because of some of the circumstances in my life. It is my hope that it will speak to some of you as well.

What Are You Really Worth?

Have you ever said, "I really don't count. I could disappear and no one would notice or care"? Most people think those thoughts at one time or another. Yet the Bible reveals that God looks at us quite differently. In the Bible, God tells you that He sees you as very special because God created you in His image.

Right at the start of the Old Testament, Genesis 1, we read that God said, "Let Us make man in Our image." So He did it. This accounts for our ability to love, to exercise our will, to choose and make moral decisions. Most of us have not really stopped to think about how special that is.

Suppose you went outside and stood next to a tree. You could say that in many ways you are equal in value to the tree, since both you and the tree were specially created by God. But there is one critical difference -- God created you in His image. God did not give HIs image to any other part of His creation.

You are special also because you are of great value and worth to God. In 1 Corinthians 6, Paul said that we have been purchased with a great price. The value or worth of an object is usually determined by the price one is willing to pay to purchase or redeem it. It couldn't be more true for you and me. When someone asks what I am worth, I can factually say that I am worth the price God paid for me, which was "Jesus."

Before I became a Christian, this realization really humbled me. If I had been the only person alive, Jesus Christ still would have died for me. He would have died for you if you had been the only one who needed it. A young lady in Dallas, Texas, said, "Josh, I believe that's true. But that means that I would have been the only one there to drive the spikes through His hands to crucify Him."

Without question you are special and of great value. In Matthew 6:26 Jesus emphasized this. His followers were having a problem. They were concerned with what they should wear, what they were going to eat and drink, and where they were going to sleep. And Jesus selected the birds to illustrate His point. He explained that birds don't reap; they don't gather into barns. He said, "Your heavenly Father feeds them." Have you ever seen a sparrow starve? Then Jesus drove the obvious point home; "Are you not worth much more than they?"

I am amazed at how many people seem to think they are not worth even the value of a sparrow. God has made you of great value. And the real basis for a healthy self-image is to understand and accept the value God has placed on you.

As you ponder this truth, be careful to recognize that it is not because of any merit on your part. Your value and worth is based not upon what you have done, but upon who Jesus is and what He has done for you. Christ's loving actions on your behalf have demonstrated and documented forever the great value you have to God.

What a wonderful post!! Several years ago God gave me a little gift that keeps on giving... I've oft been plagued by those doubts... days might go by and my phone doesn't ring... and you start to wonder, whenever I start to feel myself getting pulled in, I remember this little gift.. and it helps when I remember to share this gift with others... Sue, as I sit here, with tears streaming down my face, I am amazed at the love and grace of our Father. I just read your story, and the part about the day of my birth maybe not being as was described hits hard. If you have ever read my testamony, well, you know what I am talking about.

But God in His infinite wisdom and mercy has given me you, and Lonnie, Marilyn, Eli, Rebecca, Kristina, Sherri, Pete, Bruce, Duncan, Rod, Rhonda, my, it would take a week just to name you all. For there have been ones like you throughout my life, and I praise Him for each and every one of you. For you are each very special gifts to me as well, and I love you all so very much. Thank you for sharing this with us all here. And thank you most of all for being who you are in our Lord.

Love ya,
Cecilia

Bruce, I guess tonight is destined to be an evening of tears, but do not have a care, dear brother, they are tears of joy, tears of rejoicing, that God has made such abundant provision here for those who need to know what beautiful, wondrous creations of God they are. There are so many in the world, and many here, who need to be told those very things, that they are cherished by God and loved by we, their brothers and sisters in Christ. What fabulous Men and Women of God have gathered here in this place.

Most have come here to find love, and find it they will if they truly seek it, but it may not be the love that they thought they would find. Instead they will find one far greater, The Love Of God!!!! And He has done even more than placing our picture on His fridge or in His wallet. He has carved us into the palm of His hand.
Isaiah 49:16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

Thank you for hearing His voice and doing His will. Thank you for being my brother in Him and for sharing the wisdom that He has revealed to you. You are loved.

Just thinkin... Have you heard the song 'I Will Change Your Name' it's one of my faves

I will change your name
you shall no longer be called
wouunded, ouutcast, lonely or afraid

I will change you name
your new na-ame shall be
Confidence, Joyfulness, Overcoming One,
Faithfulness, Frie-end of God,
one who see-eks my face...

I SO see that in you Cecelia, God shines in you like a light sooooo bright! I just finished reading your testimony, and am simply overwhelmed, for lack of a better term. God surely carried you, through sooo many years of heartache. What a gift YOU are!!! I agree with Kristina, your book would be such an encouragement to soooo many in a dark place.

There's a rather fun song I wrote earlier this year, I thought of you when I read your ... oh, I think it was called 'Were You My Daddy' [post 11967] Enjoy!

Love & Hugs,
Sue

Hey, girl, good to see you. Yes, I probably was there in spirit, in a sense, since the same spirit that is within me was no doubt present with you guys down there. God just gave me the message supernaturally. So cool, huh, how the same message seems to be received by so many all over the world at the same time. Reckon God is trying to tell us all something!!!!!

What a beautiful message that song contains. And it goes right along with Bruce's name post as well.

Man, I am getting chill bumps from all the confirmation of things that I am receiving from the Lord lately. Seems like so many here are getting the same types of things concerning who we are in Him. The Holy Spirit moving so mightily, bringing all these good words, whether they be songs or quotes from books, to everyone's remembrance.

And yes, Sue, your song reminds me a lot of my poem. Cause I do believe that He was there and responsible for my not remembering everything. I feel in my heart that He took me away so that my mind would not be totally broken and that, though a broken vessel, I could still be repaired and made a vessel of honor for Him. Which reminds me of a song we used to sing in my old church.

A Vessel Of Honor

A vessel of honor for God,
A vessel of honor for God,
Sanctified holy - so I might be,
A vessel of honor for God

Purge me, cleanse me,
Wash me 'till holy,
Chastise my thoughts,
Till they're pure.
Make me devout in my worship of You;
And hallow my reverence of You.

Make me your vessel of honor - Oh God,
Your vessel of honor - Oh God.
Sanctified holy - so I might be,
Your vessel of honor my God.
