Disclaimer: I want first of all to let everyone know that what I am about to reveal is not because I am living in the past or because I am holding on to it. I am not still wearing my grave clothes, so to speak. A testamony is simply speaking the truth of what God has done in one's life, personal experience of His love, grace, power, glory. For a biblical example of a testamony please see Acts 26:1-23 When I was born in July of 1957 I had a congenital heart defect which wasn't discovered until I was several weeks old, after I had been taken home by my parents. My mother said that I couldn't hold down any food and cried all the time. She finally took me back in to the doctors who, upon discovering the defect, told my parents it would prevent me from ever leaving the hospital. My condition was so severe that they would not even venture to guess at a time period that my life would last. The way it has been explained to me is that my heart had failed to fully develop and it was as if I only had half of a heart. The doctors could not explain how I had survived as long as I had already. I was placed in the hospital and there I stayed for some weeks. My parents attended a church that believed in faith healing and the members of that church immediately begin praying for my healing. But my condition remained the same. Finally, my parents obtained permission from the doctor to have some of the congregation to come in and lay hands on me. This group included the pastor, his wife, the co-pastor and his wife, my parents best friends (a couple from the church) and my parents. During the laying on of hands many of the people participating anoint their hands with olive oil, which during the laying on of hands transfers to the person being prayed for. Most of the churchs that I have attended in my life that believe in faith healing keep olive oil on hand for this purpose. On one Wednesday evening after church services this group of people went to the hospital and gathered around the crib where I lay and prayed for my healing, laying hands on my little body as they prayed. When the doctor had left the hospital that evening my condition had not changed. But the next morning when he came in and checked me my heart was perfectly normal. I am here today, 49 years later, a living testamony of the power of prayer, of the validity of the laying on of hands and the miracle and gift of healing. I have seen the doctor's reports with my own eyes, I have spoken with those who were present at the time, the pastors, their wives, my parents and their friends, and know this story backwards and forwards. I know that it is real. My very life is a gift from God, twice over. And anyone who wishes to deny it is not denying me, they are denying Him, His power, His glory, His mercy, His love, His grace.
