The Author

I came to the Lord, all broken and torn
By the brambles that stood by the way
Of the wide road of this world so ragged and worn
For it's traveled by many each day.
With a heart oh so broken and a mind filled with fear
And so sure that death would be best.
He took me aside and dried all my tears.
He said, "Come, and I'll give you rest."

Chorus

"For I'm not the author of pain or strife
But the author of peace, love and power.
Just turn unto me, in my hands put your life
And I'll be with you through each trying hour."

Yes, this life is filled with sorrow and pain
But God know our needs e'er we ask.
For He sent His son, on the cross to be slain
Knowing we were not up to the task,
Of bearing our burdens of sin and of shame.
Yes, he knew we could not pass the test.
So He sent our Sweet Jesus, just call on His name.
For He said, "Come, and I'll give you rest."
