Background 4 RailBaron2

On the 15th of this month I will have been a Caretaker here for 69 months.A Brief history of this place.
the Carson & Colorado Railroad was incorperated on May 10 1880 The 3' narrow gauge started at Mound House, Nevada- 10 miles east of Carson City
it took until March 1883 to reach what was first known as Bishop Creek 224 miles from Mound House.
The railroad continued for another 70.4 miles to Hawley. with all the sidings there were a total of 300 miles of track.
In 1900 the Southern Pacific bought the line & changed the name from Bishop Creek to Laws in Honor of C&c assistant & construction Superintendant R.J. Laws. by 1943 all that was left was 70.4 miles of narrow gauge railroad running from Laws to Keeler & astandard Gauge conection to Owenyo. In Oct.1954 the southern Pacific bought its only new piece of equipment a General electric diesel locomotive wieghing 51 tons & the 3 serviving steam locomotives were retired- # 8 is today on display in Sparks, Nevada
# 18 is on Display at Dehy park in Independence, California & # 9 was kept on as emergency & standby locomotive.
On April 25th 1960 Diesel #1 towed # 9 & caboose # 401 to Laws from Owenyo & On April 30th, 1960
Southern Pacific Donated the south 1/2 of the Laws railroad yard along with all buildings & structures still standing ,Track & a 5 car display train to the County of Inyo for Safekeeping on behalf of Generations to come.
In 1964 the Bishop Museum & Historical Society was organized & on April 1 1966 started operating at the railroad yard. A little over 10 years later in July 1976 I became a Life Member of the Society & at age 13 was thier youngest volenteer.
I spent the next 4 years out here on weekends & every day I could durring summer vacation.
I grew up with the Brochures that read " RESTORATION,PRESERVATION- the Keys to our Heratige" Why preserve this place & its History?
Why have I spent 30 of my 43 year doing research on this place? Why have I donated my time & volenteered here for a total of 13-1/2 years?
Why have I been a Caretaker here for the last 69 months? Why have I given close to a years wages in donations of drawings, photographs, documents & artifacts? Why have I been blessed with a personal collection of some 1800 photographs of this railroad when it was in opperation- 700 of these are of these yards alone? or over 100 original documents ? Why is it in my heart to see these yards Restored & Rebuilt? Why am I offended & Angry & my Fangs & Claws come out when something that was once here from 1883 until 1960
is Removed for " Liability" reasons, or Sold because "We don't have the money" Or mickey moused together because " Who is going to know or care except the ( Explitives deleted) Railroad enthusiasts.? These are questions I am asking myself & God right now. You now know a little about me,where I have been, where I am at today.
God is the only one who knows where I'm going as He sees the end from the beginning.Maybe I care because it is a reminder of a time when God was not only a part of this Nation but was Welcomed & His Guiding Hand acknowlaged, A time when a mans word was His Bond, A time when the Bible & prayer were taught in school,a time where marrage was between 1 man & 1 woman & divorce was rare.
If a young man got a woman pregnant- They got married & they had the , if they couldn't take care of the they gave it up for adoption.abortion was rare & illegal as was homosexuality. How far have we strayed from God
as a nation? as individuals? "As in the days of Noah, so shall the comming of the of Man be"
How bad was it in Noah's day? If God destroyed the world for its wickedness back then-How much longer will a Rightous & Holy God withold His judgement from the world we live in today?

yep we certainly are living in the last days of God's history pages and the ones like you sounding out the warning are like the prophets of the old testament and if only one person with a lost soul heeds what you say and turns to the Lord then it will have been worth it
