A Personal-Public Blog (but not Public Domain ). RATINGS GUIDE for MOVIES SEEN by me Who wants to see some shows? LOL. (If maybe so, read more.) VERSION: 8/18/2008 (changed font sizes ), 6/26/2008 (handle name updated ), 4/16/2008, 10/15/2007. (Detailed edit notes are at the end.) INTRO: These ratings and notes are related to my MOVIES lists found at the link below. They are NOT for my TV or SHOWS lists. An Overview, and long-winded notes about my movie-watching, are also below. LOL. RATINGS GUIDE: BY REQUEST! VERSION: 10/15/2007. NOTE: Ratings on my movies lists are by me. They go from # to ##### (5). They are mostly self-explanatory. They do NOT imply appropriateness or lack of it for Christians, children, or anyone else. They are intended mostly for a General audience, Christian and non-. Each movie's rating (elsewhere ), and even how I go about rating, are both subject to change without notice. ##### -- I'd really, really want to see it again. And/Or Supremely made. ####.5 - I'd really want to see it again. And/Or Very, very well made. #### --- I would probably want to see it again. And/Or Very well made. ###.5 -- I would likely want to see it again. And/Or Well made. ### ---- I would likely want to see it again, someday. And/Or Pretty well made. ##.5 --- I might or might not want to see it again. Maybe SO. And/Or Not bad. ## ----- I might or might not want to see it again. Maybe NOT. And/Or So-so. #.5 ---- I would probably not want to see it again without good cause. And/Or Not so badly made that it should never be seen by SOMEone. # ------ If I saw it again, it would probably be to see if it was really as bad as I thought. LOL. And/Or "Bad". .5 ----- See one # rating. Will I rate something this low ever?? Lol. 0 ------ See .5 rating. - ------ Negative ratings??? Like bad news?? lol. Sometimes I want to, but typically restrain myself. LOL. Anyway, if you want to read more about what I like and don't like in general, I go into it more below. Otherwise-- MY MAIN MOVIES AND SHOWS BLOG: Who wants to DO something, like see SHOWS or MOVIES, or catch the SIGHTS?. As you may see, my ratings typically indicate how much I might want to see it again, and/or they may somewhat-reflect my opinion of the quality of film production, especially on earlier lists. (Sorry if this seems confusing or inconsistent.) There is usually a close connection between the two because I don't usually like badly-done movies. LOL. But there may be exceptions. The films on my lists are therefore somewhat subjectively rated. OVERVIEW: VERSION: 10/15/2007. I enjoy most movie genres, even some of the better romantic comedies! LOL. Really. I AVOID, AVOID, AVOID porn and MOST Horror--especially slasher films--on principle. (Not to mention, Yuck! LOL.) Many movies listed, I saw in movie theaters, some at IMAX, and some on on DVD. MY COMMENTS about each movie are NOT usually intended to be complete. I may or may not add more later. And they are NOT really "reviews", per se, just comments. And they often do not have a Synopsis. (Someone asked me to write reviews; maybe when I get PAID to! LOL. But for now, just comments, as I feel inclined.) If you want to know whether a Christian "should" watch a particular movie or not, let me know how close you are to Puritan and how close to worldly! lol. (Not funny.) I felt almost obligated to comment on each film, though in some cases I didn't have much to say. (Many times I just don't remember much about it. With the little sleep I get at times, it's amazing I remember anything at times! lol.) My comments are basically just what came to mind at some point, if anything, in some cases months after seeing a film. Spoilers? Well, how much of a movie can you describe without spoiling the plot or some anticipation for the film? I try to avoid it when I can. If you feel I "spoiled" something, email me, and YHWH-permitting, I may consider removing or changing it. Thank you! The Internet Movie Database (IMDB ) Web site has lots of details about most films, as do some of the video rental Web sites. For reviews, there are tons of customer reviews on these sites, on Amazon, and other places where videos are sold. Also, there are critics' reviews all over the Internet. There are even some Christian-review places. So, with so much information already out there, WHY am I doing this? I don't know. The lists don't seem to get many views. But, if someone really wanted to know about ME, and what kinds of films I watch; well, there they are! Lol. ANYWAY, if you're in town, and you want to watch a film--maybe even one I've already seen--consider emailing me here, or maybe commenting on one of my latest MOVIES lists (though it might be a while before I see that ). I can't guarantee we'll have a "movie date", but if YHWH wills and we live, I may consider it. NOTES about MOVIES SEEN lists: VERSION: 10/15/2007. MORE ABOUT ME AND MY MOVIE WATCHING-- I already stated up front that I like most genres--except porn and most actual horror, on principle--but this is a bit more about what I do and don't like to watch. I typically like to watch something with a purpose, a meaning. Meaningless drivel isn't really appealing, well, sometimes! LOL. I can often like well-made movies, and the classics, if there isn't too much in them that is offensive to me. I usually find gratuitous violence or sex or cussing OFFENSIVE. Some violence doesn't necessarily bother me in a show, when necessary, but the concept of showing it for people to really get into it is gross. I don't like blood and gore. Blood in a medical show, or when necessary, I don't mind too much. But gore?? Well, SOME of it is okay, again, when it really fits. I don't need to see someone get his throat slashed though. Or almost any other body part. In my whole life I've only thought "fitting" one cuss word in one movie, and in one song. Many sex scenes are uncomfortable to see. I can even find certain types of kissing on screen to be uncomfortable to watch. (I mean, Why do we have to see that?? We don't.) On occasion, though, the romantic peck is nice to see. I don't like dumb. Well, some dumb is okay. Yet if it's trying to be funny, but it's only painful, then I don't like it. LOL. I don't like most slapstick. I wasn't big into Laurel and Hardy, or The Three Stooges. (Too disrespectful, and too dumb for me.) I did mostly like the TV show The Addams Family, but not the Munsters (especially Herman Munster ), if that tells you anything. LOL. I mostly liked I Dream of Jeannie, but not the main male actor (all the "magic" aside ). As a boy, I watched TV for hours and hours a DAY. Now, maybe four hours a WEEK! LOL. (Unless there's a movie or special.) I don't watch most of the News, as it's really the same-old, and mostly BAD news that I don't think I really need to know about personally. If news were USEFUL, I might want to watch that! I do NOT typically watch Sports, unless it's something big, or something I used to play competitively. If someone else wants to watch, well then maybe on occasion I could. I like some of the better romantic comedies! LOL. Really. Speaking of comedies, if they're dumb, really dumb, then forget it! (Dumb and Dumber, lol, etc., maybe being an exception, I dunno ). When I think of one of the worst bigger-production movies I've seen, Ishtar usually comes to mind. The TV show M.A.S.H. can be humorous. As can Seinfeld, Friends, Ugly Betty, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and lots of others! Lol. Regarding British productions, I liked the TV show The Avengers, with character Emma Peel, but would have to go back and see Monty Python again to see whether I liked it. (I was too young then.) I started liking reading as a boy (again ), and literature, in large part because of the Fantasy genre. So, I do tend to like some of those (like the more-recent Lord of the Rings movies and books ). Many Fantasy films, though, are too dumb for me to like much. And some are just disappointing (like The Phantom Tollbooth, one of my favorite books, but far less favorite films ). There were earlier Lord of the Rings movies that were animated, and also The Hobbit, but I didn't like their animated version either, though I enjoyed the books, and liked the later LOTR films. (Where was the poetry though!? ) What else can I say? LOL. From Summer 2006 to Fall 2007, on average I might have seen in THEATERS one movie maybe every 1-3 weeks or so. But as I have begun a special video rental program, I may watch less in theaters--depending one what is playing--and maybe more at "home". My ratings cover both in-theater and in-home watching, and should give some idea of what I might like to see again sometime. So then, Who wants to see a movie? lol.
